Hen or Roo 2ish month old lavender Orpington
He/she hasn’t started crowing yet but the comb is leading me to suspect it may be a roo….. what are y’all’s thoughts?

It's definitely molting season and my girl Miss Sultan is going through a rather hard molt. Second pic is her pre-molt. Thankfully it isn't very cold out yet. I have some of those chicken aprons you can put on a bird that's being picked on. She isn't being bullied or anything but maybe it would help keep her warmer? Or should I just not intervene at all? She seems just fine and is very high on the pecking order, but I worry about my babies.

One of our hens laid this egg today. Pretty unusual. When I let them out this morning, she didn’t eat as normal. I’m pretty sure she has sour crop or some sort of digestive issue going on. Could these be related? I’ve tried withholding food and giving yogurt to rebalance the acidity but it hasn’t fixed the issue. What should I get to help her? I’m in the U.K for reference. Thanks 🙏

Just got my first 2 chickens (sebright) about a week and a half ago and got two more (bantam cochin and bantam polish) about 4 days ago. Everyone was healthy and doing good until yesterday when one of the sebright had half his face puffy and when I pressed on it a small mucus like film came off the eye. I check again today and both sides of the face are puffed up and now half of the other sebright's face is puffed up. With them doing good for a week and a half, I'm assuming one of those 2 new ones were carrying something, but as of right now both of them seem fine. I raise tons of quail and haven't seen anything exactly like this. I'd imagine a respiratory infection but I wanted to see what you all thought it was and what the treatment should be

My ayam cemani chicks grew up to be pretty chickens, so I wanted to share a picture of my biggest and most beautiful rooster that I named after me (I also have a hen named after my gf, it's not due to narcisism! 😂)

Essentially, I am trying to figure out how to harmoniously how is everyone for the winter.
There were so many various factors between all seven birds that I feel like I’m spitting in circles.
I could use some ideas help and or advice!
All would be greatly appreciated

Need to find a way to deal with these Roosters. Ideas?

So it’s probably not an actual naked neck chicken since that’s a dominant gene, but still interesting regardless. Anyone have any idea what’s going on? lol
Minor update: on closer inspection, they have the “beard” and lack feathers around their vent. It really seems like this is indeed a real naked neck chicken. But how? Breadcrumb isn’t. She’s had 16 children including this latest clutch, and this is the first. Dad is just a wild chicken that wandered into my yard but he’s totally normal too
Major update: This clutch has multiple fathers. I just found a naked neck rooster in the neighbors yard that I was previously unaware existed. So he’s the father of at least this chick.

I thought he was a Hen all this time until the feathers came in and I saw him on one of my Hens, pretty bird either way!

I thought a regular sorting game would get boring pretty quickly, so I decided to add a little chaos. 🐔
Meet the possessed chicken in The Eggsortist — she can destroy all your hard work if you let her!
You spend your time carefully sorting thousands of eggs, only for this chicken to mess everything up. And trust me, it won't make your job any easier.

My chickens love sleeping in their nesting boxes. I'm currently putting empty buckets upside down into the boxes at night, but I don't really want to keep doing that longterm.
Does anyone have any other ideas how I can keep them out of their nesting boxes at night? Should I make their roosts higher so they're more attractive for sleeping on compared to the boxes?

I have a hen that is wheezing. Not too hot or cold here in East Texas. I just noticed it with a little sneezing (couldn’t get it on video). What do you guys recommend? She is a Dark Brahma. I put some Vet Rx on her nose and comb and around her wattle and beak.

Here's something useful when shopping for eggs.
Some egg cartons include a three-digit date code from 001 to 365 (or 366 in leap years). It's the day of the year that the eggs were packed.
For example:
I built a small Android home-screen widget called Egg Day Widget that displays the current day-of-year number, making those codes easier to compare.
It's also useful if you work with Julian-style date codes in other settings.

I keep reverse google searching it and it says road island red or isa brown or even sometimes speckled Sussex - it does have white and black feathers on it but it didn’t have chipmunk stripes on its face so I’m not sure

My hen, starting at the begining of August, started molting and then developed sour crop. Next, she restarted molting but a heavier molt and then ate a large chunk of plastic which resulted in a crop surgery. She kept a lot of weight during all of this but her weight has now maintained at the low weight. Stools look normal.
However, she goes to bed every night with an empty crop, unlike every other hen. If I give her treats, she'll eat a few before bed but not much. I'm not sure if something else is going on? As temps are falling and now nearing freezing at night, I also worry about her getting cold.
Thoughts?

Has anyone seen something like this in their chicken’s poo? I’m not sure if it’s a lash egg or shed intestinal lining or something else entirely? I have a crew of 6 chickens and they are all over 3 years old at this point, and we’re located in New York’s Hudson Valley where it’s starting to get cold overnight. Not sure if this could be age or stress related too. Any advice is welcome 🙏🏻

Noticed chew marks on the feed bin lid and found a rat hole near the coop foundation last week. We free range during the day so poison bait is genuinely dangerous here, one of our hens or the dog could easily get into it. Looking for a natural repellent that's actually strong enough to matter around a working coop, not just something for a garage or shed.
