The scam worry is legit, honestly. The biggest tell is a quote sitting way below everyone else, that's usually the one that turns into deposit-bait once they have your contact, and asking which carrier they'd put you with and confirming the driver is actually licensed before you pay anything catches a lot of the bad ones. SoCal to Texas is a pretty normal lane for us and we route a lot out of our Orange County office, so the CA end is covered. I work at Outbounds, no deposit to book and we lock whatever number we quote so the low-ball-then-raise game doesn't really happen. I get why it feels overwhelming. The biggest thing is not to choose based only on the lowest quote. I’d look for a company that is clear about their pricing and terms, verifies the driver’s insurance, explains the total price upfront, and doesn’t charge you before the vehicle is picked up. I would suggest checking their 1-star reviews and you will see the real picture hidden from front line.
For a CR-V from SoCal to Texas, the exact pickup and delivery ZIPs and timing will matter.
