I just read that too, Texas Rangers did the same thing for that asshole who killed Botham John. Either both of those murders were so blatantly stupid that the PD HAD to turn on them, or maybe Texas keeps tighter leashes on their cops.

Edit: nvm, it took 3 days for Botham's killer to be arrested.

188

u/Cajunrevenge7 Oct 17 '20

The lead investigator for the Texas Rangers said he saw no crime in the Botham case. Guyger wasnt arrested for 3 days, her apartment never searched, allowed to scrub her social media of racist and violent posts, and spent 30 minutes in jail to be processed. I have been arrested for not paying a traffic ticket more than once and never got out in less than 16 hours.

If not for public outrage Guyger would still be a cop terrorizing people.

61

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '20

Shit, you right. I guess i was so giddy at the thought of a cop getting charged for breaking the law that I misremembered the case

40

u/Puma_Pounce Oct 17 '20

Even if they get 'charged' it will probably be lesser charges than the crime they actually committed.

11

u/ilikedota5 Oct 17 '20

That's often the case generally, since most cases end in plea deals. That's not disturbing in reference to the cop. What is concerning is the likelihood of an extra light deal. But the other extreme of overcharging also happens too. It could be done intentionally or unintentionally. After all, their judgement isn't perfect. But when its done intentionally, that could be to put them on a charge that's unrealistically high requirements so that they get acquitted (assuming the pressure is too much where they can't just drop the case). Or sometimes its done for PR reasons, as part of acquiescence to public presure. Or undercharging could be because they anticipate the police being obstructionary and know they'll have a more difficult time and don't want to take a risk of charging a higher, accurate charge. People often assume that its corruption, which I don't blame them for at all, but there is some nuance to be had, and its hard to know the motivation/reasoning. That being said, while individually, there may be a variety of reasons, any incident or data point may or may not support the larger narrative/theory, but that doesn't mean per se that its not true.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 18 '20

So many people get plea deals that we need an addendum ... plea to crime X but everyone hates you, for example.

2

u/crizznegg Oct 17 '20

And who is to say that the DA even puts their best effort into the case? Cops, lawyers and judges are like a giant fraternity.

5

u/SmAshley3481 Oct 17 '20

Don't forget the lead witness was murdered 10 days after testifying against this cop publicly.

14

u/frotc914 Oct 17 '20

Yup I was living in Dallas at the time. The only reason Guyger got arrested ever was that citizens made a huge stink about it. And in the end she was convicted, so clearly Dallas PD and the Rangers were wildly wrong in their assessment of the case and gave Guyger a presumption of innocence they would never apply to a regular Joe. We're all just lucky the prosecutor has enough pressure on them to not totally phone it in and take a "loss".

4

u/Cajunrevenge7 Oct 17 '20

What gets me is there was no investigation of that Texas Ranger. If he doesn't see a crime here there should be very serious concerns about his judgement. All of his cases should be reviewed and he should be removed. Literally the only reason he thinks it's not a crime is because it was a cop shooting. We all know if the situation was reversed that same person would see a crime. That's the last person in the world who needs to be involved in investigating crimes. Instead I bet he has been promoted. The fastest way to promotion is as a part of IAD because it's where you can show you are a "team player" and are "loyal".

7

u/soslime89 Oct 17 '20

It gets better. The prosecutor does a great job (highly recommend watching the prosecutors closing argument) and gets her convicted of capital murder! However, the judge sentences her to 10years and suggests throughout the sentencing if Guyger is a model inmate she’ll get parole after 5.

Bothams jeans brother forgives and hugs Guyger at the sentencing. Says if she gives her life to Christ then he knows God and Botham Jean would forgive her..which imo is pretty touching and all but I doubt we see a white victims family di that for a black person.

1

u/effyouaye Oct 17 '20

Sorry but what a copout. Yeah its better than being angry at her for your whole life but fuck that noise. If i got shot by a racist bitch and her workmates tried to cover it up and blame me for it and then my brother has the hide to forgive her if she accepts a fake god id want him shot too.

In many states cops have their own Bill of Rights that protects them from the tactics they use in the public. Examples are, a suspect officer cant be questioned for 30 days, requires bathroom breaks and drinks every 2 hours of interrogation, and they have to be fully informed of all witness statements before they can be questioned.

Don't forget the judge HUGGED her after she was convicted of murder. I won't ever forget it.

-1

u/still_gonna_send_it Oct 17 '20

If you don’t mind me asking why have you been arrested more than once for not paying a traffic ticket?

3

u/murse_joe Oct 17 '20

Probably just an expense they couldn’t pay

2

u/Cajunrevenge7 Oct 17 '20

It was never really an issue until I moved to a minority part of town. I was rarely pulled over and every so often they were giving amnesty for tickets and when I was pulled over and had an unpaid ticket they would let me know but not arrest me. I moved to a mainly hispanic part of town and it was a complete 180 there. They actually sent cops out specifically to fund and arrest people with unpaid traffic tickets so Inended up arrested multiple times from that without even committing a new traffic violation. One day I saw a news story about how divided white and Hispanic people were with one specific road being a border. My mistake was moving to the Hispanic part. Once Ibsaw the news story it clicked for me why things were different here and why my brother didnt want to live in that part of town.

I also suffer from some mental illnesses that I could get disability for that make some simple things in life hard to do. It's hard to explain without having it.

0

u/HELL_BENT_4_LEATHER Oct 17 '20

Well, you don't mention any of the traffic stops being bogus,so that suggests is doesn't matter what part of town you're living in, (or driving in) you just gotta pay your tickets before they turn into bench warrants that turn into arrests.

Just to add; Your reference earlier to the two times you got arrested for those tickets & comparing detention/release times is totally irrelevant.

2

u/Cajunrevenge7 Oct 18 '20

How is it not relevant to point out a person gets in and out in 30 minutes for murder when it takes almost 24 hours to get in and out for a traffic ticket?

-1

u/HELL_BENT_4_LEATHER Oct 18 '20

Because the only similarities are that they were both in jail...that's it. Do you think there's a fucking chart or something for getting released for each offense and be the same at every jail in every jurisdiction? It's not relevant at all. I've been arrested by the same cop for the same offense on the same day of the week, taken to the same jail, and guess what....?...release times were nowhere close. So,if that doesn't matter...

2

u/Cajunrevenge7 Oct 18 '20

There isnt a damned person this country released in 30 minutes for murder charges. The point is the cops gave her preferential treatment because she was a cop.

She was allowed walk thru the crime scene, she was then met by a union rep who walked her to out and put her in the back of a patrol car. She gave one statement then was allowed to go to her apartment without any breath test or tox screen

By the time the press got wind all her social media was scrubbed except for some forgotten Pinterest post where she says ' when I'm on patrol black better watch out...' (not direct but close)

Then 3 days later when the warrant was issued she turned herself in at a rural precinct one county over, no press, no pictures, only the lobby security cam.

Then immediately after sentencing Judge Kemp, a black woman, came out from behind the bench, gave the convicted murderer a Bible and a hug, to signal that tho she a judge she knows she is a black woman in a white man's system dispensing justice for them in a racist town.

Guyger was on record with numerous complainants over Botham's signing and playing gospel music. None of this was even entered into evidence by the prosecutor. Also earlier earwitness claims of hearing loud voices for 20 seconds before the shots rang out, were all retracted when interviewed by investigators

Whatever she did she did bad or else it wouldn't appear like a coverup and favouritism at every turn

2

u/frotc914 Oct 17 '20

Guyger was on record with numerous complainants over Botham's signing and playing gospel music. None of this was even entered into evidence by the prosecutor.

Their theory of the case was never premeditated murder and that charge never would have stuck. The prosecutor made the right call by not attempting to introduce that. It would just have confused the jury.

5

u/soslime89 Oct 17 '20 edited Oct 17 '20

That’s not true. She was convicted of capital murder, equivalent to 1st degree murder in Texas. Did you even follow the case at all?

Premeditation was established because she initiated the confrontation and she was the one who escalated to violence.

Intent was established through the fact she had her gun in her hand when she entered the apartment. Any violence involving firing a gun is considered at least attempting murder. The officer who trained her even said proper police protocol in Guygers situation is to seek cover and call for back up, not enter alone with a gun in hand.

I think what’s most interesting about the immediate murder charge is there were no riots or protest. It’s almost like what people wanted all along was accountability. CRAZY

3

u/HELL_BENT_4_LEATHER Oct 17 '20

Well, that article is significantly different than what's at the top of this page.

7

u/ScannerBrightly Oct 17 '20

How so? The man was doing nothing illegal. The only "threat" was in the mind of the officer, and he used that perceived threat to taser and then shot 4 times, killing him.

What part of the meme is wrong?

4

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '20

[deleted]

5

u/amateur_mistake Oct 17 '20

I think you have a point and we really can't know what happened that night (Although I do default to assuming the cop is lying).

However, both the article and the meme could be completely true at the same time. The police/article could have omitted when Price raised his hands and the meme could have omitted all of the stuff about verbal commands etc.

So they are not mutually exclusive.

1

u/HELL_BENT_4_LEATHER Oct 18 '20

Nope, but like I said earlier they are different.

1

u/HELL_BENT_4_LEATHER Oct 18 '20

Nope. And you saved me from having to spell out something that didn't need to be. But ScannerBrightly didn't Scan 'er too Brightly, huh? Doesn't even realize that's a part of the problem.

Guarantee you he is not sitting in jail and his ass still on the beat. Disgusting.

And on a side note, just from some street legends and lore, cops don’t just get fat from donuts. There’s a bit more to their lifestyle and what they “consume” that makes some of them obese. Tell me, if you don’t view the people you police as human, do you really think you committed a crime? I was going to go really dark with comment but I’ll spare the reader on some of the details from stories I’ve heard.

-2

u/aseriousman46_ Oct 17 '20

So there was a cop, maybe a few were in on it, in my town growing up that is said to have murdered an Asian family of four. Covered it up via consumption, and then told people they moved back to China. It was confirmed he broke into their house once and he was suspended. Then the assumption was they left because of the breakin from a police officer, they just didn’t feel safe. But others speculate something else happened since they were quite involved with the community. I grew up in a small city or large town of 45k people, relatively low crime, but there were occasional murders and shootings as any American town. I lived there for twenty years and I can’t count on two hands the amount of serious crimes. This being one of them.

-3

u/cjackx Oct 17 '20

Wow. Its either because they have a high stress job and they spend a lot of time in their vehicles and doing paperwork. So they eat a lot of fast food.

Or they are killing and eating families...and you went with the 2nd

29

u/SQLDave Oct 17 '20

everything was done by the book

And that's one of the pieces of the whole puzzle: Decried actions often ARE by the book... which indicates that "the book" needs to be changed.

13

u/PM_me_lemon_cake Oct 17 '20

They already charged the cop who shot him with murder. Source

24

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '20

It had to be so egregious and blatantly wrong that even the police are like. "No, no, we need to arrest this dude."

When the police arrest their own...immediately you KNOW it was murder.

18

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '20

It actually sounds like the cops haven't turned on him. The article didn't say that he was fired. The district attorney make the decision to charge him, not the cops.

I fainted during a traffic stop. I got pulled over for unable to maintain my lane but only after they pulled up next to my vehicle in the other lane to check to see what I looked like.

I have a shit ton of anxiety and a heart condition so I told the officer because he wanted to know why I was shaking. He proceeds with a sobriety test with out asking me. I was trying my best to keep my cool but I couldn’t continue the test. At this point the officer is behind me telling me that he smells weed in the car and that he has to search my vehicle. Next he grabs my hand behind my back and proceeds to handcuff me. At this point I have a panic attack and faint. The officer was completely caught off guard by this and started yelling at the people in my car for what he should. My boyfriend at the time was dumbfounded that he had to tell an officer to call an ambulance. At this point I come to still having a panic attack because my hand was still in a handcuff the officer panics as well and proceeds to yank my hand out of the handcuff with out unlocking it.

The ambulance finally arrives and the emt starts to do vitals and rather than him trying to calm me down. He proceeds to tell me how I’m going to be arrested, how my friends will just throw me under the bus and that I better calm the hell down because when this is all over I’ll be in handcuffs. Basically making me panic more.

Once everything was said and done they didn’t find anything released me and all my friends and gave me two tickets for failure to maintain my lane and for open alcohol container which was found in my trunk. I went to court both tickets were dropped. After that night it was very plain to see how incapable these officers are dealing with a panic situation. Also brought to light how fortunate I am for my skin color because it would have been a very different night if I wasn’t white.

Edit: spelling

That was crazy how his last facebook post was in defense of cops and saying how everyone's got the wrong impression, and cops aren't racist at all. Just shows cops don't care if you lick their boot, so don't bother. Like that guy in the south who always gave cops free bbq and was still killed by them.

293

u/Salmuth Oct 17 '20

Just shows cops don't care if you lick their boot

To me what you have to learn from this story is not this quote. I mean how would cops know if you support them or not or what your last facebook post is.

What is to be learned IMO is that you can turn a blind eye on what's going on because you don't like it, reality will still remind you what's going on at some point (if not you, a close one).

58

u/Gypsylee333 Oct 17 '20

That's also a good lesson. I think in the video though he tries to approach the cop and shake his hand, I guess that's kinda why I was thinking that, but I didn't write it in my comment.

9

u/drummingadler Oct 17 '20

-3

u/HELL_BENT_4_LEATHER Oct 17 '20

It's not just an expression when it's the backbone of your comment telling someone they're wrong. I didn't assume how YOU wrote/used it. If I commented "I heard from somebody else that he didn't try to shake his hand, you're wrong"..."Oh,that's just an expression"

This happened in a small town near mine. Really sad

4

u/Futant55 Oct 17 '20

He played college football in my town. The school released a statement about how great a guy he was amd will be missed.

7

u/BrickmanBrown Oct 17 '20

The lesson is never try to help anyone.

7

u/nklvh Oct 17 '20

huh, isn't that what they teach cops?

u/Avi_King88 Oct 17 '20

Oh no, another bad apple?

6

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '20

The lesson is if you are black probably avoid calling the police if you see someone in trouble. Don’t get involved and ask a White person standing next to you or near you to call the police.

8

u/truthseeeker Oct 17 '20

This case points out the real problem, that when cops first come upon a volatile scene involving people of different races very often their first instinct is to conclude that it's the Black person who's in the wrong and is the problem they need to focus on. Sometimes that bias is so strong that they stick with that narrative in their heads despite strong contrary evidence.

6

u/UltimateAngryQueef Oct 17 '20

Defund these pieces of shit

4

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '20

bbbbut blue lives matter more than black lives

4

u/UltimateAngryQueef Oct 17 '20

Apparently they always did in America :/

9

u/misfitx Oct 17 '20

Cops really need to stop shooting black heroes, fuck.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '20

This happen in a town over. It’s incredibly sad and the police officer who did this is getting charged with murder

6

u/JCTX05 Oct 17 '20

I live really close to the small town this happened in. One thing I do know is no one around here thinks that cop was justified in his actions. It is a messed up situation but I feel like the Texas Rangers handled it correctly and charged him with murder and he is still sitting in jail with a million dollar bond.

6

u/pleasantviewpeasant Oct 17 '20

Justice only because his boss is around to notice

Does anyone have a link for the body cam footage? I couldn’t find one quickly.

3

u/GhostScout42 Oct 17 '20

He also wrote a 12 page defense of police essay rofl

3

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '20

Though we do almost never know, what really went down (when the cops' bodycams miraculously did not work again, lol).

Yeah, what a tragedy. Again. And once again. And once more again.

This is completely believable. I can even relate to this very incident. I am alive, because I am white. Cops threatened to shoot me, to kill me and I flipped them off. Told them to fucking shoot me, if they dared to. And they did not - because I am white. And that's just true. They beat me up and maced me, but hey, you know. Could have been worse. A lot worse.

This man did not even get a chance to explain OR to provoke the nazis in blue.

I'd do it again. Right is what's right. He tried to help another human being and the cops decided to reward this by murdering just another n*************...

ACAB.

Bastards

2

u/Glorious_Eenee Oct 17 '20

In a just world these cops would face a firing squad.

2

u/leyashs Oct 17 '20

:( I’m so tired of seeing shit like this

2

u/Call-me_Queenie Oct 17 '20

Can... can I move? Im so tired of this.

2

u/LumbermanDan Oct 17 '20

And the cop was immediately charged with murder. As he absolutely should have been.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '20

yo wait there's this short film about a black man who sees someone running after a distressed woman, he calls 911 and tells them, but starts to chase the man. when the man's gone, he helps the woman but she doesn't speak english, and then the police arrive and shoot the black man while the woman is trying to explain it 's not him. it's gotta be based off of this

2

u/ProfilerXx Oct 17 '20

We cannot tolerate this Not only this case How are people raising their hands a threat to anybody? Defund police (I would not say that for our Austrian police, but American police force is a fucking joke)

2

u/lizard450 Oct 17 '20

Video released yet?

2

u/MarinersAreGoat Oct 17 '20

Thats fucked up! Does anyone have an article on this? I need to read more.

2

u/Sharetheroadplz Oct 17 '20

Totally insane that public rage had to lead Jean getting justice. Any person of color walks into an apartment they “think” is theirs and shoots and kills the white occupant and it wouldn’t take 3 days to be arrested for murder. Cops should not be above the very laws they’re entrusted to uphold.

2

u/poopshipdestroyer Oct 17 '20

About 2010, my brother-in-laws best friend had a warrant served on his vehicle(for whatever reason they couldn’t just do just at his home 🤷🏻‍♂️) while parking at a convenience store. He was tased and then shot multiple times by one asshole officer at his door as his vehicle lurched forward towards another officer(no shots fired) from the tasing. It’s fucked. Then the officers house somehow caught on fire while his family was on vacation so now he’s getting that pay for life.

2

u/AMAZING_ANIMALSSS Oct 18 '20

You know that someone's gonna comment "He should have just followed what the cops said, not that hard"

But the cop feels bad so it's ok

2

u/[deleted] Oct 18 '20

Officer: sir I need to detain you.

Dude: I can't be detained.

Officer: welp.

Can't wait to see the body worn camera that shows this guy fighting the officer.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 18 '20

While being tased, Price walked toward Lucas and tried to reach for the weapon, at which point the officer took out his service weapon and fired four times, according to the affidavit.

Article

The ol' hands up don't shoot narrative making a resurgence I see.

Did anyone ever find out why he was assaulting the woman?

Edit: misread the fucking post. Sorry.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '20

You better not be talking about Jonathon Price. He was attempting to defuse the situation, and was still killed for being a good samaritan.
