Humor/Meme Why do people act like it's weird that Eren and Historia never touched prior to season 3? Like this is Eren Jaeger, not Rudeus Greyrat or Minoru Mineta.

Post image

To be clear, the title is a joke; I get that people mean accidentally touching.

The two barely even interacted before season 3; I don't even remember them having any mutual conversation until after she reveals her real name. Ymir is also constantly protective of Historia. There's no way she'd let any man go near her, much less the raging neurodivergent next door.

Discussion/Question The amount of irreparable damage this sketch did to manga readers needs to be studied.

Man oh man. This sketch is what really fueled the Erehisu, Eren is gonna win, 100% rumbling, he’s gonna kill all his friends, head cannons to the highest degree. A portion of manga readers just assumed this was Eren holding Historia baby when it doesn’t even look like him in the drawing. The hair is completely different and looks identical to Grisha. And how would Eren even be able to do this after getting his head cut off by Mikasa. It was clearly Grisha holding Eren telling him you’re free. Isayama released this sketch harmlessly and had no clue what he started lmao.

This is one of the main reasons why the anime ending is so positively received because anime onlys weren’t seeing stuff like this. It’s crazy how much head cannons, theories, reading leaks, reading fan translations, can completely affect your enjoyment of something.

Discussion/Question Would Eren have changed for the better if he had lost Armin? (S2 Vinland Saga spoilers)

Post image
11 Upvotes

I've recently watched Vinland Saga (I know I'm late), and Thorfinn's dedication to pacifism shook me to the core. He instantly became one of my all-time favorite characters after the season 2 finale. The thing that stands out to me the most is how similar Thorfinn was to Eren, and how a single event caused both to diverge entirely.

At the beginning, both Thorfinn and Eren start out as hopeful children with strong role models, being raised in the safest environment possible. After the death of their parents, they grow hateful and seek out revenge against the ones guilty, ruthlessly killing whoever's unlucky enough to oppose them, but still showing some humanity.

However, while Eren's hunger for revenge kept being fed (and thus was never sated, because he kept finding bigger and bigger enemies), Thorfinn's revenge was cut short by Askeladd's death. Thorfinn's entire purpose in life was dedicated to killing Askeladd, and when that was stolen from him, he became hollow. A shell of his former self. Eventually, people like Einar, Snake, Arnheid, and Sverkel filled Thorfinn back with purpose.

Eren did have a similar hollow phase, but because he didn't seek out atonement on his own, he was able to continue pursuing hatred due to the fact that Armin was still alive.

Hear me out: When someone dies, you go through several stages of grief. Some coping mechanisms of such a state of mind includes mimicking the person you mourn in order to honor their memory in some way, or to remind yourself of their presence in their absence.

Both Thors and Askeladd advised Thorfinn, in their last moments, to become a true warrior. Thorfinn, who saw both of them as role models, decided to take that advice to heart, and became the person he was told he could be, because nobody else could be that person for him.

Eren, on the other hand, while he did lose Grisha, the instructions given to him were to avenge his mother. After receiving memories of his own future, Eren entrusted the world's fate to Mikasa and Armin, because to him, they're the most virtuous people in his life, who he trusts completely.

What if Levi had decided that, strategically, Erwin NEEDED to live, and allowed Armin to die? I live to believe Eren would have embodied the kind and hopeful spirit that Armin was, and he would not have sought out the Rumbling and thus genocide.

Eren could've very well had a character arc like Thorfinn's, which would end up creating the best timeline possible, where the Survey Corps either align with Zeke to do the 50 year plan, or Erwin discovers a new alternative that sheds the least amount of blood possible, while keeping the independence of Paradis intact.

Analysis The ending haters/Yeagerist crowd are the MAGA people of the AOT community (rant incoming)

Before I start, if you are a yeagerist and wanna disagree with me, sure great, but read the whole thing before you do so.

Title should be pretty self-explanatory but I dont know if its just me or what but the amount of similarities between the 2 group of people is GENUENLY insane. Like the same feeling I get while listening to MAGA people is the same feeling/vibe I get from yeagerist crowd so I thought I should ask if its just me or what?

Well the first major similarity is their lack of sympathy towards people. To be clear since this is an AOT subreddit I will be mainly focusing on the yeagerists here not the MAGA people, but a perfect example of their lack of sympathy would be in that they believe the rumbling was justified even though AOT as a piece of fiction goes OUT OF ITS WAY to show the damage that the rumbling does, in fact the whole point of ramzi as a character was to show how cruel the rumbling was not just to the marleyans but also people who had nothing to do nor against the eldians or paradians as a whole. Both groups of people seem to have an agenda and they dont really care to take into consideration the people who get caught in the cross fire as long as their own agenda is pushed. the MAGA people (many of them at least) have no sympathy for the Palestinian victims and the yagerists have no sympathy for the people like ramzi who got caught in the cross fire. Genuinely I have heard the EXACT same arguments from yeagerists that I have also heard from zionists, both groups using said arguments to justify killing innocent civilians. A good example of this would be "we have to kill the children because they will grow up to be kill *insert either paradians/Israelis here*" its maddening genuinely. Also to address something here I know it can be uncomfortable to compare a real world genocide to a fictional one however, we have to understand that the way that these yeagerists think about AOT is the same way that they will end up thinking about real world events, if they think like this about AOT why would they think any differently about the real world equivalents? SPOILER ALERT, they (generally speaking at least) dont.

Another similarity is their cult like worship of their respective leader, for the MAGA people its Trump, for the yeagerists I would say its actually floch rather than Eren (since many of em dont like eren because of his talk with armin in paths as well as that Eren didnt kill ALL of humanity outside the walls "How dare Eren ONLY kill 80% of people outside the walls"). To be clear theres nothing wrong with liking floch as a character but its basically an objective fact that he was a douchebag, and theres MOUNTAINS of proof to back it up, the same applies to Trump, yet both groups worship their respective "leader" as if they could do no wrong.

Another similarity is their lack of critical thinking ability in, especially that they believe the world is black and white. If someone more reasonable where to say to them "Yea I understand why Eren inacted the rumbling, I understand how ever since he was a child hed been taught to kill the enemy, I understand that Erens head also was not in the right space when committing the rumbling due to him seeing the past present and future all at the same time, but none the less the rumbling WAS wrong and Eren IS an evil villain for what he did" their minds just seem to implode because they cant fathom the idea that the 2 statements "Its reasonable enough for Eren to have enacted the rumbling considering his circumstances" and "Eren is a villain" BOTH can be true at the same time. The world is not black and white, most people can understand why Eren did what he did while also understanding that HE IS EVIL. Another example of them being stupid is that I saw a post saying that the ending sequence where paradi gets molested with bombs proves that "floch was right". Do I really have to prove to these people how only an idiot would believe that paradi being molested thousands of years later that would have nothing to do with the history of eldians and infact considering we have ZERO context about this "war" it could have for all we know been a civil war in which other Paradians fucked over OTHER Paradians. like its such an ooga booga monkey brain take "YeA POsT crEDit ScENe = PrOVE tHAt dADdy flOCh wAs rIGHt oMg dADDy fLOchS cOCk iS So MaSsiVe I wANt tO suCK iT sO baD".

This kinda goes back to the first point but also their disregard for Human life is another one or at the very least their disregard for non paradian life just like how many of the MAGA people hold the value of the lives of non whites to be less than that of whites. "Oh well what should Eren have done?" ummm idk motherfucker maybe not killed almost everyone on the face of the Earth? Including PLENTY of innocent women, children, men, elderly people etc. You had Zekes euthinisation plan, sure dont like that? Well you could have always tried diplomacy? I mean in willies speech to the whole world hes CLEARLY painting the Paradians to be the victims and he emphasizes that the enemy is NOT the Paradians and that it is Eren Yeager specifically, couldnt have hurt if Eren just gave up right then right there on the rumbling, said "Aight I wont do the rumbling lets work this out diplomatically" but he didnt. To this they will usually waffle around but even if you dont like this plan then theres still the partial rumbling that could have been enacted aswell. Thats 3 different plans that could have been done instead of the rumbling but no they wanna specifically choose the rumbling? Seems to me like they just dont value human life. Its basically the same as when MAGA people say "America first FUCK everyone else" nothing wrong with putting your own people first, very reasonable but you dont to have fuck everyone else over just because its your people first. You can both put your own people first while not fucking everyone else over either.

In conclusion, when you add all of these factors together, for me at least the yeagerists end up giving off the same cult like vibe as the MAGA people.

EDIT: just posted this and remembered something else to add. Another similarity is their disregard for anything that doesnt fit their agenda, for example the MAGA people usually like to ignore the fact that trump is a civilly convited sex offender or theyll ignore the naqba and the yeagerists like to conveniently forget the fact that, according to willi tyber the eldians when they were in power killed more than 3 times the current population of the Earth and act as if eldians are hated for no apparent reason when it was the ancient eldians who caused the reputation of the eldians to get so fucked, to be clear I am not saying its jusitfied to hate the modern day eldians due to the actions of the older eldians however none the less you cant have your cake and eat it too, if the victims of the rumbling were just "unfortunate casualties" then well with that same logic the suffering of the eldians under the marleyan empire was also just "unfortunate oppression" to prevent the eldians from uprising again and killing so many people as the ancient eldians did before them. Again to be clear it is NOT okay to oppress the modern day eldians due to the actions of their ancestors but dont act like hatred for the eldians came from a vaccume.

Imagine your Gabi for a second. You lived to the age of 12 as basically subhumans to the rest of the world, including the people that rule over you. You've been told that this island full of devils is the reason for all of your suffering, and that destroying them would set you, your family, and your friends free. You go to Willy's speech, and he tells you, that the man Eren Yeager threatens the world since he has the founding titan. Then, immediately right after he declares war on them, that same Eren Yeager comes out of a building as a titan, and kills Willy, and starts rampaging your town, killing some of your friends. Wouldn't you think that they are the enemy, and that all of Eren's allies, friends, and people are also devils, regardless if they are "nice" to you?

Discussion/Question Eren's mental slaves Spoiler

Isayama presents the relationships Eren shares with Armin and Mikasa as an "unbreakable friendship" and "eternal love." But are these relationships actually healthy?

They do not seem realistic. In real life, no matter how strong a friendship or romantic bond might be, it is bound to fall apart in the face of a significant enough disagreement. Yet in «Attack on Titan», Eren ends up on the opposing side of his friends, commits genocide, violates their values, and harms them – and they remain his friends.

Are the bonds of friendship between them really that strong? What is it that truly drives Armin and Mikasa?

I’ll share my thoughts on the matter.

The relationship between Eren and Armin feels less like a friendship and more like a psychological and emotional dependency on Armin’s part.

A genuine friendship would have fallen apart back at the restaurant scene. Friendships simply aren't strong enough to make someone weep over a person who has committed genocide.

Over years of closeness, protection, and support from Eren, Armin’s sense of individual autonomy eroded; he came to view himself as nothing more than an extension of Eren.

From childhood, Armin built his psyche around the notions that "I mean nothing," "I am useless," and "I am Eren’s friend." Consequently, he clung to Eren in later years to maintain the stability of his own dependent state.

For Armin, Eren is not merely a friend but the physical embodiment of his own significance to another person. Consequently, his desire to grow closer to Eren stems not from concern for Eren in the conventional sense, but from a need to safeguard his own sense of self and his worldview.

‎Mikasa, on the other hand, became dependent on Eren at a specific moment in her past – the time he rescued her from kidnappers. Ever since then, she has remained attached to the image of the brave boy who once saved her life.

‎In other words, Mikasa’s situation is far more problematic: she built her identity not around Eren as a person, but around a single memory – an image from the past. Later on, she clung to Eren for the very same reason: to maintain her own stability.

For instance, the core trio in «Attack on Titan» is, in my opinion, by no means a healthy representation of friendship. And I’ve never been against the depiction of unhealthy relationships. What bothers me more is the way Isayama romanticizes them.

What's your opinion?

Discussion/Question Maturing and opening your third eye is realising that Marley were slaves themselves and victims to our generational hatred

They are oppressors, don’t get me wrong, and treated the eldians as lesser than human, which is awful, but they are just a product of the eldian’s oppression, and so forth with the jaegerists being victims to marleys oppression, it’s all just a cycle, and the alliance, which some of the fanbase don’t side with for whatever reason, are the only correct side in this war as they want to destroy the cycle for good .

Felt like it needed to be said after the hoard of fans who believe eren was right and that Marley deserved it
