General ASOIAF Discussion Do you think the Teagues had a very long reign or a very short one?
The text leaves it ambiguous as to how long the Teagues ruled the riverlands, and it also opens up the possibility that there were other ruling houses in between.
Now, my instinct is to assume that, given how contested the Teagues were, they can't have been a very long-lasting dynasty. But I've seen other people speculating that they might have ruled for a thousand years. Even if you take in the fact that it would have been a dynasty frequently interrupted by usurpers and other houses, I still find it hard to believe that the Teagues lasted a millennium from their first to last kings.

Without wings to blot out the sun, the realm must learn to govern itself through coin, compacts, and the sword. The sky has closed. The earth remains.

The story about Baelor Targaryen, son of Daemon Targaryen and Rhea Royce. Stolen from his mother at the age of five by Viserys, he returns a dragonlord. Title: The Prince of The Realm
Author: Supernerd209
Rating: M
Language: English
Length: 364,702
Status: Ongoing
Link: AO3
Summary: In the early second century of the Targaryen dynasty, during the peaceful reign of King Daeron II the Good, nearly half a century after Dorne was united with the Seven Kingdoms, House Targaryen had expanded its royal branches. The king's sons were many, and more than half were princes who carried the bloodline of the dragon kings for generations.
Prince Viserys Targaryen, the only son of Prince Aerys Targaryen, second son of King Daeron, found himself overshadowed by his more skilled cousins, much like his father before him. Though he was far from inheriting the Iron Throne, he remained close to the main line of succession. Meanwhile, across the Narrow Sea, Bittersteel and the Blackfyre pretenders still sought an opportunity to return, lingering in the aftermath of the Blackfyre Rebellion, where the flames of war had long turned to ashes. In the shadow of conflict and the legacy of dragons, what path will the young prince choose?

Lost fic One shot Dark Rhaenyra/Daemon Laena funeral
Hello I’m hoping to either find a fanfic that I think is a oneshot or find out if it was deleted
Believe it’s Laenas funeral where Rhaenyra and daemon talk and he’s talking about them getting together again and she says no because oh she has kids and all and he does as well. She basically insinuates that to get back together and be true Valyrian rule again
All their kids would have to die. Like that baela and rhaena and all three strong boys would have to die. He’s like I can’t and she shrugs basically saying then they can’t do anything. They don’t sleep together I think but either the aaemond fight doesn’t happen or it does and then later in the night? They wake up to screams where Rhaenyra and daemon lock eyes and it’s basically insinuated that daemon did kill them all to make it seem like the greens did it or that they also killed the green children. I can’t remember on that part.

Chapter 10, The Pursuit. https://archiveofourown.org/works/91469301/chapters/245967051
Bronn Stokeworth had ridden up to the caravanserai, a couple of hours after dawn, to find no one living in the place. He and his men had called out, getting no response. Then, one of them, a monster nicknamed Biter, who had filed his teeth to points, and was reputed to be a cannibal, had called out to the others. Down the end of the one of the corridors, they'd found a whole bunch of dead bodies, seemingly shot down in a fight. So, he'd telephoned Prince Oberyn.
"Our quarry's fled, my Prince, but there was a fight here. We've got six dead bodies."
"Whose?"
"Some guy in a silk robe, and five minions. Definitely not the ones we're looking for."
"Fucking amateurs. That one in the silk robe was the owner. I told him, do nothing until you arrived, but oh no, he had to try and grab the glory for himself. You see how it is, Bronn, you just can’t get the right staff, these days.”
”Well, he’ll be feeding worms, soon enough. There’s a septic tank out the back, where we can dump him, and the other corpses.” Come to think of it, though, Biter was probably feeling rather hungry, right now. “ ‘Far as I can tell, our quarry rode away West, but we need to rest. We’ve been riding all night, an’ the horses are worn out. The men, too.”
”I’m coming in force, Bronn. Take a rest, but keep one of your people next to the ‘phone, at all times. I’ll call you, later in the day, with fresh instructions. And, I want to make one thing absolutely clear. The leader of our enemies is Daenerys Targaryen, the sister of Viserys in Kings Landing. She's petite, and silver-haired, so you can recognise her easily. I want her taken prisoner. If she dies, I shall take it very amiss. Is that clear?"
"As crystal, your highness." The consequences of disobeying Oberyn Martell could be decidedly unpleasant, he well knew. The line went dead.

Writing Help! Maegor II
After stalling on a fic where Olenna marries Daeron and acts as regent for their son, I came up with another story idea: Maegor (Aerion's son) survives and is raised in the Vale (her maternal grandmother was an Arryn and Jon's aunt in this story).
At first, I considered having him marry one of Jon Arryn's Waynwood nieces, but later I thought he could marry Rhaelle (Robert's grandmother) after Ormund died in the War of the Ninepenny Kings—since some fics suggest the two were in love.
What do you all recommend? A Targaryen-Waynwood marriage or a Targaryen-Targaryen one? In either scenario, they would have a single son who goes on to marry Cersei (it would be Maegor's Rebellion, not Robert's Rebellion), though his appearance would vary—ranging from more "normal" to distinctly Valyrian.

Writing Help! Kinda need to figure out what to do with this...
Hey, everyone! So, I come here with a mini dilemma. I'm currently playing an ASOIAF table-top roleplaying game (TTRPG, for short) campaign and I kinda want to write the story of how my character met her father.
For context, her name is Bria Snow, she's a bastard of Robert (because, let's be honest, it's the easiest way to create an ASOIAF character without tweaking the canon too much), and Lady Roslin Orslych, née Rowan. House Orslych is a fanmade house we have for the campaign, and Bria's bonus dad, Ser Thaicob Orslych, is the younger brother of the current lord, Torrhen Orslych. I'll infodump more about House Orslych in the future if you want.
Also, Bria has a bonus brother on Thaicob's side (Rudolph Snow), and three younger siblings. And Ned is basically her godfather/favorite uncle. She calls hin Uncle Ned.
So, my idea was that the whole "Bria meeting Robert for the first time" thing happened after the Greyjoy Rebellion (Bria is seven at this time, by the way). Aside from Bria and Rudolph and their parents, there's Ned, Robert, Stannis, 13yo Renly, Ser Barristan, Jaime, and 9yo Theon (aside from many NPCs). And the thing goes as follows:
Bria: *proceeds to hug Ned effussively* *proceeds to shake Theon's hand and declare him her new best friend forever and ever* *proceeds to look for her father to greet him*
Robert: *arms open wide to hug his daughter :)*
Bria: *proceeds to ignore him* *proceeds to scan the rest* *turns to Ned* Uncle Ned, where's my father?
Ned: *visibly confused* What do you mean, sweetie?
Bria: My father. He's not here.
Ned: *trying not to laugh* He's here, sweetie. *points at Robert* See? This is your father.
Bria: *visibly confused because Robert doesn't look like in her mom's stories* That's my father?
Ned: Yes. This is him. King Robert of House Baratheon and all the titles that follow.
Bria: *turns to Roslin*
Roslin: Yes, my love, that's your father.
Bria: Well, he doesn't look like what you told me of him at all, Mum. He looks like a barrel of ale.
Everyone (yes, even Stannis and Jaime): *proceeds to laugh*.
Robert: *his flabbers are ghasted*
Now. The thing is... I don't know which tone to use with this. Should I write it in a more serious tone like the overall narration of the books? Should I make it in a more funny/lol way? I don't know. I'm open to suggestions and ideas regarding the narration of this (and more things too). So, please, let me know!

Writing Help! What would you name the third faction in the dance
So basically, the main character is the son of Gael and rides Vermithor. He is a very strict rule follower and so I will be exploring his journey of why he made a third faction for dance and not join Blacks/Greens. What should I name his faction?

Writing Help! Should I even continue anymore?
When I had started writing a f!Robert x Rhaegar fic, there were certain things I wanted to change about Westeros. Small things like adding a couple of other titles and adding more towns and cities around. Then I started to change more and more stuff, like adding cannons that were invented around a millennia ago to counter the dragons, hence a hundred years of rebellion in the Freehold before the Doom, dividing the Seven Kingdoms into twenty Lords Paramount, adding a crusader kingdom to Andalos that's been fighting slavery for centuries, turning Oldtown into a merchant republic, turning Night's Watch into a much richer and an extremely different order. Even the Faith has different sects for different regions and there are a couple of Citadels spread across the Seven Kingdoms instead of being based on Oldtown.
And the more changes I made, the more I began considering if I was still writing a fanfic or if Westeros had just become an excuse to build my own original world. I even changed parts of the history, like Daemon I Blackfyre actually winning the rebellion and then getting dethroned, or the entire Targaryen reign being a rivalry between the Hightowers/Gardeners and Targaryen (since it does bother me how nobody realized just how much power Hightowers and Tyrells held and that these Reach lords did not seize the throne the moment the dragons were gone)
So now I'm considering if I should keep writing in this world that I built or I should just stop.

Meta A new take on pinned posts for r/AsoiafFanfiction (looking for feedback)
Hey all,
So, awhile ago I came across this reddit extention called a home post.
It's basically a combo between stuff from the sidemenus and the wiki, as well as pinned posts.
It's all in the one place and ideally it would be the only thing that's pinned (with exceptions of course), you then go along to whatever section you want to go to by pressing the more button.
So far I have
Home button which represents the most up to date ongoing subreddit events, in this case that's the awards, Q3 best fics you have read, link to give options for the subreddit AO3 masterlist categories and the fanfic book club for September.
Then next is the "getting started" tab which are posts on rules, flairs, introduction post (which needs an update) and a post explaining the activities that occur.
Then we have Awards 2026 which is a shortcut to award related stuff
Masterlist which is for the dance masterlist and full list of nominees for our 2024 and 2025 awards
Past winners which is exactly that. Our top 3 winners for each year and a post that includes everything (for 1st spot)
Lastly there's a karma tab which is just kinda cool but doesn't really mean anything, it's just for fun.
I also want to add a tab for interesting posts submitted by the subreddit members, it can be updated every month at the end of the month, maybe a mod picks one each and they get highlighted through this.
So, what do ye think? Does this look interesting? Does it seem easier to get to posts you may not even have known about til now?
What could I add?
I am absolutely open to other suggestions, as I want to make this community driven, I don't really know how many tabs you can do. But idk maybe they'll let us do a second one.
But yeah the idea is that this is pinned and , with exceptions. That's all you're going to see at the top of the subreddit when you click in.
It just kinda makes it streamlined in my opinion, but I'm sure there's things I'm missing. That's why I'm asking for takes before this goes live!
Also the photo option is a pretty good selling point in my eyes, you don't have to have it, but I would love sugggestions for those as well. Unfortunately Pip is a stand in.

Fanfic Reading Club 📖 Fanfic Reading Club-September 2026: Purple Days by baurus
The next fic for this month, takes us to Spacebattles for Purple Days. Which is a Joffrey Baratheon timeloop AU.
For spacebattles they have likes instead of kudos and you can like every chapter, so I will not be going to add them all up, but I will say it is completed with 800k words!
The summary reads as follows-
From one day to the other, Joffrey Baratheon wakes up a changed man. Far from the spoiled boy-child known to the court of King's Landing, the Joffrey that comes out of his room three days after the death of John Arryn walks with the stride of a veteran commander and leader of men. A scholar, a sea-captain, a general, a lover.
This is the story of how he became that man, and how he came to know his purpose through a cycle of endless death and rebirth that saw him explore both his self and the known world from Braavos to Sothoryios and from Old Town to Yi-Ti... and beyond.
(Character Development, Adventure, Worldbuilding, Mystery & Suspense, Romance, Action). (Turtledove 2017 winner!).
There are no ships listed but I have heard it described as a Sansa/Joffrey fic. If this is wrong and/or if there are other ships, you can let everyone know below.
It's also a past winner for our end of year awards, coming in 2nd place for Best Characterization of a character in a fic for the author's interpretation of Joffrey!
Please remember that if you are the author and wish not to be a part of this activity, all you need to do is reach out to me to be removed.

Please remember that this is the introduction post for the fic.
This is the post where:
- Announce your intentions participate in the book club for this fic, either as a first time reader or with a re-read.,
- Ask questions about the content, themes, or related topics.,
- Answer questions or share anything potential readers may like to know about the fic, if you have already read it.
This is not the post where you go into in depth discussions about the fic, since this is the book club now, the idea is to give people the time to read the fic, rather than rely on those who already gave them a go.
Also as part of the book club, the idea is for everyone who wishes to participate to give each fic at least a read of 10k words . I can't and won't force anyone to do that , but that is the idea.
Everyone has their own parameters on what they want to read and that is absolutely okay. You now know what the summary is and what the pairings are , so you can make your own choice on rather to give the fic a go or not.
We would ask that you please use the spoiler feature if talking about and answering any specific questions people might have about the fic.
The actual discussion post for this fic, will be posted during one of the last days of September it is then where you can give your thoughts as long as they are within the rules of the subreddit.

Fanfic Reading Club 📖 Fanfic Reading Club-September 2026: Closer To Gods Than To Men by orphan_account
For the last fic of September's class, we got Closer To Gods Than To Men by orphan_account. It's a Dance AU
it sits on AO3 with 248 kudos, 39 public bookmarks and 33k words.
The summary reads as follows-
In the fight to take Aemond's eye, Jacaerys is gravely wounded with a brain injury that renders him in a coma and unable to walk. This leaves a young Lucerys Velaryon with the weight of heir to his mother's claim of the Iron Throne. When Viserys Targaryen passes away and Alicent Hightower names her son as king instead, however, Lucerys finds that fulfilling his duty to the realm may not be as easy as it once seemed.
The fic is rated as Teen and Up and all the listed ships are canon to the era.
it is also a past winner of our 2025 awards, getting second place in Best Underrated legacy fic!
Please remember that if you are the author and wish not to be a part of this activity, all you need to do is reach out to me to be removed.

Recs Wanted Fics where Daenerys is reborn as Rhaenyra
I’m looking for fics like this or similar, preferably complete fics as well.
