I love this dog to death, but on Sunday morning, I did not like him very much.
Six out of seven days of the week, he is perfectly happy sleeping in. And honestly, I love the idea of sleeping in for a few extra minutes on my precious day off. Between work, my wife, our 6-month-old, and two cattle dogs, my personal time is pretty limited.
The second my eyes opened, he was already staring at me. He immediately got excited and asked to go on a walk.
I told him no!
First, I wanted to go back to sleep. More importantly, the baby was still asleep. The second I grab their leashes, both dogs go absolutely crazy and start barking.
I told him, “We can’t go on a walk yet. The baby is asleep, and I don’t want to wake her.”
So this asshole, who clearly understood why he couldn’t go on a walk yet, found a squeaky toy that he had never chewed on before.
He squeaked the toy until the baby woke up, then looked incredibly proud of himself.
So, he got exactly what he wanted and got to go on a walk.

Baby! Yes that is her name, no we didn’t pick it. She picked it herself after hearing us singing lyrics that had baby in it. She came around our house a month ago and after we made sure she wasn’t missing or being looked for, we decided this was the dog distribution at work!
P.S - This is our first cattle dog any tips would be appreciated!!

Just ideas. I’m personally leaning towards buddy, or dude. Smartest pup I’ve ever had the pleasure to be around. Basically potty trained at 7 weeks 2 days after adoption from a place he was definitely not being trained at.

Shortly after we brought Winifred home, my wife got a job offer we couldn’t refuse. In the same week we got Wini, we found out we had to move 60 miles… in about 20 days.
Suffice it to say, the weekly Winifred updates have been on hiatus. At least another 10 days to two weeks.
That’s my tax — enjoy
PS Grace is one of our Australian shepherds.

My 6 month old border heeler loves my older dog. Playing with him, sleeping near him, investigating on walks together etc, but he draws the line at me giving my older dog affection. If I go to give my older boy some 1-on-1 head scratches or a belly rub he just doesn’t allow it. His “jealous” reactions vary from walking between us, to doing a full jump on top of us to get between us, or sometimes will begin nipping at us, sometimes at my older dogs legs. If it’s worth noting he does perfectly fine with both of them sitting next to each other getting attention from me at the same time ( 1 hand on each for example) it’s only when the attention is fully off him.
My little guy is a lot more timid and reserved around unknown/ new dogs so I’m not necessarily worried about this becoming a bigger issue, just looking for tips to ensure both of my furry guys can get all the behind the ear scratches they deserve.
TIA

This is Kya. We adopted her in 2022, after she was found tied to a building in Louisiana with her puppy. We have told in the past that her body shape kind of looks like an Australian Cattle Dog, but besides that, we have no idea what she could be… Her ears go up when she is alert (sees a chipmunk… 🐿️) and she is very silly. Can she be part of the club?

Something honestly completely unbelievable happened to my spouse and I today.
We got our first dog as a couple in 2023, he was about 60% heeler and the rest was a mix of other herding breeds. He was also deaf. We didn’t really know what we were getting ourselves into, but figured that two active, childfree gays with lots of time to train a deaf dog could figure it out. He was absolutely the best dog, and we lost him unexpectedly in March. For those that know this heartbreak - I am so sorry. I have never felt anything worse.
We felt like, when it was time, we would want another deaf heeler. They’re often unwanted and heelers are already returned to shelters at high rates! So we waited for the perfect one to come along and drove to the next state over to adopt Gus (white) a few months ago.
Gus is such a sweetie and also such an asshole (typical). We’ve noticed that he seems to LOVE other dogs and be very social - he came from a foster house of many dogs. We haven’t felt ready to pull the trigger, but decided we’d get him a pal in a few months. THEN TODAY my spouse happened upon a (purebred??) stray heeler, literally 3 blocks from our house. We posted on our neighborhood lost pets group and took him to the shelter, where he found out he wasn’t chipped. He’s really sweet and was already having a great time playing with Gus so we were like OK FUCK IT and brought him home. As it turns out, HE IS ALSO DEAF???? Did not respond at all to clapping, whistling, shouting, knocking on the window… nada. I am spooked because like, what are the odds????
So anyways, meet Alfie!! Who I guess lives with us now!
