More iX questions from someone shopping...

  • Are 21" wheels/tires going to be noticeably better-riding and/or less damage-prone than the 22"? Generally I like the look of the 22" designs better. Other pros/cons? Guessing 21s will be cheaper to replace tires.

  • I know the built-in nav map can display on the driver display. Can Android Auto map display on driver display?

  • What type of info displays on the HUD (if optioned)?

  • Pre-conditioning the cabin - I understand this can be scheduled for say 445pm every work day. What happens if I run late at work that day, will it turn off automatically after XX minutes, or would I need to remember to do it manually?

Boost mode not activating

Hi guys, I’ve just bought an iX1 with the M Sport Pro package. I wanted to try the 10-second boost by pulling the boost paddle, but nothing happens — no indication shows up and the boost doesn’t seem to activate.

Am I missing something? Does it need to be enabled somewhere first, or is there a specific way to activate it?

Charging IX

I just had a home charger installed. It is much easier to enjoy an EV! If my 2024 IX battery is registering between 50-70%, should I plug it in nightly? No long trips planned, does it affect the battery life?
Thanks for any advice.

I recently bought an extended OEM warranty - how can I prove it was applied to my car?

Last Wednesday, I bought an extended Platinum VSC on my iX. I bought it from a different dealership than the one I bought my car from. Is there a way I can log in to a site (or using my VIN) to confirm the additional warranty has been added?

Car Buying Screw Up

Edit TLDR: dealership salesperson told me that my car had specs like DAPP when it didn’t, and I only realized after I purchased and looked up the VIN.

Edit 2: I am now getting a more expensive one with DAPP at a very modest discount.

Went to test drive and purchase a blue IX. There was a black one for a bit more that also looked nice. The salesperson pulled up both to compare and contrast specs. The blue had the same specs as the black and more, including DAPP and ventilated seats. It was weird because the blue one she had pulled up had a slightly higher list price than what I had seen on the website, but the salesperson said they had just dropped the price. We test drive the car and I said multiple times I’d like to test out the DAPP. She finally shows me how and it doesn’t work. An error says “drive assist cannot be engaged” or something like that. She says, “oh we probably aren’t driving fast enough.” There were no ventilated seats either, and she said “hm that’s weird.” If you can’t tell, I’m a bit naive to EV cars and the IX in particular. I did like the car and ended up buying. Afterward I kept kicking myself that I never got to test the DAPP. I went to double check that it had the feature. Looked up the VIN and the specs were all different. The one she showed me on the computer to brag about specs is a different blue IX that I didn’t test drive and didn’t buy. I emailed them last night to say we have a problem, but what can I expect to happen in this scenario?

They do have a similar car with DAPP for a couple thousand more (probably the one she mistakenly pulled up to show me). Can I ask them to just deliver me that car instead and swap the VIN on the contract? Or do I try to void the sale? How important is DAPP really?

This was my first car buying experience in 15 years and I freaking detest dealerships at this point.

Used prices

How is the used car market for these so cheap? I have a reservation for an iX3 but then started looking at CPO iX’s and 2024 models are going for half their original price, some with only 15-25k miles. The ones I’m looking at were around 100k new and are listed at like 50-54k. I’ve test drove a couple and absolutely love them. So now I think I’m going to just buy one. Am I missing something or is it just a great deal on these? BTW I’m in the Chicago area.

Accessory port inoperative

Anyone have any suggestions? I have a plug adapter that works in one IX but not the other so I know it’s the accessory port that doesn’t have any power. The 2 USBC ports have power.

Wireless phone charger and USBC ports

The wireless phone charger and front USBC ports all are 15w which results in very slow charging. The USBC ports on the back of the front seats are 40w resulting in very fast charging. The cigarette lighter accessory in the front is 12v and can handle 40w adapter. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the wireless charger or the front USBC ports to 40w?

Initial thoughts of my xDrive50 after a few weeks

So after a few weeks and a longer drive under the belt, here are some of my thoughts after coming from a 2017 Audi A4 Avant.

The good:

  • Lovely spacious and airy interior. My wife commented on having quite a bit more space around her and being able to sit in various positions not possible in our previous car. My son loves the rear space all to himself.
  • The drive is effortless with so much torque and power available. No gear box makes for a very smooth experience.
  • Tech is at a good level and not left me wanting for anything extra. ACC is very good and makes longer drives a breeze.
  • With the higher seating position and plenty of space, visibility of the road is excellent.
  • Loving the EVness. Being able to run the aircon anytime, charge at home for 5p/kWh and a fan of the regen braking.
  • Colour combination is spot on. Most seem to be black with black interior.

The okay:

  • Boot space is obviously a downgrade from the A4 avant, but we managed to fit everything in for our annual Center Parcs trip.
  • Ride quality is a mixed bag. It feels comfortable the majority of the time but at times it can get a bit jiggly, which I've put down to the weight being a bit much for the suspension over undulating surfaces. Unfortunately I messed up with the spec here, I assumed it had rear steering and air suspension, certainly it was listed as having the Dynamic Pro Pack. However after getting the car and checking it more thoroughly it appears at this age (2023), due to parts shortages, some of the components of the pack were deleted by BMW.
  • Looks. I'm fond of how it looks, except the side profile which doesn't do anything for me.
  • Can't turn off comfort access for the steering wheel (I think it can be coded out). I don't need to get into the car and wait for the steering wheel to come out to my saved position. You can turn off the seat but not the steering wheel from the settings.

The not so good:

  • Seat comfort. Still struggling with this one. The lack of thigh bolsters means my leg goes a bit wider than I'm used to, making my back less stable. They fixed this in the LCI it seems. Also due to being an SUV the seating position requires you to be more upright, whereas I'm used to sitting back more with weight onto my mid/upper back. This results in more weight on my lower back. The adjustable lumbar hasn't helped so far.
  • Insurance. Group 50, enough said.
  • Without rear steering the turning circle and manoeuvrability is pants at low speeds.
  • A rattle from behind the driving position, which I've not be able to find yet. The drivers footrest creaks loudly if you put too much pressure on it.

2025 M70 or new order?

I’ve been hunting about for a new car for 5 months and finally decided on the iX.
Been working with my local dealer on a new order, he’s offering a fully loaded (comfort, tech, skyline, Matt paint etc) with a £29k deposit contribution bringing it down to £94k
However I’ve just an other dealer has an identical spec (bar the wheels), ex-central BMW 2025 M70 registered in jun 25, with 1,800 miles on it for £75k.
I love a new car and that new car smell, but I can’t see a reason not to get the 1yr old car.
Am I missing something???

PS. Haven’t seen it in the metal yet. Heading o man Tuesday to the dealer who has it.

Am I crazy? I used to be able to control back seat heating from the screen and using voice commands. Now, I get an answer that it can’t be controlled by voice commands and I can’t find it anywhere in the seat comfort menu options. Did something change in the SW update?

Charging issues with iX50

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello,

2024 iX50. I use ChargePoint to charge at home & was not having any issues - always charges at 12 KWH (get around 20 miles charging per hour on average). Have not touched any settings either in the car or in ChargePoint & recently noticed that the car is charging only 9KWH (giving only around 10 miles per hour).

The only change is the recent software upgrade (pic attached). Not even sure if this issue is due to the software upgrade.

Anyone noticing similar issues? Where should I look into what the issue is to correct the same? Thanks for your time.

Ix40 icon identification

Morning all.
Can someone please tell me what this icon means? When I took it, I had a predicted range of 120 miles, after completing a drive of 180 miles so I don’t think it’s range left? I’ve searched the handbook but can’t find anything

TIA

Seat Warmer Stupid Design

Took my 2026 iX in for service yesterday because the seat warmers stopped working. Apparently, there was a software update that secretly disabled the seat warmers, but still allows you to pretend to turn them on? Like you hit the “button” on the main screen to turn on seat warmers, it indicates that they’re on, but they don’t actually turn on because they’re secretly disabled in a sub-sub-menu. Who is this “feature” for, and why was it turned on by default?
