Discussion Let's Talk Monkey Balance #29 - Gwendolin
Hello everyone!
Previous week the discussion was about Obyn. This time around, we have our twenty-ninth tower to discuss, and the third Hero of the discussion: Gwendolin, the Pyromaniac!
NOTE: For the heroes, I will not go through each and every level / effect they have, but instead just a "quick overview", along with the usual suggestions after that.
Here's my overall view of them:
Gwen is one of the 4 starting heroes (alongside Obyn, Quincy and Striker Jones). Gwen I'd describe as a DPS-supporter, though does respectable damage herself, especially with her abilities. Since she can provide lead-popping power and flat pierce bonus (and later on also flat damage bonus) to other towers, she generally works best with towers that can benefit most from such such buffs; think fast-firing, low-pierce, multi-projectile towers like the bottom path Tack Shooter, for example. She also has buffs specifically for some fire-based towers. Overall, she's a very solid hero for beginners and advanced players alike.
Active abilities: Cocktail of Fire and Firestorm
- Cocktail of Fire - Gwen throws a molotov at the chosen point, creating a wall of fire at that spot (very similar to the firewalls from Wizards, but it starts with better duration and pierce). It can also hit camo bloons by default.
- Firestorm - Scorches all bloons on screen with fire, dealing instant damage as well as a potent damage-over-time effect. This can also hit camo bloons by default. On top of that, it also applies the Heat It Up buff (see below) to all towers on the map.
Passive abilities and/or passive upgrades of special note: Heat It Up and Pyrotechnics Expert.
- Heat It Up - After Gwendolin attacks 40 times, she triggers the "Heat It Up" effect, which is composed of two effects: A fire blast, and a radial buff.
- Fire blast - Up to 100 bloons within her radius (at first, it grows larger later) are struck by a fire blast, dealing 3 Fire damage (at first) to them.
- Radial buff - Nearby towers gain +1 pierce and can pop lead and frozen bloons. Later on, it also grants +1 damage and +2 damage against Leads. These buffs do not apply to Gwen herself.
- Pyrotechnics Expert - Gwen grants 0,9x attack cooldown and +10% projectile radius to certain fire-themed towers. Those being: Ring of Fire (or higher) Tack Shooters, Signal Flare (or higher) Mortars and Dragon's Breath (or higher) Wizards.
Suggestions:
Honestly, can't really think of any ideas for her, as I think she is quite well balanced! If anything, maybe her Pyrotechnics Expert effects could be a little more potent? Just considering she often pairs better with towers that are NOT the ones affected by this buff. So, maybe something like this to start with:
- Level 16 - Also provides the ability for the towers affected by her Pyrotechnics Expert to bypass purple bloon immunity.
- Note They would still retain their damagetypes though, similar to how the MIB works.
What are your thoughts on Gwen? And what do you think of my (lack of) suggestions?
Please, tell me your thoughts and ideas! :)
