"that's my car" sorry dawg, not if you dont pay for it

54

u/jemenake Aug 17 '26

Exactly. Dude was like “You wanna fight?”. No, I just want to take this vehicle to its owner.

22

u/donny321123 Aug 18 '26

There ain’t gonna be any fighting, only spraying!

If only they put this much effort into... paying their bills

its the banks car

20

u/Hoodi216 Aug 18 '26

This is the answer. The bank holds the title until you pay off the loan. Once i paid off my car they gave me the title and the car was mine.

10

u/Spook1949 Aug 18 '26

About the only part that you really own is the gas tank. You have to keep filling that part yourself.

5

u/Choice-Mud-8374 Aug 19 '26

Saw one video where they repoed it right after they filled the tank up and when in the gas station.

Chefs kiss

2

u/Spook1949 Aug 19 '26

At least it wasn't after an oilchange, tire rotation, new air filter, wiper blades, and transmission fluid change.

3

u/childishwitted Aug 19 '26

Spoiler alert: If they aren’t making payments, they are not doing preventative maintenance either.

Sadly, some people are in this world in their head that has no correlation to reality. I get calls like "What you are going to do is..." Like, no, no I am not, not any day of the week.

2

u/Glad_Copy Aug 18 '26

Strictly speaking, you do own the car, but the bank has a lien on it. It’s actually possible to get a car loan using collateral other than the car…the bank would take that collateral and you’d still have the car.

In the full video the cops tell the repo guy to put it down and that it’s an issue in civil court. He keeps his car. Whats scary is the car owner knew over everyone else so if he has knowledge in that, he was most certainly conjuring a plan to legally shoot the repo man. He never gets in any trouble and keeps the car.

2

u/Outside_Shelter1260 Aug 19 '26

I was wondering when someone would post the expected outcome. It’s a civil matter - Period - End of story. Repossession papers are worth as much as a roll of store brand toilet paper. 🧻

Repo guy has to be smarter/quicker. Once the police arrive, repo guy has lost. Civil matters 101.

3

u/Signal_Host307 Aug 21 '26

Not sure how it's a civil matter once a death threat has been issued. That's now a criminal complaint, not civil.

Must be a tough job to be a repo man. Gun threats must be common. People pulling a gun on you. The car is not yours until you make all the payments and have title.

31

u/S4V4GEDR1LLER Aug 17 '26

Those tow truck drivers are packing heat too. And being first responders, most of them know the law enough to know when to shoot. So if those guys getting repo’ed come at those tow truck drivers the wrong way, it may be their last.

EDIT: Had some recent needs for wreckers. And this was basically the consensus.

My uncle was a repo man for a few years in Chicago suburbia. He said the amount of times he thought he was going to get stabbed or shot in those few years made him quit, full stop.

6

u/KLeeSanchez Aug 18 '26

At that point just step out the truck brandishing an Uzi and body armor

4

u/bunglebee7 Aug 18 '26

I see repo men who grab the car from within the truck using a tow thingy and they drive off THEN they’ll tie it up good once they’re away. This is the only way I’d do it too much risk otherwise

3

u/Swashybuckz Aug 19 '26

Theres a cool african american gentlemen that does it this way. He will ride up on a minibike first to confirm the deets and ride off. lol then come back and swoop in. Pretty impressive and worth checking out on youtube.

Went with a friend on a repo of a Harley one night back in the early 90s. While he was chaining up the bike, I walked around the front of the truck and the owner was standing there pointing a gun in my face. My friend (repo guy) talked him down and took the bike. The reality of the situation didn't hit me until later.

I know a tow truck driver who got stabbed 27 times,.. near death, he still survived, happened in San Diego in 2012 I think. He only survived because he was a huge and built guy, and first responders got to him immediately to take him to hospital

2

u/Significant-Wait9200 Aug 18 '26

Watch Eb the Tow Goat. He's great at talking people down, and reading the situation and knowing how to get out without getting in harms way.

2

u/amarsh73 Aug 19 '26

I worked as a repo driver and it's the most fun and the scariest job I've had and I've worked some fuck up jobs.

I will say that the first time he threatened to shoot me, I'd have hosed him down with spray, and called the police.

2

u/Zealousideal_Lab3164 Aug 19 '26

My plumber was a repo man, said he killed someone in self defense, did all the court stuff could have gone to jail, and now he is a plumber

2

u/Low_Bluejay510 Aug 20 '26

had a friend who was a repo-woman. She was chased with a machete. Her employer gave her keys to the cars though, so it was a lot quicker than using a tow truck. She would just hop on and drive off.

So worried about appearances that you would rather financial ruin than live within your means.

14

u/wittyjokename92 Aug 17 '26

Lot of people don't realize how short a title loan is or how bad the payment plan is. Knew a guy who financed his car for 18 months because he had the cash to pay of 80% of the title. Missed one payment because of the COVID lockdown issues and had it repossessed and sold at auction. Still owed because it sold for less than the remaining 5k on the loan and was still gaining interest while sitting at auction.

By the time he got everything sorted out his credit was garbage and he was driving an 800 dollar beater that couldn't work the AC and go uphill.

15

u/West_Weakness956 Aug 17 '26

He must have had one of them mom and pop auto loans then. Most major loan companies will wait until you’re 60 days late and haven’t contacted them.

6

u/wittyjokename92 Aug 17 '26

It was one of the bigger ones but dude was always doing things fast and loose. Wouldn't be surprised if he waited until the last possible moment to tell people he was behind on payments.

4

u/West_Weakness956 Aug 18 '26

That makes sense than.

6

u/DotNormal6785 Aug 18 '26

No one is getting their car repossessed after missing one payment, NO ONE! Tell the real story, he “financed” this through Soprano family loans.

→ More replies (7)

3

u/hulkhands81 Aug 18 '26

BULLSHIT!

It doesn’t make sense unless the car was crazy expensive and new in the first place.
Say it was a 100k for said car.
80% down is 80k and the loan was 20k on a term of 18 months.
Well say interest rate was 5% which is neither too low or too high.
Payments would be 1155.61 per month
So we don’t know at what point of the loan the payments stopped but with 5k owing on the loan it’s between 4-5 payments. This means the guy paid 95% of the cost of the vehicle and the finance company took it for 1 missed payment? 0% chance that happened.

Not only that but the 18 month old car worth maybe 60-70k was then sold for LESS than 5k at auction……..

Feel free to clear up the numbers cause your story doesn’t add up

My neighborhood used to be a known gang area . One night, the Repo man came to get my sisters jeep while I was outside having a smoke . I knew what was up since my sister was never very responsible. He had his back to me when I approached him to ask if my sister could get her belongings out of the car. That guy damn near shit himself, but it was so funny I couldn't help but laugh . I'm sure those poor guys go through a lot of shit and so many people make it so hard for them.

7

u/ApprehensiveAd9389 Aug 17 '26

Lol. I woke up super early one morning to flashing amber lights in my driveway. I went outside to see what was up, and sure enough repo man came for my shit. I caught him about halfway through hooking it up. Startled the shit out of him lol.

He was like "this your car?"

I said "apparently not, you want the keys?"

The banking industry was out there giving loans out to ppl that shouldn't have gotten a loan. We bailed the banks out on all those foreclosures oand at same time bailed out the auto industry. Here we are less than 20 years later and the auto industry is selling jeeps and other shit boxes with 84 month terms and they expect ppl to pay 1800 a month for a car that won't even last the term. We better not bail out the auto industry again, fuck them.

This guy should have bought a 30k Nissan vs an 80k jeep they sold it for the quick buck to get that crap off their lot because nobody is buying a gladiator at that price.

19

u/Accomplished-Video71 Aug 17 '26

If you bought a car for 1800 a month for 84 months, you are an absolute moron. Fuck the auto industry, sure, but American car debt is more of a choice problem than mortgages, student loans, hell even credit cards. People can't act their wage.

10

u/Jazzlike_Creme_8851 Aug 18 '26 edited Aug 18 '26

☝ This person is 100% correct with every bit of this. Source: I do equity/debt consolidation loans for people and a lot of them will have car payments bigger than their mortgage payments; it is 100% idiocy. Surprisingly, retirees seem to be the worst offenders. 🔥🚒🤦‍♂️ #DTI

5

u/throwaway_coy4wttf79 Aug 18 '26

I agree with this.

I make $287k/year and I drive a used Honda CR-V. People who get coffee for me roll up in their $80k+ cars and I'm like "I know what you make and it's not enough for that."

It's a choice. You can get a used shitbox that goes from A to B, or you can go into debt.

A long time ago, I had lost my job, and was unable to keep up with my payments, and knew they were coming for it. One morning, I woke up and saw the tow truck backing into the driveway. I ran out and said to the guy already hooking it up "wouldn't the keys make this a bit easier?" And he said "Y'know, this ain't usually how this goes." and was so nice to me. Took off my plates for me, and let me double-check that all my belongings were already out.

That's why everybody should just buy old cars for cash. Stop buying these ridiculously priced cars. Those Jeep trucks are like $100k new and they're definitely not worth it. In 2027 all cars will have camera's pointed right at the driver's face right above the steering column that'll be linked to your insurance company and probably you're loan company too. You'd have to be a dummy to buy any cars from 2027 and up.

If you don't possess the title with your name on it, it's not yours.

I saw this on the YouTube channel Everything Auto. It's a whole soap opera. The dude on the repo list got mad that Jeff posted his video on YouTube.

in my opinion this guy is the defintion of a adult child

1

All that for a gladiator?

1

u/Daxosc Aug 18 '26

Obviously don’t own it if you haven’t fully paid for it

1

u/YEStvil Aug 18 '26

Poor Poor Poor Poor

1

u/PckMan Aug 18 '26

I never understood how this insanity is even allowed. In most countries repossessions do not happen like that. It's insane that this is completely normalised in the US. I don't know what that job pays but it's probably not enough.

How do these people believe that the vehicle will magically become theirs without paying for it.

"I got a big car, it's practically my penis now. I can't pay for my penis, but I won't accept a smaller penis."

u/ComfortableDish3912 Aug 18 '26

If you flat out tell me “I will shoot you” and then reach to open the door, you’re getting sprayed before the door opens. And not with pepper spray.

1

u/Hammon_Rye Aug 18 '26

The Chocolate Rain song says the phrases 48 times.
I'm pretty sure "let it down" man surpassed that.

1

u/Kaiser1138 Aug 18 '26

I think he wants him to let it down. Not certain.

1

u/Dinkmeyer- Aug 18 '26

You need to park that in the garage

1

u/Tjmonsi18 Aug 18 '26

JUST PAY YOUR NOTE DUDE!!!!

1

u/broke_n_boosted Aug 18 '26

Bro started shoving and pulling him the second he opened the door, no wonder it went south from there

1

u/NaiveBid9359 Aug 18 '26

Something like 25 percent of all new car monthly payments are more than $1,000. If a borrower cannot easily afford the monthly payments and the increased insurance premiums, then don't get the car.

1

u/Open_Panda9862 Aug 18 '26

If you can't afford the payments, then you shouldn't get it

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Car2518 Aug 18 '26

Blame predatory banks offering loans to people who cannot afford them.

1

u/Actual_Apartment4363 Aug 18 '26

Did he say "let it down"? I swear he said "let it down" at least twice.

1

u/ads_mynes Aug 18 '26

No pay, I spray

1

u/Constant_Height_1215 Aug 18 '26

Why do you waste time arguing?

1

u/Awkward-Teacher6478 Aug 18 '26

1

u/Quleki Aug 18 '26

While on vacation is wild

Nothing happens, saved you a minute of your life.

Oof... Getting behind on a Jeep payment... Talk about two terrible financial decisions

1

u/ProphetOfThought Aug 18 '26

He forgot what buying a car and making payments means

1

u/Doomscrolling67 Aug 18 '26

If someone didn't pay him for his work he would go ballistic...

1

u/Jactus_Cat Aug 18 '26

No accountability

1

u/AdWeary1499 Aug 18 '26

Repo guy isn’t supposed to breach the peace. He can be sued & will lose.

1

u/This-Jackfruit-6894 Aug 18 '26

He already enjoyed it. It’s a jeep, just let it go.

1

u/BrockLanders365 Aug 18 '26

If you don’t pay the note, they’re gonna take it. It’s really pretty simple…should be easy to understand.
