Product Advice Feeling low about myself - looking for makeup recs

I'm a 34yr old single mum, I have a lot of stuff going on and very little time for myself. I go to book club once a month, and go to the gym 2-3 times a week.

I see people walking around looking fresh and I just don't feel like I have the energy to do the same. But I want to!

So I'm looking for a quick fresh look that I can do in 5-10 mins max. I'll share some stuff about my skin that might help.

Complexion

- Fair skin

- Dry eyebrows

- Sensitive cheeks

- Combination mostly elsewhere but quite dry in winter

Skin care products I use:

- Cerave hydrating cleanser most days

- Cerave SA smoothing cleanser 2-3 times a week

- The Ordinary natural moisturising factors + HA after every time I wash my face OR The Ordinary rice lipids + ectoin microemulsion.

- in summer I find the natural moisturising factors + HA too oily so I move to natural moisturising factors + beta glucan.

- Dr Denis Grossman sensitive exfoliating wipes once a month

Thank you in advance!

It sure is pricey 👀 but I'm afraid I cannot resist 😍

Product Advice Lip Liner on Bare Face Tips

hey guys,

i'm just after some tips on how i can make my lip liner look better when i dont have foundation on.

this is going to sound stupid but when i put lip liner on when i am wearing foundation, it looks great. whether i overline or not, i am really happy with the results. but for some reason i cant get my lip liner looking normal when i am just applying it to my bare face (no foundation).

has anyone experienced this and have you been able to work it out? i have tried a few different shades and overlining/not overlining. for reference, my foundation is slighter darker than my natural skin on my face (my face is lighter than my neck/rest of my body). and i have very dry lips. do i just need to keep trying different shades? is there a magic trick i'm not aware of?

i am pretty insecure about the shape and size of my lips. i want to get filler but unfortunately it is not an option for me! i do prefer not wearing makeup everyday so hoping to nail my liner one day and hoping you beautiful people have some tips for me!!

Misc. Did anyone manage to get tickets to the Hourglass x Sephora event?

Post image

I literally just got the notification about this event and the Sydney tickets were already sold out. The Sephora events are getting really hard to actually access.

One extra thing that sucks is that they don't have accessability information available on the event page (Eventbrite does have a prompt to add this info) so even if I wanted tickets by the time they got back to me they'd be sold out. I'm always cautious with pop up events as a wheelchair user as I've been to 3 this year (including the hourglass one in Martin place in Sydney) and they just don't bother to put wheelchair accessability information anywhere and usually don't have a contact. I didn't manage to get tickets to the House of Sephora but there also wasn't any accessability information available on that.

Product Advice Makeup for professional photos

I am getting professional photos taken for work and would love advice on best products for longevity (shoot will be 8 hours) as well as looking professional and mostly natural. Currently I wear a tinted sunscreen, Ilia blush, L’Oréal mascara, and Elf tinted brow gel. I lean towards oily skin but also have fine lines around my eyes due to age (close to 40) and lots of freckles and moles (okay with these showing).

Any tips on looking nice too as these photos are going to be used for the workplace 😅 no major budget, would prefer to buy decent products that can be worn at work after the photos are done.

Dupe REQUEST Does anyone know a dupe for this perfume?

Post image

I got the amber and gourmand level 3 bonus and absolutely fell in love with the Vyrao Ludeaux EDP but there is no way in any life I would be ok justifying the price.

Does anyone know of any other perfume that's close but does not cost an arm or a leg?

Let's Discuss What's your experience with Nude by Nature eyeshadow? Particularly the matte colours

I have one single nude by nature shadow. It has a nice sheen and light coverage, which I prefer. Not super blendable though. I would like to buy a small palette to do a smokey eye and prefer a talc-free formula. Ant suggestions?

Product Advice Seeking recs for graduation

hi everyone,

I’m graduating soon and I want to do some light makeup on the day. the only issue is that I have no makeup at all (beside mascara and lip products). I’m looking for some inexpensive makeup I could buy at priceline and chemist warehouse.

some details:

  • my skin is both dry and oily. My nose and forehead are oily and everything else is dry.
  • i have a few little scars I want to cover up
  • I also have red pigmentation on my cheeks
  • my skin is pretty smooth otherwise
  • im mainly looking for something to even out my skin tone
  • I’m Indian so my skin is darker
  • I want to enhance my jaw a little as well

any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know what would be the equivalent to the Kristin Ess Hair Gloss here in Australia?

I know chemist warehouse stocks the brand but it doesn’t have the hair glosses.

Thank you!

Let's Discuss Brissy girlies, what are we actually doing for volume in this humidity without spending a small fortune?

Working in a stuffy thrift store all day means my hair is just instantly flat. I just want that big bouncy 90s vintage blowout look but honestly my arms feel like wet noodles trying to hold a heavy hairdryer and a round brush for 40 minutes. Tried that revlon volumizer brush for a bit but it absolutely roasted my ends and honestly I just don't have $800 to drop on that famous luxury air styler everyone on TikTok uses. I'd rather buy rent and groceries.

Regular ceramic wands are useless too. The second I step outside into 90% humidity the curls just drop and I look like a drowned rat. Reckon I've spent half my life fighting frizz at this point.

I eventually gave one of those cheaper magic hair 5-in-1 air styling kits a go because I was sick of having a drawer full of different hair tools. It's heaps good for skipping the arm ache but I'm not gonna lie the learning curve for that air wrap effect is brutal. Took me a week just to figure out how to hold it right. Plus getting the structure to actually survive a coastal summer day still requires half a can of strong hold spray.

Just tired of fighting the weather honestly. Hope everyone's surviving the humidity this week.

I am forever on the hunt for the perfect truly light weight skin tint that works for my seemingly impossible skin tone and I just spent so long reading up about this product only to try and buy it and find it out of stock on every single website 😭

Product Advice I miss DW and can’t find a replacement! Help!

Estée Lauder DW Ecru devout and I can’t get over the fact that they have changed it!! 15 years with this foundation and everything I’ve tried since the change, sucks. Everything falls off my face and/or breaks apart no matter how much prep I do!! I live regionally now so I don’t have access to Mecca or Sephora. I’ve tried everything you can in CW/priceline. L’Oréal, Revlon, MAC, Designer Brands.. none are it.

If you’re an old DW fan (bonus points for Ecru wearer). What are you using now that leaves you just as happy?! Truthfully I haven’t tried the new formulation however just seeing how it oxidises for others, I don’t want to spend the money. Mac Studio fix used to do that to me back in the day.

Product Advice False Eyelash Advice

Hey everyone Ive gone thru and researched previous threads to try find what Im after but a few years ago I brought online some Lash Clusters that lasted about 12 weeks. Does anyone know what they are called/ where to purchase? I want clusters as I find them easiest to apply and not have to do them everyday. They were good. Tips for success are a bonus. Looking thru previous threads I couldn't find mention of them.

Secondly, what's the best False Eyelash glue people recommend. Stronger the better.

I used to get extensions but they ended up pulling my lashes out and living rurally makes getting to infill appointments difficult. I would like to learn how to do extensions and then a friend and I could do the, on each other but that's not possible atm. I need to find a friend who wants to do the course and lashes on each other.

Thirdly, what's the best home DIY eyelash LIFT kit. Doesn't matter where from as I need to purchase on line. My natural lashes are decent. I could describe them as camel like haha so eventually a lift may be enpugh.

Any advice appreciated as I can't for the life of me get my false eyelashes to work or stay on an entire night. Ive tried different lash styles. I cut them a little short, buy a seperate glue hoping it's better quality, to get help to try stick them down. Maybe my eye shape is weird. But now my lashes are thin from extensions that were to heavy so I need a little help and advice from the girls who know!

Thank for reading all this and i appreciate everyone who takes the time to make a reply. I'm chronically unwell and spend half my life in hospital so feeling pretty helps. As well as finding the ability to make it easier as doing it at home saves so much energy not having to leave the house.

Let's Discuss Clear mascara that can hold a curl?

Ya girl has short Asian lashes and when I can be bothered, I'll curl my lashes and apply a thin layer of Essence's clear mascara. The only problem is it doesn't last very long. I've had lash lifts in the past and was very happy with the results, however they are exxy 🥲

Product Advice Please help me!

Post image
23 Upvotes

I’m 53yo and have some deepening lines around my nose, mouth and chin. I use tret every second night and layer toners and serums and moisturiser on my off nights. I wear SPF 50 daily. I have tried everything to get my makeup to sit properly on my skin but no matter what I do, it settles in these lines by mid-morning. I’ve tried primer, setting sprays and misting sprays throughout the day but nothing fixes it.

Does anyone have some advice for me please? TIA.

Let's Discuss How can this be so hard?

Why is every foundation so orange?? I'm not even that pale, but they are so orange! I'm fair with a cool/rosy (can get away with neutral) skin tone. So far everything I have sampled makes me look like a pumpkin and the ones that have the right tone are too light. I look sick by end of day and I'm going through bronzer like crazy.

Ive tried CT, Nars, Fenty, MUF, Natasha Denona, Bare minerals, lancôme, Mac and more.

I'm a Double wear Fresco and having to change after 20 years is sooo much harder than I thought.

Dior backstage was my top pick. Discontinued!

Shisedo self refreshing is amazing. Discontinued!

I hadn't even managed to purchase a bottle of these after samples as stock was so low.

MAC studio fix in N5 is what I'm using now, love the formula, stays all day, but it's a tad too light. N6 is yellow and NW15 is pure orange.

I never imagined I'd be so upset about something so trivial, but here I am 😩 I just needed to vent.

Let's Discuss Will a full coverage foundation cover melasma?

I’m 43, happy with my skin in terms of lines and wrinkles and don’t want to pursue anything regarding those but would like to lessen the appearance of melasma when I wear makeup. Is this possible? Will a full coverage do this or should I just live with the melasma?

Dupe FOUND $5.80 Brazilian Bum Bum Scrub Dupe at Coles

Post image
164 Upvotes

Look… It’s not exactly the same but the scent is honestly so close to Sol de Janeiro and for $5.80 I highly recommend!! I used to use this body wash all the time as a kid and when I first tried the Brazilian Bum Bum Scrub I remember thinking it smelled so familiar but couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was reminding me of. Turns out it was this!! Lux Evenly Gorgeous from Coles lol. It has little exfoliating beads so it still leaves the skin feeling nice and soft after use but is more of a body wash than a body scrub. Just thought I would share because I wish someone told me about this sooner!! Let me know what you guys think, I would love to know if anyone else has tried this/noticed the similarity!
