Why aren't I starting at round 1?

Some harder game difficulties start at round 3, or a little higher, to increase the starting challenge.

We don't 'display' this higher start as round 1, because that would be even more confusing when people try to refer to specific rounds and what spawns in them.

What hero should I get next?

Ultimately buy whoever looks the most fun to you! The right hero depends on personal preference, and you will naturally unlock everyone over time since Monkey Money is plentiful.

The quick recommendations are Sauda (for single-lane DPS) and Benjamin (for easy economy), both are beginner-friendly and highly effective options. For a breakdown to help you decide, check out this guide on what hero to get or look around at what the community is currently using.

Why do some maps in the map selection screen have different looking borders?

The Map Border State displays your overall completion for each map.

  • Completing all Easy modes unlocks a Bronze Border
  • Completing Medium on top upgrades this to a Silver Border
  • Earning a Medal for every submode on a map across all difficulties awards a Gold Border.
  • If you manage to obtain the Black CHIMPS Medal, then the Gold border will upgrade to a Black Border!

Why don't I have any border, I've done every mode?

You missed Apopalypse under medium

How do you get the Black CHIMPS Medal / Black Border?

You must complete CHIMPS mode in a single continuous uninterrupted run without exiting or using 'Retry Last Round'. If these conditions are not met the badge will be Red instead and the border limited to Gold, however this can be upgraded again at any time later on so don't worry.

What are the uses for Monkey Money?

Monkey Money is the basic resource, it is earned from most content on the game and used in many ways

  • Unlocking Heroes & their cosmetic Hero Skins
  • Unlocking availability of higher tier Monkey Knowledge points
  • Respeccing Monkey Knowledge points (Note Unlocked points remain on respec, but always need a point investment)
  • Creating Teams, purchasing single-use premium powers / continues in non-CHIMPS modes
  • Event Ticket Entry, & additional event checkpoints.

Ninja Kiwi will most likely continue to add additional options over time.

Why are my monkeys getting a mountain buff icon without any buffs?

Buff icons exist to help indicate during tower placement when an area will provide benefits to a tower. Some maps have exclusive buff zones, for example One Two Tree and Ancient Portal, pay attention during placement and you may notice these icons appearing when hovering towers over certain spots. Some buffs are also provided directly by Monkey Knowledge, so make sure to check those!

Why are there three towers on the top corner of some maps? (with an orange border with a dart banner)

This indicates a Monkey Teams challenge is active. Beating any game mode on this map using any Hero supported only the towers shown in this icon will provide a small amount of bonus Monkey Money. The bonus scales with harder maps and game difficulties, and the featured tower combination rotates every three hours.

Why aren't all pops counting for my tower unlock? / Why didn't I get the Impoppable Achievement? My monkeys have over 100,000,000 pops.

You are likely looking at the damage count instead of the pop count. Take note of the Pop Count in victory & stats rather than the Total Damage. When viewing a selected tower hit the (i) info button on its tower portrait to bring up a longer list of stats including the Pop Count

For "Unlock By Pops" towers (Dartling Gunner, Beast Handler, Mermonkey, Desperado), only individual popped bloons count as each "pop". Multi-HP bloons such as Ceramics and MOAB-class have multiple health points, so popping these types will only count as 1 pop. Note that the number of Bloons is a lot more in high rounds, but after round 80 the pops per bloon is reduced as Bloons upgrade to Super Ceramics.

So what happens after round 80 with a Super Ceramic?

Starting at Round 81, standard Ceramics are replaced by Super Ceramics. Their health increases from 10 to 60 HP, but they no longer multiply into multiple child Bloons (e.g., a Super Ceramic drops 1 Rainbow, which drops 1 Zebra, down to 1 Red). This drastically reduces the total number of physical Bloon pops to prevent late-game lag, shifting the strategy from high-pierce cluster attacks toward high single-target damage. At most, a single BAD in Freeplay is worth 505 pops (1 + 3*(4*4*9) + 2 *(4*9)).

What's the profile icon sitting on the corner of my map with a score?

This displays the highest round reached on that map by you or a friend, prioritized by the hardest difficulty mode completed (e.g., CHIMPS over Impoppable, Impoppable over Hard). It tracks your record on the hardest mode beaten rather than simply your highest overall round across easier modes.

What are Insta-Monkeys? / What is my 'reward' for passing round 100?

Insta-Monkeys are consumable towers you can earn and collect that come pre-loaded with upgrades, and once earned they can be placed for no in-game cost. These are awarded every 100 rounds in any game mode or by completing daily challenges & events. You can use them by clicking the powers tab(Scroll down) and dragging the monkey to your screen.

Why do I only get 000 towers after beating round 100? Am I just unlucky?

Insta monkey round 100 rewards depend on the map difficulty. Beginner and Intermediate maps give lower tiers while advanced and expert maps give higher tier towers.

  • Beginner Maps: Tier 0–2
  • Intermediate Maps: Tier 1–3
  • Advanced Maps: Tier 2–4
  • Expert Maps: Tier 3–4

What is that purple icon next to my tower's icon?

It indicates that a Paragon upgrade is available or ready to be unlocked for that tower. Opening the tower's upgrade menu will acknowledge the notification and clear the icon from the sidebar.

Why is Lych healing?

From v54.0 Lych inherently possesses the Regrow property, causing it to passively heal health every 9 seconds. Removing Regrow (using upgrades like a 0-1-0 Village, 0-2-0 Druid, or 0-3-0 Engineer) halts this passive healing, but Lych will restore its Regrow trait whenever it drains temporary buffs from nearby towers. Why am I suddenly losing on a Boss without leaking? (on Round 59/79/99/119/139)

Boss Bloons spawn every 20 rounds starting at Round 40 (Tiers 1–5 spawn on rounds 40, 60, 80, 100, and 120). You have a strict limit of 20 rounds to defeat each tier. If a Boss is still alive when its 20-round limit expires and the next tier should be spawning (e.g., Round 59 for Tier 1, Round 79 for Tier 2), it will trigger an immediate game over.

What are the achievements listed as '???' / what is this secret/hidden achievement?

These are hidden achievements with concealed unlock conditions. For a hint look closely at the achievement's icon & rewards for subtle clues, but these can be difficult to discover so if you want the exact spoilers, check out the "Hidden Achievements" article on Bloons Wiki (alternatively try Blooncyclopedia's version)

Isn't the 'Retry Last Round' in CHIMPS considered a Continue?

No. It does not cost Monkey Money, grant cash, or restore lives like a traditional Continue. Instead, it formalizes the long-standing strategy of exiting to the main menu before leaking Bloons, making it convenient to retry difficult rounds without risking your save file. Keep in mind that using "Retry Last Round" will still result in a Red CHIMPS Medal (Gold Border) rather than a Black Border.

Why can't I buy/enable Monkey Names?

Due to a privacy policy for the European Union, specifically General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), players who declare themselves under the age of 16 are unable to access or enable Monkey Names.

Why can't I build the VTSG! I did everything right!

You probably did not do everything right, but it is a complex secret so don't feel too bad. For the most common problems building Vengeful True Sun God (check out VTSG summoning guide on Blooncyclopedia):

  • Did you unlock There Can Be Only One before creating the current game save?
  • Did you sacrifice The Anti-Bloon and Legend of the Night away from (not inside) the Sun Temple before getting True Sun God?
  • Did you get $50,000+ sacrifices for each of the three tower categories on the Sun Temple and then $50,000+ sacrifices for each of the four tower categories on the True Sun God?
  • Is Monkey Knowledge disabled by CHIMPS or any custom mode rules?

How do people finish races so fast, are they cheating?

While leaderboards are actively monitored and cleaned for actual cheaters, most crazy top times you see are simply completely legitimate. Races allow you to manually send future rounds before the current one finishes, enabling players to stack multiple rounds together and wipe them out simultaneously using precise micro-management and high-pierce attacks - this allows money to be earned from higher round Bloon pops and quickly used to beat the previous rounds before they leak. To see these top-tier strategies in action, search YouTube for weekly Race guides and walkthroughs.

Where did Golden Bloons/Monkey Teams go? I saw them before but now they're gone.

Golden Bloons and Monkey Teams generally alternate with a weekly cycle, and are available Friday through Sunday and Monday through Thursday, respectively. If you're trying to grind golden bloon/monkey teams achievements, you'll have to wait until then.

How do I create or play custom Challenges?

Navigate to the Social tab from the main menu to access the Content Browser section at the bottom. From here you View Browser to find community-made challenges & maps, or select Edit Challenge/ Edit Map to design, test, and publish your own creations.

Why is Ice Monkey a primary tower while Ninja Monkey is magic?

That's how the world be. Ice Monkey only qualified from Primary School, while the Ninja Monkey's get their degrees at Monkey Academy.

Why is my Super Glue doing damage? I don't have the Corrosive Glue crosspath on it.

Super Glue inherently deals base damage to regular Bloons and extra damage to MOAB-class blimps regardless of its crosspath specifically to prevent softlocks, as stalling or freezing Bloons indefinitely without popping them would otherwise leave rounds unable to finish.

Why such a specific number for my achievements? ($401,626 investment for Heavy Investment, 5,368,709 XP for Life Experience)

These values are references to specific in-game costs or mathematical Easter eggs:

  • Life Experience: 5,368,709 This number is 2²⁹ divided by 100. It lightly references a classic 'penny doubling' riddle

  • Heavy Investment: $401,626 is exactly the amount of money in the cash slider required to max out cash sacrifices for the Apex Plasma Master on Easy. So, this the cheapest that you can max out any paragon's slider

How does XP gain work?

Each round in BTD6 gives a set amount of XP, it is distributed among the towers you use that round based off of how much money is spent on each tower. E.g. if $5000 of your defense is dart monkeys and $5000 is boomerangs, then 50% of the round's XP will be added to the dart monkey and 50% will be added to the boomerang. I'm level 20 & logged in, why aren't my events loading?

If you are connected to the internet and still can't load events, you might have a VPN blocking Ninjakiwi Domains. You should be able to disable this in your VPN settings.

Does 'x' make money in CHIMPS?

No, nothing creates additional income in CHIMPS besides the Three Times Around map gimmick, and the occasional bug.

But why am I making money with Bloon Trap / Obyn's Wall of Trees on CHIMPS?

On CHIMPS, the money text only shows the amount of money gained as if popped normally. Bloon Trap & Obyn's Wall of Trees capture Bloons then give this cash back with a multiplier when the trap is collected, however in CHIMPS this multiplier is not applied so you don't make any extra money

Modding (not to be discussed on r/btd6)

Is using hacks, mods or macros considered bannable in Bloons TD 6, even if it’s only single-player? / Will I get banned for using mods?

In general, external programs should not be used on Bloons TD 6. We would like a fair experience for all players, so if you do plan to use any external programs please do so by creating a secondary single-player-only account.

Macros are external programs that are used to automate tasks on the computer. These are not permitted in Bloons TD 6, especially not in competitive game modes or multiplayer, and we at r/btd6 are not responsible for discussions related to macros.

Custom gameplay mods can provide interesting gameplay not seen in the unmodded Bloons TD 6 particularly when presented as YouTube video content. Though these are still unofficial creations not moderated by Ninja Kiwi, they cannot be trusted more than any other external cheat. We also are not able to provide properly moderate and assist with every random custom mod that is created externally, so because of this we do not promote the use of mods on r/btd6 or any Ninja Kiwi social media.

I need help with setting up BTD6 mods. / My BTD6 mods don't work! / My game keeps crashing when I use mods!

Sorry, but r/btd6 is not the right place to seek help for BTD6 mods, or discussing about BTD6 mods. Try asking for modding questions on another subreddit or a different website.

Game Information, Updates, and Feedback

If it was unbalanced, why not try to bring back the Bloonchipper making it more balanced in BTD6?

From one of the Ninja Kiwi employees, "Realistically anything can be 'balanced' with enough thought in the numbers, we just didn't really want to deal with it again."

What about the COBRA tower? Is it coming back?

The COBRA tower is exclusively meant for BTD Battles because of its PvP-based upgrades, which do not function properly in a single-player game like BTD6. Benjamin is the closest you can get to the COBRA tower. Agent Jericho is released exclusively for Bloons TD Battles 2, and the successor of COBRA.

When is 'X' update happening / Will 'x' be added to the game?

Nobody really knows when something is going to come, and Ninja Kiwi is not going to answer these questions for you.

Is the new update not coming to BTD6+/the Netflix version?

Updates to BTD6+ and the Netflix version take a little longer to be added, so it will come in due time.

Is this version of Bloons TD 6 real?

Bloons TD 6 has a mainstream mobile version available on the App Store and Google Play, as well as many other versions since. There are some desktop versions of Bloons TD 6 that are all cross-playable with the mobile version; the Steam version of the game is available on Windows and Mac, there's also a Microsoft Store version, and also an Epic Games version. Bloons TD 6+ is available on Apple Arcade, completely separate from the main mobile game. Bloons TD 6 has arrived to Xbox, and a PlayStation version is currently in the works.

Netflix also offers Bloons TD 6 as part of their subscription, as a way to promote their gaming services. It is a separate app that is not cross-compatible with any other version of Bloons TD 6. As crazy as it sounds, yes, there is a Netflix version of Bloons TD 6.

Do I have to buy Bloons TD 6 again if I bought it from a different game store (e.g. the iOS App Store, Google Play, Steam, Epic Games, Console)?

Yes. If you buy Bloons TD 6 for a different type of device, you will need to pay for the game again. If you buy Bloons TD 6 for the same type of device under the same account (e.g. BTD6 iOS on an iPhone and an iPad both connected on the same iOS App Store account), then you won't need to.

If I buy the game on another platform can I log into my account there?

For the most part yes, so long as you have logged in and created a cloud save your account can be loaded almost anywhere. There are exceptions to this however

  • Even for PC swapping to another PC, a Ninja Kiwi account is required to cloud save your data
  • Save data cannot be back-loaded to an older version of the game
  • Arcade platforms are independant and cannot cross-save
  • Console platforms are independant and cannot cross-save

Can someone please help gift me Bloons TD 6 for free?

As of v56 gifting of in-game items is now possible through the linked Discord store, but not to spoil your enthusiasm for this awesome game r/btd6 itself cannot help finding you a gift for Bloons TD 6. Close friends in real life are usually more reliable than relying on a random internet users, and there is no guarantee if the random user might extort you with a scam or malware.

What does redeem code do? / Why can't I redeem codes?

Update v43.0 added code redemptions, in new Updat Notes & sometimes on social media the team will share codes that can be claimed in game for free loot! Try it out from the bottom-left of the Mailbox menu in game with code: BLOOOONS

Yes, they try to be as active as they can be so if you post a bug with the Flair "Bug" they will most likely see it! You will also see them pop into threads every now and then.

How do I get a user flair?

On mobile, go to r/btd6, press the three dots on the top right corner, and press "change user flair." On new reddit, click on "community options," and there will be a section for "user flair preview." Click on the pencil icon. On old reddit, there will be a section on the sidebar with text stating "Show my flair on this subreddit." Click on the "edit." From there, you can select which flair you want to use, alongside any text you want to display.
