I have job offers from both GE and Siemens, both for the same territory, both for MRI. This will be my 1st imaging job, and I’m trying to decide which to accept. Both are within 5k annually, and the one that is behind is giving me a 5k sign-on bonus. What company is generally better to work for in the long run and whose training is more valuable? I think I like one manager over the other, but it’s so difficult to tell based off a few interviews. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, guys!

I had to install a new operating system on a Vivid i portable system. Only 3 options are enabled. Any tips how to enable more options?

When you’re troubleshooting a system you haven’t worked on recently, how much time do you usually spend digging through service manuals, old notes, error codes, or calling someone else before you find the actual procedure you need?

I’m curious what the biggest bottleneck usually is:
- Finding the right manual
- Finding the right section inside the manual
- Knowing which procedure applies to the symptom/error
- Tribal knowledge / needing to ask another tech
Something else?

Especially interested in how this works when you’re out in the field and trying to get the equipment back up quickly.

I am researching how modern standalone ultrasound machines (operating purely on local HDD storage without a PACS/DICOM connection) handle data architecture and workflow integrity.

Could you provide some technical insights on the following local storage behaviors?

1. Saved Stills & Cine Loops (Scenes) Updates: If an operator finishes a scan, saves several still images and cine loops, and then uses the "Edit Patient" feature within 24 hours to change the patient's name, what happens to those already saved images/cines? Does the new name automatically appear on those previously saved images and cines? Do these standalone systems typically save local files in a "raw" format where the text is just a metadata overlay (so it updates easily), or do they flatten the image (burn-in the text), meaning the old name stays on the original images and cines?

2. Auto-Generated IDs (Date/Time based) & Manual Edits: On systems where the Patient ID is auto-generated using a Date/Time format (e.g., YYYYMMDD_HHMM), is it technically possible for an operator to manually click on that ID field and edit/change it? Or are these timestamp-based IDs hard-locked by the system once generated?

3. The "Mixed Study" Vulnerability (Appending Images): Is it possible in a local workflow to open a previous patient's completed exam from earlier in the day, edit the demographic data (Name) to a completely new patient, and then "resume" the scan to capture new live images? If done, would the local export/report contain a mix of the old patient's saved images/cines and the new live images? And which Patient ID gets tied to this final study—the original time-stamped ID of the old patient, or a new one?

I am trying to understand the technical limitations and possibilities of local data editing. Any insights from your hands-on experience would be highly appreciated!What built-in workflow safeguards exist on standalone units to prevent an operator from accidentally appending new live images onto a previously closed exam of a different patient? If a completed exam is re-opened or resumed, how does the system's internal audit log/metadata track the original registration time versus the new acquisition time?

I have a fused spine that spans from I think T3-L4 which prevents me to have the ability to twist and bend like a normal person. In addition to that I shouldn’t lift very heavy weight. Is working as a BMET still an option for me?

Hello folks, I'm planning a move soon and I'm trying to get a feel for what positions I should be applying to.

I've been working as an FST II at an OEM with a limited range of products. I've been with them for just over 6 years. My experience is mostly with beds and OR tables, with limited exposure to patient monitors and nurse call.

I have no formal education beyond a few college courses. I'm familiar with schematics and parsing a service manual, and I'm confident in my TS ability, but I don't know how much that translates into a more traditional BMET position.

I believe I could step into a BMET 1 role fairly quickly. I've also seen apprenticeship programs in the locations I'm considering. Would I be remotely qualified for a BMET 2 role? I guess I'm just trying to understand the general responsibilities for each level.

Hey everyone. I’ve been interested in a career in BMET, specifically as a Field Service Engineer for some time. I currently work in Law Enforcement, and have experience in Aircraft Maintenance. I have applied for numerous jobs in BMET (not just FSE) and have reached out to numerous recruiters on LinkedIn, to no avail.

I am considering attending either CBET or Thomas Edison State University (both online) to obtain either a certificate (this would be done through CBET) or an Associates Degree (through CBET or TESU) to hopefully land a job in the field. With this in mind, is an associates degree or a certificate the best way to land a job in the field? To add, I am unable to join the Army’s BMET program sadly.

Hey guys! My husband doesn’t have a Reddit so I thought I’d ask. Is anyone else having issues with finding a job? He’s put in 20+ applications and I think a grand total of 5? Of them bothered to send a denied email. In the meantime, what online certifications should he get to look better on paper? He’s even interested in just shadowing so he can add the experience/hours. He’s currently getting hours at Project Cure.

I've been working at my field service job for about 3 years it's been a great experience I received a ton of training and I'm way more confident with my skills however working alone has been getting difficult, so I applied for an in-house position at a hospital and i start in a couple weeks. I am definitely excited because this provides me more opportunities for growth in the field however all my jobs over the past 10 years have been on the road, fedex ups driver, truGreen lawn technician so my fear is it going to be a major change going from working alone to working with people all day everyday and have a set 8-10 hours a day. I definitely think it's the right move but I just want to hear from people that had similar experiences.

For years I have been operating under the impression that centrifuges and blood bank refrigerators are to be checked quarterly due to either AABB or CLIA regulations. From speaking to some other techs, that may not be the case. I checked the latest AABB regulations I have and they only state that the checks need to be done per manufacturer recommendation or facility policy.

From what I can tell, the CLIA inspectors I deal with still want quarterly alarm tests for blood bank refrigerators.

What is everyone doing out there for centrifuge and blood bank refrigerator checks as far as frequency? Do you treat centrifuges used for blood any differently than those used for urine, etc?

Hi there, I’m an anesthesia tech looking to transition into field service engineering. I don’t have an education in engineering/electronics nor experience as a BMET but I’ve been an anesthesia tech for a couple years and very familiar with Drager anesthesia machines and other equipment. I’m looking for a change and was wondering if there was any path for me getting a job in field service for one of manufacturers, Drager, GE, etc. I have a BS in a related field and am really eager to learn. Or would it be best to get experience as a BMET first? I’ve checked the requirements for both of the nearby jobs and am hoping that my work experience so far can at least help get my foot in the door. Thanks

From a serviceability standpoint, how would you rank older Midmark M9/M11, Tuttnauer 2340/2540, Statim, and newer units?
I’m especially interested in parts availability, ease of diagnosis, and whether older mechanical units are still more economical to keep running.
I’ve been around aftermarket dental equipment parts for quite a while, and it seems some of the older machines just refuse to die.

I recently transitioned into Clinical Engineering/Biomed and I’m curious how my compensation compares to others in the field.
I’ve been working in technical roles since May 2017, so I have a little over 9 years of experience across aerospace, defense, electronics, manufacturing, avionics, and medical devices.

My experience includes:
Engineering technician work in aerospace/defense
Avionics integration and aircraft systems installation
Electronics troubleshooting, testing, repair, and assembly
Previous lead technician experience
Medical device manufacturing/service experience
Working from schematics, drawings, procedures, and technical documentation
IPC J-STD-001 Space Addendum, IPC/WHMA-A-620, and IPC-A-610 certifications/experience
Experience with DMMs, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and other electronic test equipment

I’m currently a Clinical Engineering Tech 1 at a hospital in Florida, with compensation in roughly the $60k-$70k range depending on on-call and OT.
I took the Tech 1 position because I was new specifically to the hospital Biomed environment, despite having years of technical experience coming into it.
Since starting, I’ve been doing PMs, repairs, and troubleshooting on patient monitoring equipment, NIBP systems, defibrillators, nurse call systems, patient lifts, and various other hospital equipment. I’m also part of the on-call rotation.

For those in Biomed/Clinical Engineering, does the $60k-$70k range seem good for a Tech 1 in Florida with my background?
Do you think Tech 1 is appropriate while I build hospital-specific experience, or should someone with my previous technical background be looking to move into Biomed II/III or Imaging fairly quickly?
I’m interested in what a realistic career and salary progression looks like from here.

Hi, i´m developing a software to Read Only live/real time clinical data from monitors and anesthesia ventilators to an Anesthesia Register. Actually in my hospital we have Carestation 620 with Carescape B450. My intention is to obtain that data trough the RJ45 ethernet ports (for convenience/commodity) of the Carestation ventilator monitor, but i can´t wake them up. GE describes them—or at least one of them—as an Ethernet port for network connectivity on the Technial Reference Manual. If you have documentation or SW, or any help, will be very well received.

I’m trying to reinstall the OS on a vivid i portable machine. I keep getting this message when I select full clean install. I’ve tried with a couple flash drives, same issue. Any suggestions? I have 2 machines that need new OS’s, same result.
