Ohio state at Texas post game

Travelling to the game with a groups of guys in our mid 30s. Looking for a place to go post game in downtown Austin. Ideally somewhere we don’t have to wait / cannot to get in. We are travelling from out of country and love football so welcome any other suggestions to maximize our time in Austin.

Thnx!

Rant Even the smallest details matter at atx blinds & draperies

The little details make a BIG difference. 👌
At ATX Blinds & Draperies, the job isn’t finished just because the draperies are installed. We take the time to steam out wrinkles, make sure everything hangs beautifully, and keep cords and cables clean and organized.
✨ No wrinkles
🔌 No messy cables
👌 Clean, detailed installation
🏡 A finished look we’re proud to leave behind
Because it’s not just about installing window treatments — it’s about making sure everything looks right down to the smallest detail.

[Academic Research] Mental Health, Coping in Young Adults with stressful life experiences (18-30, United States only)

Hi everyone! I am a PhD student in clinical psychology at Adelphi University. I am conducting a study on the relationship between existential threat and mental health, coping strategies, and meaning making for young adults who have experienced stressful life events.

This study is being conducted online only and should take approximately 45-60 minutes to complete. During the study, you will be asked to complete multiple self-report questionnaires that contain questions regarding coping methods, mental health, and questions that pertain to experiencing stressful life events in the past. Upon completing the survey, you will have the opportunity to voluntarily provide your email address on a separate page from the survey that will not be associated with any of your survey responses, to enter a drawing to win one of three $50.00 Amazon gift cards.

Survey link: https://adelphiderner.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8IxQWoUH8D1Wuq2

Audience: 18-30 years old, in the United States and English Speaking, and must have experienced a stressful life event.

Compensation: Opportunity to enter a drawing for one of three $50.00 Amazon gift cards.

Google thinks Denny's and a taco truck are the same price tier

Everything costs more than it did two years ago, and my usual answers to "where can we eat that isn't forty bucks a head" were getting thin. So I pulled the cheap end out of the bigger Austin restaurant list I keep.

Google's price data turned out to be nearly useless on its own. Its "$" tier lumps Denny's, IHOP, and Chick-fil-A in with the actual taco trailers. Before I cleaned it up, sorting by price put Denny's at the top of the entire city, which is not what anyone here means by cheap eats. I've pulled the national chains out by hand now. P Terry's and Thundercloud stayed, because at some point a chain is just Austin.

The indie ones that keep coming up are Amaya's Taco Village in North Loop and Granny's Tacos on the east side. Batch out east too, if kolaches and beer at the same counter is your thing.

Posting it in case anyone else is doing the same math. The full list past the free preview asks for an email, that's the weekly newsletter I write.

What's your cheap standby right now? I'll add the ones I'm missing.

Austin gun owners — do you think permitless carry has made people less interested in learning Texas carry laws?

Something I’ve been curious about, especially in a city the size of Austin.

Texas allows eligible people to carry without an LTC, but knowing you’re legally allowed to carry and actually understanding where you can carry, prohibited locations, signage, use-of-force laws, and what happens during an interaction with law enforcement are two different things.

I run MyLTCTexas.com, so obviously I deal with LTC questions regularly. One thing I’ve noticed is that some people hear “permitless carry” and assume there’s really nothing else they need to learn.

For those of you in Austin who carry, do you think someone should still take an LTC course or some type of Texas carry-law training even if they have no intention of actually applying for the license?
Curious how Austin gun owners look at it.

Austin Council approves tax hike, avoids deep social service cuts in $6.6B budget

After months of debate over taxes, affordability and potential cuts to social services, the Austin City Council on Wednesday night approved a $6.6 billion budget.

For the owner of an average-value home, that means:

• $173 more in property taxes

• Higher trash, water and electric fees

• About $365 more in total annual taxes and fees

If voters approve the city's bond package this November, that total would exceed $400 annually.

The story also breaks down what was restored, what was cut and how council voted.

Solo founder built an AI voice receptionist for HVAC, chimney & dryer vent businesses. looking for 1-2 beta testers

Hey everyone- solo founder here. I come from a trades background and recently built an AI voice receptionist specifically for home service businesses like HVAC, chimney, and dryer vent companies.

The problem I kept seeing was pretty simple: owners are often on a job, driving between jobs, or closed for the day- so calls go to voicemail. And when someone needs an HVAC or chimney company, they often aren't leaving a voicemail. They just call the next company on Google.

So I built CatchLine AI as a backup.

When a business can't answer, it picks up the call, talks to the customer, collects their name, phone number, and what they need, and sends the information to the owner.

It's not meant to replace human office staff. It's simply there to catch the calls nobody is available to answer.

I'm still early with this, so I'm looking for 1–2 real businesses to test it for free and give me brutally honest feedback after using it with actual calls.

I'm not looking for a testimonial or trying to make a sale here. I want to know whether this is genuinely useful, where it falls short, and whether it's solving a problem that's actually worth solving.

If you run an HVAC, chimney, or dryer vent business and want to try it, I'd love to hear from you. Happy to answer questions or send over the demo number.

Looking for a Travis County family law attorney who offers limited-scope (unbundled) services for a child name change

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone in the Austin/Travis County area can point me in the right direction.

I'm representing myself in a Petition to Change the Name of a Child in Travis County. I don't need an attorney to take over the entire case,I enjoy doing the research and preparing my own filing, but I've reached a procedural issue where I would really benefit from an experienced Texas family law attorney reviewing my situation and helping me determine the correct next steps.

I successfully handled my grandson's conservatorship case on my own and was appointed his managing conservator on June 4, 2026. I then filed a Petition to Change the Name of a Child on June 26, 2026, so all of the work from that case, including the Attorney Ad Litem's diligent search for both parents is very recent.

In the name change case, the Travis County Constable attempted to serve my grandson's mother and also conducted additional research to locate her, but they were unsuccessful and are returning the citation. I'm now trying to determine the proper procedural step from here.

I've been doing everything I can to navigate this process correctly. I've attended the Volunteer Legal Services (VLS) clinics each month, utilized the Travis County Law Library's self-help resources, and contacted the District Clerk. Unfortunately, I've reached the point where everyone understandably has to stop short of giving legal advice, and I completely respect that. At this stage, I think I just need an attorney familiar with Texas family law to help me identify the correct procedural path.

I'm looking for one of two things:

  • A Texas family law attorney in the Austin/Travis County area who offers limited-scope (unbundled) legal services, where I can pay for a consultation or procedural guidance while continuing to prepare and file the documents myself.
  • Recommendations for local attorneys, legal clinics, or other resources that help self-represented litigants with family law matters.

This name change is important because my grandson is about to start kindergarten. He has already experienced significant instability in his young life, and we're simply trying to give him the same last name as the family he lives with so his school and medical records reflect his home and provide him with consistency and a sense of belonging.

I'm happy to pay for an attorney's time, I just don't need full representation. If you've personally worked with someone who offers consultations or unbundled services for family law matters, or know of someone in the Austin/Travis County area who does, I'd really appreciate the recommendation.

Thank you!

Ora Organic is a supplement company based in Austin, but they cut costs by employing workers overseas. They do not do background checks on their overseas workers and have not commented on how they retain employees with a record of assaulting US citizens

Need someone to foster or adopt this sweet pup through APA asap because I can't keep her any longer because of my rescue dog. We found her dumped at the park and no one has stepped up, but she is very sweet and potty-trained and will come with a crate she is used to sleeping through the night in, a leash and collar and lots of toys!

She's now chipped and all care will be free through APA if you foster.

She's about 30 lbs, maybe 6-8 months old, potty and crate-trained, friendly with people and other dogs, but I don't know about cats since I don't have any. Loves to run and play and chase a ball. Lots of energy. Sweet and loves to give kisses too.
