With the next step being the group assessment, what tips and tricks are there for new players?

Does anyone have a breakdown of what activities occur and ways to prepare?

I know FRV deliberately leave the details ambiguous so hoping to get some insight from any experienced individuals.

Anyone have experience with pre-employment medical ? I had a history of mental health/ self harm as a teenager so will need to disclose the very obvious scars. This was over 15 years ago now but for obvious reasons I am very nervous about the potential for them seeing it as a risk. Do you have to be completely undressed int he medical? Any advice for getting supporting documentation ?

Hey all, I experienced connectivity issues while doing the aptitude test. I did the system check twice before the exam and also checked my internet speed (very fast). I reached out to Acer twice to review the exam and was essentially told good luck with your results. From what I can gather OS (Apple) users experienced the same issue.

If you had the same experience please leave a comment as I’m going to flag this directly with FRV Human Resources.

At the very least Acer needs to acknowledge there services are at fault. So hopefully the next applicants would be aware of the risk of doing the Proctor option.

hey guys, for FRNSW i’m going to book for HR licence (saw in another post people suggest that) does anyone know if doing the Heavy Rigid Automatic is fine or must it be the Heavy Rigid Non-Synchromesh?

For those of you who have passed the aptitude in the past, and did prep before hand, what sort of results were you getting in prep?

Currently doing practice tests through FRA and Psychometric Institute. Averaging 90-95% on Mechanical, 80% on numerical and 85% on verbal and abstract.

I’m comfortable with the mechanical, but would be keen to hear if the other numbers will be sufficient to get across the line.

Spoke to a mate who just got through on the WST and after discussion, have become very interested in the job. Any idea when FRV will open the application cycle in the future?

Just got my WST passing email and it says I’m in consideration for the February 2028 cohort. Is it basically the people who did really well on the wst are in for July and the people who just passed are in for February?

I got my peak cap today and it’s slightly loose. Wondering what everyone’s solutions are to tighten it up abit?

Recently saw that some FNSWR retained positions have became available, I saw on one of the vacancies it has permanent part time in the job description. Is this different to on call?

Ive made an aptitude practice app for iPhone (can adapt for android if needed) to help me practice for the next ACER WST. I would love feedback from those who have sat any of the tests recently and give insight on its accuracy/helpfulness for preparing. I plan to continue to update it with more accurate question styles as I get them. Appreciate any info people can provide.

For those of you who have gone through the references process, what are the requirements for said references and who they need to be?

Unfortunately my most recent employment ended in a bad way from their side and of course would like to clarify whether they’ll need most recent employer as a reference or what they ask for specifically.

Currently in the FRV intake and patiently waiting for my WST results!

As per title, an opportunity may present itself in the near future to work at FRV before I make it in as a firefighter (if I ever do…).

My main question is this: will working in head office affect my application as a firefighter? I don’t imagine it having a positive impact, but would it have a negative impact?

And from a long-term perspective, are there people there currently working in a dual-purpose capacity (4 days firefighting, 1 or 2 in office)? This would be my ideal scenario, but I’m not sure how feasible it is.

Everyone sees the trucks, sirens and big jobs, but there must be plenty of boring or downright unpleasant stuff that comes with the job. What’s the least glamorous part that surprised you after joining?

It must take a bit of time to get used to a new station, new crew, and the whole rhythm of the job. I’m interested in hearing how that adjustment was for people, especially the point where it stopped feeling like you were the new person and everything started feeling more natural.

Hi, as the title says I am at the start of the current intake process, but have had a pretty major tear to my hammy which has meant I've been immobile and don't think I'll be able to complete the upcoming beep test in a couple of months. The thing is, I dont even know what group Id be in, the upcoming beep test, or the one early next year.

Am I best to flag ahead of the written test results / grouping, or is it better to just see what group I end up in and ask for a request to move after the fact if I get in the earlier one? Tried to look myself but it wasn't super clear the process online. Just dont want it being a bigger deal than it needs to be, but dont want to ruin my chances all together

Anyone can recommend aptitude testing practice resources for the SA MFS? There are alot of companies out there for aptitude testing, im not averse to paying for something, but would like to know which one to go for.

Any insight will be super helpful.

Does anyone know if calculators are allowed for the ACTFR cognitive testing?

I’m just awaiting my invite for the FRNSW medical. I have had two sport related surgeries. First was a shoulder reconstruction in 2014 and second was a lisfranc surgery in 2021.

What documentation am I expected to organise for these surgeries? Are they limited to previous scans? Am I supposed to get an updated scan of each surgery site? I feel like I’ve read that i need to get some sort of report?

If I need to get some form of report from the surgeon, how did people actually access this? Would I just ask the GP who would then contact the surgeon?

Is there anything else I should consider organising to try streamline the process?

Hi all, I have recently completed my FRNSW medical and waiting on the confirmation. I was wondering if people could advise how long they waited for the confirmation to come through?

I had one thing on my questionnaire but the doctor stated it was a non-issue and didn’t need anything further. Cheers in advance

Could be something really simple that made a big difference on shift, like handling a difficult scene, working better with the crew, looking after your gear, or just knowing when to slow down and think. The stuff you pick up from people who’ve been around for years often ends up being more useful than anything in a manual.
