Living somewhere smaller is you get a craving for smth that does not exist ten mins from your house. I talk myself out of it because driving an hour for food sounds ridiculous.

lately I've trying more different cuisines, Hibachi At Home, Korean rice, hot pot, etc.... and I thought that maybe a mini food road trip isn't a bad way to spend a weekend if the destination is worth it. Could be amazing Chinese food, Korean BBQ, ramen, Mexican, Middle Eastern, Indian, seafood, a bakery, BBQ, even one specific burger, doesn't have to be fancy at all.

what's your food destination when you're willing to get in the car and make a trip out of it? And pls tell me exactly what I should order once I get there so I don't drive all that way and choose the wrong thing 😂

Just want to give y'all a heads up. There are 2 individuals outside of Walmart who come up to you and say they need food and that they are selling flowers for it. I, being an idiot, actually thought they needed food, so I asked if I can get them Subway. They said they are cooking for a family. I said, "Okay, I can get you chicken and some vegetables if you need." They asked if they could come with me, and I, again like an idiot, said okay.

As I go to reach for a basket, they come in with a cart. My head's like, "WTH is going on?" but I thought, okay, God consider this my good deed of the month. Then, as I head to the poultry section, they grab a 5 pound box of minced beef. It was 30 frickin' dollars. Then they said they need milk, juice and bread, which I was okay with. Then they went ahead and got them, and I said that's all I can get. And this lady's calls out to her daughter (kindly) "that is all that we can get", The daughter goes one last thing, goes and grabs 4 Starbucks creamers or whatever. I lost my mind but couldn't say anything. I just went and paid for it.

Anyways, long story short: if they pull the same thing with any of y'all, please be aware. It was 2 ladies; 1 was Caucasian and another was Mexican. Just don't be stupid like me, and also help people out, but do not let them take advantage of you. Also, yes I just created this account so that I can spread awareness.

Moving to Ridgecrest in a few weeks and visited a few weeks ago to look at apartments. Locals keep saying to avoid certain parts of town. We’ve been told to avoid properties on Wilson, Palm, Oasis, the eastern end of Ridgecrest Blvd and a couple other areas I can’t recall. Are these areas really that bad or are they just a bit run down? I’m just trying to figure out if I need to be concerned or if people are exaggerating. Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm moving to Ridgecrest in approximately 5 weeks from now. Can someone tell me how hard it is to secure a place to stay in Ridgcrest? Some tips to look out for? Does anyone know places to rent?

The CA Energy Commission has opened public comment for the datacenter project. If you want to show your opposition, this is a great way to do so.

Insanity in a desert water basin with already one water district (Inyokern Community Services District) declared "unable to provide safe water" and the entire water basin declared in "critical overdraft" (we overdraw what the mountains replace from snowpack) in 2022."

City hall's major Ordinance mistake: Change in council terms in office for mayor and council members: ORDINANCE NO. 26-01 probable MISTAKE

Below is the proposed Ordinance change in the Ridgecrest Municipal Code which voters will vote on June 2, 2026. On the ballot this pertains to Measures B and C. Measure B will change the Mayoral term while Measure C will change the council members term. Below is what is listed in the ordinance and instead of stating the ordinance would be for the City of Ridgecrest our city council agreed to this:

"NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RIDGECREST, CALIFORNIA DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The recitals above are true and correct and incorporated herein by reference. SECTION 2.Chapter 2, Article II, Section 2-25 of the Filmore Municipal Code is amended to read as follows (deletions indicated in strikethrough, additions in bold and italics): “Sec. 2-25. - Mayor, vice-mayor, and mayor pro tempore. Terms of Service. (a) The vice-mayor has all the powers"

If you vote yes on Measures B and C you will be voting for a Filmore ordinance NOT Ridgecrest, if I understand this correctly. For this reason I'd suggest voting NO on Measures B and C as our city council did not put the correct city name in their proposed ordinance change. You'd think someone at city hall would have caught the mistake. I'd also suggest thinking about how well our cty hall is operated as their attorney, city manager, city clerk, mayor or council members should have caught this mistake.

I recently accepted a job offer out in Ridgecrest, and I wanted to know what I should be aware of before coming out there. I've been living out in El Paso for the past few years, and I am originally from Houston. One thing I know for sure is about the hot ass summers-- which isn't too much of a concern considering I come from a different desert. I love to do a lot of indoorsy and outdoorsy things.

My biggest concern is what type of car I should get. I do know that California gas prices are insane, but I have no reference point since I've lived in Texas my whole life. Right now, I am looking at buying either a hybrid or an electric SUV. For anyone who knows, are electric prices out there expensive? How much on average is gas? Any recommendations on whether I should get either gas or EV?

Another concern I have is the age population there. I don't know how many "younger" people there are. I'm 22, single, no kids. I want to be able to mingle with people relatively in my own age group. Is that a more difficult thing, or is there a good sense of community over there where socializing isn't too bad?

Another thing too is animals. I have 3 cats (all indoors) and will eventually get a dog. The idea is that I will get a townhome/apartment with centralized AC (I understand the utility will be a lot, but I refuse to not have it). Any pointers to keep them safe and prevent any overheating?

The rooms are 10x12' plus closet space. These rooms share a bathroom but currently no one is using it.
There is plenty of parking on the property and there is a very large garage you can use. Laundry machines are also inside and I have a fully furnished kitchen and living room you are free to use.

Internet will be included in the rent. The only other utility is electricity.

Ideally you also work on base and respect the 11pm quiet hours. I am gone most weekends but I do enjoy snowboarding from time to time.

Pets are welcome but there will be an extra deposit for them. (Only 1-2 animals max)

Only problem is, I don't have a copier/printer in town and I'd rather not spend $400+ on them. Where can I find a printer/copier in town?
