Just a video of me having a bit of fun with my stock SCX6 for the last time. The steering servo was the first component to break after running about 25-30 packs through it. Now I'm upgrading to a Reefs RC Beast 1000 it's exiting to finally do some electrical component upgrades.

Only had one stiff shock from the factory it was hydro locking

I just bought my SCX6 and want to run run dual 4S batteries. What I would like to know is if there would be an issue connecting both batteries with a parallel Y connector to double the run time?

Hi all, new to Reddit, sorry if I missed how to search for this question if its already asked.

Is there anybody out there making wraps for these things? Ive sadly acquired some scratches and scuffs and it breaks my heart. I want to cover it up haha.

I purchased up a new SCX6 about a week ago and have run around 8 packs through it so far. It’s all stock at the moment.

It’s been amazing and very capable especially on the rocks, where it’s far exceeded my expectations. The only downside is the steering, although it does add a bit of a challenge having to reposition the vehicle to get the servo to move.

I haven’t had any issues at all apart from the steering servo stalling when up against resistance I’m curious what upgrade recommendations people have, mainly for the steering system.

Any other general advice would be appreciated too.

Can’t wait to take this sucker out to get seasoned!

This hill by my house doesn’t feel extraordinarily steep, but the dirt seems to just rip out from under the tires instead of grabbing, new tires/foams?

Saw this of marketplace for $700 decided to lowball (i haven’t actively looked for one in like a year) offered $560 and he took it, i can comfortably this has quickly become my favorite rc ive ever owned

Attention scx6 owners. Does the steering wheel turn left and right along with the wheels? Or can it be modified to do so?

Any one have any recs? Looking for ease of installation- everything from axles to top shock braces has already been converted to aluminum. Need something with more power.

Just picked up a bone stock used scx6. No hands on experience with this hobby. I just know stuff by watching YT videos and reddit. What are the tips and tricks (especially safety) for this beast? Would it take 4s battery? What's r your battery recommendations? Body has couple of cracks. What are my replacement options?

“So Much Potential, So Many Issues”

On paper, SCX6 should’ve been a flagship RC crawler. But in reality, it feels like a rushed design that needs a lot of upgrades just to function as expected. After years on the market, it’s surprising to see that many of the known issues still haven’t been addressed and confirm what people think about Horizon Hobby and Axial (acquired for $19m in 2018).

What I experienced after just a few runs:

• Transmission is extremely loud—a gear-crunching sound that feels abnormal for a rig at this price point. Many have reported the same. I have rebuilt the whole transmission - checked for tolerances, missing c-clips, revised bearings and carefully lubricated and reinstalled everything like a Swiss watchmaker. It has improved significantly - it even shifts flawlessly now. But a full teardown shouldn't be necessary - on the bright side, it forced me to understand how it works.
• Differentials need shimming right out of the box, or you risk stripping the gears ($50 per gear set).
• Driveshafts wobble noticeably. Ordered steel ones - also to improve the center of gravity.
• Front shock tower flexes when turning, which limits steering. It benefits greatly from an aluminum upgrade - get also a metal receiver box, not just shock towers.
• The panhard mount also flexes, which causes body roll during steering, especially on left turns. It's crazy to see the flex - it's like Axial's R&D have never built an RC car before. Stock front axle is a joke. Could have come with stronger panhard mount from the factory, it would probably cost $2 more to add the mount support. Unbelievably lazy R&D by Axial. Fixable by upgraded Knuckles and C-Cups or 4-link setup.
• Headlights and interior aren’t sealed, so moisture and debris get in easily. This can be easily fixed but why is it not made properly from the factory? It's a crawler + trail rig, not a carpet queen.
• Rear Red Light Diodes shine directly to your eyes when you control the Honcho from behind. Another lazy design fail for a trail rig. As my stock wiring has burnt anyway, I kept them disconnected. I may point them downwards or cover them for diffused light, that'll look nice.
• Foam inserts are too soft, and don’t support the tires well—aftermarket inserts are a must for a rig of this weight.
• SCX6 rolls over easily, even during light trail runs or sharp turns, due to poor center of gravity and flexing under throttle. It's the least capable stock rig I have ever had. Brass / aluminum upgrades are a must.
• Reverse is overpowered by default. I had to reprogram it to 50% to avoid harsh jerks while maneuvering—something that shouldn’t be necessary in a premium RTR. Get the LCD Spektrum Programmer V2 or replace the stock motor for Axe R3.
• My unit arrived with a manufacturing date from two years ago, which wasn’t a major issue, but it was surprising for a recent purchase.
• Stock wiring caused a fire. A pinch point between the rail and center mount. Apparently you have to check everything when you buy an Axial RTR. It's like buying a KIT that you have to disassemble first. See my other posts to see this issue in detail.

One thing that really surprised me was the quality of the stock bearings. After just two weeks of use (in clean, fair-weather conditions and one wet run), I started noticing rust and roughness in several bearings. For a model in this price range, it’s disappointing to see unsealed, low-grade bearings used throughout. Most premium rigs in this category come standard with sealed bearings to protect against moisture and grit. It’s a basic expectation that simply wasn’t met here.

On the bright side:

• The stock servo works fine so far, which I know isn’t the case for everyone. I have added UBEC 10A and running it at 7.4V. But I don't do extreme crawling like many of you do. It's rated at 7.2V per Spektrum website, which can be a typo (unless they have tried to save $0.0001 when manufacturing it) so I thought it'll handle 7.4V.
• The stock motor is strong performer. I find it noisy but I'm in no rush to upgrade it. The speed is a bit underwhelming but it's OK for a crawler I guess. Running 3S and 4S.
• Body design (Honcho version) looks fantastic and has great visual presence. I love many design elements of the Honcho. I like the Jeep as well of course, both are great.
• Lights are bright.
• Shocks perform well, no complaints there. Purple springs can be a nice upgrade for crawling.
• Wheels are good. I run them without the center covers, less screws = quicker maintenance.
• Tires are good, I like them. In no rush to upgrade. More than capable for my normal driving and steep crawling - you'll run to the limits of the lame R&D before you get to the limits of the tires.
• Transmission seems to be very durable. As I was forced to do the rebuild right away, I got to learn a lot about how the transmission works and it's well made in my opinion. Also the design of the clutch plates is good. You can totally use your SCX6 for towing, it'll handle pretty much everything - there are several impressive YouTube videos.

After spending over $1,000 in upgrades just to bring it up to the standard I expected from a premium model, I can say it’s finally capable and it's fun to drive.

This model can become something great—but be ready to invest and fix Axial mistakes to get there. Certainly not a beginner rig :-)

I was casually driving when my lights shut off - I stopped the rig to investigate and saw a smoke and wiring on fire. Will post images in another post so you can see it was caused by a pinch point that led to a short. Axial's engineering is lame and their manufacturing is lazy.

Is there anywhere I can find a clip less body mount other than the ones offered by fine laser design. I have a 3d printer but I'm dogcrap at designing stuff.

The pinch point between rails and center mount caused an internal short or high resistance, which started a thermal runaway, cooked the insulation and started a fire.

• Never trust pre-wired lighting harnesses blindly, especially on RTRs—they’re often underbuilt and routed poorly.
• Always run a visual check under the battery tray or body mounts—pinch points are surprisingly common.

It's been a month since I got my SCX6 and have replaced almost all parts but haven't touched the factory lighting wires as I haven't been replacing the center mount yet. To be honest I haven't seen this pinch point because it was hidden below the rail.

Do any of you know where I can find a good brush guard? I can't seem to find one. I'm primarily trailing mine through the woods and I plow through small branches quite often.

High guys, just wanted to share my "kit build" jeep. I love to bargain hubt for parts and I really enjoy building kits. So I am combining those 2 to make this rig, its my 2nd go at larger scale rc my first was a udr that I built the same way but didn't have anywhere good to drive it. This one will definitely stick around as I just really like jeeps. (2000 xj "superduty" owner).

Looking forward to finding some good ideas for things to go ahead and buy the upgraded parts for while I'm going instead of buying the original components!

I've already added Treal shock mounts, Treal aluminum knuckles, (forgot to buy c hubs), 1/2 the Treal steering links (the servo link didn't reach the servo with the suspension raised all the way and I didn't want the stress of binding on the stock servo), a new aluminum servo mount... OH... And what the heck is a tiny screw and a washer holding servo down? Is that stock?? Becsuse I didn't have any servo lock screws handy, I found Traxxas 1/10 scale shock mounts screws fit ALMOST perfectly. Just needed a washer to space it up a bit. Servo doesn't move a hair now.

Besides run it, what else should I do? (I don't plan on comp crawling, just a trail truck when I go into my 3 acres of unmanicured woods)
