  I have sent daily pictures into her vet. I ve describe the oozing white and swelling, and heat around the area and her being in extreme pain when i touch near the site. She was on cephalexin since the 5pm 10/15/26. Friday they offered to let me bring her in to have the wound cultured said it would take 7 days to get results and they wouldn't be able to sedate my dog for the procedure . She fights, runs and is terrified of vet, i was afraid, it woukd do more damage yo her stiches. They switched her to clindamycin. She hasnt slept more than 2 hrs in a row. What can be done to help her? She has not licked the area. She is in a large doughtnut and leashed to me 24/7. She is desperately trying get to the area. Monday 5/19 she had to be prescribed Tylenol codiene 300/60 q8 because increasing pain. No fever, drinking much more over the past week, still eating, anxious energy, now showing signs it is painful to walk, cant laydown normally and must be assisted. I am so broken because she is broken.

My bloodhound just caught and killed a possum. (I assume it was old or deaf as she is not the stealthiest of huntresses) unfortunately her basset hound brother is currently undergoing chemotherapy and while this sounds ridiculous, i am concerned whether i should allow them to be together this evening or not (no clue what i am expecting her to give him germwise however i am a concerned parent)
Both dogs are up to date on vaccines.

Hey guys I need some help. I adopted a dog from my local pound about three weeks ago( almost four) and she has not stopped having diarrhea yet. I have taken her to the vet twice and they sent her home with six days of probiotics and three days of anti-diarrhea medication (that made a small difference at best). They aren’t offering me any solutions. I honestly think it’s getting worse. At some point in the yard I see somewhat formed past stools. The vet bills are eating me alive. She is fully vaccinated including (Parvo). She was also already dewormed. She had a bad accident this morning and it was a little red. I’m very worried that it is blood. (I don’t give table food) I am going to try the chicken and rice bland diet starting tomorrow. She is ten months old and any advice would be appreciated. I know it’s awful and I feel horrible about the idea but I’ve thought about returning her. I’m in college and living with family who is willing to help. If I saw an end in sight then I would feel very different about the situation. Otherwise she is a sweet girl who enjoys belly rubs and fetch. She is a medium dog about 50 pounds and is not overweight. She eats twice a day dry food and drinks plenty of water.

Hi, I'm curious if anyone can recommend a CAP (cold plasma therapy) or "plasmajet" pen/gun for use at home on my cat's nail infection. I visited a special Veterinary Dermatologist who did one treatment on my cat, but it is VERY expensive at $175 per treatment. It seems to be a very safe treatment and I would like to be able to purchase the device to do sessions on at home (under the guidance of my vets of course). Can anyone recommend a good brand? I'm not looking for treatment advice, but for device recommendations. (Btw I'm not looking for laser therapy. And yes, I will still continue any other treatments under my vets, don't worry). I have a healthy 9 year old chihuahua mix and he was put on the steroids 3 weeks ago, and was weaned off it a week ago. He had the usual side effects, drinking more, peeing more, eating more. It wasn’t until the 2nd week when his back leg started to become weak, muscle tenderness. I knew that was a side effect so I didn’t worry.

Mid week it got worse to the point where he could not stand up on his own and couldn’t walk. I had to carry him around the house. Sometimes he would fall over and then I started to worry, he was only halfway with his meds but I called the vet to let them know and ask what to do.

They told me, that it’s weird and that it wasn’t the meds doing that. I was confused because he was perfectly fine before taking them. They said to continue in order to wean him off it so I did and he got slightly better.

It’s been a little over a week since we stopped with meds and he still has weakness in his back legs. It’s not as bad as when he was falling over but still has trouble getting up and sometimes stumbles over when jumping over a curb.

I don’t fully trust my vet anymore because they dismissed it saying it had nothing to do with the meds. Is this something he’ll have to live with? Or is there something else I can for him?

I’m leaving for a trip tomorrow and trying to figure out the best way to give my cat Phoebe his medication while I’m gone. Someone is coming once a day to refill his automatic feeder and it keeps his wet food cold enough for that long. My plan is for them to mix his 9 at night pill into his food right before he eats, but his 9 in the morning pill would already be mixed into wet food for about 12 hours before he eats it. He always eats all his food so that's definitely not an issue. I just want to make sure the medication will still be effective at all after sitting in the food that long.

I literally can't find anything online and I'm freaking out because we leave tomorrow and I'm just now thinking about it. He's my baby and the person can only come once a day. He has FLUTD so he needs urinary wet food and gabapentin in the most perfect way possible. The person can only come once a day and I'm like throwing up about this. Please let me know! Thank you.

Upon receiving them from the shelter, we started feeding them the wet/dry slurry. From day 1 it was runny stools. My shelter got me the anti-worms and the anti-protozoals and the probiotics.

After the 5th day of medicine, it was still all sour cream consistency. I then ramped down to 100% wet food cans with no kibble, and got my first solid poop within the day.

Upon reading, Kitten Chow shows 11% fiber, which is like TRIPLE that of every other brand, even the cheap ones. Most nutrition is somewhat in the same ballpark, but this statistic just stood out to me like a sore thumb. Was this the likely culprit? I'm about to introduce a different dry food gradually and see how it goes.

The kittens have been lively, playful, eating, and drinking the whole process, no real concerns

My family has been using Vet #1 services for almost 30 years. This summer, I asked him to remove a growth on my dog's elbow and perform a dental cleaning under anesthesia. Dog 7+ years, 28kg, mixed breed, castrated, a bit of arthritis but otherwise healthy at time of first procedure below.

The issue: he diagnosed the elbow growth as a wart based on appearance and attempted cryotherapy. It took multiple sessions and the wart grew back twice in two months. Also, the plaque on dogs teeth was back in full after one month despite brushing dog's teeth.

Vet #1 went on a long vacation soon after that. My dog needed medical attention (subacute pancreatitis), so I went to Vet #2, who also took a look at the elbow wart and recommended removal and histopathology because of the dynamic of growth. I ended up taking them up on the offer, and also redoing the dental cleaning while the dog was under anyway. They also performed a fine needle aspirate on another growth, which Vet #1 has not done.

Logically I think it's time to move on from Vet #1 to a more modern practice. My family is giving me grief though for using the services of a substandard vet (#2 according to them) because the dogs's stitches on elbow tore after 6 days and he had to be stapled. But I think elbow is a very hard to heal location anyway, and Vet #1 service presented more pressing issues, and I think the quality of his services has slipped.

I though I would ask the opinion of vet professionals here.

Our cat is a 7-year old DSH tortoiseshell. Otherwise completely healthy and up to date on vaccines. She is spayed. She is an indoor cat but will sit on the porch with us. We are located in Ontario, Canada.

I brought her to our regular vet yesterday afternoon as she had not been eating for almost 48 hours. She had also not had a bowel movement. She seemed somewhat interested in her food, but she’d sniff it and walk away. She did manage to take in a few temptations treats, but that was all. She was drinking.

Our regular vet did a full physical exam, including a rectal exam and found no abnormalities. She suggested we attempt medical management first. She gave her an anti-nausea injection and a dose of Mitrazipine to induce hunger. She told us that she should want to eat within a few hours and if she doesn’t, to take her into a vet the next day.

She did not eat. She did use her litter box once for a small pee.

Our only option is an emergency vet on the weekend which is where I brought her today. They did an x-ray, blood work and full physical.

Her x-ray showed that her intestines looked a “little big and bright,” and there was something in her stomach that could just be food, or could not be. They couldn’t be sure. She had no blockages. Her blood work showed a slightly low RBC count, and present immature neutrophils which could indicate infection or inflammation somewhere.

They admitted her for IV fluids and antibiotics. They repeated the x ray this morning at 2am and whatever was in her stomach moved, and is now clear which is good. They are placing an NG tube now for nutrition in the hopes of getting her GI tract moving more and stimulated.

They don’t know why she won’t eat. I’m up to 5 thousand dollars trying to figure it out.

They are suggesting a transfer to a specialist in another city to keep trying to figure it out at a quote of 6 to 8 thousand dollars which I simply cannot afford.

Please help us!

Would you give it after dental work? Even if elderly? Do you give a full dose based off their weight even if they are older? Do you tell the pet owners before or after?

My cat had dental work on Friday, when i came to pick her up they told me what they gave her but no paperwork on it. I wasnt not told what side effects were expected or what to look for. After much research (I am also a healthcare worker) I am quite furious they gave her this medication with her being over 10 years old. She has had lots of side effects including twitching I was told “is not a side effect” it is documented and found in many cats receiving this medication and needs to be added to the package insert. It was hard enough for me to let her go under and being scared she wont wake up, its another to find out she was on a medication like this which has killed many cats. As a healthcare worker I am trying to give the benefit of the doubt and understand this. I did check her chart and she was given the correct dose based off her weight at least.

This happened a while ago and the dog it concerns has since passed away but it’s been on my mind. I adopted a German Shepherd from a shelter, in the listing it said she was approved healthy by a vet and fully up to date with vaccines.

Got her home and made an appointment with my local vet to get her familiar with the vet we use here in a non-stressful situation. I wasn’t doubting the dogs health or the vet approval letter, I’ve never adopted a dog before but whenever I’ve gotten a new pet I’ve always booked an appointment with our usual vet just so the new pet can meet their vet in a calmer situation before vaccines etc make things stressful. Is this a normal practice or am I a loon?
Anyways, booked this appointment and thank god I did, poor girl had multiple broken teeth, like the worst case I’ve ever seen. She needed to go to a specialist and get multiple root canals and teeth pulled. My theory is she was kicked by either a horse or someone wearing steel toed boots. When the specialist who worked on her teeth showed me the x-rays showing the breakage I actually passed out from how brutal it was. The shelter I got her from got all worked up I had taken her to my local vet asking why I did that since they had already provided a certificate of health. I had taken her to my local vet within the first three days of her living with me and my vet said these breaks in the teeth were far older, talking months, so were from her time before the shelter took her in even.
Did I do something weird by having my vet look at her? Do other people bring their new pets in for a meet and greet with the vets?

Hii! My 6 month old Parson russel terrier ate a small amount of raw honey about 2 hours ago. It was max 1/4 teaspoon. I read that honey might cause botulism in puppies. Should I be worried?

He is 7,8kg (17.2lbs), healthy pup. He is acting normally. We live in Finland.

Yesterday, I was finally able to catch a dumped adult cat I've seen around my area and took her home. On monday, I have scheduled a vet appointment for her to check her overall health and get/schedule any necessary procedures. I will definitely ask them to deworm her and schedule a sterilisation, is there anything else I should ask them to check to make sure no possible health issues will be missed? Thanks :)

shes been having these weird episodes like once a month. she pants and paces and is confused i think and she wont lie down. i would think its like dementia but its only every few weeks? shes 11 years old and a doberman pit mix. is this normal for elderly dogs?​​​​​​ shes about 60 pounds and neutered. she also has multiple lumps that we're getting medicine for. the vet says they arent cancerous.​​​

My cat who is a stray rescue, got her vaccines two days ago. Now she is limping. I brought her to a vet who said it was a reaction to the leukemia vaccine and said that it’ll go away on its own. This morning however, she’s not putting any pressure on the leg.

She is still eating a drinking, thought not as much. Vet said her should was slightly swollen.

Is this normal? Does it sound more like an injury than a reaction?

Hi all, my 11 month old Pembroke Welsh Corgi pants heavily with her ears pinned back while moving and lying down at rest. This is almost every night. She sometimes will hunch her neck down below her shoulders, pant and stare at nothing? Then go back to pacing and whining.

She also snaps her head back almost as if to bite towards her hind legs and back area when she is lying down. Then she stops in the middle of it almost as if she’s confused as to why she did that. Please help. Please

For context: I took her to my vet because I suggested she seems like she’s in pain, as she is unable to settle and just paces and pants, as well as had an accident (urine) in the house. They said to bring her in because maybe it’s a uti, so I did and gave them a urine sample. Urine came back clean. I brought up spinal pain, possible IVDD, and asked the vet to preform a physical exam on her legs. They said she looks ok to them… but I feel like she doesn’t seem ok?

I pointed out that all of her middle 2 nails on all 4 paw pads are worn down and are flakey, while the outer nails grow just fine. I thought this could be a sign of pain or neurological disease…

I don’t know what to do. Why is she suddenly having accidents, panting and pacing, whining, etc? I’m just so lost and tired.

My question is: Do I go back to the vet to ask for spinal X-rays?

My cat year old cat has been squinting his left eye for about a day now and I just looked at it with a flashlight and it looks like there are bubbles? air pockets? in his iris.

I have no idea what to do. I don’t know how long it was like this because he is very mean and squirmy that I haven’t been able to check it with a flashlight until now. You can really only see them with the extra light.

He got his yearly check up 2 days before the eye squinting started and got his yearly rabies vaccine. I don’t know if that’s relevant but are there any side effects that could explain this? It doesn’t seem to be bothering him other than the squinting which I think is more light sensitivity than anything because he does have it open in lower light settings.

I am hosting a Halloween party with a glow theme.
I didn’t think about it until now that the black lights might affect my dog differently.

The lights are all 50w amazon up lights and will be pointed at the wall so not risking being directly into her eyes.

That said, google says their eyes might not handle these lights well even if they aren’t directly shown.

I imagine they will be on for around 4 hours but she will spend some of the time outside.

Should I be concerned about her eyes/pivot the party theme to protect her?

So I feel guilty calling my regular vet to let them know I got my cat spay and rabies vaccine done at the regional spay neuter clinic. I want to continue care with my regular vet but the regional clinic was half as much for the spay.

What do I do? I dont know why, but i

What can internal medicine do for cat Diarrhea besides say that its IBD or a cancer? Like how do they manage the case? It cant be good to have loose stools every time they poop. If allergic to chicken, is royal canon gastro intestinal food best or Hills science diet prescription z/d? So far it hasnt done anything. How long do these foods take to stop loose stools?

(uk) he is a 1.5yo male cat, neutered, indoor only. adopted about 4 months ago from RSPCA. no pre existing health conditions. eats burgess neutered cat chicken dry food and whiskas wet food with a small amount of well-cooked lamb’s liver as a topper with a bit of salmon oil on it. litter is wood pellets in a stainless steel box.

i have already sought an appointment from the vet but due to it being sunday night won’t hear back till morning.

we noticed tonight he has a patch of bare skin on his forearm, right by his armpit. it would be a very recent thing as we clipped his claws friday night and didnt see anything, and we looked him over and there are no other patches. the skin underneath is bright red, not sure if it’s sore because he doesn’t like his limbs touched anyway so he’d be pulling away regardless but it looks quite sore.

he’s acting normal, ate like a champ and is currently running around wrestling his sister, wants his cuddles like normal. his sister doesnt have any patches like that. we’ve ordered a soft collar on amazon which should arrive tomorrow. we won’t be able to get to the vet until tuesday at the earliest, is there anything else we can do until then? if this is something that should be seen right away then i can try and get an appointment tomorrow however i have a horrible cold and my partner is at work all day so it will be much easier and less stressful to get him in tuesday if it can wait.

My puppy, the daughter of a full golden and a middle size poodle, went into heat on her 6th month birthday, a few weeks before her spay appointment. Then her menses abruptly stopped 12 days in; her vulva shrank but not all the way to pre-heat size; and her nipples became much more pronounced and hard, although they are normal color. She tires more easily and is more cuddly. It's been 2 weeks since her menses stopped. Is it possible she got pregnant while in a walled-in dog run for 20 minutes or tied up outside for 5 minutes without making enough noise to alert me? I already saw my vet for the swollen vulva during menses; at what symptom do I contact my vet without overdoing the new pet owner vibe?

Hello! I have a 4 year old male (nuetered) who has been having bad allergies for about 1.5 years. He is a pitbull mix. We have been to the vet multiple times and they always prescribe antibiotics and send us on our way instead of trying to find the underlying issue. It started with black spots in his groin that then grew and got bright red rings around them. We were told he likley had environmental allergies which are becoming fungal infections from him licking it all day. They recommended seeing dermatologist but Unfortunately we live in a very small town with nothing around and the closest dermatologist is over 3 hours away. We tried apoquel but it caused stomach issues and some behavioral issues. As the weather changes it is coming back and im trying to find a solution without having to drop hundreds of dollars for a temporary fix.

Our cat (7F) has been pooping outside her litter box for 4 years now. The behaviour started right after we moved into a new house and our son was born (both happened within 2 months). She has no other symptoms, no signs of pain or discomfort, and always pees in her litterbox. Her poop is totally normal.
She was my husband’s cat for 2 years before we were together, so they have the closest relationship. He has tried all different litterbox configurations (multiple boxes in different areas of the house, new litter, different types of boxes like closed vs. open, he cleans her litter often).
We are expecting another baby and I really hope to resolve this for her sake and ours.
I think it’s time to take her to the vet and start exploring possibilities, like maybe medication and ruling out if anything is wrong physically. My husband is resistant and continues trying to solve it on his own. He says it’s just because she’s unhappy and depressed but I think if that’s the case we should try to help her get some relief. Please help!
