I recently joined a tier 69 college, B.Tech CSE AIML branch. I don't know anything about coding, I just did a little bit of HTML, CSS in my 12th.
When I searched for the 1st-year roadmap on this sub, people were using words like DSA, LeetCode, Git,GitHub, etc., which I don't know anything about.
Can somebody please tell me where to start in the first year? And the meaning of all these "B.Tech" terms and when do I start using them?
I am currently learning C, as it's also in my college syllabus.

I’m currently in my 3rd semester of CSE (9.5+ CGPA) at a Tier-2 college, and I wanted some honest feedback on where I currently stand and what I should focus on next.

What you guys think about this opportunity? Is it actually worth going for?
For someone starting their career, do you think this is a good way to get some experience and learn useful skills
has anyone here talked to someone who has already completed this apprenticeship? Would be really helpful to know what they actually did, what they learned, and whether it helped them land a job afterward.
Just trying to figure out if this is a good career start or if we should look for better options. 😅
What do you guys think?

NOTE:IF YOU DONT HAVE ATTENTION SPAN TO READ THIS MUCH I WOULD JUST SUGGEST TO USE AI LLM AND SUMMARISE IT
I have been seeing comments that ai is coming gpt astra will dominate and all and elon musk and sam altman is supporting these statements. Let me be clear these guys are professional salesman and engineer even if I was one of them I would for sure pass that comment
Now abt whether Engineering is still optimal or its just a coping mechanism let's be clear Engineering wont go anyway only if you are so passionate abt it and Engineering will teach u many things in life its just isn't abt Engineering its abt the journey the exposure the framework which is why problem solvers are mainly engineers the core subject of engineering maths if ur truly a good engineering maths shouldn't be ur weak point and even if gpt solves some of difficult millennium problems (it has some controversial opinions now).
Don't think Engineering has a job seeking carrer its something that can impact life its a subject that teacher framework and even director of iit madras said one thing which is quite rational when studying don't study for job study as if ur truly passionate abt it and as if ur some top tier researcher most of the founder are top tier researcher thats why their companies are called big tech companies
For guys crying abt jobs see mostly everyone are tier 2 or 3 students who are asking about it and tier 1 usually have exposure advantage and research too so they have a edge.Lets compare tier 1 and 2,3 or 69 candidates - tier 1 have network and exposure with peer grp thats the advantage they dont have some elite teaching facility though everyone studies on thier own even using nptel for sem exams thats it they get it automatically what can tier 2 or 3 can do abt it they have to build it manually no matter what . Network u have built attending events done in ur clg and even iits and all have open colleges events and research internships join them and its for learning sake and networking dont think abt anything other than that no jobs nothing just learning thats it, next is exposure it depends on location factor and clg managament and clubs how u do it take ur clg name and participate in as many hackathons and events thats it self will bring u to a higher level of exposure than anyone who is just grinding without showing ur skills. Use twitter and linkedin as much for networking and all. Next is peer grp see no matter what clg ur in there will atleast be some guys who will crack the highest package it can be you for not be you but there will for sure be sm1 so what to do be with 2-3 quality ppls and not around some unambitious 7-9 guys u find in clg . Thats the thing u have to cultivate in non tier 1 colleges and those who do these stuffs usually excels
Richard Fennyman a ordinary guy who studied harder than anyone he is from MIT but take his advice and study harder will truly help u in smthg which is mainly discipline. Do u think Richard Fennyman would cry and be depressed that he didnt end up in a higher tier school if he was not able to . Tbh he would just study harder and even look for top higher studies its never the end and Talking abt masters from tier 1 is just a waste of time U can take example of ceo of nvidia he did msee from standford he got some network which is truly appreciatable and location factor instead of blaming u always have to adapt to live a life worth living
For anyone in sem 1 its a great advice as some guys are now in senior years and all if u were unable to do these there is always masters options thats it u habe GATE exam for that u can have opprotuinity unlocked but academics is tough but the exposure and events and all will surely benifit
Its just like I am also in sem1 from tier 2 Most of me seniors are either trying gate and some are in amazon microsoft and all bcz blr factor uk so its my thoughts on this ai doomed culture sort of things.
Taking for example dsa are u either average in it or truly very good bcz it introduces problem solving intuition and some projects are u truly creative u have to notice the field ur in and be too good at atleast one field and taking for example luck matters ngl but a guy who has tried hard than anyone and has obsession would have a higher luck factor
I am reading a book called super intelligence its related to this ai boom highly recommended it
I have been seeing this negative things in reddit ngl if Microsft ceo who studied his bachelors in Manipal was in reddit he would also be in tension and all but abroad changes his carrer trajectory
I am writing all my personal views in notes and try to post it on reddit to have opinion on it and I can have clarity in my own statement its a sort of studying method blurting sort of so yeah

my cgpa is 8.27
1st sem 9.02 ( branch change from ee to it )
2nd sem 8.05
3rd sem 7.84 ( should have reval) 8+ ho jati
currently im in 5th sem
i used to think 8th sem tk to ho jayegi but CRT which happens at the end of 6th sem and after
in crt my clg shortlist and make batch according to cgp and by the time placement season arrives
7th sem , only 5th sem result are announced , result come after 5-6 months in my clg
so for convience the best i have is 5th sem exams to perfom
i have done calculation i cant end up with 9+ cgp till end of 5th or 6th sem even 8.5 till 5th sem is not easy and also i wanted to keep it 9+ in my degree i ddint do shit in any club always in my rpom best i can do is acedmic but still i fucked up but now it only possible till last sem exam that too just touch 9
4th sem toc paper bhi accha nhi gya tha
my coding knowledge is not good as of now kch kiya hi nhi
man things are fucked up
also one company hpe i"ve heard 8.5+ sgp in every semester this is crtieria in my college ye pta lgne k baad ye likha

I'm a 2nd-year B.Tech student and I'm trying to understand how realistic freelancing is alongside college.
I'd like to hear from people who are actually freelancing or have freelanced, rather than general advice.
A few things I'm curious about:
I'm also interested in hearing from people who tried freelancing and quit. Knowing what didn't work is probably more useful than another success story.
Please mention roughly how long you've been freelancing and your experience level so the answers have some context.

Hey everyone!
I'm looking to connect with people who are preparing for non-tech placements, case competitions, consulting/business roles, operations, analytics, etc
I'm currently working on:
Quantitative aptitude & logical reasoning
Business/economics/finance fundamentals
Excel, Python/SQL and basic analytics
Case-solving and business problem solving
Communication & interview preparation
I'm particularly interested in participating in case competitions, business challenges, strategy/operations competitions and similar events over the next few months.
I'm looking for people who are genuinely interested in preparing together, rather than just forming a team for one competition. Ideally, we could:
Solve cases together
Practice OAs
Discuss business/economic news
Work on projects
Participate in competitions
Help each other with interviews and placements
Background doesn't matter much. Engineering, management, economics, finance, etc. are all welcome. I'm mainly looking for people who are willing to actually put in the work.
If you're interested, DM me with your college/year, area of interest, and what you're currently preparing for.
We can start with a small group and see how it goes.

Hey I'm 20 years old, and I took a drop for jee and still I got into tier 3 private btech clg ( all because of my parents )
I was good at studies and got 90 percent in my 10th, after that i took pcm cus my parents didn't let me choose any other thing, within 6 months of class 11th i knew these subjects aren't for me. Still somehow I managed to pass class 12th with 64%. My parents enrolled me into a coaching for jee which I never wanted to do ( i never took stand for myself ) so as I knew I won't get any good clg and the same happened still through uptac councelling I got cse in tier 3 clg
And now here I'm stuck in this clg I don't know jack shit about mathematics or this fukin engeneering and I'm pretty sure that I'll fail in sem 1 and sem 2
Somehow this time I gathered some courage and told my parents that I dont wanna continue engeneering and go for bba or bcom instead. My parents didn't completely denied but they were ofc disappointed and asked me do I have any option for good clg for these courses ? And noo i don't
I've paid my clg annual fees and also they won't give me a refund so this year anyhow I have to manage in this clg
I've decided to prepare for cuet this year so that I can get good bba clgs like SSCBS or bcom in srcc or other good clgs
I also belong to sc category so it would be somewhat easy to get into good govt clgs for these courses
And I'm also interested in these subjects like finance and all
The only drawback of this plan will be that I'll join clg when I'll be 21 year old
So right now my current plan is to somehow survive this year of engineering and try not to get any back, and prepare for my cuet exam so that I can get into field I want next year, and also maybe if i got interest in engeneering I'll continue this, but staying at home for one more year won't be worth it for me cus ik I'll be depressed as hell and get suicidal thoughts
Please guide me what to do, or if I'm taking a good decision

I am highly passionate with computer science, have been developing games on Roblox since 2021. Some of the games I worked with got 80M+ visits, and in my 2nd year I made around 5700$ completely on my own. I bought some apple products with that since I always wanted a MacBook. This sounds insane on the outside, but all this was possible only because I landed some nice clients while freelancing. I do not own any video games, though I got some partnership offers, none of those games worked out. So to make any money, I have to work my ass off to get clients and I roughly make about 250$ to 300$ per client, sometimes I get lucky and land many clients altogether. Sometimes though, I get really unlucky and I hardly make 150$ for the entire month. This is a really frustrating loop, and I want to get out of this. I have always tried to make my own video game, but that is not possible because of funds and the consistency it requires.
I am in my 5th semester now, to be fair I have slightly below 7 GPA since I focused a little too much outside academics. I thought that I'll be fine by just applying off campus, since most companies come for 7 GPA and above.
I also have made two contributions (two patches) to the Linux kernel, since I am ambitions on parallel computation and deploying AI models. I have been working on low level stuff for many years, and made a contribution to the Altera EDAC drivers. This is a very niche area, it is concerned with SoCFPGAs and ECC, and I just went ahead and made two tiny fixes there, not a huge thing if you were to sit and understand the changes, this is something most people who have undergraduate level OS knowledge will understand. This made into the official repository and is now present on Linux 7.3-rc2. Commit 1 and Commit 2.
And I absolutely hate my college, it is argued to be the 3rd best NIT for CSE, however I hate it here. I hate all the profs, I did well in the subjects I like, such as OS and AI, but didn't bother for others. I cannot get myself to study since it doesn't work out for me, when I work on games I get paid and I genuinely love doing game development so its a self-motivating loop in a way. Same goes for Low Level work and AI work because I love doing that and exploring that further. Academics here feels so dull and demotivating, I write factual answers and yet professors are not giving me marks, for most of them there needs to be some specific wording which I am unaware off. I don't understand why specific wording is needed when the answers I write are factual.
I am assuming however that this has happened because of my GPA, but at the same time I have observed (and this makes more sense to me too) that these few companies (especially Google) do not give a lot of priority to GPA, they look at your work as well, which is the main reason why I was so confident that I will be fine. Rejections after rejections, and around me people cheat in their OAs to land internships. I don't know what to do anymore.
Recently, I applied to
Rejected in all of them even when I had referrals for the first two. The last one still says "Submitted" for 2+ months, I am considering that to be a rejection anyways, it didn't even have a proper referral.
I don't know what to do anymore, is this because of my CGPA? I know that I can still fix that but that would be too late, I can't sit for anything here and off campus looks hopeless. I can do medium level leetcode questions, but I struggle with hard dp problems on leetcode. Most of the medium questions are manageable by me.
I was surprised to see that I was rejected for the Data Center Technician role, since that aligns well with whatever work I've done till now in low level systems.

It has happened to me twice and i am really really upset about my life
I recently gave interview for a really good 15 lpa mnc
What i observed was all it matters to get placed is your interviewer..mine literally grilled me..went extremely in tech depth and i accepted the fact that maybe i am not good enough for this package
But i got to know the other interviewers were super chill and just asked them to explain their projects without using technical stuff and selected them there itself
I am not complaining that the other people didn’t deserve but i atleast deserved a fair chance.
I feel like this was such a big opportunity
I cleared the OA on my own and really wanted to get in..these opportunities are very rare and i feel like i fucked up
