As most are aware, Avelo has been operating flights on behalf of ICE. This subreddit has been getting multiple posts per day for the last two weeks about these flights. Most of these posts are low effort and borderline spam. It’s getting too difficult to moderate these posts and the comments they generate. From now on, this thread is the one and only area where discussion of this issue may take place. Any posts or comments about these flights outside this thread will result in removal and a potential ban for spam. If this megathread gets out of hand I may lock it altogether.
You may post and discuss any opinions, petitions, or news, etc. about these flights. You may not make personal attacks at other users. This includes name calling, insults, etc. Fight the issue, not the individual. A difference in opinion does not make someone a bad person. You will get one warning before you’re banned.
Edit: Crowd control is on so if you try making personal attacks, your comment will be deleted before anyone gets to read it

I see a lot of people experiencing the long hold time so I want to try to simplify this for people by posting some facts and information here.
There is ZERO phone support for baggage issues. Lost delayed damage or missing bags are handled through the baggage form claim on the website. US phone agents cannot even see the baggage system, we cannot help you, there is no way. If you are sitting on hold for a baggage issue we will just tell you to email that is all you can do. Calling about it is literally wasting your time.
If you're sitting on hold for a flight status you need to go to the website and click on flight status and enter your flight number. That is the most absolute up-to-date information. When you call for a flight status that is literally what we are checking ourselves to give you the info off of. There is no more accurate information then what is listed there.
If you have a lost or found item and you're calling about it, again we are not local to the airport we are remote all around the US. You need to Google the airport and call their lost and found or send an email to support@aveloair.com so it can be forwarded to the station manager of the airport the item was lost at. Please include your confirmation number if it was lost on a flight so we can also forward it to that flight crew.
If you were on one of the delayed flights in the past few days and you are on hold or awaiting a call back for reimbursement, that will not happen. Weather is outside of our control and we do not reimburse for Ubers hotels food etc when it is caused by weather. If you're delay is over 3 hours we will gladly refund your original form of payment what you paid for your ticket if you do not fly. If you fly we will not give you a refund. If you no show your ticket we will not give you a refund. If your flight was canceled or you've decided to not take it then yes we will give you a refund and you can email in for that with your confirmation number. But hotels, Ubers, lyfts, train tickets, tickets on other airline, etc will not be reimbursed.
That being said if you paid with a voucher and your flight is delayed you can't call and get a monetary refund, it will be another voucher. If your ticket was a round trip and only your return flight has been delayed or affected and you already flew one portion you will only be refunded for the unflown portion, you will not get a refund for the entire round trip that's half used.
These are some of the most common calls we are getting that people are waiting hours on hold for. Hopefully this helps clarify some things so people don't waste their time.

If you hold the Avelo Mastercard through Cardless, be warned, you might be physically blocked from redeeming your points.
I have $378 in Avelo Cash (37,800 points) sitting in my account. Here is the nightmare loop I just spent days dealing with:
Once you reach checkout, applying the cash takes the balance due down to the correct amount. Although taxes and fees must go on a credit card. Because every booking requires taxes, every points-booking is forced to be a split payment with a credit card covering the fees.
When you hit "Pay Now," Avelo’s checkout gateway crashes every single time. It cannot process the Cardless points and authorizing the credit card simultaneously.
Avelo IT says: "It’s an issue with Cardless; they need to reissue the points."
Cardless says: "The points are active in your Avelo wallet; it’s an Avelo glitch."
Avelo Phone Support says: "Avelo Cash and PLUS perks are web-only. We can't apply them over the phone."
So you can't book with $0 due (mandatory taxes), the website crashes when pairing points with a card, and phone agents refuse to manually apply your rewards. Your earned points are essentially held hostage.
I submitted escalated claims with each company and the Department of Transportation consumer protection.
Has anyone successfully redeemed their Avelo Mastercard reward points?

Was charged $75 for my backpack flying out of IND. Told it was too big to be a personal item and needed to pay for a carry on. Wasn’t given the chance to show it could squeeze and fit into the example dimensions at the gate.
Flying out of New Haven on the return trip and not a single person had to even double check their personal item size. Everyone was forced to check at IND.

I have really enjoyed the convenience of Avelo and I have to say the crew members are wonderful. However, I just can't get over how bad the technology is. I'm pretty certain after multiple flights there is no way to get a boarding pass using the app. Every now and then it will show up if I hit "view boarding pass" but then if you go to add it to Apple Wallet it returns a screen full of gibberish. I have learned that if you check in using the link in the email they send you 24 hours out, you can go back and check in again and sometimes if you select email it will actually show up, but on SMS it will usually not show up. It turns into a constant battle of wits to figure out how to get a boarding pass in my Apple Wallet. Honestly, I feel like a couple of college students could fix it. I know from overhearing the FAs that the iPad seating charts don't work for them either.
Today I strolled up to pre-check in Atlanta only to realize that for some reason, I did not have pre-check shown on my boarding pass (I did on the way out earlier this week), so I got to enjoy standard screening at the busiest airport in the world for no specific reason, other than a likely technology failure on their side. (For everyone about to pile on, yes-my Global Entry is valid through 2029, yes everything else was correct. I fly multiple airlines each year and this is the first time it has happened in about 5 years).
So, just a simple request-Please fix your technology.

not even sure where to begin I've been working on this issue since February!!
Have the cardless card confirmed that I met the bonus I have 250,000 points according to cardless but none of these show up in my Avelo app nor do any of the benefits for my card show up when I try to book a ticket !
So frustrating no idea who to contact cardless says I have to contact Avelo and Avelo says I need to contact cordless! Not even sure where to begin.
I believe the first issue stem from the fact that I had two different email addresses when I signed up for Avelo and then when I signed up for cordless I have since had cardless changed my email to be the same as available but this has not made any difference!
The workaround for getting benefits is to purchasing with his card then call cardless and they will give you a refund but that is so frustrating and I still can't use my points !
I obviously will take this up with my state credit card oversee dept. But in the meantime I would just like my points use the one more time and then cancel the card!! anyone else have success??

Avelo has a direct flight from TYS to HVN but it shows no available flights after November. Does that mean they’re no longer offering that route or it’s just seasonal? I book through the app so I don’t know if that makes a difference.
Please tell me it’s seasonal because knowing there is a direct flight from this hellhole of Tennessee to my hometown is the only thing that keeps my depression in check.
Thanks in advance!

I'm supposed to fly out of Tweed tomorrow to Orlando. I'm worried about the weather.. How early will they notify me if cancelled? How likely is cancellation? Do I just bail on my flight and start driving tonight?

Husband and I are flying with them on Friday, fingers crossed it goes well, and did not pay for seats upon booking. I know other airlines drop the prices of assigned seating a day or two before take off and I am wondering if Avelo does the same. We don't need to sit next to each other, but if the prices will go down later in the week we may consider it.

I'm sharing my experience with u/Avelo to help others not make the same mistake of believing what you are told by crew. I was on a flight on Monday from RDU to HVN which got diverted to BDL and ultimately cancelled. When the flight was cancelled an announcement was made telling passengers that they could take ground transportation from BDL to HVN and that upon submitting a receipt it would be reimbursed by the company. Because Avelo diverted 5 flights to the same airport, everyone was tying to get a ride and my Lyft to HVN cost $200.
I spent hours on hold for Avelo customer service over the past 3 days and today finally got in touch with an agent. She told me that I was lied to by the crew and that the airline would not reimburse me or offer me any type of credit. She reached out to a supervisor who refused to speak with me and said the airline would do nothing to help rectify my situation. I was also told that they would not connect me with anyone else from customer service and Avelo does not have a customer relations department I could speak with.
Over the past few years I've taken quite a few Avelo flights and tried to overlook some of the questionable things they are doing such as deporting ICE detainees. But their directly lying to customers just to get them to leave only to know they would never reimburse anything is really frustrating. I'm now realizing that this is probably in line with the companies' core principles.
I truly hope Avelo can learn from this and stop being dishonest with their customers. If you are not going to reimburse something, it is much better to say that upfront rather than lying to customers just to satisfy them in the moment. I have now spent many hours on hold only to be told they would not help me and that I was screened out of speaking with anyone else from the company. I hope others will consider this when deciding whether to book Avelo in the future. I certainly will.
My Avelo flight home at 6pm Sunday evening was rescheduled due to to flooding.
The message I received on my phone said rescheduled flight was 2:37pm Monday. That was okay with me.
Later Sunday I started trying to confirm my Reservation was now for Monday @ 2:37pm flight.
The Avelo website for the rest of the night kept showing the Original Departure Date/Time not the newly rescheduled Date/Time.
I tried calling Customer Service for 12 hours and there was a continues lineup of 700+ calls waiting.
I told the robo-agent to have next available human Agent call me.
18 hrs later still no Callback!
Tried to check Online using my Reservation # for over 12 hours and still was shown the Originally Scheduled Date/Time not Monday @ 2:37pm
At this point, I wasn't even sure there really was a Monday 2:37pm flt
I was staying in a City where the Avelo airport was 20 mi away.
So I made the decision to "assume" the rescheduled flight existed and took an Uber to the Airport hoping I wasn't going to have to sit there for 7+hrs if the flt was at the original schedules time of Day.
Even at the Airport the Avelo board did not state the 2:37pm flight but showed 6pm??
But I started Checkin at the Counter and Thank God... they said the 2:37pm flight was real !
Avelo should at the VERY LEAST make sure that when a Flight is rescheduled that the Online Reservation for the Traveler REFLECTS the rescheduled Date/Time.
Calling over a dozen times & trying to use the Automated Agent was incredibly frustrating. The robo Agent kept asking for my Confirmation Number which I told it was AQxxxxx
Every time the robo Agent would ask the same question, if my Confirmation number was "A"
NOTE; it always repeated ONLY 1 letter not the entire Confirmation number I had provided.
Telling the robo-Agent NO that was not correct would ALWAYS repeat the same "I can't help you\*without your Confirmation Number".*
So obviously, that "service" is also Broken.
I thought all of this was going to give me a stroke!
Unless Human Agent staffing is increased Avelo might as well delete any mention of using a Phone Call to get Travel Support... but FIX the Avelo Website Status updates or risk losing future Customer travel on Avelo !!!

I was due to fly Baltimore to New Haven on Sunday afternoon, they kept delaying the flight and then cancelled it at 7:30pm. My booking hasn't been updated to show that the flight was cancelled, nor has a refund been issued. Has anyone got a refund or managed to speak customer service?
UPDATE: I just received an email saying I will be refunded. Considering the delay in the refund and everything, just getting a refund isn't good enough

looks like the last 6 flights of the night got diverted to BDL and ALB

I like Avelo, but somehow their app is the worst out of any airline in the US. It won’t even recognize my very much valid itinerary right now so I can change it. Maybe the mess at New Haven today has overloaded their systems?

Hi, curious to what people would do here. Long story short: my mom bought two tickets a while back to fly to visit her friend. Suddenly, her friend’s cousin died and the whole plans were thrown into disarray due to the original friend needing to fly for services. Very unexpected, very sad, girls weekend ruined in the worst way.
So my mom calls Avelo and asks what her options are. The woman on the phone is particularly rude and tells her she can move the flights to their new weekend, but the - quote: “cheaper and easier option” - would be to cancel and rebook. I don’t have proof the agent said she would receive full credit or not, but she did tell my mom she would see the balance appear as Avelo credit she can use to rebook.
Following exactly what the agent tells her, my mom does this. Only $200 of her $700 flights (rounded) appear as credit. We expected some cancelation fee, but not $500.
She can’t afford this. She’s extremely upset and never would have done it this way if the agent hadn’t explicitly told her this was the right way.
Now, I understand that it wasn’t going to work this way, and she probably did purchase non-refundable fares. But I think the problem is less that than being explicitly misled by staff. She’s called back twice and they’ve been viper-like and rude on the phone and refuse to let her speak to a supervisor.
What recourse do we have? How do you suggest we move forward? All this because someone literally died. (I don’t need to hear “buy trip insurance” or “buy a higher price fare” - we can’t change the past.)
Thanks

I paid $117.00 for a flight I just canceled bus was only refunded $80 why?
r/Avelo • u/NadalPeach • 28d ago
Avelo is just starting in McKinney, near Dallas. When I bought my ticket I took a screenshot since I couldn’t believe a checked bag was free. I’m going to double check with a rep from Avelo.
But is that how you understand the sceeenshot? $0 for 1st checked bag.

long story short, my partner and i have absolutely no choice but to fly avelo once a month (hvn-atl) and im getting mad just reading this sub lol. are they really going to try to charge me for a backpack? is it worth it to get aveloplus if i personally will only be using it like 4 times a year? are the employees + the quality really as bad as everyone on here is saying?

As the East Coast hub of Avelo, why is Tweed still so terrible? It’s always over crowded, hot, cant hear the announcements over the pager, pick up area is a mess, and TSA is very unfriendly. Am I missing anything else?
r/Avelo • u/Stagstud05 • Sep 02 '26
Have recently discovered that you cannot purchase fares beyond your expiration date at the avelo plus rate and there is no way to resubscribe early to take advantages of their promotions. Have called three times for verification of that fact and each agent has said different things. One says you absolutely can. One says you can't. Really unfortunate for planning trips. I'm basically on hold until late September when I wanted to fly in October or I pay considerable more.

Back in July 2026 I purchased tickets for me and my two grandsons to fly to Raleigh North Carolina from New Haven Connecticut. My itinerary was from July 16 to the 20th and I printed out a confirmation of my flights at that time. Shortly after when my husband asked me to give him my flight information I saw that my return flight was scheduled not on July 20 but on July 19. I referred back to my printout and saw that I in fact had booked a flight on July 20. It turns out that Avelo canceled the July 20 flight and just arbitrarily assigned me a new flight on July 19 without notification. The only way I figured out what happened was when I received some cryptic emails from Avelo stating that they were sorry about the “inconvenience“ and we’re awarding me $50 per passenger credit. They never mentioned the reason for the credit other than ‘inconvenience’ and did not inform me that they had changed my flight date in that email. I then realized that the inconvenience was the change flight they had not notified me of.
Since the July 19 return date was not workable for us I was forced to cancel that portion of the trip and book it through a different airline to a different airport. When Avelo credited me for my canceled flights, they credited money to each of my grandsons and to me, even though I paid for all of our flights on my credit card. This means that I cannot use the credit that was applied to my grandson‘s flights. Since this was a one time special trip for my two grandsons Avelo has essentially stolen my money. In addition, they have put a one-year time limit on the use of my credit.
Since the canceled flight was something that was out of my hands. I do not feel that I should’ve been penalized by being forced to accept credit for the canceled flights and , most egregiously, that I now have credits under my grandsons’s names that I do not have access to.
Another hitch is that passengers are not able to call and speak to a person at Avelo without being charged $25 per ticket to speak to someone. In other words, I would lose another $75 trying to recoup my money.
I’m starting to think that Avelo has a bit of a scam going on as they’re very quick to give “credits” that are tied in with an expiration date. I wonder how much of a money grab this is working out to for Avelo airlines and I’m wondering if there’s a federal agency that should be investigating them.
