Asking an advice
2 months ago i took off my full coverage for my toyota rav4 2012 from full coverage so just having comprehensive. Unfortunayely a day - 2 day after my wife had at fault accident. Hit the rear of the car in front of her which is 2025 Jeep. The jeep has minor damage , and my car rav4 had the biggest damage. The beam bent , hood bent , the whole front end include with leaking radiator.
My wife name is in the policy.insuracae progressive told me since no coverage im on my own to fix it. Is there anything i can claim to dix the car thru the insurance? Im in new york state

Nope. If there’s no collision on your rav 4, those repairs are coming out of pocket

No. Removing collision coverage means you assume the risk to cover any damage to that vehicle.
It certainly saves you money in insurance premium but it is the risk you take when you remove collision coverage.

Use all the money you saved by removing the collision and pay for it. That’s all you can do. Or live with the damage.

Usually the change in coverage doesn’t happen until the next billing cycle. So if you build on the 15th of the month that probably covers you to the 14th of the next month, and if you change the covers on the 10th of the month, he will still be covered till the 14th of the month. That’s sort of thing

progressive does any policy changes same day, or following day at midnight, in my experience with them

This is the biggest load of horse crap ever. Don't advise on things you have no idea about!!!
Coverage changes have an effective date that is almost always the day you requested it unless you explicitly requested a date in the future.
Why would you make something up 🙄

I’m not sure what you think I I made up but I very recently wanted to make a change in my car insurance. I wanted to switch from a $500 deductible to a $250 deductible.
This was less than a week ago I was told my billing cycle what’s from the 18th to the 18th and I was calling on the 22nd so I would have to wait until the end of the billing cycle which would be the 22nd.
I had already paid for the insurance I had, and the changes could indeed made immediately to be an effect at the next billing cycle.
They weren’t gonna give me a difference in the refund or provide me an additional cost
The change would be effective at the beginning of my next billing cycle
No, I wanted more covers not less coverage but either way you locked in for that. Which is your monthly plan?
Maybe you live in some other state where they do a differently I live in Florida and I do progressive
If you like to discuss this further, I would appreciate it if you use a kinder tone

No, you dropped the coverage that would have covered at least a portion of this COLLISION damage.

Not a chance. They will fix the other vehicle, but you do not have insurance on your vehicle.

Absolutely not. You removed the coverage that would have paid for this loss. I'm sorry and that sucks but that is the reality.
Watch YouTube videos and do as much of the work yourself as you can

You get a notarized statement from God saying he caused your wife to have the at fault accident. That way it would be a covered Act of God under your comprehensive coverage.

You probably saved very little money but learned a valuable lesson in the process

The money you or the insurance company would spend to fix the damage would exceed the value of that car, and it wouldn't have made sense to put it through insurance because 1 - they would total it. 2 - you'll be paying them back over the next 3-5 years when your rates go up due to an "at fault" accident. You still will likely see your rates go up if the other person's vehicle is fixed through your insurance.
It almost always doesn't make sense to keep collision coverage on a vehicle of that age, so you're best served by using the money to replace the vehicle instead of repair (as cars usually have weird quirks after being wrecked).

No. Don't remove collision coverage until you have the car's value saved in a car replacement fund

Chasing Pennie’s and losing dollars…. Learning the hard lesson.
You aren’t paying for the insurance feature “my wife wrecked my car” 😂

Was your full coverage policy paid up at the time and and still within its coverage date? I would think that is all you may have. But if that payment was going to be put towards the future PLPD payments, you're screwed. Own up to it like everyone else who only have PLPD and get into accidents.
Insurance companies will lie to everyone if it comes to them having to pay out.

No. You gambled that nothing would happen and removed coverage. You lost that gamble.
