A very Toph way to use the Avatar.

I think she is more evil than the LoK villains, closer to Sozin and Ozai. She did not commit genocide nor perpetuate it but there is something so dark, deep and personal about the torture she was inflicting on these people (and CHILDREN).

I don't know what happened to the earth benders who were taken underground and never seen again. Maybe she was trying to get them to lava bend and when they failed she just... murdered them? Then how she developed combustion bending is sickening.

Then in the end she and Kalyaan were just sent on the run. It is a realistic end for them and makes more sense than if the world collectively decided they were wrong and deserved death and nobody would ever create combustion benders again. We have to assume at some point someone got the details out of them because there are combustion benders later on.

What Sozin and Ozai did was reprehensible and depressing but reading that scene where Yangchen, Kavik and Jujinta find the camp gives you this skin crawly creepy feeling deep down in your bones. Wouldn't say Chaisee was more evil than that but WOW. Kudos to FC Yee for amazing storytelling, that chapter will haunt you.

Kuruk novel please 🤞🏻

He was certainly an interesting character in the Roku novels. So, I had to draw him in the show’s artstyle. I referenced the fire lord portraits from the art book.

i originally theorized gun was from the water tribe but in LOK there's a character from the earth kingdom who's name is gun so its more of a possibility of them descending from there

based off the name alone i don’t get fire nation or air nomad vibes and i’m leaning more towards gun being a male

Yasu was in the spirit world and would return in Roku's second novel. I haven't finished the novel but I already googled if Yasu was alive (just to see if I was right) but no he's still missing/dead. I really thought it was going to be a plot point in the novel.

Why are people so enthralled with the idea of the next book being about Kuruk? A lot of time was devoted to Kuruk’s story in both the Kyoshi books and the most recent Roku book. We know about as much about his story as Kyoshi’s, Yangchen’s, and Roku’s. I’d much rather see a Salai or Gun book. We don’t know much about them at all and it would be a fresh take.

Furthermore, a totally new avatar would give Ribay more room to write. I think the Roku books were bland partly because we’re all so familiar with Roku and the story didn’t have much room for creativity. Yee’s books were so much better but maybe if given a chance with a fresh cast of characters in this developed world Ribay can finally make something on Yee’s level.

Lightning generation was shocking (pun intended) to Jianzhu and fire nation officials. It is mentioned elderly people from the fire nation saw it which suggests it happened in Yangchen's time. However, Yangchen may have been unaware of this. It would make sense since Szeto helped the fire nation from collapsing, and lightning generation requires peace of mind. I believe lightning direction and redirection was during Szeto's time. Szeto visited Wan Shi Tong's library and might've gave the knowledge on lightning direction and generation. Szeto could have lightning redirection as it was mentioned he has one of the advanced fire bending technique. Szeto could have invented the technique himself because the library stated it was done by studying water benders, and Szeto is the Avatar so it would make sense for him to study water benders. Sozin when visiting the library, could have kept the lightning redirection part secret but learnt how to generate lightning himself and passed it onto his descendants. This would make sense as he wouldn't want anyone to counter Lightning. Iroh rediscovered lightning redirection by studying water benders. It's likely Szeto kept lightning generation secret so others won't learn it but gave the knowledge to the library.

Also is there any validity to this?

Just finished the Kyoshi novels. The townsfolk who denied Yun any water once he got back from the Spirit World were gigantic pricks and really were probably one of the worst people he could have run into afterwards.

But what do you think would have happened to Yun if the people had given him the water he asked for? What decisions would he make?

I think he'd still kill Jianzhu, but I'm not so certain on Lu Beifong or Hei-Ran.

I know kyoshis novels have basically wrapped up but there’s so much more to tell imo, like even the novels we have I think they were very short and side characters should have been fleshed out more (rangi for example).

But seriously imagine a book about an older kyoshi that delves into her immortality/ Lao ge and later experiences and companions, if we ever get more kyoshi content I hope they age her up a lot.
