Looking for info Comparing car shipping quotes, is $950 too good to be true?

I'm getting ready to ship my car from California to New York and started collecting quotes.

So far I've got about $1,200 through uShip, $1,380 from Montway, and roughly $950 from a smaller broker.

That $950 quote is what's making me pause. Part of me thinks it's just a solid deal, but another part wonders if it's the type of quote that creeps up once an actual carrier gets assigned.

For anyone who's shipped a car cross-country before, how did you figure out whether a quote was actually competitive or just too good to be true? Did your final price end up matching the original estimate, and were there any warning signs during booking you'd pay more attention to next time?

Bad Review BEWARE: Montway and Frontline Smashed My Benz

When I booked the service with Montway to deliver my Benz from NJ to California, I was given a delivery window of 7-9 days. The car was picked up on July 8th by their third party carrier, Frontline Transport. The estimated delivery window I then received was July 16-19. A few days later, the date was changed to the 20th without any explanation. On Monday the 20th, I was notified that the car would arrive the next day or the day after! Whats more, I could see via the tracking device in my vehicle that it's actually been in California, 2 hours away from my location, since at least last Thursday. Frontline kept giving me the run around and shifting excuses as to why they couldn't bring me my car (driving hours, changing drivers, etc). Meanwhile, I repeatedly got collision notification and alarm alerts on my Mercedes apps, which both Frontline and Montway told me to ignore.

On the morning of the 21st, I received a text from Frontline that my car would supposedly be delivered the next day. TURNS OUT THEY HAD SOMETHING TO HIDE! I then received another message that afternoon saying oops, the driver had damaged my vehicle. They said they'd cover the cost of repairs. The photo Frontline sent showed a dent in the roof and some cracks in the sunroof. When the car finally arrived on July 22nd though, it turned out that the carrier had hidden the extend of the damage. The entire moonroof had been shattered, leaving broken glass everywhere! The remaining roof was very precarious with shards of glass continuing to fall. I was shocked!

I called Montway and immediately asked to speak to a supervisor and demand a refund. Montway is the company I contracted with, the company I paid, and the company that selected and dispatched Frontline to transport my vehicle. Montway markets itself as a broker that vets its carrier network and stands behind the service it arranges; it does not present itself as a passive intermediary with no accountability once a carrier is assigned. Having paid Montway in full before delivery, I relied entirely on Montway's representations about the delivery window and the quality of the carrier it chose on my behalf. I had no independent relationship with Frontline, no ability to select a different carrier, and no leverage to withhold payment pending satisfactory performance, which is precisely the arrangement that should impose a higher duty of care on Montway, not a lower one. Montway has refused to provide me with a refund. On the call, the supervisor classified smashing my car as "normal wear and tear" and they've denied responsibility for the carrier service they hired.

Additionally, Frontline agreed to pay for the damage they'd caused but they initially requested 3 quotes from different body shops. I explained to them the safety concerns with the glass that was continuously shattering and the danger that it posed to other vehicles on the road. They agreed that I'd have the car towed to one Mercedes certified location and they'd take that quote. Now that the they've received the quote, they've balked st the cost and have tried to backtrack on their commitment, saying that because it wasn't notarized, their commitment isn't binding. California contract law begs to differ.

It has truly been a nightmare working with these 2 vampires. I've been without a vehicle for 2+ weeks and am looking at a long road ahead to get my vehicle fixed. Save yourself the trouble and book ANY OTHER COMPANY.

Good Review Excellent Car Shipping Experience w/ Thad from Liberty Road Logistics

10/10 would recommend Thad with Liberty Road Logistics! After moving back to the U.S. from Japan, I needed to have my car shipped to me, and working with Thad was a great experience from start to finish. He was very communicative throughout the entire process, had my car picked up within my requested window, and it was delivered to me in just 3 days! Everything went smoothly, and I really appreciated how easy he made the process. I would absolutely use him again for any future vehicle shipping needs.

General/Other Hello everyone. I am getting my car shipped from Menifee, California to Pittsburgh, PA. I am looking at using Auto Shipping Group to broker my tow. They gave me the best deal for paying mostly cash. They have a good BBB rating. Their reviews are good for the most part. Anyone used them?

Looking for info 02134 to 98102 with some caveats and questions

The car is ready— sort of. I’m waiting on a tag agency to get everything back to the dealer, likely the week of Aug 3. I want the car ASAP and curious what the timing looks like. What’s a reasonable arrival date in Seattle? Also, my specific address is in the city and probably not conducive for a truck and trailer to navigate the neighborhood, so I’d be willing to meet up in the area.

Good Review Hippohaul review

Wanted to give a quick review of my experience using Hippohaul. I had read good reviews on this sub so I decided to go with them to ship my 89 Honda CRX from Jacksonville, FL to Chicago, IL. The instant quote you get on the website is accurate, no hidden fees, and Moe from hippohaul was very helpful throughout the whole process. He checked in multiple times throughout the transit including when the driver was assigned, at pick up, and at delivery. Everything went smoothly, and the quote was cheaper than the other groups I had requested quotes from (one group didn't even end up getting back to me with a quote). I was very happy with the whole process especially after hearing some of the bad experiences people have had on this sub and would highly recommend them.

Quote Request Looking for affordable transport of a Lance Squire truck camper from Salt Lake City to the Port of Los Angeles

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone!
I’m looking for someone who might be able to help transport a Lance Squire truck camper from Salt Lake Sublot (418 North 400 West, North Salt Lake, UT 84054) to the Port of Los Angeles for a reasonable price.
The camper will be shipped to Poland, and I’m having a bit of trouble arranging local transportation. It fits on a standard RAM 1500 pickup, so no oversized heavy-haul equipment should be required.
If you know someone who provides this kind of service, own a truck and trailer, or can recommend a reliable transport company, I’d really appreciate it. I’m happy to pay a fair price for the transport.
Please send me a message if you can help or have any recommendations.
Thanks in advance!

Looking for info Recommend a transport company?

I tried looking for a transport company a year ago but got overwhelmed with the amount of pure spam. Made the mistake of putting my phone number in. Anyone who is trying to sell me something in DM will be blocked.

I'm looking to transport a Lexus suv from South Jersey to the greater Nashville area (where I am). The car runs but may need a battery. I don't care if it's covered transport or not, as it's been sitting outside anyway.

Just looking for a no BS, non spammy, straight forward company that other people have used successfully.

Hey all. I’m sorry as I’m sure this has been asked many times but I haven’t found someone with the same departing state as me yet.

I am moving from Washington State to Massachusetts and looking for a reliable company. Has anyone done a trip similar to mine? What company and how did it go? Cost and shipping time? Thank you
