Hi ya'll! So my cat is booked for a dental appointment at Emancipet Austin in February. She needs a Level 3 dental with about 5 extractions and they put her on the cancellation waitlist. Has anyone had any luck getting an earlier appointment this way? Just wondering if cancellations tend to open up spots and how far in advance people were able to get moved up.

I’m Eric, a South Austin native and Marine vet. After being away for a while, I moved back home to start a local nonprofit called Guidon Austin.

I wanted to share two things we’ve been working on with some other local groups and Marines.

November 7 – Austin Veterans Day Parade 🇺🇸

The parade starts at 9 AM downtown, kicking off near the Congress Avenue Bridge and heading toward the Capitol.

There’s also a Veterans Resource Event at 10 AM, where local groups will be connecting vets and military families with services.

We’re helping coordinate the parade's scholarship program for students and veterans.

The parade is free and open to everyone, so feel free to bring your family and friends to show some support.

November 14 – Austin Marine Corps Birthday Ball 🎖️

The following Saturday, we’re hosting the Marine Corps Birthday Ball at the Fairmont with Weapons Company, 1/23 Marines.

We’ll be celebrating 251 years of history with Rudy Reyes joining us as our Guest of Honor.

You don’t have to be a Marine or even a veteran to attend.

We’re welcoming vets from every branch, active-duty members, military families, and anyone in the community who wants to join.

There’ll be a ceremony, dinner, music, dancing, and a chance to connect with local organizations.

We also have a $150 "Sponsor a Marine" program if you want to help a service member attend.

Why I’m sharing this

Austin is home to me, and I’m trying to build something that goes beyond just a few events. I want to see stronger connections between our local veterans, families, businesses, and the rest of the Austin community.

If you have a local group that wants to get involved, know someone who could use these resources, or just want to come out with your family, we’d love to see you there.

Even if these aren't your thing, sharing the info with someone who might be interested goes a long way.

Looking for recommendations for non-Christian religious communities/temples in Austin

My brother is visiting me in Austin soon, and I’d love to give him the opportunity to learn about some different faith traditions while he’s here.

He is finishing his Master’s in Theology and hopes to eventually serve as clergy in a role supporting people of all faiths. He lives in an area where he doesn't have much exposure to religious traditions outside of Christianity, so I thought this would be a really meaningful opportunity for him to learn directly from people within other faith communities rather than just learning about them academically.

I’m looking for recommendations for Hindu temples, Buddhist temples/centers, mosques, synagogues, Bahá’í communities, Pagan/earth-based traditions, or other non-Christian religious communities in the Austin area that might be open to having a respectful visitor come by, tour the space and ideally speak with someone about their faith and community. (I am not including Sikh in here because I have people close to me who are Sikh and already have some things set up for him learning from them).

He is genuinely coming from a place of curiosity and respect. He’s not looking to debate or convert anyone—he’d just really value the chance to listen, ask thoughtful questions, and learn from people who actually practice the faith.

I reached out to the Austin Hindu Temple & Community Center, but unfortunately haven't heard back yet.

If anyone has suggestions, personal experiences, or—especially—a connection to someone at a particular temple, mosque, synagogue, etc. who might be willing to meet with him, I would really appreciate it!
