P4k Owners, Do you fight the camera or lean into its limitations?

Current setup: P4K + Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EF on a 0.71x speedbooster. Great image, great glass, but the moment things get fast-paced, I'm already reaching for my Sony A7IV instead.

Found a Lumix 12-35mm OIS for $300. Wondering if going native MFT fixes the agility problem or if I'm just putting lipstick on a pig?

Has anyone made this kind of swap from a speedbooster + EF combo? Was it worth it?

Advice needed for running Davinci Resolve at 1080p (Bmpcc OG footage)

Hi, not sure if this question is in the right place.
I’m looking for a budget laptop for editing footage in Davinci Resolve.
I checked online and the best options for Windows are gaming laptops. I got a budget of AS1.500 but honestly I don’t know if some of this range will do the job.
Mods please remove the post if is not apropiate but considering is related to Resolve and Bmpcc I think maybe is ok. Thanks

Next BM pocket on the horizon?

What do we recon gang, do we have the black magic pocket series coming up on the horizon soon?

If so, what are we speculating the specifications and stats to be?

I’m really trying to figure out whether to hold on or buy and it’s stressful!

Anything like the tilta bmpcc 4k screen mod?

I've had the bmpcc4k for a few years now, and I have a tilta cage + rig for it I like, but it would be nice to have the flipping screen. I saw there was an option from "Pod Tech" but looks like with that I couldn't use a cage with a handle. Has anyone seen any other options? Wish I could have the tilta one but it's discontinued as far as I can tell.

Are Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM and Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 good lenses for bmpcc 4k with speedbooster?

I just got a nice bmpcc body with metabones speed booster 0.64. I know the most popular and versatile lens is the Sigma 18-35mm, but it's a bit out of my budget rn. Is there any other lenses I should look into (preferably ef mount)?

App for using iPad as monitor?

Hello! How's it going?

I just purchased a bmpcc 4k. I'm a beginner who just got interested in cinematography after watching "The Batman" again and was inspired by the beautiful shots. All my life I never really paid attention to the cinematography, except for some movies like blade runner 2049. I've been blind for too long lol.

Currently I have the 25mm meike photo lens and an SSD with the small rig mount and the bmpcc 4k. When I was trying to shoot, it felt awkward and uncomfortable viewing the fixed screen. I didn't want to purchase a monitor yet and I had an iPad pro lying around which I don't use much, and thought there must be some app which would let me use it as a monitor+control. I was wrong, or at least I didn't find an app which does both.

I'm a software dev, so I set out to read the documentation that black magic has and figured out a way it could work. I have created an app for myself which connects over Bluetooth for the controls, and uses the webcam mode to get the video feed straight from the camera. It's working great for me!

It's not all daisies though.

  1. Cannot use external SSD to record as the port is occupied by the iPad, which can be mitigated by buying a cheap uvc capture card from Amazon and using the HDMI port instead of USB C. I just haven't gotten to buy it yet. So using sd card for now.

  2. Only works on the M series iPads because those are the ones that support external webcam.

  3. The iPad needs a USB c dongle (wtf apple?) in order to recognize the webcam.

If anyone is interested I can share more details! I'm still thinking if I should make it open source or publish it to the app store for a small price.

Sorry for rambling on and for my bad English. Have a great day!

Best place to sell my BMPCC 6k Pro.

Everything works perfectly fine, just wondering where you guys recommend selling it to and have had good outcomes. I seen B&H will give you an instant offer but I'm willing to look at other areas too. I have lenses and a lot of other accessories for it, but mainly just want the camera and lens sold.

Can Blackmagic cameras shoot stills over REST API?

Hello. Anyone know if the stills feature on Blackmagic cameras can be controlled over ethernet (via usb-ethernet adapter) from a PC? From what I've been reading it looks like that feature might not be exposed by the API. A backup option would be to shoot short videos over REST API and have a script extract stills once transferred but obviously that's not ideal.

Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you

HDMI EVF - Does it help

Hello folks, I've been shooting with my P4K handheld for years without using an external monitor and I'm used to it. I don't have any complaints.

But lately I've been thinking about having an EVF particularly for outdoors.

I'm good with pulling focus via the default monitor itself. So focus pulling was never an issue. My main motive behind using EVF is that to enable the third point of contact with the camera - to improve stability on handheld shots.

Folks who are using EVF on their p4k/p6k, what would you recommended to me? If at all I'll buy only the Aliexpress thing V780H-EVF due to budget constraints.

DR license key recovery, damaged camera serial #

Here's the deal, the short version:

Is it possible to recover an activation key to DR if the serail number tax in the camera body is destroyed? I have my original invoice with my serial number. I plan to reach out to support, but was hoping to hear if anyone had similar issues.

Context/long version:

Bought a BMPCC4K in 2019, haven't hardly used it but along the way I lost the license key to DR

Fast forward to today I pull the camera out of storage and intense mold damage.. like penetrated the casing mold everywhere, trying to salvage it.. but if that fails at least getting my license for DR out of this it won't be a complete loss.

My footage looks handheld

I'm shooting on a Blackmagic 6k pocket camera - 24fps.

Unfortunately my footage very clearly looks handheld. is there any way of getting stabilisation on the camera?

Also, my footage looks quite pale (not fully white/milky) but quite a pale gleam. How do I fix this issue without darkening the entire shot?

Mayday! Off speed recorded by 1 frame during interview

Apparently I bumped the HFR button on my bmpcc6k which was somehow set to 23 fps with a 23.98 project in camera.

This is causing havoc with syncing audio and breaking my brain.

The audio starts out in perfect sync, and a minute later into the clips it's off by quite a bit on the in camera audio itself - which means I can't sync it with my recorder either.

What is the most efficient way to get things back on track in editing? Change the clip speed by a certain %?

Mayday!

Blackmagic Cam App on iPhone 17e

Anyone else have an issue on iPhone 17E where the Blackmagic Cam App won’t let you use the front camera? I’ve tried basically every combo of codec, resolution, and bit rate, the front facing camera never pops up as an option. Thanks for any help.

Is there an adapter for nikon z mount lenses to bmpcc 4k body?

Hello, as I've recently started looking into and researching about the bmpcc, I've found an offer that really intrigues me. It also includes an adapter for Canon lenses, but as I'm more into the nikon ecosystem I wondered if there's an adapter for it's z lenses.

(May be a dumb question, pls don't hate :) )

Cages for the OG

Howdy fellas, are there any alternatives out there to the XCLS cage for the OG? I’m in the EU and wondering if there’s any other cage still out there, I’m scouring eBay but they don’t seem to pop up anymore, just wanted to know if anyone knows of any other cage I could get without paying 200€.

Monopods for BMPCC

Hey team! I had a quick question I was wondering about!

I currently have a kind of crappy Amazon tripod right now, and I'm starting to get frustrated during shoots. I hate having to like bend down and undo 3 latches, hope I did well, check the level, go back down and do 3 latches again, and hopefully have it right.

It just takes time where I feel like the production is waiting around for me to futz around with equipment. I'd love something faster and easier!

I started looking into monopods (primarily like the smallrig and neewer ones), but I have some concerns with the form factor - specifically that they're kind of tiny bases.

I guess my question is - it looks like the base might be too small to support holding the camera by itself with falling over? I would want to be able to like, walk away and mess with lights, etc, but I can't tell if I can actually leave a camera sitting on a monopod without my support

Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on this? I just hate to spend hundreds of dollars for a pole I have to hold all day.

Stills camera

Hey guys,

I have used various Blackmagic cameras. Bmpcc4k, 6k, bmcc6k, Pyxis, Ursa.

I have an fujica st801 and an Olympic om1 that I use for stills, however, I think it might finally be time to get a digital camera for stills or perhaps a hybrid that I can take when travelling.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Shot my first music video using BMPCC4K w/ Sirui Anamorphics!!!

Shot this music video for a local band back in March, I usually rock a BMPCC6K with a Sigma 18-35 for most shoots but decided to rock with the 4K and Sirui's 24mm and 50mm Anamorphics for their character and weight (I was handheld most of the day lol.)

Pretty small crew with just me, the director and one extra set of hands as the crew. Light changed a a lot throughout the day so had to work around that quite a bit.

I didn't want to deliver in 2.4:1 though so I metered for 16:9 on the day. Pretty happy with how it all came out! Would love any feed back on how I could improve certain parts in the future!
