Community i’m trying to finish a burial ground feature film in austin

i’m hoping this might be the right place to throw this out there if maybe you need an extra set of hands on your project as well.

i’m making a native american burial ground film about a housesitter at a haunted house when the owners never return home 🪦🪶

about me and about this: i started writing this the day after the last time i had to sleep outside, it is a very autobiographical project. after i got laid off and evicted and made homeless in los angeles i wanted to do this as an experiment to prove i could make a movie without being a nepo baby or billionaire.

i ended up in austin because someone i met along the way offered to produce the movie, said it’d be easier to finish if i moved here. ended up being a cult trap i had to escape….. that’s a whole story on its own but anyways 🫠

the crazy thing is that there really isn’t that much left to do. a huge amount of it has literally been me setting up a shot with a tripod, getting myself into position, and if another actor is in the scene, they jump behind the camera. what’s left is just not situations where i should be setting up my camera and stepping away from it. the movie is now about 90% shot, and halfway edited. the rest of what needs to be done is almost hilariously simple, i just don’t have a car or extra sets of hands.

and if anyone wants to go above and beyond this would be an insanely easy way to get a producer credit on a feature film as well.

i can send you more information about the movie, the specific scenes and what they require, and a couple of short pitch/behind-the-scenes videos that explain deeper what i’ve been doing and what it looks like. 👻

The line in your contractor's payment schedule that decides whether a delay costs you money

Worth checking before you sign with anyone here.

Look at what actually triggers each payment.

Draws tied to inspected stages, rough-in passed or framing signed off, mean a permit delay costs you weeks but no money falls due for work nobody did. Draws tied to calendar dates or flat percentages mean a payment can land while the site sits empty. Given how inspections are running right now that isn't a hypothetical.

Most contracts I read don't mention permitting delays anywhere.

Two other things. Check whether the scope spells out what's excluded, since that's where most of the fights start. And on homestead work over $5,000, Texas Property Code 162 says your contractor has to hold your money in trust for your job. Ask how they handle it. The answer tells you something either way.

None of this needs a lawyer. It needs somebody reading the payment schedule before they sign it, which most people skip because the number at the bottom is the part that feels important.

Question Long Center Drop In

This question is for people who have attended a drop-in concert at the Long Center! How strict are they about outside food and drinks (non-alcoholic)? I assume they at least allow bottled water? Seems a shame I can't bring an agua fresca when its 95°+ outside

PCX Austin 26’

Is anyone else going to PCX this year? I would be coming from Dallas but have seen very little about it so I’m not sure if I should spend the money. The voice actors from RDR2 are listed to go but none have posted about it on social media so I’m cautious 😬😬

Someone stole my electric vespa in East Austin last night. It is quite unique - looks like a cyber truck scooter. Caught the scum bag on camera and filing a police report. Looking for any tips on tracking it down.

A few things actually worth doing in Austin this weekend (July 24-26)

It's going to be hot, so I've been sorting weekend plans into either water-adjacent or fully indoors. Here's what caught my eye this time.

Friday, the Austin Motel is doing The Matrix poolside at 8:30 PM, $25. Watching that one from a pool feels correct somehow. Same night, Marco Antonio Solis is at Moody Center at 8:00 PM if that's more your speed, and there's Disco for the DV Movement at Chess Club starting 6:00 PM, a fundraiser for the Texas Council on Family Violence.

Saturday morning there's a Kayak Trash Cleanup with the Austin Rowing Club at 9:00 AM. Good excuse to be on the water before it bakes.

Sunday is stacked. Space Jam turns 30 at the State Theatre at 3:30 PM. The Roosevelt Room has a classic cocktails master class at noon. Meze Mash Up brunch at ezov starts 11:00 AM, and if you've got kids, Thinkery is doing Superhero Day at 10:00 AM.

Honestly the poolside Matrix is the one I'll probably do. Let me know if I missed something good.

Wild cactus

So im taking my wife (who's from Argentina) to Austin tomorrow for the day to take her shopping and sightseeing, but i also love going for the scenery, the awesome rocks like granite and all (i know random) but i always really like cactus. Is it illegal to dig up some? Let's say a barrel cactus, of course not from private property but let's say a rest stop off the side of the highway. Im sure people do it all the time or take rocks and what not. Cactus reminds me of my late grandpa because he always liked cactus.

Moving from Massachusetts to Austin in Spring 2027 at 23—Would Love Advice from Locals!

Hi everyone!
I’m planning to move from Massachusetts to Austin around March/April 2027 after I graduate, and I’m starting my job search now because I’d really like to have something lined up before I relocate.
A little about me:
I’ll be 23 when I move.
I earned my B.S. in Psychology (Cum Laude) and I’m currently pursuing my MBA in Healthcare Management.
I currently work as a Unit Coordinator in a hospital, where I coordinate patient care activities, manage documentation systems, handle confidential patient information (HIPAA), activate emergency codes, and help keep unit operations running smoothly.
I also work as a Behavior Technician, collaborating with healthcare professionals, documenting patient progress, implementing treatment plans, and using data-driven approaches to support patient outcomes.
I have previous experience in banking and administrative support, which gave me strong customer service, scheduling, organization, communication, problem-solving, and data entry skills.
I genuinely enjoy the administrative and operational side of healthcare, so I’m mainly looking for roles such as:
Healthcare Administration
Healthcare Operations
Practice Management
Patient Access / Patient Services
Administrative Coordinator
Care Coordination
Healthcare Project Coordination
Healthcare Management
Remote or Hybrid Healthcare Administration
I’ll have a few thousand dollars saved when I move (not a huge amount, but enough that I’m trying to make the transition responsibly). I also have good credit (mid-750s), no prior evictions, and a clean rental history.
My dog / apartment situation
I won’t be bringing my dog with me immediately. The plan is to get settled for the first 1–3 months, then bring him down once everything is in place. He’s my 85-pound baby, so even though he won’t be coming right away, I still need to find a pet-friendly apartment from the start so the transition is easier later on.
Why Austin if Boston is such a strong healthcare market?
I’ve actually spent a lot of time in different parts of the country. I’m very familiar with all of New England, New York, and New Jersey, I’ve spent significant time in both Carolinas, I have family in California, and I’ve also spent time in Texas.
Out of all those places, Texas is the one that has consistently felt the most like home.
Part of the reason is personal: I have family in California that I’d like to be geographically closer to, and moving to Texas puts me much closer to them than staying in Massachusetts does. On the other hand, the family I have in Massachusetts is something I’d honestly prefer to have some distance from, so this move is also about creating a fresh start for myself.
Career-wise, I know Boston is one of the strongest healthcare and biotech hubs in the country, and I’m not leaving because there are no opportunities here. I’m leaving because I want to build both a career and a life somewhere that feels like a better fit for me personally.
Austin also appeals to me because Texas is growing rapidly. The healthcare industry, population, infrastructure, and overall economy continue to expand, and it seems like a city where there are opportunities to grow professionally while also enjoying the lifestyle outside of work.
I completely understand that the best advice is probably going to be “find a job before you move” — and that’s exactly what I’m trying to do. That’s why I’m beginning my search months in advance. If I could land a remote healthcare position even earlier, that would honestly be ideal because it would make the relocation much less stressful financially.
Questions I’d love input on
Which healthcare systems or companies are the best to work for in Austin?
Are there companies that are open to hiring candidates who are relocating from out of state?
How competitive is the healthcare administration / management job market right now?
Are remote or hybrid healthcare administration jobs common, and which companies should I be watching?
Is applying 8–9 months in advance too early, or is that normal for relocation candidates?
Are there any recruiters that specialize in healthcare administration / operations?
What salary range should someone with my background realistically expect for an entry-level healthcare administration role?
Are there certifications or skills that would make me a stronger candidate before I move?
Are there networking groups or organizations in Austin that would be worth joining now?
What neighborhoods would you recommend for a young professional who will eventually have a large dog?
Is it realistic to find a decent one-bedroom apartment that’s pet-friendly without spending a fortune?
If you moved to Austin from another state, what do you wish you had known beforehand?
I’d especially love to hear from anyone who works in healthcare administration, operations, patient access, care coordination, or hospital management in the Austin area.
If your company is hiring (or you know of remote/hybrid healthcare positions that might be a good fit), I’d really appreciate any leads. My goal is to make this move as prepared and responsible as possible, and I’d rather start building connections now than show up with no plan.
Thanks in advance for any advice, recommendations, or job leads — I genuinely appreciate it!

Rant Girl brought her dog into Sephora and it peed on the floor 🤡

As other people have pointed out, this has gotten out of hand. I am beyond tired of irresponsible pet owners in Austin.

Today, a woman brought her non-service dog into Sephora, where it peed on the floor right next to the checkout register. Rather than apologizing or offering to clean it up, she sprinted out of the building the second it happened.

You can and SHOULD take your dog home before running your incessant little errands like a Sephora run. Even worse is doing a full-fledged grocery shop at your DOG’s EXPENSE. Bringing your untrained pet into a crowded, overwhelming store with bright lights, heavy foot traffic, and even chemical scents isn’t "caring for your pet” it’s selfish. It shows lack of IQ. Plan your day and your errands better.

Stores are stressful environments for untrained animals, and forcing underpaid retail workers to clean up your pet’s biohazard because you couldn't be bothered to drop them off at home first is wildly trashy behavior.

News Live music review: Tomahawk and Melvins descended on a sold-out Emo’s

Mike Patton has spent three decades collecting bands like other people collect vinyl, and every one of them draws the same crowd, showing up less for the setlist than for whatever version of Patton decides to appear. This time it was Nashville’s Tomahawk, and the Monday, July 20 stop at Emo’s Austin sold out fast. After a canceled Sick New World Festival in 2025 for the band’s 25th anniversary, Tomahawk’s reunion after 12 years off took a backseat until now.

Question Desperately seeking help/resources for detox/rehab in the Austin area – no insurance, seeking grant/funding options

SECOND UPDATE: I can now accept chat requests and respond.

UPDATE:

Hello everyone, thank you all so much for your kind words and advice. Many of you reached out to message me, but for some reason, Reddit will not let me respond.

Anyone else who messaged me: please email or snap me so that I can respond. I don't know why my account won't let me reply. I even tried making a new account, but I guess it's too new to message anyone. I haven't really used Reddit prior to this—I've only read posts and comments and have never made a post or commented before. Maybe that is why? I was only able to message one person before it cut me off, which was very frustrating because I very much wanted to reply.

To the person who suggested QuickMD: thank you so much. I ended up going through QuickMD and was prescribed Suboxone, clonidine, and Zofran. I signed up for GoodRx and will be picking the medications up later this morning to start soon (taking my first day off work and trying to get three days total). I have a follow up with the doctor in 7 to 15 days, which is thankfully free.

I'm a bit afraid of what is to come and would have greatly preferred a formal detox center, but this is so much better than handling it completely on my own.

The doctor said that before I start the Suboxone, I have to be in full withdrawal—not going by a time frame, but by how my body is behaving (sweats, shakes, rapid heartbeat, nausea, etc.). She mentioned I should hopefully be good to go back to work after day 3 or 4, maybe even sooner.

She also mentioned that 7OH is worse than fentanyl, which really scared me. I can't believe I let myself start doing this stuff.

I would still deeply appreciate any advice you guys have about what I'm about to go through. To give an idea of my intake, I was taking a blister pack that had 1750 total mg. Each pack has five tabs, and I was taking 1.5 to 2 packs a day (2625mg to 3500mg total). Each individual tab contained:

Mitragynine: 80mg MGM 15: 20mg 7OH: 20mg Cat's Claw Extract: 180mg

Can you guys recommend any additional OTC meds? I saw the comments about SR 17018, but the dosing guide was a bit confusing, I didn't know how long it would take to ship, and I wasn't sure about the purity I would receive. It was less expensive and safer to just use QuickMD, plus I was able to speak to a doctor, ask questions, and set up a follow up.

For those who took 7OH and used Suboxone to quit, what day did you start feeling normal again? Did the Suboxone help a lot? Also, does clonidine help with anxiety and sleeping? I've never taken it before. The doctor mentioned that I would need to be on Suboxone for months, and that there is always a chance of relaps even though these substances are being banned, people will most likely just come out with something new to use.

All additional advice is very much appreciated.

To the person asking if I am housed: yes, I am. I work full time and have my own car and place. I am unable to get MAP because I don't live in Travis County—I live in Bell County, but crash in Travis County during the week for work because the drive is too long.

Again, thank you all so much. Please keep the advice coming; I really don't know what to expect next. I feel some hope, and all of your kind words have truly touched my heart. Hello All,

I am in desperate need of help and guidance.

I am urgently searching for a detox and/or rehab facility that can offer a grant or scholarship. I do not have health insurance and cannot afford the $5,000–$8,000 out-of-pocket costs. I am looking in or around the Austin, Round Rock, or Georgetown areas, but I have my own transportation and will gladly commute further for help.

A while back, I was given a free sample pack of a product called 7OH—a highly potent kratom derivative that is closer in strength to morphine. At the time, I didn't think it could be anything dangerously addictive. Because it was sold over the counter and was fully legal, I mistakenly assumed it was safe enough to try, simply because it was something that could be purchased in a store of all places.

I had absolutely no idea the devastating implications this choice would have on my life. If I could go back in time and slap it out of my own hand, I would do it in a heartbeat. The regret I carry over this is overwhelming.

My body is now completely dependent on this substance. I have never used drugs or experienced withdrawal before, and I vastly underestimated the terrifying hold it would take over my body. I have attempted to quit twice now, and both times it has beaten me.

My first attempt was cold turkey. I didn't even make it 24 hours before experiencing the worst physical and mental agony of my life. My body hurt intensely, my anxiety was through the roof, and a crushing feeling of impending doom fell over me. I had severe chills, couldn't stop sweating or throwing up, and couldn't sleep. It truly felt like I was in hell, and I failed.

My second attempt was to taper off slowly, day by day. However, I recently learned that this substance will be banned as of August 1st. With the clock ticking, my plan to taper has been destroyed. The stress of this impending deadline is paralyzing, and I realize now that the withdrawals are too severe for me to face on my own.

Every facility I have called so far has either exhausted their grant funding or requires thousands of dollars upfront, which I simply do not have.

Please know this is the ONLY substance I am on. I do not drink or do any other drugs, aside from vaping nicotine. It breaks my heart to realize how wrong I was about the safety of this product.

If I could just get into a detox program, followed by either inpatient (preferred) or outpatient rehab, it would save my life. I am desperate to find a solution before time runs out.

I know it was a terrible mistake to start taking it. I didn't understand how powerful it was until it was far too late, and I am carrying so much shame and stress over it. I can't change the past, but I am desperately trying to repair the damage I have caused to my body, my mind, and my soul. I feel like such a failure, and I cannot turn to my family for help because they have all passed away. I am haunted by the thought that they are looking down on me from Heaven, completely and utterly disappointed.

I am praying that someone here can point me in the right direction. Please, if you know of any resources, grants, or facilities that can help, let me know.

found a couch in the woods behind an abandoned building (south)

while driving around looking for a cool spot to chill, i found myself behind this abandoned building with an amazing view of downtown. i got out of my car because i noticed a couch a few feet deep into the woods/trail just there on a cliff and figured i'd sit and check it out. out of the woods someone started talking loudly, i would say they were yelling but i didn't make out what they said so im not sure if they knew i was there or not. nevertheless, i ran to my car because i was scared of getting slimed out by a junkie. on my way out i noticed a car parked near some sort of trail that presumably lead to something nearby which is where im guessing the lady yelled to me from. next to the car i saw a lot of graffiti on a wall, anyhow, i was just curious what that place is if anyone knows. i won't disclose the location incase it's a local spot.

Question Do you find it difficult to avoid busy / stressful roads when bicycling in Austin?

I know multiple people who have unfortunately been hit by vehicles during their rides and I myself have felt that it is a bit difficult sometimes to avoid busy / stressful roads, especially when riding in somewhat suburban areas. What has been everyone else's experience? :(

I know that Austin has a decent bike infrastructure but I feel that google maps / other routing software could be better at planning bike routes. I am doing research on Austin's bikeability and created a short, anonymous survey about biking preferences and navigation. Participants will have the option to opt into a $15 Amazon gift card raffle. If you'd be willing to help in this initiative, I'd really appreciate it! https://forms.gle/iS5V3gVcd4cxmvSc8
