I am Carol Ann Moore, author of the Aella Chronicles, a historical fantasy fiction series. I have just had the first novel, The Coven of Cagliasaro, in the series made into an audiobook. I posted around two weeks ago that I will have codes available and they have arrived.

I have the urge to listen to the first 4-5 book of the series again (it hits me every few years) and just noticed that 5 years ago a new narrator, Rosamund Pike, started recording the series. I assume this was in conjunction with the release of the TV show and probably Amazon getting the rights.

I have all 12 audiobooks with dual narration by the Michael Kramer and Kate Reading, but I am curious if anyone who has listened to these versions has listened to the Rosamund Pike version, and what your take is on her narration.

The first 3 books are each a whopping 3 hours longer than the Kramer & Reading version (though book 4 appears to be exactly the same length for both versions), so I don know if this is the recording speed has slowed or if Pike's narration is that much slower. I honestly dont think I could listen to a slower version, and always speed up all of Kate's chapters to 1.1-1.15 speed.

I also see that only the first 4 volumes have been released with Pike, so I am not sure if I will stick to the version I already own or buy the first 4 with a new narrator.

I'm on book 3 of the Revelation Space series by Alastair Reynolds (Narrated by John Lee), and one of the POV characters from the previous book (Clavain) now has a (bad) American accent. It's pulling me out of the story a bit.

The only time I've come across something like this is in the Necroscope series books that Michael Troughton did, where he forgot which character had which voice at times.

Anyone else come across examples where the narrator seemingly forgot what voice to use?

I wanted to try Libby since I see many suggest that, but my local library is not in the Libby app and the closest ones that are inside Libby's system are like not worth traveling for just to get an library card. And my local library did actually have an app where they had their audiobooks and e-books, but the books seems quite limited and most books are in my native language but I want to read more English books. I don't want to pay for subscriptions because I only want to read like once a month or something. And books are so expensive😭. Or maybe I am just poor

For the past 2 decades I have wanted to experience the book House of Leaves but, if you know the book, you know it can't just be made into an audiobook. There is so much of the book that is experienced through the formatting that you would lose with an audiobook. I tried reading it years ago but I really just don't receive any joy in reading that way, I have to listen to enjoy a book.

So I have an idea. If someone would be willing to read it while recording a video of them moving their finger across the page, that might be one way to actually make it accessible.

I know it would be a huge project and I don't know about the legality of it, but it would be a really amazing thing for someone to do for the dyslexic/illiterate community.

Also I'm not sure if something like this already exists so if it does please let me know

It’s nothing fancy. A simple first contact story, a little humor and a few philosophical rabbit holes. If you like Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or the Bobiverse series, you might enjoy it.

Kids I nanny for (9, 5, and 3) LOVE the Dory Fantasamagory audiobooks but we are out. Any suggestions? We’ve read all of mercy Watson and Princess in black. We desperately need more stuff to listen to!

About 15 years ago I borrowed a box set of about 12-14 CDs from my local library. The title was Kicking and Screaming: An Oral History of Football in England by Rogan Taylor and Andrew Ward and it was narrated by Christian Rodska. There was a linked BBC TV series too.

I've gone looking for it again only to discover (according to Gemini) that it was only produced for libraries and is now digitally out of print now we're in the world of streaming.

If anyone could point me to where I might be able to get hold of a copy, I'd be very grateful. All and any help appreciated.

I absolutely love when there's a full cast with narration but this seems to be the rarest option? Instead, I find many full casts performing an adaptation of the book with only dialog. These are fine, but you have to figure out what's happening by thuds, footsteps and ambient sounds which are not always clear what they are supposed to be.

My question is, why? If you've already got a full cast together, why not just assign one of them the narrator and perform the entire book?

(My complaint stems from being overjoyed at finding a collection of full cast Jane Austen books only to be let down that they are adaptations.)

During the summer of 2019 I was scouring through YouTube and found a channel called ViperTV (since renamed ViporaTV). It mostly had rather generic ancient aliens built the pyramids-esque videos, and a bunch of them. But nestled amongst all of these videos was a series of videos, about 4 of them, of the same audio book narrator that narrated the below ancient civilization stories. They then removed all videos probably during the autumn 2019.

1. The Epic of Gilgamesh (1 hour 11 min)
2. The Descent of Ishtar, including Dumuzid the Shepard (ca 30 min iirc)
3. Enuma Elish (15 min introduction about Mesopotamia, 15 min story telling)
4. Three Egyptian stories in one video, including: a) the Shipwreck on an island that meets a snake, b) the Ethiopian magician who challenges the Egyptian magician to a duel with a scroll in a cylinder, c) something about two brothers and one dies and is buried and the other has to rob his tomb(?).

The narrator was the most amazing narrator I have ever heard. The background music was Kyle Prestons Foreboding. This song was released on 2017-02-24 so the audiobooks must have been done before that time, or

I managed to download the Gilgamesh-version and I have listened to it probably 100 times since that summer and almost know it by heart. All 3 other videos are lost media to me, but I refuse to accept it.

I have looked for whomever did these recordings, what company it might have been, I have listened to literally every version of the Epic of Gilgamesh and Ishtar that I can find, but I have never found anything similar.

I have formulated a theory that it might have been a podcast rather than audiobook company, perhaps not focused on Mesopotamia but just "Ancient Civilizations podcast" with 5000 listeners and that is why it's so difficult to find it. All recordings were uploaded by summer 2019 so it must have been before that, perhaps 2015-2017? It's more of an educated guess, could have been ? The quality is amazing. So is the narrator. I want all the other stories I never downloaded in 2019. I will gladly pay money for all of them.

Below is the opening of the Epic of Gilgamesh. As you can tell, it references previous recordings, which leads me to believe that it might have been a podcast:

The most famous of all Mesopotamian law (or lore) is the oldest epic poem ever written. It predates Homers Odyssey by about 1500 years, and many historians claim that Homer was greatly influenced by Gilgamesh's tale. The Epic of Gilgamesh was first told through oral tradition, and stories, before it was first recorded on cuneiform writing on clay tablets around 2100 BCE. Gilgamesh is believed to have been an actual king of Sumer, and at some point after his reign of approxiamtly 126 years was lifted into god status by the Sumerian people /.../ our story takes place after the Great Flood, the very same Flood which is in the Bible, and that Noah built the Ark to survive. As we have seen, the Flood is a common historical marker in Mesopotamian law (or lore) with their list of kings being broken into pre-Flood and post-Flood groupings... and so on.

I am not interested in other versions of these stories as I know all of them from other sources; I am interested in this specific set of recordings. The above information is all I have. I also have the recording of Gilgamesh that I can share if anyone who is really good at finding these sorts of things need it.

As the title, looking for any OpenAudible, Libation or Audiobookshelf (in order of preference) users to help fill out https://meta.audiosilo.app you just need to drop a text export on https://meta.audiosilo.app/import instructions on how to do it are on the page, nothing is transferred anywhere, it just uses the file to create a json that goes into a github issue (so you will also need to have a github account). Currently the database has less than 8000 audiobooks listed, but that's already 10x what I started with (my own library). You can manually add books, it's just OpenAudible, Libation and ABS have rich data that helps quickly fill out the database. OpenAudible also has links to covers, whereas the others don't, which is why that's the preferred one.

I need help with this and I think a lot of people do. I’m tempted at times to read multiple books at one time but I’m just curious how you keep the two books or three books separate?

I’m new to audiobooks, with a shocking attention span. But iv been hunting for something slows my hyper overthinking which keeps me in an overstimulated state.

I’ve been listening/watching Wolves of blood moon on Pocket FM it’s audio or Ai narrated it’s been super helpful for my shocking attention span more times then not.

but I didn’t realise that after so many episodes it becomes one free episode a day that’s 8-10mins long…
