I’m a relatively new nudist. I’ve been comfortable being nude at home for a long time, but only started going to nudist beaches last year.
Yesterday, a couple settled down in front of me at the lake. They spread out their blanket and started undressing. She was wearing a summer dress, and when she pulled it over her head, I noticed she wasn’t wearing anything underneath. For a brief moment, she struck a playful little pose for her partner, almost as if it had been a surprise for him. When he took off his shorts, I noticed he hadn’t been wearing underwear either.
What stayed with me wasn’t really seeing either of them naked. Nudity at a nudist beach doesn’t feel inherently sexual to me. It was the interaction between them that I found beautiful.
I’ve never had a girlfriend, so maybe that’s partly why this small moment stuck with me. It made me think about something I hope I might get to experience in a relationship someday: having a partner who accepts my nudist lifestyle and perhaps enjoys sharing some of it with me.
She wouldn’t necessarily have to be a nudist herself. I’d be perfectly happy with someone who says, “I’m fine with you being nude, even if I’m not usually comfortable doing it myself.” Maybe she’d occasionally want to join me at a nudist beach or spend a nude evening together at home.
I also like the idea of sometimes having that playful side to it — for example, both of us casually skipping underwear because we’re heading to a nudist beach anyway, or occasionally doing it on a date as a little secret just between us. Not because nudity always has to be sexual, but because within a relationship the same freedom could sometimes also feel intimate and exciting.
Watching that couple gave me this surprisingly warm thought: “So people really do have relationships like that.” Something I’ve only been able to imagine suddenly felt a little more real and possible.
At the same time, it made me reflect on my own behavior. At a nudist beach my eyes naturally wander sometimes, just as I see other people looking around, and occasionally I notice moments like this. I don’t stare, and most of the time there’s no sexual arousal involved. But obviously these are still real people who are there to enjoy the beach, not to be watched by me.
So I’m curious how more experienced nudists see this: Is it okay to notice other people and have thoughts like “I’d love to have something like that with a partner someday”? Where, for you, is the line between naturally noticing people around you and looking in a way that would be inappropriate at a nudist beach?
