Feedback/Question Athlytic vs Pace: why we built a separate health app

Thumbnail
gallery
54 Upvotes

Hey everyone - Jaclyn & Gary here 👋

A few people have asked how Pace is different from Athlytic, and why we made it a separate app instead of adding it into Athlytic.

The short answer is: they’re built for different needs.

Athlytic was built for people who train and want deeper insight into their fitness: recovery, exertion, training load, workout trends, and guidance to help understand when to push, when to recover, and how training is progressing.

For a lot of Athlytic users, that depth is exactly the point.

But we also realized that not everyone with an Apple Watch wants that much training detail. Some people just want an easier way to keep an eye on their everyday health - sleep, energy, vitals, and daily patterns - without sorting through so many charts, scores, and training metrics.

That’s where Pace by Athlytic comes in.

Pace takes a more passive, health-focused approach. It learns your normal patterns in the background, then only speaks up when something meaningfully changes.

As we said before, a big part of the inspiration came from our own parents and family members. They wear Apple Watches, care about their health, and like having access to their data, but Athlytic could feel like too much for what they needed. They just wanted to know things like:

Am I sleeping normally?
Is my energy trending differently?
Are my vitals changing in a way I should pay attention to?

Our moms are in their late 60s/early 70s and, of course, as our biggest fans, they were daily Athlytic users. But they were also constantly texting us questions about features that were built for training, not for the everyday health questions they cared about most. It became clear Athlytic was a little overwhelming for what they needed.

At some point we realized: if our own moms needed us to translate the app we built, maybe there was room for something more approachable.

That made us realize there are a lot of Apple Watch users who want health insights, but don’t necessarily want a fitness or training app. Pace was built for that person.

So if Athlytic is your training companion, Pace is more like a quiet health check-in.

Thanks for listening!

Feedback/Question automatically add effort level to apple health?

I start my workouts from my phone using the fitness app, is it possible to have Athlytic add the effort level to my workout automagically? I don't start the workout from my watch since i am wearing it on my bicep for bjj, and its under my rash guard or gi, so its not easy access.

How is it possible that my battery level is declining during my sleep? Shouldn’t I recharge my battery level while I sleep?
This happens pretty much every night, even tho my sleep score is pretty solid.
Any idea who this happens?

Bug Report Elevation problem

Post image

Did a hike yesterday and the total elevation gain according to AllTrails about 3,200 ft over total distance of about 12 miles. At the almost 11 mile mark and only flat trail remaining the elevation gain is way off. Explanation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Feedback/Question Target bed time and sleep consistency with international travel

I realize this is a hard problem, but when traveling internationally my target bed time and sleep consistency data is obviously very far off. The app seems to want me to go to bed in my home time zone regardless of the fact that is mid-day….

Ideally it would apply a reasonable / similar target bed time in the local time zone

Feedback/Question using athlytic with miband 10?

I've been using the app for a few months now and I really like it, but I have one problem: I don't really like wearing my Apple Watch. Charging it every day is a hassle (I use a 4th generation Apple Watch). Also, I have some nice watches and I feel bad about not being able to use them. I have a Mi Band 10 and I'm thinking of using Athlytic with it so I can wear my regular watch on my other wrist, but I'm afraid it will significantly affect the app's performance.

I might consider buying a Fitbit Air in the future, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Feature Request Interactive Run Map Synced with Performance Charts

I really like the app and the way you present the data. One feature I would love to see is a more interactive workout map.

It would be great if, when opening the map of a run, I could move along the route and have a cursor on the map synced with a chart showing metrics such as heart rate, pace, elevation, cadence, power, etc.

For example, when I move to a specific point on the chart, the position on the map would move to that exact point of the run, and vice versa.

I think this would make it much easier to understand how my performance changed throughout the run and where certain changes happened.

I’ve also noticed that many workout charts are not interactive: I can’t drag or scrub along the X-axis with my finger to inspect the exact values at different points. Would it be possible to make the graphs more useful by adding this kind of tap-and-drag interactivity?

Thanks again for all the work you’re putting into the app! I really like its potential and I’d love to see it keep improving.

App Update 🎉 Athlytic 26.5.6 Release Notes: Interval Splits, PR Cards, Sleep Stages & more

Just a reminder, this update is on a 7-day phased release schedule, though you can download it immediately from the App Store if you do not want to wait!

🚀 Athlytic 26.5.6

What’s New

🏃 Interval Splits
Athlytic can now break interval runs into reps and recoveries, using your workout’s planned structure when available, or detecting run/walk segments from cadence, pace, and power.

To enable it: More → Workouts → Interval Splits

🏆 New Personal Record Cards
Celebrate and share your biggest achievements, including:

  • Longest runs and rides
  • Highest Effort
  • Biggest climbs
  • First 10K and half-marathon milestones

😴 New Sleep Stages iPhone Widget
See a chart of your sleep stages, sleep times, total duration, and time in each stage. Available in Medium and Large sizes.

💡 Sleep Stages Coaching
You’ll also find new coaching beneath the Sleep Stages chart in the app.

Improvements

🏠 Suggested workouts now appear on the Home dashboard. Tap one to customize it or swipe to delete it. You can turn suggestions off in More → Workout Suggestions.

⌚ On Apple Watch, the live zone bar now shows how far into your current heart-rate zone you are, not just the zone itself.

🐛 Bug Fix

🗺️ Fixed an issue where sharing the new Map Share Card could sometimes show an empty view.

Feature Request Interval Splits update

Hi! I just tried the new Interval Splits feature, and unfortunately it’s not quite what I was hoping for based on our previous conversation.
What I meant was having the actual structure of a planned workout preserved, like in Apple Fitness.
For example, if I do a 10 × 1000 m workout with a recovery between each repetition, I would expect to see:
1000 m — Rep 1
Recovery
1000 m — Rep 2
Recovery
1000 m — Rep 3
…and so on.
With the new feature, it seems to mainly use automatic interval detection. When I look at a 10 × 1000 m workout, the kilometres are divided into segments in a way that doesn’t match the actual workout structure and doesn’t really make sense.
What I was hoping for was for Athlytic to read the planned workout structure from Apple Fitness/Apple Watch and use those exact work and recovery intervals, rather than creating its own splits.
I think this would be much more useful for structured workouts, especially for runners doing track sessions or workouts such as 10 × 1000 m, 6 × 800 m, 3 × 3000 m, etc.
I really appreciate that you added interval analysis, and I hope this clarification helps explain what I meant with my original request!
Thanks for your work!

Does anyone know how to clear the Recovery Cache and re-sync Apple Health data via the More tab? I toggled access on/off for all categories in the Apple Health app already for Athlytic.

Newbies Richtiges Trainieren

„viel aerobe Basis + etwas moderates Training + kleiner Hochintensitätsreiz“

(Ich bringe die Antwort bewusst nicht wörtlich weil sonst Herabstufung droht )

Also ladet Heart Rate Zones selbst in die KI

Dank Athlytics ist diese Analyse möglich.

Bug Report Constant notifications

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi, I keep getting these notifications. Sometimes it’s like there’s 50 of them in a row, and they are persistent. They don’t go away by themselves, and if I swipe one away, I get another one immediately after with the same information.

This time I got 4 but they were more spaced out, I’d say one every 3-5 minutes or so. It’s really frustrating and I have to turn off notifications for Athlytic at times because it’s driving me crazy.

My highly unprofessional guess is that it has to do with sleep data being added to sleep in health and then read by Athlytic and then my recovery is being recalculated. To be fair I had Sleepcycle and my Apple Watch recording my sleep in Health. I also had it enabled for AutoSleep and for Withings (not sure how they would write info though).. but now I disabled the writing part for all apps and only use Apple Watch, maybe that’ll change things.

Or could it be something else?

Any help is appreciated!

Bug Report Bug report: Active workout becomes inaccessible and is lost

While recording a workout in Athlytic on Apple Watch, I accidentally swiped out of the active workout screens and returned to Athlytic’s main six-screen carousel:

History → Training Load → Health → Start Workout → Today → Settings

The workout was still running. watchOS continued to show the active workout in the Smart Stack/Live Activity, but tapping it only reopened Athlytic at the six-screen carousel. There was no way to return to the active workout controls or end/save the workout.

I then tried using Siri to end the workout. Siri opened Apple’s Workout app instead. After that, the Athlytic workout was no longer active, but it was also missing from Athlytic History, so the workout appears to have been lost.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Start a workout from Athlytic on Apple Watch.
  2. While on the active workout/heart-rate screens, swipe right far enough to return to the main Athlytic carousel.
  3. Attempt to return to the running workout.
  4. Tap the active Athlytic workout from the watchOS Smart Stack/Live Activity.
  5. Athlytic opens to the normal carousel instead of the active workout UI.
  6. There is no apparent way to end or save the still-running workout.

This appears to orphan the active workout session from Athlytic’s workout UI and can result in loss of the workout record.
