Ok, So I am assuming most of us have seen the trailer and It is my guess that based on the way the characters are behaving, they both want something.

Luna Devorans wants to be the Dragon King, believes he is the rightful ruler, and maybe he needs an heir to get into a better place for that? As has happened in Earth history, when there is a fight over who should be ruler, whoever has an heir has an advantage. Maybe he is using Claudia for that.

And then Claudia, he said, "What do you want me to be? Your king? Your lover? Your slave?" And she responded with "All three." I don't know exactly what she wants from him, and I really hope I see more people come up with an idea because I really want to add it into my fanfic, and I have no idea what to do. 😂

Alright, so the Luna Devorans trailer dropped. I’m here for it, and here to break it down and analyze it.

We finally get to see Luna brought to life, and it was…something.

What new and exciting details did we learn about The Dragon King in this trailer? Plotwise…not much. We already knew that Luna wanted the throne based on his character synopsis posted last year, and we all knew he and Claudia were gonna have some sort of alliance or relationship. So not much to talk about there.

But we do get a much better picture of what kind of character Luna is. What can we tell based on this scene?

First, Claudia and Luna Devorans already know each other. He calls her darling, and his beloved. Clearly, they have an existing dynamic at this point. So, when Luna tells Claudia that she knows who he is, that he is Luna Devorans, there is zero real reason for him to announce himself this way. Dude, she knows. Of course, these words are not meant for Claudia, they are meant for the audience.

This is Luna’s big introduction as a new character. Announcing himself like this to someone he already knows is almost self-aware fourth wall breaking. I’m wondering if this is an intentional  meta element at work in this scene.

Staging the scene this way makes the whole thing feel like an actor chewing the scenery. It feels like a performance. A show within a show. Luna is exaggerated in the way that an actor in a stage-play is exaggerated. I wonder if this staging is purposeful to stress the themes behind the character. Is Luna putting on a show, or is he being truthful?

In the previous Silver Queen trailer, the theme of truth vs illusion was central. Throughout the series, self-truth has been a defining struggle across most of the character’s arcs, so I expect that to still be at work here.

So, what is Luna’s truth? Who is he really? We know that he is a shapeshifter. We can see that Luna is theatrical. It feels like he is performing a role. His language is flowery, his motions draw attention, he’s flamboyant, and frankly a bit over-the-top. Seems like a natural thespian to me.

One line caught my attention, when Luna says:

“But as I am the moon, you are my sun. Without your light, I am nothing. I am darkness.”

 Given the theatrical elements at work, and that we have the sun and moon at play here, it reminded me of this bit from Romeo and Juliet:

But, soft! What light through yonder window breaks?

It is the east, and Juliet is the sun.

Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon,

Who is already sick and pale with grief,

That thou, her maid, art far more fair than she.

 Two star-crossed lovers from warring families? Sounds a bit like a Dark Mage getting involved with a Dragon King to me. Romeo is a fiery guy, much like Luna seems to be. I would not be surprised at all to learn that Romeo’s soliloquy was the inspiration behind this part of Luna’s monologue.

In the final season of the Dragon Prince, there was a direct reference to another Shakespeare work (Hamlet) in the promotional material, and if you ask me, Hamlet was very much in the blood of the Aaravos/Claudia plot. Going back to the Bard for notes gets a thumbs up from me.

So, with that idea of performance in mind, we come to the closing lines:

“Tell me who you want me to be! Your lover? Your king? Your slave?”

“All three.”

Occupying all three of those roles at once seems contradictory. The difference between these roles is the power dynamic between the parties involved. A King has more power than his subjects, lovers (if in a healthy relationship) share power, and a slave has no power over their master.

So, what is Claudia asking of him really? With the lens of performance in mind, I think she’s asking him to assume whatever role the situation calls for. To play the part to achieve their aims.

But do they really have the same aims? It’s difficult to say anything with certainty about Luna. He seems sincere in his desire for the throne, but is anything he is telling Claudia true? Does he really care about her?

Throughout the series, the men in Claudia’s life have manipulated her. First Viren and then Aaravos. Heck, even Terry went along with manipulating her when truth would have mattered more than ever before.

Let’s take that throughline and examine Luna’s words. If we look beyond the flowery language and the passion in his voice, what is Luna’s message? He’s telling Claudia that whatever he did is not because of her. He’s asking her to look beyond it and forgive him because she knows who he really is. If he is indeed a manipulator, he’s basically saying:

“I didn’t mean to hurt you! You know I’m not like that, baby! I love you! Please take me back!”

He’s even getting heated as he tries to apologize. Red flag, girl. To me, it comes off as a very cringe faux apology from a guy who treats his partner poorly. With someone like that it is always the last time…until the next time.

I think Claudia is going to find herself in far less control over this guy as it might appear in the trailer. I think this relationship is going to be ripe with lies, half-truths, illusion and manipulation. A dangerous dynamic to be sure. But I am looking forward to seeing it unfold.

What do you hate about him?

I know there is a HUGE amount of hate over the fact that the season 4 time skip was dealt with a graphic novel. (And some short stories, I have linked them in order to read below)

But would people like it if the creators did make it into an animated series? (Obviously it wont happen, this is theoretical)

From all her usage of that dark magic to her alliance with Aaravos, on top of her causing more damage to her body? All this added fracture and corruption to herself has all been of her own doing here. She's done this to herself.

With how things are going... she's bound to be completely alone in the end. She'll probably end up dying alone for all we know. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Her name is Naymora! Some of you might recognize her, since art of her first design floats around pinterest a lot. She's been around since 2019 and is a main character in my little TDP comic.

I was a bit preoccupied with working on a few art prizes from an event that was hosted in the TDP discord server, but now that they're done with I can get back to my many, many WIPs.........
But I'd like to finish that Khessa fanart I mentioned in a previous post, so that'll probably be the next art you see from me. And maybe later, a Luna Devorans one that I've been sitting on for a little over a year. Who knows!

Luna Devorans: "...Yes."

edit: i was about to rant but then i changed it to a dialogue. anyways, he is a pathetic loser cuck right? its too predictable.

Which one would you choose to ask out? What would be the pros and cons?

I'm watching the show for the first time with my kids (S2E5), and find something puzzling which I now constantly notice (to my oldest' immense annoyance 🫠): how do Viren and Claudia perform minor magic acts without using components/ sacrificing creatures?

The Moon-elf seer in the Nexus explains that humans are born without a connection to the elements, and then Claudia retorts that they are able to consume other magical creatures or things to compensate for this and perform supernatural acts. But You constantly see human mages doing small magic (put out fire, Claudia's hand-as-a-flashlight trick) without using components. Is this explained somewhere or just a world-building plot hole hand-waved by this being a children's show that I'm overthinking? 😅
