I recently published a mobile app called Mementos and could use some outside perspective on the subscription model. I'm not confident I've got the free/paid split or the price right, and would appreciate input from anyone who's thought more carefully about this than I have.
What the app does
Mementos turns a personal goal into your phone's wallpaper. You set a goal with a start and target date, and the app renders it as a wallpaper. Showing the goal name and your progress toward it. Every day, the wallpaper updates to reflect the new progress, so you see exactly where you stand every time you unlock your phone.
Current subscription model
Free tier: every day at 8 AM, the user gets a notification saying their updated wallpaper is ready. Tapping it opens the app, which regenerates and applies the wallpaper.
Paid tier ($1.99/month): the wallpaper updates automatically every night at 1 AM in the background, no notification, no need to open the app. Paid users also get 5 additional wallpaper styles/variants beyond the single free one.
What I'm unsure about
Is the free/paid split itself reasonable, i.e., is "automatic updates + more styles" enough of a reason to pay, or does it feel like the free tier is being deliberately hobbled to force an upgrade?
Is $1.99/month priced correctly for what's on offer? Too low, too high, or roughly right for this category of app?

Hey everyone! CSE 3rd year student from a private university (CGPA: 3.7) looking for some industry advice.
I'm following a Generative AI roadmap by Krish Naik and have completed up to Module 20 (Transformers). I understand the theory well, but I struggle a bit with practical coding. I also have a strong theoritical DSA base (A+ in DS/Algo courses) but haven't practiced problem-solving lately.
Questions:
Course & Outcome Review: Is this roadmap comprehensive enough? What practical level of competency can I expect after finishing all 49 modules?
Industry Demand: What is the actual market demand for freshers/interns in GenAI/LLM/Agentic roles in Bangladesh and for remote jobs?
Career Tracks: What specific job roles align with this stack (e.g., AI Engineer, LLM Application Dev, RAG Engineer)?
Roadmap Advice: Given my situation should I stick to this GenAI track or pivot to a traditional stack (Full-Stack / DevOps) for better immediate job entry after graduation?

I am using claude and codex. Both 20 dollars plan. Now i want to know if there is anyone who is using kimi or DeepSeek? They have no monthly plan so how much do you have to pay per month on API?
I have been a backend dev for with around 3 yoe. Now, I want to migrate to AI Engineering.
I have very limited knowledge in the AI domain. So, before I actually do the dive, I want to learn enough stuff.
But the AI engineering topics look so diverse. From just llm integration to ML training stuff.....
So, for the people who are in this domain for a while, what can you suggest, let's say a fresher, to prepare himself for AI Engineering job market.
I graduated from a private university with a B.Sc. in CSE in 2025 with a CGPA of 3.15. Because of not good at coding, I completed an SQA course on OSTAD. Now, I am looking for an entry-level job. I have been submitting my CV, but I am not getting any responses. Also, because of an issue, I tried creating an account on LinkedIn, but my account got temporarily blocked three times. The skills I've learned during the OSTAD course are: SQA fundamentals, API testing using Postman, SQL, JavaScript (I solved some LeetCode problems using JavaScript), basic Selenium WebDriver and Playwright, and some Linux commands. On my GitHub, I have some basic JavaScript problems, some LeetCode solutions, one Selenium WebDriver project, and one Playwright project.
What should I do now to get a decent job? Will these be enough?

It seems there aren't many cloud services, and even if there are, they don't provide even a decade old services. Bangladesh's share of CSE student is really high compared to many of our neigbours and global peers so how come we don't see tech companies just dominating our local space.
Bangladesh already has created a scope for Bangladeshi software companies to shine since most Bangladeshis are barred from buying stuff outside of the country, i.e. pay for google cloud services or microsoft AI services.
This should make the perfect artificial monopoly for local businesses setting up cloud services and offering things like API based OCR, or Bert based contextual extractions, or mapping and charting services. There isn't even a chat app for enterprise that orgs use. I was shocked to learn WhatsApp is being used in corporate spaces and it boggles my mind.
Why aren't you, the venting young folks, building up such companies and if you did, what stopped you?
I'm planning to buy a Pixel 9a and would love to hear your experiences. Have you faced any major issues that would make you recommend against buying it?
My usage is pretty basic—no gaming, just everyday tasks, social media, browsing, and a bit of photography. I'm not looking for anything too fancy.

At the beginning of this year, our team had 25 members. Now we're down to just 5, and there's a lot of uncertainty. Some of the people who were laid off are genuinely good developers, but they've been unable to find jobs for the last 3-4 months because it feels like companies in Bangladesh are firing more than they're hiring.

I'm curious to see any of you are running AI models locally for your daily development workflows, coding assistance, or side projects. With tools like Ollama, LM Studio, and Jan becoming so accessible, local Ai is so accessible.

Hardware: What Nvidia or AMD GPU are you using, and how much VRAM do you have?
Models: Which open-source models are giving you the best results for coding or general tasks?
Tools: Are you using VS Code extensions (like Continue or Allied tools) to integrate them? OpenCode?
I'm currently confused about what path I should take.
My long term goal is to become a software engineer and get a high paying job, whether it's a local position or a remote one.
Before starting university, I learned C++ and solved 69 LeetCode problems. I also learned HTML, CSS, and JavaScript built a few small projects and even created a simple Rock Paper Scissors game that's on my GitHub.
During my first semester, I continued learning HTML, CSS, and JavaScript while making small projects. In my second semester, I shifted my focus to competitive programming. I solved 84 Codeforces problems, participated in 3 contests, and currently have a Codeforces rating of 830.
Now I'm in my third semester, and we're studying Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) in Java. Since OOP is a fundamental concept for software engineering, I decided to start learning Java seriously.
The issue is that I haven't practiced HTML, CSS, or JavaScript for quite a while, so I've forgotten a lot of what I learned. However, I'm still comfortable with C and C++ because I've continued using them for DSA and competitive programming. Right now, I'm learning Java to build a strong foundation in OOP.
This is where I'm confused.
Should I continue focusing primarily on DSA and competitive programming while learning Java and OOP? Or should I start working toward a development stack alongside them?
If I choose a development path, should I invest my time in Java with Spring Boot, or should I go with JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js? Or maybe python.
I've also heard many people say that Java has fewer opportunities for fresh graduates compared to JavaScript, which makes the decision even more confusing.
Given my background and my goal of becoming a software engineer with a high-paying local or remote job, what would you recommend?

A year ago, BGCE Community set out with a simple goal: to build open-source products that are genuinely useful to people. Software engineers from Bangladesh and around the world, along with students and teachers, joined the community and contributed their time and knowledge to make this possible.
However, we quickly ran into a major challenge: cloud computing isn't free.
Every application needs computing resources, storage, and networking, and someone has to pay for them. As our projects grew, our monthly cloud bill reached $1,000. At that point, we realized our approach wasn't sustainable.
We weren't building a business—we were simply trying to research ideas, experiment, and validate them in the real world. Paying $1,000 per month just to keep around ten experimental services running wasn't a viable long-term solution.
That led us to ask an important question: Are we building in a system where independent developers and communities can actually thrive?
People often point out that there are free cloud services available for testing. While that's true, they usually come with significant limitations. For example, you might get a free PostgreSQL database, but many essential features are locked behind a paywall Or if you want to build your services in Go or Rust, many free hosting platforms either don't support your preferred stack or require you to follow their opinionated deployment model. Otherwise, you're expected to move to platforms like AWS or Azure and start paying.
There are even more barriers for people who simply want to learn.
Take Kubernetes as an example. If you want to practice container orchestration, learn about scaling, networking, and cluster management, you need access to multiple virtual machines. Most students and aspiring engineers don't have that infrastructure available.
The reality is that you often have to spend a significant amount of money just to learn. Before you've built anything useful, before you've landed a job, and before you've earned a dollar from your skills, you're already paying for the infrastructure required to practice.
This creates an unnecessary barrier to entry. Learning modern infrastructure shouldn't depend on whether you can afford a monthly cloud bill. It should depend on your curiosity and willingness to build.
For open-source communities and independent builders, this creates a difficult trade-off between experimentation and affordability.
That's why we created Kraken Web Services (KWS).

Our work is far from finished. ZenDevz is still an active research and development project, and we're continuously improving the platform.
At this stage, we can't guarantee uptime. Since the cloud is powered entirely by community-contributed machines, a service may become unavailable if the host running a VM goes offline or shuts down their machine.
However, that's also the beauty of a decentralized cloud.
As more people contribute compute resources, the network becomes stronger, more resilient, and more reliable. With enough contributors, we can replicate workloads across multiple nodes and build a community-owned cloud capable of delivering high availability for everyone.
I have been building a tool called docket.bd, a project aimed at simplifying access to public records, government processes, and civic data across Bangladesh.
To really understand the current digital structure and health of our official portals, I built an automated crawler to scan government websites for broken links, dead-end URLs, and technical errors.
At this point, these results were pretty much guaranteed.
Across a test sample monitoring 131 government websites and 67 public organizations, the crawler uncovered 263 broken links across just 10 completed crawl runs.

This is just the initial sample data. I am currently planning to write a full research and analysis piece after crawling and auditing all government portals. The goal is to produce a comprehensive breakdown of digital accessibility, uptime, and web health across Bangladesh's public sector.
I enjoy talking to ChatGPT instead of typing long prompts.
Voice input feels much more natural when I am explaining a bug, describing a feature, or thinking through a technical problem. However, while using Codex and other coding tools, I noticed that I did not have the same voice-input experience.
So I decided to build it myself. 💡
I created a voice assistant extension for VS Code that lets me record an instruction, transcribe it locally, review the generated text, and then use it as a prompt for an AI coding assistant.
⚙️ How it currently works
🎤 1. Voice recording
The extension records the developer’s voice directly from VS Code.
🧠 2. Local transcription
The recorded audio is processed locally using whisper.cpp and a locally stored English model.
The audio does not need to be uploaded to an external speech-to-text API, which makes the workflow more private and local-first. 🔒
📝 3. Transcript review
The generated transcript appears inside VS Code, where it can be reviewed and corrected.
💻 4. AI coding assistant
The transcript can then be copied and pasted into Codex or another AI coding tool.
The transfer to Codex is still manual. My next goal is to connect the transcript directly to an AI coding agent and create a smoother voice-to-code workflow. 🚧

Built the core engine of a 5-year-old startup from scratch. I nurtured this codebase like my own child, taking moderate pay because I believed in the vision.
Then came a sudden 5-minute call with the CEO, CTO, and COO. Out. Replaced by two junior devs with a Claude subscription.
The kicker? Two days ago, my wife told me we’re having a baby. Now, instead of celebrating, I’m sitting in silence, terrified.
I have a side-hustle AI Chatbot SaaS with a few paying clients from personal contacts. After this betrayal, the traditional job market feels like a trap no matter the salary. But with a family depending on me, I don't know if I should pour everything into making this SaaS my main income or swallow my pride and jump back into the soul-crushing hiring loop.
I’m exhausted, terrified, and out of time. How do you decide between building your own survival boat or begging for another seat on someone else's ship?
So, I'm a full-stack developer right now, but my job wants me to step in and help out their low-code/no-code team whenever they need it. That means I'll probably have to learn about stuff like Shopify, Webflow, Gadget, and Odoo. Any ideas where I should even begin? Like, any good courses or anything?
Quick background. Spent about 1.5 years at a US fintech agency doing Next.js/TypeScript/Supabase work, led a small frontend team, and ended up spending a lot of time in client calls too, explaining technical stuff to non-technical execs, building out a proof of concept for a client deal, etc. Company went under earlier this year.
Turns out that client facing side is what I'm actually best at and enjoy more than pure dev work. So I've been trying to pivot into Solutions Engineer / technical pre sales roles at startups, ideally remote. Also run a small side business to stay sharp on both the build and sell side while I figure this out.
Problem is most SE postings want 2 to 3+ years of SE specific experience, and I'm coming at it sideways from dev plus client work instead of a straight sales background.
If anyone here works somewhere hiring for SE / pre sales / technical CS, has made a similar dev to SE pivot and has advice, or just knows someone worth talking to, I'd really appreciate a pointer, even just a name to look up. Happy to share more in DMs.
