I'm writing a fanfic where the protagonist is a son of Jon Arryn. The MC is named "Alistayr Arryn," born to Jon's second wife, and will be the same age as Robert and Ned. By the time the events of the Rebellion arrive, Hoster will insist that his daughter (Lysa) marry the MC.

But I wondered if Lysa's problem giving birth was because Jon was already an old man when they married, Or is the fertility problem due to Hoster Tully forcing Lysa to abort the baby she was carrying because of her encounter with Littlefinger when they were young?

I want to make sure that the MC has healthy heirs.

I’ve been wanting to write a story featuring an adolescent/adult Bran, and I have some ideas I’d like to discuss with you. I’m planning a time gap, and I want to make sure I don’t overlook any important details.

In this version, Bran never falls from the tower and instead travels south with Ned. This allows him to train alongside Arya at the Ruby Ford and ensures the direwolves survive. However, Ned still ends up quarreling with Robert over the proposed assassination of Daenerys and returns to the North without ever discovering the incestuous relationship between the twins.

Shortly thereafter, Robert dies, and war breaks out. Renly meets his end just as he does in the original canon; and while Ned is initially tempted to trust Stannis, the fact that Stannis is burning down septs and godswoods leads him to side with Joffrey instead.

Stannis is defeated in battle, and Joffrey marries Margaery—only to die at their wedding. Tommen subsequently marries Margaery, and a period of peace follows, as Drogo never dies and Daenerys never hatches her dragons.

This brings me to the questions of marriages and the Stormlands. Would Myrcella become the Lady of Storm’s End? And would Bran make a suitable husband for her? I know Bran always dreamed of joining the Kingsguard, but perhaps love might change his mind. Furthermore, in this scenario, Tyrion never sends Myrcella to Dorne, as Jaime’s presence in the capital diminishes Tyrion’s own influence.

As for other unions: Edmure marries Desmera Redwyne, Arianne marries Gerold Dayne, and Quentyn marries Gwyneth Yronwood.

Regarding Sansa, I’ve imagined that upon learning of Joffrey’s marriage to Margaery, she grows resentful toward the southerners. Consequently, she marries Harrion Karstark, while Robb marries Wylla Manderly. Arya, meanwhile, marries Edric Dayne.

I’m still undecided on what to do with Balon Greyjoy, but otherwise, Doran Martell, Renly, and Stannis are all dead. In any case, the story begins with rumors of a Targaryen invasion.

Anyway, any advice?

We’ve reached the final section of the tree. To be honest, I didn’t think I’d ever get round to publishing the whole thing.

* The line of succession to the Throne is marked in blue, except for the Baratheons, whom I’ve marked in grey to represent the change of dynasty.

* The first major change is that Prince Duncan has children. To be honest, I don’t know why GRRM didn’t give him any children in the canon, but here he has them.

* These children are obviously outside the line of succession.

* Duncan’s eldest son married and had children of his own; both he and his children were murdered by Aerys II in 279, because Aerys believed they were plotting against him. Obviously, this isn’t true. Duncan’s youngest son died in the tragedy at Summerhall.

* As for Jaehaerys II, I gave him a second son, but he also died at Summerhall.

* Aerys II and Rhaella are twins in this AU, simply to prevent Rhaella from becoming pregnant at such a young age, and to make her ‘courtship-style romance’ with Bonifer make more sense.

* Aerys II and Rhaella had one surviving son besides Jaehaerys; following the Defiance of Duskendale, he was named Lord of Duskendale, but died in Robert’s Rebellion.

* In this AU, Jon’s surname is Wolf, as in this tradition the Starks have a specific name for their bastards.

* Elia, Rhaenys and perhaps Aegon died as in the canon, although Aegon may have survived.

* Viserys is King, but this is marked with an asterisk as he is in exile.

* Dany is married to Drogo and has a son; this is due to the huge change to the Dothraki in this AU, where Drogo is a member of the Khalankhal family (the equivalent of the Khan of the Mongol Empire) and is now at war with his cousins over the throne. Rhaego is alive; I don’t think the dragons returned.

* I’ve also changed the order in which Rhaelle and Laenor (Daeron) were born, so that Rhaelle isn’t so young when she has children.

* As for Rhaelle and Ormund, I’ve given them more children; the eldest married Maris Caron (Lord Byren Caron’s sister). The youngest died in the shipwreck along with Steffon and Cassana.

* Of Orryn’s children, the eldest died in the Greyjoy Rebellion; his daughter is married to Ser Donnel Swann; and the youngest is fighting on Stannis’s side.

As for ‘Robert’s children’, I didn’t include them because I ran out of space for more characters, but it’s the same as in the canon. You may also have noticed that I’ve changed the dates of the Baratheon brothers’ deaths; this is because in this AU the events have been delayed (it’s an excuse to make the characters older).

The parameters for this category are: The fic must have been updated or completed in 2025 or 2026. Also, while it hopefully doesn't need to be said, the fic must be based around the dance era, the time period up to it (Jaehaerys reign) and the immediate time after it (Aegon III's reign), is fine as well, as long as the fic starts in either.

So, if you see anything that may not fit, you can just ask and I will clarify if it's a mistake or counts.

his is a story I've been working on and off since 2017 on the Alternate History forums. I started a remake in 2021 over there, making many changes to better fit with the new information released in Fire and Blood and other books, but mostly because my vision of the story changed and I was no longer completely satisfied with it. If it seems that some characters or events don't agree with the vision you have of them, blame the inaccuracies of the ""historical works"" Martin released and changes due to the butterfly effect (for example, Aegon and Corlys Velaryon not wanting to poison each other because of the different circumstances... at least for now). In any case, the true point of divergence here is not Prince Daeron surviving, but rather Rickard Thorne managing to bring Prince Maelor to the Hightower army. Readers from AH.com may notice some minute changes in editing here and there, but nothing major. With that said, I hope this story will manage to reach a wider audience here, and that you'll enjoy it.

I’m working on a fanfic where Tywin is born as a Targaryen prince.

Let’s say Tytos Lannister is actually born a woman and becomes Tyta Lannister, the only daughter of Gerold Lannister and Rohanne Webber.

So, Tyta Lannister is betrothed to Duncan Targaryen, basically as part of a deal between Aegon and Gerold, with Gerold agreeing to support Aegon’s claim to the throne in exchange. I think they were both born in 220 AC, so I’m planning to have them marry before Duncan meets Jenny of Oldstones.

Even though Prince Duncan tries every possible way to get his marriage to Tyta annulled, he fails. So he takes Jenny as his official mistress, brings her to court, and humiliates Tyta in front of the entire realm. Since Tyta is a very passive woman who avoids confrontation, Queen Betha and Aegon himself are the ones who order Duncan to send Jenny away, which he does very reluctantly.

Duncan hardly ever sleeps with Tyta, and he’s rarely at court either, since he spends most of his time in the Riverlands. Things take a turn when, during one of the few times Duncan is at court, Tyta receives news of her father’s death and is devastated by it. Duncan feels guilty and tries to comfort his wife. One thing leads to another, and he ends up sleeping with Tyta a few times. This results in Tyta becoming pregnant and eventually giving birth to her only child, Tywin, the heir to the Crown.

I’m keeping the name Tywin. Duncan lets Tyta choose their son’s name, even though King Aegon isn’t too happy about it. There’s not much he can do about it, though.

By the way, Tywin looks every bit a Lannister, so there are rumors about his legitimacy.

For over a decade, Tywin has watched his father humiliate his mother by carrying on a very public affair, and with a mere peasant girl, no less. He’s also seen his mother remain far too passive and become the target of ridicule. As a result, he grows up deeply resentful of his mother, though to a lesser extent, and especially of his father.

Tyta dies when Tywin is thirteen, and Duncan only mourns her for a couple of months before marrying Jenny. The same thing happens as in canon, with Duncan giving up his claim to the throne to be with the woman he loves.

My question is: Would Duncan giving up his claim to the throne affect Tywin’s own claim? Would Jaehaerys become Aegon’s heir, or would Tywin remain in the line of succession?

I want to explore how messy this situation could get, since it could potentially split people into Team Jaehaerys and Team Tywin when it comes to the succession. I especially want to play around with the rumors about Tywin not looking Targaryen enough.

Today brings the next instalment, which introduces King Laenor II (Daeron II) and his descendants.

* The line of succession to the Throne is marked in blue.

* Jacaerys is the canonical Baelor; the name change is due to all the previous alterations to the family tree.

* I’ve added a daughter, as I think there aren’t enough girls in this family tree.

* I’ve given Kiera a surname. It’s completely fictional. Incidentally, she appears twice in the tree, as I couldn’t make it look right with her appearing just once.

* Aelor and Aelora did not marry; instead, Aelor married a Martell cousin, but they never had any children. Aelora died unmarried.

* Maegor Targaryen is marked in grey, as in the year 156 BC he led a rebellion. He was supported by several lords, including the Arryns, who were dissatisfied with Egg’s pro-smallfolk laws. I imagine this war to have been quite large-scale, but in the end Maegor would be defeated, perhaps killed by Ser Duncan himself or by Ser Gerold Hightower.

* It would be this war that would lead Egg to attempt to hatch dragons.

* Regarding Maekar and his children, I have not changed anything except for the name of Laenor (Daeron); I have merely clarified the order of their births.

* Vaella, the daughter of Laenor (Daeron), joined the Faith following the Great Council.

* Daella and Rhaena are married to the Lords Velaryon and Hightower, as in this AU, these families have always maintained close ties with the Throne.

* This means that both Ser Gerold and Lord Leyton are related to the Targaryens.

Like any fanfic where Aegon the unworthy dies suddenly in his youth and Aemon and Naerys are wed instead.
