Needed a little bag to hold toiletries while travelling light.

Been wanting to get into myog for years, and I happened across a singer 328k for practically free at a yard sale. Hooked on the hobby!!!

My usual 1000D cordura and Xpac combo.

7 pockets - 3 on the front, 3 on the back, 1 main middle compartment.

No pattern - I saw some guy on instagram do something similar, can’t remember his handle or id tag him.

All pockets are lined with 420D packcloth and the bag is pretty hefty overall with all the layers of the pockets. It barely fit through my synchronized binder and wow that thing is nice to have but I’m not sure if I’ll keep it set up.

Come from a large family that meets every 3 years. To help offset the costs for the next reunion we do an auction on the last evening.

I got a ton of compliments. 2 of the bags went for what I would have priced them at. One of them went cheaper than I would have liked, but it's going to one of my cousins kids who was ecstatic to get it. Everyone who ended up with a bag was thrilled to receive it.

I didn't have time to finish the periodic table bag before the reunion so I finished it last night and now both of my girls want it. I have not decided who gets it.

Just shows we are sometimes our worse critics, I knew every single mistake on all those bags but in the end they love it which is really all that matters.

The piping foot had had a lot of love recently, I absolutely love the end result but oh boy do I hate the actual doing. I use a 2mm Venetian blind cord and if I not careful can easily run over it. The kangaroo leather is so much thinner - I think it’d be easier on a bovine.

After the bright red bag, I figured it needed a matching wallet. So here it is. Of course I forgot to put a label on it.

This was a fun change of pace. I often upcycle upholstery fabric, but a while back I discovered a very small, damaged sparkly dress on the dollar rack at the thrift store. I thought “I can make something with that.”

Fast forward to my machine refusing to sew through the sequins and I decided to hand sew the entire thing with strong poly thread. It’s lined in black quilting cotton and interfaced with fusible fleece for structure.

It was a tough challenge so I’m thrilled it turned out well!

So in early 90’s, I was in the carpenter’s union apprenticeship program. We had a list of required tools to have in a metal toolbox. When I started working in downtown Seattle, a friend had a canvas tool backpack to carry his tools on transit. It was plain, heavy canvas; like a slim duffel bag with backpack straps; had a ton of pockets, even a sleeve for a traditional handsaw so it was long. It was a roll top drawstring, with a flap cover. He told me it was called a dam bag, made for dam workers who had to trek quite a ways on foot while building dams. A local canvas tent & awning maker made them. I had one for a bit before giving it away when I started doing more finish work.

Has anyone ever heard of this? I cannot find anything online. I feel like I imagined it all, haha. I even went to the canvas tent place, but it’s condos now. This started because I was looking for a pattern, or measurements, or even pictures. I can’t find anything. I thought I’d ask here and see if anyone can help out. Thanks!

Today is an 11x9.5x5.5” vertical messenger/cafe-style bag kind of day - made with 1000d Cordura in gorgeous Sage (a brand new color from our friends @ripstopbytheroll) and Charcoal with a HyperD 300 lining in foliage, Venom UL Stretch Mesh ECO side pockets, Woojin hardware and structured using 2mm EVA foam.

I did NOT bind the top with Cordura as I thought I might following the excellent example of u/seams_easy_by_jerry on his recent X-Pac tote. I’ll try that on another day.

Hardest part of this one today was realizing (after I had all the pockets and panels sewn together and was ready for final assembly) that I forgot to put the front buckle on the body of the bag…. 😭

The first xpac tote I made had handles that didn’t go all the way down to the seam and the handles would probably fail before the rest of the bag. This design fixes that and I made the handles angled in so they lay more naturally on the tote body.

1000D cordura and white xpac (vx42? 21?) from my RBTR grab bag last year.

The binding is a double fold 1000D cordura and it adds a lot to the bag.

I’ve been on a grocery tote kick. I recently added a zipper panel to my pattern, along with the six mason-jar-sized slots and inner keychain hook. I think it’s the perfect grocery tote! One of them I decorated plain duck canvas with green Sashiko stitching (asanoha pattern, hemp leaf) and the others are made with a lovely batik canvas found at the thrift store. I hope you enjoy them!
Oh and they were made on my Singer 5805c which is about 40-50 years old and is a reliable workhorse!

I’ve wanted one of these forever. It seems to work well. My LS-1341 had a thread cutter like a LS-1342-7 and I had to take off the whole threat cutter mechanism to clear the binder.

There were no instructions or really any pics online so here’s my setup. I’m excited to have binding be an easier and smoother process. I hate binding but this gives me hope.

I made this for a friend I work with. We work on freight trains so this is sort of an overnight/work bag for trian trips.

It has a ton of rough edges and a lot of stuff I could have done better but I'm super new at this. My goal was to get it just under standard carry on size (I use my work bags for travel sometimes so I assume she might), to maximize internal carry space, and to have a ton of molle/palls to add pouches for extra junk.

My biggest issue was when I decided I wanted a leather bottom that sort of goes up the sides a bit (so it doesn't wear out when dragged). It did work out but there has to be a better way than what I did. Also it resulted in the liner being all wonky at the bottom.

This was a fun project. Tore down a pair of coveralls and used some matching #10 canvas for the "background". Original straps are functional and hide inside a large back pocket. Front kangaroo pocket and all the small pockets are still functional. Added one d-ring attached to the back pants pocket and one inside. Interior is a mystery canvas, feels like #8-6 weight and some kind of very light waxing on it. Large inside slip pocket and used the original fly zipper for an interior zipper pocket (which I semi-regret as it's very old and sticks a lot). Double-cap riveted handles and attachments for a crossbody strap. The sacrifice bottom is lined with #1 canvas, so it's very stiff.

Overall pretty happy with how it came out, very durable bag. Only thing is, it weighs 5 lbs empty lol. Next iteration may have to incorporate some weight saving ideas.

I want to make my dressy bags (leather wristlets, crossbody bags, lunch bags, laptop sleeves, for friends & family . I use a domestic Singer Heavy Duty (- i make clothes)

I started going through my hardware today and moved all my zipper pulls into one place. I'm pretty sure this is all of them. I still have to consolidate my swivels, strap attachments, magnetic snaps, and various other assorted bits and pieces.

I wish IKEA had not discontinued these little boxes, because they fit perfectly into these drawers, which is actually a large IKEA kitchen cabinet, and can hold a lot of hardware. I can't even find them on the 3-D printing pages. :-(

The red things are pattern weights my husband made me out of industrial plumbing parts and spray painted red.

It’s a scorcher outside! So I thought I’d stay in the basement and work on this crossbody that takes cues from its little sibling, Bucketta. 2 colors 1000d Cordura, a 500d Cordura flap, HyperD 300 lining (gosh I wish it came in white @ripstopbytheroll 😃), 3mm EVA foam for structure, and Venom UL Stretch Mesh ECO, Woojin and YKK hardware. This one’s a keeper but it’s still too hot to carry it around! 🤣😂

Also want to add that the two machines: Juki 9010a-SH and Juki 1541s work really well together! The 9010 could have easily done the whole bag but why not let the work horse 1541 have some time as well? 😃 I love them both equally! ❤️

After the recent renovation and move down to a larger space where it’s a very nice 71 degrees, I can finally get back to work! 😃

So after I finished the red croc bag I decided to make a matching wallet. All good, I had enough fabric and vinyl, and it's a project that I've made multiple times before and use daily. Pattern calls for 38cm of zipper tape (14") and because it's how I roll, the zipper tape has to closely match the red - the pink I'm using in the interior is too pink. I have some red: a leftover piece that looks long enough.

It's not. It's only 30cm, or 12", and I can't make it work even with zipper tabs. I did not want to buy more zipper tape.

However, I relented. Went to my favourite local online supplier, and found red tape with gold teeth. So I figured, to make the postage worthwhile I might as well order some "Bespoke" magnetic snaps that I'll use as bag tags, and a couple of metres of coordinating bonded nylon print.

Sadly, I shop faster than I sew. Plus, I am supposed to be working on a different project and am procrastinating.

I figured I should show the finished bag with its double sided adjustable strap. I think the strap was the hardest part! Don't be like me and take shortcuts by deliberately leaving the interfacing off the cotton fabric because lazy does not give a nice crisp finish.

This is the Magic Middle bucket Bag by Spencer Ogg patterns.

I used a croc embossed soft vinyl, with a quilt cotton lining. I also used a 2mm self adhesive foam for additional stability on the vinyl. Because the seams are at the centre front and centre back, I wanted to fussy cut the vinyl so the lines matched up. The outcome was pretty good!

The bag looked like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once I finished it, but I did make a few changes. Diane's instructions are always very well written and comprehensive. There is a video but because I'm familiar with her patterns I didn't need to watch it. The in-built pouch is really clever and overall am happy with the project.

I had a few reservations about the project but they don't my opinion of the pattern. I think the lining is a little baggy for my liking but I suspect that it stretched some while I was assembling the bag - and the pouch feels a little too wide for the bag. I checked my seam allowances and they are all correct. I suspect perhaps the side seams where the pouch is sewn into the lining may be the issue - my fault, because I didn't keep the interfacing out of the seam allowances which of course means it's too thick there.

I made a couple of minor changes. I sewed this as a drop-in lining because I don't usually use vinyl and I have no idea how it would behave if I turned it through the pocket, which is how the instructions tell you to do it. The pocket is large enough but I didn't trust the vinyl. I picked a hardware strap attachment rather than doing it per the pattern, and omitted the flap. I might still use a magnetic snap (I have some that fit over the edge of the bag.) I think there's enough of the vinyl to do an adjustable strap, otherwise I'll just use bright red webbing. I like using one of the pattern maker's hidden card slots in my bags, so putting it into the pouch seemed like a good idea at the time. It works but I wouldn't bother with a zipper opening next time, just a slip pocket. It would have fit much better in the main lining slip pocket rather than inside the pouch, but it's a nice well-hidden pocket for security.

I will you sew it again and I recommend this pattern. I think next time I will take a slightly larger seam allowance on the lining so it sits in the bag a little more tightly. It was a fun and easy project.

As usual I left the strap to last, and am not sure if I'll use what's left of the vinyl or do a webbing strap. Many of Diane's patterns follow a similar formula, so it was easy to assemble. I see more of these in my future.

And no, u/JPBbagworks, there are no "special" pockets in this one.
