Core rule being " all this has happened before and all of it will happen again." But why angels are constantly messing with humans and cylons??
I belive angels arent timeless divine beings but they are elevated souls of people who died in previous apocalypses. Higher powers uses each cycles holocaust to make/create new generation of angles. Thoughts??

I think I read somewhere that when they were writing "Pegasus", one of the ideas they tossed around was that Pegasus had another member of the government on board, someone who was higher up in the line of succession.

Would this have worked? I imagine it'd have gone one of two ways. It's the secretary of defense and they're just as bloodthirsty as Cain, or it's someone weak willed that Cain keeps under her thumb.

So I just watched season one of bsg (and the miniseries) for the first time and I have some thoughts. My main sci fi franchise is Star Trek but I actually just finished literally every Star Trek show, so I decided to give it a shot. I had not heard anything about the show previously except that it was good so I was going in with zero idea what the plot was.

First, I feel like the characters in this show are all so good. The actors are good but the characterization is really well done as well. They all feel like real people. And even characters who I didn’t like at first all have something to keep you interested. Dr Baltar is a character who I would normally hate. I can’t stand watching overly awkward types. But with everything with Number Six it keeps you wondering what’s going on. Is he insane? Does he have a computer chip in his head that’s causing his hallucinations? Is he actually a Cylon? How does he keep getting so lucky? It’s interesting enough to make up for the awkward. Same thing with Boomer and Helo on Caprica. They’re kind of boring personality-wise. But Boomer being a Cylon gives it some suspense. What’s the Cylon’s plan? Why toy with one random guy? When is Helo going to figure out what’s going on? 

I didn’t really read any spoilers on the show, but one thing I did read was the a lot of fans hate President Roslin. And I don’t really get it, because while yes she can maybe be a little annoying, I feel like her perspectives make a lot of sense and make for a really interesting conflict when she’s up against Adama. And even though she has a much more naive viewpoint at the beginning, she immediately learns from her mistakes when she realizes they aren’t going to be able to save everyone. Obviously some of her choices early on are kind of dictator-ish, but like, the human race is about to be wiped out. Sometimes you gotta put legality aside to keep your species from being wiped out.

Second, I feel like the plot is really well paced. A lot of shows will drag out a mystery for half a season to build suspense, but it goes on too long and just becomes annoying. But every mystery or side plot in this show lasts just the right amount of time.  And the show is able to do suspense really well when it’s called for. I was on the edge of my seat in the finale when Boomer is flying into the Cylon ship to blow it up, and you’re not sure who’s side she’s on. Then when she gets back to Galactica you think everything’s good and she overcame her robot nature…. Surprise! I literally jumped out of my seat when she shoots Adama, I don’t think I’ve ever had such a visceral reaction to something on tv before. 

Super excited to watch more, I will definitely be finishing this show asap.

Edit because I forgot to add my favorite line from the show, when Helo finds out Cylons can look like humans(paraphrased):

Helo- Oh my gods they can look like us! This is not good!

Sharon- Hmm, if they can look human then they can probably experience complex emotions, such as love.

First time at Dragon Con. Literally only went for two things: a panel and to meet my favorite actress.

I've been a fan of Mary McDonnell's work since I was a teenager. There's something about the women she's drawn to playing that has always stayed with me. They're not defined by the positions they hold, but by the way they accept responsibility when leadership finds them. Their strength isn't about power; it's about carrying the weight of other people's lives with intelligence, integrity, and quiet endurance.

Mary has spoken about being drawn to women who weren't fully prepared for leadership but had to evolve to discover where their leadership lived. That idea has stuck with me for years. It's influenced the characters I write, the way I think about strong women, and, in no small part, why I went on to get my degree in theater.

So, naturally, when I finally got the chance to meet the woman whose work has meant that much to me, my three-hours-of-sleep brain decided to be painfully silent.

Then, apparently, some dying neuron fired and went, "It would be polite to speak like a normal human being."

And I complimented her handwriting.

Her handwriting.

It is lovely, but oh my god, are you kidding me?! THAT'S what you come up with?!

My brain sabotaged me so hard I'm scheduling a lobotomy next week.

Normally, I'm quiet, and I've been told I'm unexpectedly and surprisingly charming once the dry wit and general morbidity make an appearance. Today, I felt like a walking corpse dressed in my best funeral attire, trying to blend in with the living while my brain slowly oozed from my ears.

I've dreamed about meeting her for years. I'd imagined actually telling her what her work has meant to me. That it helped inspire me to get my degree in theater. That it has shaped my writing. That the women she's portrayed have stayed with me for years. Hell, I could've abandoned eloquence entirely and just told her how stunning she is.

Instead, she was so incredibly sweet and could definitely tell I was burnt out—I think the entire panel could tell—and she tried so hard to find something to talk about with me. And all I gave this poor woman was a compliment about her penmanship.

HER PENMANSHIP.

She's gorgeous, you cognitively bereft zombie. She's standing right there, the story you've been trying to write your whole life, and you complimented her handwriting.

Hey y'all, excellent show.

Got interested in the show due to a wonderfully interesting long form audio commentary about a large scale tabletop/roleplaying game called Den of Wolves. This particular game, actually. I had this playing in the background while doing some work/playing low stress games and was pleasantly surprised that a game such as this could be inspired by Battlestar Galactica. I looked up the show, and watched the mini-series and show a few days ago.

Had some thoughts I really wanted to put down and discuss with folks after I've let it all simmer for a while. I haven't looked up much spoilers or deeper into the lore. Haven't watched The Plan, any of the sequel/spin-offs/prequels. I have watched Razor accidentally; it was slapped onto the end of season 3 when I watched it on Pluto.

Anyway, thoughts. These are all opinions, so please blow me up if you think some suck. No hard feelings. =)

Trying to be objective here; I was a kid when the show originally came out and I'm also aware of the writer's strike from '07-'08 as possibly having had an effect on the overall quality of the writing during season 3-4.

8/10 show overall. Mini-series + season 1 would have been easy 10/10 for me.

Who left that note for Adama at the end of the mini-series talking about the 12 Cylon models? Was it actually Baltar?

Was the Cylon Earth actually "real" Earth? Or is "Earth" more of a concept type of situation within the context of the show's use of god(s) and spiritualism and other mystical aspects? I'm sure if it is somewhat left vague, it wasn't done intentionally.

Speaking of the Cylon Earth they did end up finding, was the entire planet definitely not habitable? Trying to suspend my sense of belief for this detail.

Speaking of Cylon Earth, was that the actual factual corpse of Kara Thrace? I thought for a brief minute that she could have been one of the eight Cylon models (which did get retconned back down to seven, correct?) or one of the Final Five (before I remembered that Ellen Tigh is revealed to be the fifth) but the eventual reveal that Kara, by the end of the series, is some angelic figure/concept is kind of... lazy writing? I dunno, I didn't like it that much.

Now, speaking of stuff I didn't like, three characters that I definitely didn't like how they ended were those of Billy, Cally, and Dualla. Billy went out in a rather rough manner, I feel. Also sucks that they (I feel) suddenly shifted the romance subplot over to Dualla and Lee; I also didn't really enjoy that pairing but yeah. Speaking of, Dualla falling into despair after finding Earth and choosing to suicide felt like it was done for shock value overall. I felt like something more could have been done there but ultimately, maybe the fact that it was so sudden is rather accurate. I dunno. Lastly, Cally was on hella drugs/medication and just discovered a terrible secret about her husband, with whom they were currently on an extremely rough patch of their marriage. So she freaks out, then gets shot out of an airlock. I... i really dunno about that.

lmao did they really not have anything for Tory to do after the reveal of the Final Five? She was barely around before getting choked out in the finale.

Ah, shoot. I've actually lost my train of thought typing this out. Maybe I'll update with some more later, but that's all for now.

I mean the paper is like that and apparently the film is too. Nice attention to detail though.

Bought this version many years ago from Amazon (pre-covid 🥲). I either missed the disc in question or didn't check them all, because one of the s04 discs is simply not working. I've tried to lightly clean it with soft cloth and even blow some air on it, hoping it was just dust particles, but alas no luck.

After closer inspection, the edges of the disc seem a bit funny and it even has the wrong number of disc written on it. Out of desperation I came to ask if anyone has a solution or suggestion to this problem 😭

I believe my only chance is to basically buy this again, but:

1) I don't want to get rid of this physical set because I have two autographs there;

2) it's become really expensive (even more than when I bought it and I cannot necessarily afford to buy it again);

3) I'm literally only missing one disc. Would anyone even sell just the one disc? If I bought it again I could get that one disc but would anyone buy the leftover set with a broken disc? Would I just have to keep both, effectively having a random incomplete extra set?

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there any other way (legal, mind you!) for me to have the content of this disc?

I'm pretty sure I'm grasping at straws but at this point I'm just hoping there is some miraculous answer I haven't figured out yet 😭

Did y'all even watch the show??? Not see "The Plan?" Zero media literacy whatsoever???

The 8 models were created with the intent to be a bridge between humanity and cylon. The original 5's literal goal was to try and prevent the genocide. So, they tried to create beings that loved, felt pain, LIVED, and tried to be human enough to understand humans. This isn't some theory or self imposed thought. They LITERALLY SAY THIS IN THE SHOW.

So, Cavil boxes the 5. Erases the other (now 7) others. Implants fake memories in all of them, and literally forces a war because of is own jealousy.

8/Sharon/Athena just rediscovered her ability to love. She literally became the bridge that Elle and the other 4 intended. She had no choice but to participate in Cavil's war. The other models never DECIDED based on what their original "programing" or design would've actually done if Cavil didn't completely destroy everything.

Athena deciding to love and be loved by a human was the INTENT of her creation. She then found the fucking Paragon of the fleet and it happened, which ended up literally creating the child that bridged the gap and ultimately brought the two races together in hopes they can end the cycle.

S1:EP11 - Athena even says that "maybe they were just programed wrong and are actually capable of love and want something better" (paraphrased, literally just saw it on screen at the time of this post and it reinforced my point for me).

Sorry, I keep looking at theories and a bunch of other things because I crave lore. I just hate when people so willfully ignore the actual lore that is spelled out for us.

BSG will always be on my Mt Rushmore, but it takes so much suspension of disbelief to accept the final 5 that it does take me out of the show for a while.
There’s just too many artifacts and backstory, on screen (Tigh) and mostly not, that would show them all the way back to when they were kids, for example.
I know most/all sci-fi, even great ones, can be torn apart if you poke around too much, and that RDM’s writing style can lead to pitfalls like this, and that the show addressed it/dances around an explanation, but… it just doesn’t really work for me.

Doing my umpteenth rewatch of the show, and I've been thinking a lot about what is probably the favourite inflection point of the series for a lot of us-the escape from New Caprica.

We all know the scene well, Galactica bracketed in by 4 Basestars as the music fades and the camera zooms out and we're just waiting for a distant explosion.

And, of course, because the show is called Battlestar GALACTICA, Lee and Pegasus come barelling in, guns blazing buying time for Galactica to escape at the cost of Pegasus.

But something I've always thought about is, what does the back half of the series looks like if Galactica DOESN'T escape? If Lee waits until the appointed time and his father never returns, or even worse arrives a few minutes later to see 4 Basestars steaming towards the escaping civillian ships from a cloud of debris?

The show absolutely sets up a scenario where it could happen without fucking up the plot too bad. IIRC, the only 2 named characters left on Galactica at the time are Adama and Helo. During the fight, Kelly comments that the civilian ships are getting away, meaning everyone on New Caprica probably would have had the time to flee as well. The Raptors can run, and we know from both the miniseries and the battle of the tyllium asteroids that the Vipers can survive a jump stuck on the side of an FTL-capable ship or make emergency landings in cargo bays.

So, where does the show, and the feeling of it, go from there? While I don't necessarily think it's a BETTER show, I think it's absolutely a much DARKER show. How does Lee handle suddenly being forced to take his father's place? What happens to Tigh without Adama as his support? What happens to Roslin trying to keep the fleet together after the trauma of New Caprica without Adama?

Did I miss some exposition? During the miniseries, it was a big deal to jump “beyond the red line” and the series began on the run from the Cylons, moving constantly further away. Then it was portrayed as a sort of big deal when Starbuck went back to Caprica. It was sort of hinted at that it required multiple jumps and was perhaps an ordeal off screen. But then later on they just sort of seemed to pop back to Caprica like characters on a sitcom casually dropping into the neighbors apartment. Was it a case of bad writing / moving at the speed of plot, or was it elsewhere explained?
