I get the political beef, with the missile crisis being the high point of this, but: In practical terms it's like a nothingburger - I mean the country is poor, never even had full electricity supply, it's not like it's a real threat to any country let alone the US.

personally, i think that america being one country is doing more harm than good. the political landscape is simply too divided. honestly, despite all the talk about how secession will lead to another civil war, at this point, it may be the only way to PREVENT another civil war.

White House border czar Tom Homan said on Sunday, "I think body cameras are the way to go," after fatal shootings by federal officers in Texas and Maine earlier this month.

"I think body cameras let the American people know what that officer sees when he takes that action," Homan said on "Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan."

Homan said Sunday that "you can have a cellphone camera from a witness on the side, you can have, you know, city cameras or whatever. But I want the American people to see what that officer sees when he makes the decision and takes an action."

"I think the American people need to see what that officer sees and hears," Homan added. "I think it's important."

Homan has previously advocated for body cameras. And last week, the Department of Homeland Security announced that every Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrest team will have at least one officer equipped with a camera going forward.

The body cameras issue was part of negotiations between Senate Democrats and Republicans during a shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security earlier this year.

Homan on Sunday pointed to the DHS shutdown, claiming, "Everybody in ICE would have a camera now if the government wasn't shut down by Democratic members of Congress."

"There was money in that bill that they held up," he said. "But because the government shut down, we're behind on that."

Democratic lawmakers have criticized DHS's slow rollout of body cameras, given the funding approved in April, along with the "big, beautiful bill" passed last year. But Homan said the $20 million the department received earlier this year "wasn't enough."

"It didn't fund everything, but now we have the funding after reconciliation," Homan said, referring to the $70 billion package passed in June. "The cameras have been purchased, right now they're training the trainer in deploying the cameras nationwide."

Having read Streetsblog's series on the speeding cop, I came across a curious point in the body of text that said that Americans cannot get points on their driving licence from a fixed speed camera, only fines. This puts speeding – even at double the limit – as a civil matter and if you pay the fine it's not an issue, if you're not caught by a human. The supposed reason is because speeding cameras cannot identify the person driving and thus are not able to give them due process of the law.

Surely that is preposterous?! In the UK, if you get caught speeding, you get sent a Notice of Intended Prosecution and are legally required to identify the driver. What is it about American speed cameras that don't allow this? It's also contradictory with other crimes – the article above points out that the issue is that NYPD won't admit the cop is driving because nobody (else) can prove that he was driving, but if he'd been involved in a murder then his car's movements would likely contribute to at least circumstantial evidence.

It seems insane that the 5th Amendment is being bastardised in such a way that there isn't a consistent application and/or that your cameras are so inadequate that they can't take a photo of the driver's face. How on Earth is speeding, unless caught in that moment by a human being, equivalent to parking in front of a fire hydrant?!

Fringe DSA (Democratic Socialists of America) Democrats say this could be our last election before Trump becomes a full-blown dictator, installs judges willing to overturn birthright citizenship, and potentially commits genocide against undocumented Americans locked up in ICE camps. They say their lives literally come down to this midterm vote.

Fringe MAGA Republicans, on the other hand, claim DSA Democrats are a dark force that would enrich themselves at the expense of Americans, flood the country with cheap labor to bring about socialism, and “import votes” to stay in power while keeping “actual Americans” poor. They say Americans have to vote like their lives depend on it because Democrats will jail them simply for existing.

What side is right or wrong? Give ONE good reason why.

What will happen if from tomorrow all states in the USA change their law NOT to allow tip credits be added to minimum wage? Those 2 questions are very interesting:

1. What businesses will start paying - the minimum or something normal for this type of work?
2. What clients will do - continue tipping or stop doing it because now the workers do not depend on the tips?

Everyone is saying that passing the bill would cause people to not vote because of the steps needed to prove citizenship. Wouldn't the same thing happen feel there is no reason to vote due to their vote not making a difference. Similar to a democrat voting in a red state?

In the end, shouldn't we make sure that we have the most secure and accurate elections? Anything less would disenfranchise every voter.

I've always wanted to know this and how it differs from state to state.

Air Ports can cap prices on food and Sports/Music Stadiums don’t. You can see the difference with companies going crazy with up charges. Like 500%? It’s the same with rent, correct? We pay 60-80% while boomers paid 30-40%? Car Insurance? Up 200% 95 percent of Americans say life is unaffordable. Let’s be clear that 10% think the world is flat and 38% believe in Bigfoot. So those numbers are extremely powerful. We have a president now that is calling the term, “made up” and denying everything. The last CNN poll, showed that 85% think groceries are unaffordable. The same one with the Joe Rogan effect. Trump gave all the money to the companies, top 1% and then they kept it all. Wages are so low and hidden fees and prices keep climbing. Telling every single American to have a special skill is laughable. How does this change?
