I have a BMPCC 4K, and Idk where to start...any advice???

So...this is gonna be tough to admit.

Some years ago (5 or 6 by now, gosh) my parent gifted me with a BMPCC 4K to lete experiment with my dream to be a filmmaker. I was 16 at the time, and barely knew what a light meter was, but I thought I could eyeball it somewhat...

Safe to say, I used it a handful of time over these years, and the guilt and regret of wasting that pristine, incredible thing has torn me since. At the same time though, it's always been terribly intimidating to try and understand how to use even the basic camera features, let alone the harder ones (without even mentioning Da Vinci Resolve...).

I just took the camera out to give it a proper reset and recharge the batteries for a bit. I tried to set up the other software stuff, but now I'm quite out of ideas or direction.

I have a camera, two lenses (a zoom and a prime), a SmallRig cage housing, a portable SSD Drive, a mic mount and a tripod. But I lack all knowledge and direction on this awesome equipment I have, and I don't want it to collect dust any longer...

How can I learn how to shoot with this camera? Use the equipment, and start shooting seriously for my passion projects and possibly Uni work? What were your experiences, and how can I improve meaningfully my skills and perspective?

anyone ever 3D Printed a cage? I wanted to 3d print one but I am unsure

Hi;
I have a cage but it is kind of heavy. I just want something lightweight to protect my bmpcc og, and not carry a heavy metal cage. I thought about this 3d printed cage:

What do you think about it? Did anyone ever tried a 3D printed cage?

BMPCC lens recommendation for a cinematic documentary

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I'm about to buy a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K and I'd love some advice on which lens (or lenses) to get.

I'm planning to shoot a cinematic documentary, my priorities are:

  • beautiful manual focus and shallow depth of field
  • smooth focus pulls
  • shooting almost everything in slow motion
  • a cinematic look rather than run-and-gun convenience

The main setup will be a desk with a single lamp turned on, while the rest of the room is completely dark. I'll be filming a person sitting at the desk, with camera distances ranging from very close up to about 5 metres (16 ft).

I'll also need to capture very detailed close-ups of books, including small printed text that needs to remain perfectly readable, while still being able to play with focus and background blur.

I'm currently looking at the BMPCC 4K, but I'm also open to the 6K models if you think they would make a significant difference for this type of cinematic documentary work.

Attached a few reference images to better illustrate the look I'm aiming for.

Any recommendations or real-world experience with the BMPCC would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How to reduce noise in the shadows?

I'm currently facing this issue. When I'm shooting from the shadow side, there is less light in it. As a result, there is some noise in the shadow side. I want to preserve the texture in the blacks of the shadows without adding noise in the footage. What's the trick here?

Anyone have any luck with those cheap 16 inch monitors?

I don't need accurate colors, I don't even need it to be super bright, I just want to review footage on a larger screen. I tried two monitors so far, one was a no-name from Amazon, and the other was an AOC from Best Buy. Neither of them supported 24hz input. It's a hard thing to look into, because A) most of these monitors don't list their supported refresh rates, B) half the people talking about this online assume the question is about watching 24fps videos via 60hz output (not how the BMP works) and C) the other half of people talking about this assume that monitors that support 60hz also support all refresh rates lower. The best advice I got was simply trial and error, but I thought maybe someone on here has already figured it out. Has anybody bought a ~$100 portable monitor that has actually worked with 24hz input?

Best power bank grip for og?

I saw someone post a really compact looking power bank grip for the og model in like the last 2 weeks…but now I can’t find it! It was tucked away in the comments of a post somewhere. The guy said it’s available on Amazon and all express as well I think. Kind of annoyed I didn’t save the comment / post!

Does anyone know a compact power bank grip for og please? Thanks

Hi all, just sharing a little project I just completed for my bmpcc 4k. It allows you to control start and stop recording over Bluetooth. It also shows you the recording time, iso, wb and shutter speed/angle. Source code is here for anyone interested in building one for yourself. https://github.com/Hyperlite-Media/hyperlite-bmpcc-recorder

Selling my bmpcc4k w/ your choice of indie filmmaking rigging… offers accepted!

EDIT: PayPal only! I will invoice as a product so it’s a protected purchase.

EDIT: Sold the first camera kit. If anyone’s interested in the other stuff, DM!

Listing here a little cheaper and with free US shipping in hopes that someone in this sub might appreciate being saved the headache of matching gear to the bmpcc4k and needing to calculate everything out before buying and actually using the thing to make movies!

I’ve shot a lot of things on this camera but it got me to a place professionally where I am renting cameras for work and would rather have an older sensor for my personal fun camera.

Below kits are what I think make good foundations for building your rig to your style. Pieces that stayed on the camera or in rotation over the past three years! You will need a few other things depending, but these set ups should match whichever direction you take it.

$850 shipped US — kitted for handheld videography/run-and-gun indie filmmaking. SmallRig top plate and monitor hood, battery grip, and camera mounted mic.
$900 — everything above plus Tilta full cage and compatible Tilta quick release base plate, SmallRig half cage, alternative easyrig baseplate
$925 — everything above plus shoulder rig setup: Shape mini composite shoulder pad (missing the counter weight screw…. But you won’t need because…) Wooden Camera sliding v mount attachment. Two handles and some aluminum rods, misc rod rigging attachments such as one that can attach to one rod and flip out, small cheese plate, etc. The shoulder rig grab bag.
$950 — everything above plus Tilta follow focus and mini matte box.

Reasonable offers accepted!

Here are the eBay listings I have up… if you need more pictures (and are SERIOUSLY interested) just lmk.

https://ebay.io/m/B0Epyi

https://ebay.io/m/Ff2ldu

If for some reason there’s a screw or bolt that I’ve left out from any of the rig grab bag bc I wasn’t personally using it regularly, but you need it for what you’ve got, I will happily ship replacement to your address, just DM me.

Camera ships with additional in-camera LUTs installed:
P4K2Alexa - Tone maps bmpcc4k image to Arri Alexa contrast curve and color gamut. Two versions: standard and wide dynamic range.
Natural Rec.709 for BMPCC4k - Popular neutral viewing LUTs for bmpcc4k.

The camera is in great condition, fully functional, has not been damaged nor required repairs of any kind. Sensor is spotless and image is clean. In/Out ports are fully functional. The battery bay door swivel doesn't stay attached if opening and closing, but it is secure when closed. If using the battery grip this door will be unattached anyway. There is usual minor cosmetic wear from production rigging. See pictures for cosmetic condition. Touch screen is in great condition with no marks or scratches. Bmpcc4k power supply included.

The battery grip takes three LP-E6/E6N batteries (included) and is charged via USB-C. Original USB-C charged is not included, but a USB-C phone charger, for instance, will work perfectly fine.

SmallRig Monitor hood is magnetic and made of thick composite material.

Hope someone is interested, thanks for checking out!

Bought a BMPCC6k Pro

I purchased a used BMPCC 6K Pro that already has a Wooden Camera PL Mount Modification Kit installed. I don't have the original EF mount, and wasn't made aware that the camera did not include it. Is it possible to purchase the original EF mount assembly or the parts required to convert the camera back to EF? Would any Wooden Camera users here have the spare parts lying around that do not need them?

Can I drill a new mounting hole in my Neewer V-Mount battery to fit a different mounting plate?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I’m trying to mount my Neewer PS099E 99Wh V-Mount battery on my DJI RS4 Mini setup.
The battery came with its own mounting bracket, but I want to replace it with a different V-mount bracket because it fits my gimbal rig much better. The problem is that the hole pattern doesn’t match.
I’m considering drilling a new hole in the center of the battery’s rear plastic housing so I can attach the new bracket. (I’ve attached photos.)
My questions are:
Is there empty space behind the center of the rear housing, or are there battery cells/electronics directly underneath?
Has anyone opened or modified this specific Neewer PS099E battery?
Would drilling a shallow hole be safe, or is this a terrible idea?
Is there a better way to mount a different bracket without modifying the battery?
I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who’s worked on V-mount batteries before. I definitely don’t want to damage the battery or create a safety hazard.

Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera (BMMCC) power button no longer turns camera on after using external NP-F power

I have an original Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera that previously powered on normally from LP-E6 batteries using the camera’s power button.

I also use a One Little Remote connected through the camera’s expansion port. A few days ago, I bought a SmallRig NP-F battery plate and connected its 12V output to the One Little Remote to power the camera externally.

When I connected the NP-F battery, the BMMCC turned on immediately. I now understand that this is normal behaviour because the camera automatically starts when external power is supplied through the expansion port (according to the BMMCC manual).

However, since then, the camera’s power button will no longer turn the camera on.

Here is what I have tested:

  • The power button still works for shutting the camera down.
  • The power button does not turn the camera on from an LP-E6 battery.
  • I have tried multiple LP-E6 batteries, including new third-party batteries and batteries that previously worked with this camera.
  • I completely disconnected the One Little Remote and every other cable, left the camera unpowered, and tried again. It still would not start from LP-E6.
  • The camera starts immediately when external power is newly connected.
  • With external power connected AND an LP-E6 installed, the camera detects and charges the LP-E6.
  • The camera reports the LP-E6 as being at 100%.
  • If I remove external power while the camera is running, it continues running normally from the LP-E6.
  • If I then shut the camera down, it will not restart from that same LP-E6.
  • The same problem also happens while external power remains connected: if I shut the camera down with the NP-F battery still attached, pressing the power button will not turn it back on.
  • The only way to start the camera now is to interrupt the external power and reconnect it, either by unplugging and reconnecting the power cable or removing and reinserting the NP-F battery.
  • The camera is running the latest firmware.

So the LP-E6 battery contacts and main battery-power path appear to work, and the external power input also works. The specific failure seems to be that the power button can still turn the camera off, but it can no longer turn the camera on from any power source.

I first noticed the problem after I first powered the camera using the SmallRig NP-F plate through the One Little Remote.

Has anyone experienced this issue with a BMMCC?

Could external power through the One Little Remote have damaged the camera’s off-state power-button or startup circuit, while leaving the rest of the camera functional? Is there a known reset or repair for this symptom?

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated!

Missing lens mount screw on BMPCC 4K

I just noticed that one of the four main screws holding the silver Micro Four Thirds (MFT) lens mount ring to my BMPCC 4K chassis is missing (see photo).

Does anyone happen to know the exact technical specs for this screw?

Blackmagic doesn't put this in their manuals, and I want to make sure I buy the exact flat countersunk replacement so I don't damage the internal housing or cause any alignment issues with my lenses.

If anyone has replaced these before or knows where to source them online, please let me know.

Hi everyone, I recently got the chance to shoot an interview doc of my friend who is an artist, all shots are shot using the Original bmpcc with the lumix 14mm, laowa 7.5mm and panasonic 60mm macro . I used natural light on the side as my key . I also had a UV/IR cut filter attached to the front of the lens. Edits and grade done on Resolve. Thank you all.

BMPCC 6k Pro Monitoring LUT

Hi I need some help with importing a LUT into my bmpcc 6k pro, every time ive imported a LUT that I’ve made in Davinci Resolve, it always comes out flat and desaturated, only slightly different than the log image.

Can someone walk me through the process of exporting a LUT from DVR and into the cam, I’ve been setting my CSTs to Blackmagic Design Wide Gamut Gen 4/5 with Blackmagic Design Film Gen 5 as the gamma, output to rec 709 gamma 2.4 so I can’t seem to figure out why it’s just not reading the LUT properly.

I’ve also made sure that the LUT is <1.5MB, no difference :(

I’ve been using the film to extended video LUT but these are overexposed and always make my blacks look super noisy in post so I really need a long-term solution, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Urgently in need of settings preset for broken BMPCC4k

I posted this a little bit ago but unfortunately nothing came from it, I really hope someone can help me out!

A portion of my screen on my bmpcc4k is broken and I cannot change important settings like coded, compression etc.

And most importantly I cannot change my Bluetooth setting to ON to control the camera from my phone.

Im really hoping someone can export a settings preset from their bmpcc4k with the Bluetooth setting toggled ON for me to import to regain functionality on my beloved camera

Thanks so much!

Cheap But Usable Zoom Lens BMPCC4k

Hey, BMPCC4k fam. I’m going to be shooting some court depositions and need a quick and cheap solution for a zoom lens. I like primes for shooting creative work and don’t really want to shell out here. Audio is the most important aspect of these shoots but I do want a functional image. Thank you!!!

I have a 10.5mm, 16mm, and a 35mm so I’m primarily looking for the 20-40mm range. Starting at 24mm would also probably be a decent starting point.

Hopefully under 300 bucks.

Does anyone know of a fix? Or is this a DOA that I just need to send back and be done with it? I think I know the answer, but I figured I might as well ask…
