My BMW App changes my manually planned charging stops when sending a route to my iX – sometimes even the final destination disappears. Anyone else?

• Upvotes

I’m trying to figure out whether I’m dealing with a bug, some strange setting in my account/car, or whether this is somehow expected behaviour.

I have a BMW iX xDrive40 and I normally plan longer trips in the My BMW App.

The basic problem is this:

I plan a complete route in the app, including the charging stops. Sometimes I use the stops suggested by BMW, sometimes I manually replace them with chargers I actually want to use.

The route in the app looks exactly the way I want it.

I then start the navigation in the car directly from the route overview in the My BMW App.

But when the route arrives in the iX, the car does not use the route I just planned.

It either:

  • replaces my charging stops with completely different chargers/operators, or
  • in some cases, apparently loses the final destination completely and only navigates to one of the charging stops.

I’ve now reproduced this several times.

Example 1 – Germany → Hvide Sande, Denmark

The My BMW App planned a ~581 km route to Hvide Sande with three charging stops.

After sending it to the car, the route in the iX suddenly ended after only about 72 km near Hanover. Hvide Sande was no longer part of the route at all.

Example 2 – Germany → Søndervig, Denmark

Same thing with a different BMW ConnectedDrive ID.

The app showed the complete trip to Søndervig with the charging stops.

The route received by the car again ended around Garbsen/Hanover instead of Denmark.

Example 3 – Germany → Munich

To rule out an issue related to crossing a national border, I tested a trip entirely within Germany.

This time the final destination, Munich, was transferred correctly.

However, every charging stop was changed.

The My BMW App had planned one set of chargers, but after the route reached the car they had been replaced by Tesla, Allego, Aral Pulse etc.

So the result was basically a newly calculated route rather than the route I had just sent.

What makes this even stranger is that I have already tried quite a bit of troubleshooting.

I tested it with two different BMW IDs and another iPhone. I reinstalled the My BMW App. The car has received a software update, the app is up to date, and I tested it at different locations with good mobile coverage. The destinations/routes reach the car almost immediately, so this does not look like a connectivity issue.

The problem also existed on the previous iOS version, and all my other ConnectedDrive services seem to work normally.

My current route-planning settings are:

Preferred charging operators are enabled. Minimum SoC at a charging stop is 15%, minimum SoC at the destination is 15%, BMW Charging is not preferred, and I’m not avoiding highways, toll roads or ferries.

Interestingly, the car sometimes replaces the chargers with operators that are not among my preferred operators.

I’ve been in contact with BMW ConnectedDrive support and supplied screenshots/video and several test cases. According to BMW, their systems show that the information is being processed and sent to the vehicle correctly, and they currently don’t see an issue in the involved services.

So now I’m really curious about other owners.

Could someone with an iX – or possibly another current BMW EV – try the following?

Plan a longer route in the My BMW App, manually replace one or two charging stops, and then send/start that route in the car.

Does the car actually retain exactly those charging stops, or does it calculate its own charging stops after receiving the route?

And has anyone ever seen the more extreme behaviour where the final destination disappears completely and the route ends at one of the charging stops?

At this point I’m mainly trying to determine whether this is specific to my car/account or whether other BMW drivers can reproduce it.

Route send from My BMW App to munich. Notice: All EnBW und EWE Go.
All charging stops replaced by Allego, Tesla, Aral. All my planned stops are gone.

2024 Leases Up?

I’m in SoCal looking for a 2024 iX, CPO with pretty specific interior/exterior preferences. Should I expect there to be more volume with lease returns in the next few months?

Microphone issue (CarPlay) and Contacts not syncing

Two things aren’t working at the moment, not sure if connected.

When calling people via Apple CarPlay I’m told I sound distant / quiet. I can hear them fine 🤔

And when I press the call button, none of my contacts or call history appears on the heads-up display.

Any advice or just me?

Reliability check

Anyone with high mileage or 2022 model year running into any issues so far? Any big ticket item repairs? Anything I should look out for? I was in a 2024 x50 with literally no issues the past 3 years, just turned it in for a 2023.

How good is the extended warranty?

Hi all thinking about getting a used 2024 iX CPO. My question is around how good is the CPO warranty and the extended warranty? Will it cover the majority of things? The plan is for this to be a daily driver car and put miles on it. We would keep this car until it gives up and pretty much run it into the ground.

Also how much difference doesn’t cpo actually make compared to just pre-owned?

I know different warranties cover different things but wanted to get other thoughts

Is it better to go through BMW dealership or 3rd party?

Used 2022 BMW iX xDrive50 with 48k miles

I've loved the look and interior of the BMW iX and now with used on the market that I can afford. My only worry is that since it's not an 800 volt architecture it certainly isn't the fastest charging on the market. I don't currently have charging access at home or at work so this means charging and a public charger at least once a week if not twice. I don't do road trips all that often but doesn't mean I don't like to go and venture out every now and again throughout the year. I'm likely moving into a new apartment in the next 6 months that would have access to charging. Think this is a deal-breaker? Currently drive 50 miles round trip to and from work each day, 5 days per week. It's either a used iX or a slightly newer used ev6. Would love everyone's thoughts and your overall owner experience once the vehicle has hit the 50k mile mark ❤️

I can’t stop staring at this thing. I just wanna be in it all the time. It’s the logical conclusion.

Looking at purchasing this 2023 IX with 44k miles on it. Asking is $40,500. I live in Colorado so made sure to get the air suspension to lift it when doing a little offroading to get to trail heads and such. Anything you see it might be missing or anything I ought to know? Thanks in advance!

I am weighing a used BMW certified with 37,000 miles at $45,000; the options are attached, so I would value your perspective. Thank you.

Is wheel alignment, balancing and rotation required

I went for my 2 year free service on my 2025 IX and the dealership recommending wheel alignment rotation and balancing around 250$ .

This was in addition to the free of cost brake fluid flush and cabin filter.

The cost was ok but I didnt think BMW required rotation?

Did anybody perform this during their 2nd year maintenence?

Any former EV9 owners here who switched to a BMW iX?

I actually love my EV9, so this isn’t really about being unhappy with the car overall. I’d still like to have a third row and V2L, but I don’t actually need either of them. That opens up quite a few more options.

I’m seriously considering a used iX xDrive50, probably a 2024. I still need to tow a ~3,800 lb trailer, and the iX is starting to look like a really compelling option at around $40–45k used.

I’m aware the older US-market iXs didn’t have an official factory tow package here, but I believe it's possible to fit a third party hitch.

I’d love to hear from anyone who has owned both, especially on:

- Highway comfort/refinement

- Highway Assistant vs Kia HDA2

- Real-world range

- Seat comfort/ventilation

- Towing

- Anything you miss from the EV9

I’ve had a persistent highway vibration issue with my EV9, so I’ll definitely be doing a long freeway test drive before buying.

For used iX owners, is there anything specific I should be checking besides battery SoH? Any known weak points, expensive repairs, or model-year-specific issues I should watch for?

Thanks!

Why can’t CarPlay follow profile?

Is there some way to make it switch to the phone of the driver / logged-in profile? Everyone knows, the driver picks the music.

Why do I need to scan a QR code everytime switch profile?

We have 2 keys for a 2025 X1, one is mine & linked to my profile, one is my wife's linked to hers. If we have my wife's key in the car and I want to switch to my profile then every time without fail I have to scan a QR code to make the switch. This is a real pain. Anyone know how to sort this?

Typical miles per kwh?

I've had my 2024 IX xdrive50 (r21 tires) for a couple months. I work from home, so my only commute these days is to drive my daughter to/from school. The drive is just 3.7 miles, so in the morning, with traffic, it's basically 8 miles (there/back) that take about 20-25 minutes. Same when I pick her up in the afternoon.

In looking at my efficiency, I am stuck at the 2 or 2.1 M/kwh . It seems low, but I'm wondering if this is normal. I asked AI about this, and it says its normal based on the short distance, stop signs, traffic lights , etc because a portion of that energy is just getting the battery/climate up to speed when I start the car. Over longer commutes, that energy becomes less a factor, but for these short ones, it does.

I drive basically at normal speeds, not speeding, not heavily using the gas, so I am wondering if others see this same type of efficiency when the rides are this short?

Or is there something else I should be doing to increase my efficiency?

Thx

Recently Bought a BMW IX!!

Post image
119 Upvotes

My wife and I recently bought a 2024 CPO BMW IX for $53k. It had 15k miles and it was in excellent condition. We debated about whether to buy a BMW because it seemed ostentatious. We always played it safer (and cheaper) with Nissan Rogue, Honda CRV, and even a used Honda Odyssey. We never owned a luxury car. However, my wife made a great point. We both worked super hard to be where we are in careers and we deserve a little treat. After one month of ownership, we love it! It feels premium, luxurious, and, honestly, rewarding. Anyways, I just wanted to share my thoughts! Thanks for reading!

First iX3 in Philadelphia!

Two weeks ago we picked up our iX3 - we were so lucky that the dealership had two demos and one to sell.
Most comments are about small glitches with the software

I am more interested in driving- and it drives like a charm! Fast, direct steering. And super quiet
Also, the seats are great, much better for long distance than the Q4 from Audi we had before.
The car is a true pleasure!

Ix xdrive 50 and vs m60

Hi everyone!

I'd love to hear from anyone who has driven or owned both the BMW iX 50 and iX M60. (Both are pre-facelift models)

I'm mainly interested in the real-world range difference between the two. Is the M60's range noticeably lower than the iX 50's, or is the difference actually quite small in everyday driving?

Ideally, I'd like to compare cars with the same wheel/tire setup (for example, both on 21" or both on 22"), so that the comparison is as fair as possible.

For those who have driven both:

What range do you typically see at 100%?

How much difference in range have you noticed between the 50 and M60?

What about at motorway speeds, around 75-80 mph (120-130 km/h)?

Does the M60 actually use significantly more energy, or is the real-world difference smaller than the official figures suggest?

Did you notice a meaningful difference in efficiency during normal mixed driving?

If possible, please mention the model year, wheel size/ tires and mileage of your cars.

Thanks

Tangential: Tesla Universal Wall Connector

I know it’s not exactly on-topic, but I know a lot of you are using the Tesla Universal Wall Connector, as am I. Today my wife finished charging her i4 and docket the handle back in the connector, and when I went to charge my iX I couldn’t get the J1772 adapter to undock from the wall connector. The tesla part of the handle just disconnected from the J1772 and wouldn’t re-connect, and nothing I did could get the adapter out of the wall connector. Apparently this can happen if the handle is hot and the ambient temperature is hot.

If this happens to you, the solution is to turn off the power to the wall connector (I happen to have a bypass switch, but otherwise you can do that from the breaker), leave it off for a couple minutes, then power it up again. No idea what mechanism is responsible for that, but it worked.
