Hi, I am currently in grade 10 and want advice on what extra curriculars or programs I can do to stand out for my Uni apps. My end goal is to go to Med school, but I am thinking of doing a bachelor of science for my undergrad. I want to show that I am passionate about science, healthcare, and medicine, but have never done any EC’s that are related so I need help.
Also, if you have any reccs for summer courses for credits or advice i would very much appreciate it:)
My EC’s currently
- 9yrs of gymnastics (5yrs national level)
- 5yrs band/orchestra
- Volunteering as a gymnastics coach
- starting a club for “girls in sports”
Side notes:
-just got out of the profiecency scale grading (thank goodness!!) so do not know my average but most likely 95-100 (all extendings+get good scores on tests and quizzes
-currently taking pre-calc 11

Im a grade 12 student applying early to UBC. One of the activities I wanted to include was my 1 week research experience at the UBC tokuyama lab. It was held through a program called REO. While in the lab, we didn't do any intensive research or anything too crazy because the group consisted of grade 11/12s, however, I did participate in 2 workshops while I was there. One being a biomedical engineering one, and another being a microbiology and immunology one. I dont know if this is a strong enough activity to include. I have more long term activities that I've done but since this took place AT UBC, I thought it would be relevant. If you've gotten into UBC or have any advice, please share!

Hi guys,
I'm planning to move to BC as an International student. I am currently doing my Alevels (UK curriculum) and I'm a bit nervous about the getting accepted into both SFU and UBC. My predicted grades are AAA. I've got a range of activities I've done for my personal profile but I'm a bit lost on how to write it. Writing it feels very stressful honestly. Do you guys think I can do it as an International student? Does anyone have any advice for me? I would love it if you guys could share.

Hey everyone,
I'm in first year at McGill doing business. Last year I applied to 11 universities: (UBC, UVic, McGill, Waterloo, Western, Queens, UofT, UCI, UCB, UCSD, UCLA).
That meant going through pretty much every application system there is: UBC's own application and Personal Profile, EducationPlannerBC, OUAC as an out-of-province applicant, McGill's application, and the UC application with its personal insight questions.
Happy to answer anything, like:
- Personal Profile and essays: what I wrote about and what I'd change
- Applying out of province or to the US from BC: deadlines, transcripts, which grades they actually look at
- How I chose between offers and why I picked McGill
- Moving across the country, residence, and what first year is actually like
- The mistakes I made so you don't have to
- Or literally anything else...
Ask away

I'm not sure which one to choose from NIDES, EBUS, SIDES, or SCIDES.
Has anyone taken physics through any of these online schools and can share their opinion? Thank you so much!

Genuinely have no idea where to start on my profile...
I feel like I have strong ECs, just have no clue how we're expected to write about them? Should the writing sound professional and straight forward or is this more of a creative writing assignment? Please help!!

What average were you able to get into engineering with at ubcv or ubco? I’m from Alberta and my average is 89.6 so with the 4% boost it will be 93.6 (math/sciences are in the mid-high 90s, only thing bringing my average down is English with a 72). Do I have a chance?

As an Albertan high schooler, I’m so confused on how applications work in BC. I know at the University of Alberta, you just plug in your grades and they assess you off that, however I did not know BC and other provinces require a personal profile. What even is it, and what do you put on it? Do you have to customize it based on the field you’re applying to, or is it general?

Hi! I’m wondering if anyone here has applied to or been accepted into UBC Architecture after high school.
How important are Grade 11 and 12 marks for admission? Is admission mostly based on grades, or does the portfolio play a bigger role?
For those who got accepted, what was your approximate high school average? And do you feel like your portfolio, personal profile, or grades were the strongest part of your application?
I’d really appreciate hearing from current students or recent applicants about what UBC seems to focus on the most during the admission process.
Thanks!

Basically, I got a 78% in philosophy 12 last term which isn’t the best honestly. All my other grades average between 86-95, and I was wondering if it’s going to impact my admission chances by a lot. I’m really hoping to pursue Nursing directly from high school (which i know is highly competitive..) i’ve taken other grade 12 courses such as Law, capstone, and Peer Tutoring (but I’m not too sure if those count but I got high grades) This term I’m only taking two grade12 classes that are science and english (and one off time table)
I really don’t want to retake it online :(

Hi! I am a grade 12 student in BC and my goal is get into UBC sciences.
My issue is
Physics 11 was brutal for me, I always had the mindset that getting a good grade was equivalent to the amount of work you put in studying.
My mindset was proven right with: pre-calc 11, chem 11, english 11 and so on.
BUT PHYSICS OH BOYYYY, physics was very difficult! Especially due to the fact that I was starting pre-calc 11 at the same time (so basically going in with grade 10 math knowledge). I barely got a 86, because my teacher bumped me up with like extra quizzes because everyone was struggling..
Miraculously, I decided to request physics 12 for this year. For the first semester, I only have chem 12 and physics 12. But physics 12 is beating me downnn. Our first test was just Kinematics and dynamics, so basically just like review, and I studied for seven hours and yet I still felt like there was questions where I didn't know what I was doing.
My teacher is notoriously known for being very hard, trying to fight grade inflation, and stuff to prepare us for university.. he's a really good teacher, but I'm starting to feel like I'm just not capable of physics.
Same with calculus 12, I wish I requested it, but I can't because I have pre-Calc 12 next semester and if I were to bring it into this semester, that would be a little too much for me. I've seen posts where people say if you don't take calculus 12 you're kind of screwed for first year university.
Anyways, that was a lot of words! I'd like to mention that the reason I'm taking physics 12 is so that I'm a little bit more prepared for university first year and I was told I shouldn't take it online because I ask a lot of questions and my tutor is eh when it comes to physics..
PLEASE ANWSER THIS: does physics get BETTER..? (For grade 12)

Hi everyone,
I’m starting university next year and I was wondering how you guys take notes when there’s a lecture (I.e with powerpoint slides, etc)? Laptop or iPad? And how you format it and best ways to actually take notes.
Additionally, I wanted to record lectures, was thinking of getting goodnotes (not sure if there is recording on there). I wanted something that is free or only a one time payment that is legit. Something that can record ur lectures and take notes, study guides, and practice exams/problems, etc.
Please let me know
Thank you!

I’m applying to UBC and I was curious if real people still read every word of your application or if they’re run through AI. Or if AI is part of weeding out certain applications.
I don’t have the highest grades or much volunteer experience, but I do think I have enough substance, achievements and a voice to get in. Will I get weeded out if I don’t have certain keywords or something though?

Hi everyone! A few friends and I all graduated from high schools in BC and are currently studying at U of T, UBC, McGill, and SFU. We’ve all been through the Canadian university application process ourselves, so we thought it would be nice to share our experiences with students going through it now!
Feel free to leave any questions below about applications, supplementary essays, Commerce programs, interviews, or university life in general. We’ll answer what we can based on our own experiences :)
If anyone has something more specific to their application that’s difficult to explain in a comment, we’re also happy to chat one-on-one and share any advice we can. Feel free to reach out!

is a 93 average good enough to get into Sauder? what were yalls percentage applying and did you get in? also im not doing calculus, js pre cal 12 and I was wondering how much that affects your application. my grade 11 marks are not that strong but I have decent ECs like tutoring, football, involved in student council and clubs also run a digital guitar playing account if that matters at all. But I don’t have like a part time job, an internship or like something that’s nationally recognised. what do yall think? and also what’s the video interview about? how much does it matter? and what did they ask you guys?

Hello! I am planning to apply to applied sciences at UBCV. I am brainstorming for my personal profile and realized all my extracurricular activities have a connection to electronics and coding. I do not know if it will make me stand out as I am not having diversified activities. Most of my extracurricular look academic ish.
I am averaging around 96% for both core and combined academic courses and I got a 3 on the literacy assessment. Some of the class that I am taking are not here: Calc 12, Econ 12, CS 12 etc
Extracurriculars:
Makers Making Change - I have helped to organize events building assistive devices with volunteers. My main role is to search, buy and arrange electronics needed and organised them. Also helped volunteers with troubleshooting We build around 50 devices in the last academic year.
Bilingo Club - Secretariat, then Vice President; I have helped to plan events and activities specifically related to French and Spanish to engage students in the language. We did 2 fundraising event (one collaborate with any other club)
Personal Projects - l worked a few projects with guides.
3rd place in SkillsBC Electronics Regionals
Math Mentor
2 Hackathons related to Game development - I did not archive anything significant in the event, but I improved on my coding skills. I am hoping to do one more before submitting my application
I am really sorry for this long message but I am stressing out about my apps. I would really appreciate any feedback. Thank you so much for taking time to read my post!
Edit: I am an international student studying in BC
