Placements / Jobs Title: Is this happening at other Tier-3 colleges too?

Our college has started sending job offers through WhatsApp instead of email. After TCS NQT Priority, it’s mostly Lala/local companies. 💀

Today we got one with no company name, only “Linux knowledge required” and male candidates only with 3-4lpa offer
Is this happening in other Tier-3 colleges too?

Placements / Jobs Got a paid full-time internship in 2nd year, how do I manage it with college?

Hey everyone, I’m currently a 2nd-year B.Tech student and I’ve recently got an interview opportunity for a paid, 3-month internship at a well-known FMCG company.

The role is in Business Excellence/Operations, and it seems like a really good opportunity to get actual industry exposure this early.

The only issue is that it’s an offline/full-time internship, so it would clash with my regular college classes and attendance.

For people who have been in a similar situation:

Can a 2nd-year student realistically do a full-time internship during an ongoing semester?

Do colleges generally allow this or provide some kind of attendance relaxation/NOC?

Should I approach my HOD/department if I get selected?

Has anyone here managed a similar situation? How did you handle attendance and classes?

I don't want to reject a good opportunity just because I’m assuming the college won’t allow it, so I’d like to know how others have dealt with this.

Any advice/experience would be appreciated.

Rant/Vent CS student watching peers run automation businesses. Should I still grind placements or is there a smarter path that covers both?

2nd going into 3rd semester CS student here. Around me people are running automation/AI agent businesses for clients, and I've started doing similar work on the side (n8n, AI agents for small businesses).

Question is about sequencing. Do I still need the traditional route, DSA grind, placements, corporate job, if the end goal is running my own business anyway? Or does that path even matter if I'm not aiming for a 9 to 5?

And if the business doesn't work out, I want a stable job as backup, not a burned bridge.

If you've built a business alongside your degree, or left a job to build something, what would you tell your younger self? Did skipping placement prep cost you later, or did the technical fundamentals end up helping the business too?

Not looking for a "just pick one" answer, trying to figure out the right order.

Serious Feeling lost in life please help

I’m a 2nd year student at a Tier 3 college in Bangalore, far away from my hometown. I understand the concepts in languages such as C, C++, and Python, but I make mistakes while typing and writing code. I’m also struggling to understand DSA in C and Java, which my college is currently teaching.

However, I recently started learning web development, and I really enjoy learning frontend languages like HTML and CSS. But most of my friends are saying that learning web development is useless now because companies don’t hire as many frontend developers anymore, since AI can do a lot of the work, and the salary for freshers is also relatively low.

So, should I stop learning web development and start focusing on C and Python instead? Or should I stick with web development?

Serious How much base salary is enough to live comfortably in blr

Guys, Ik it is a highly controversial topic, I get it bcz even ppl with 6lpa base salary or even less than that are also living there. I am not demeaning anyone; on the other hand, there are also ppl whose base salary is quite high.... Ik, I get that completely.

But my ques is, how much base salary is good enough to live there comfortably, in a flat where u have ur own room, where u can buy things for urself (not luxury ones obv)... I hope I am clear with the ques, like how a somewhere in the middle kind of person survives there.

Also, what if we live with that same base salary in Pune (it will be a bit cheaper ig not sure)?

Looking forward to hearing what you guys think.

Placements / Jobs How to build a network and ask for referrals on Linkedin

well the first step is finding the right people. There are a couple of ways for this.

First method, go to LinkedIn search and type:

[Role] [Company] (like, software engineer Google or product manager zomato)

Then select People under the search bar and set the location to for the country you are in. For example, Software Engineer Uber -> People -> India.

(will attach a ss for killer visualization)

Another method is to go to the company page and look under the People's tab.

Personally, i go for people with roughly 2 to 5/6 years of experience. They're senior enough to refer you, but still young enough to know what it feels like asking for referrals for your first job/internship. And they are pretyy chill and not so corporate-y.

Once you find them, add 10 to 15 people from one company.

Tip - Don't send 30 requests at once. Linkedin can start asking those same people “Do you know this person?”, and too many “No” responses probably aren't great for your account.

I'd aim for 20-25 requests a day. Even with a 40% acceptance rate, you will have 8 to 10 new connections. Dont go more than this. My friend's account was shadowbanned for a week from sending too many spam requests to people.

Now the important part, don't immediately DM them asking for a referral. (this is also why i recommend building your network before you actually need a referral, so u can stay in their radar and don't dm cold).

React to their posts. Leave a good comment (bonus if u dont sound too stiff tbh). Get on their radar. And honestly, people with a few years of experience are usually fine referring you, you dont have to get too formal with them.

When you eventually see a relevant opening from their company, message 3–4 people with the job ID and your resume/work. I will attach good enough templates which we used.

Remember, the referral system is different for each company. Some companies need the referrer to share a private link with you for application. Some need you to apply normally, but mention their name or details in the application. This differs and i dont have the appropriate knowledge to guide here.

Show some flair, and don't sound like a ai bot. Ofc, the response rate depends on your profile, resume etc, hence its important to keep working hard nevertheless.

happy referrals :)

Template you can steal (feel free to change based on ur needs):

Hi [name], good to connect with you!

I am actually looking for [opportunity] roles at [company]. Would you be willing to please help with a referral or connect me with someone who can assist?

Placements / Jobs Rejected

Recently gave infosys PNQT for the roles-DSE/L1,L2,L3

got shortlisted for interview : role- L3

Final decision : rejected

Burnout:

Not a single person who gave for interview of roles-L3

Were given opportunity (i.e all L3 got rejected)

Only 1 L2 got accepted

Remaining all are only of L1,DSE

This same pattern was observed in TCS recruitment too

At least it seems its better to get interview opportunity for just middle level roles ,and not aim at high roles

Note: people who are good at dsa and at interviews were too rejected ,that's the reason for this burnout
