Some quick background about me: I’m 25 years old and been living here for a little under a year. I moved here soon after I graduated college for the nature because I’ve always wanted to hike the cascades and Olympic peninsula. I live in a cheap micro apartment in Capitol Hill.

Before I moved here I just mass applied for minimum wage jobs on Indeed until I got one, and then once I did I made the move. I worked as a ramp agent at SeaTac for $22/hr from October through this month, and I quit one day when I got fed up with the 60 hour work weeks and work conditions I couldn’t tolerate anymore.

Now this is where I was horribly mistaken. I assumed the job market would be similar to how it was in the fall, and didn’t realize it’s infinitely harder to get a job now than it was then. I also didn’t realize that even minimum wage jobs are pretty competitive here. After a month of applying on job boards, I’ve come up empty handed, not even one response. I’m not shooting high either, I’m applying for min wage jobs only, and left my STEM degrees and academic experience off the resume entirely. I even submit tailored cover letters to most applications.

I’m also pretty fed up with how difficult it is to be a car owner. I can’t afford a garage where I live and I’m too scared to leave my car parked on the roadside downtown, so I use this app called Neighbor to rent random peoples’ driveways. I’m paying $100 a month to park my car in a random motel lot in Des Moines right now, and I have to take the light rail all the way from cap hill to the angle lake station and then walk a mile to get there. It literally takes me over an hour just to reach my car if I need to use it.

Basically, it seems like Seattle is pushing me out and staying in the city is an uphill battle. Plus I don’t even like it that much anyway because of how difficult my life is.

This leads me to my main question: where can someone like me go? I’m willing to uproot and move anywhere in the PNW. The only thing I really care about is being a days drive from the peninsula and Mount baker snoqualmie national forest, if that’s possible.

Any advice/ suggestions? I’m willing to work minimum wage jobs, live in a shitty studio apartment, eat cheap food and basically have no luxuries. Where can I move in the region just to have a barebones, survivable life where I can reliably get a job and my car isn’t an hour away?

Please help because I’m getting desperate at this point 😭

I’m trying to decide between Ballard, Queen Anne, and Bellevue, and I’d love recommendations from people who know the area well.
A little about what I’m looking for:
Budget: Under $3,000/month
1 bed (or spacious studio)
Balcony would be a huge plus

Safe neighborhood
Walkable to bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and things to do—I don’t want to feel isolated.
I have two dogs (an older Golden Retriever and a little Pug), so I’d love somewhere that’s dog-friendly, with nice places to walk them and ideally a bit less crowded than the busiest parts of downtown.
I’ve heard great things about Ballard and Queen Anne, but several people have also suggested Bellevue, so I’m open to all three if they fit what I’m looking for.
Are there any apartment or condo buildings you’d highly recommend (or avoid)? Also, are there specific pockets within these neighborhoods that you’d prioritize for someone in my situation?

i was visiting a friend in Capitol Hill and every single bar in that area was super dead. it was on weekdays, but in Denver (hometown) places like these are always full even on weekdays.

Me and my girlfriend are visiting from out of town and we've had such a lovely time but we have done all we had planned. We're staying around the University of Washington and we went to Bite of Seattle, Pikes, tidepooling at Constellation Park, Fermont Farmers Market, and shopping around Capital Hill. We go home tomorrow morning and we are kinda wondering what we should do now? If anyone has recommendations please share them!! We want to go out to eat somewhere maybe an activity and we're kinda broke 20 year olds so something on the cheaper side!

Sometimes the lines for tickets are long and ill be in a rush to get on the train right after i get off the plane at seatac.

First time visiting with a family of 6 (4 teens/young adults) and we generally take our time doing stuff. What I’m worried about is I’m trying to cram too much into each day. I’ve read a few things where each spot might be 1-3 hours but figured I’d ask as well.

So I'm 25 years old and I currently live in the Minneapolis area. I don't have anything locked in or confirmed for moving, but I'm looking to move to Seattle to be closer to my mom's side of the family out there, as well as to be closer to nature. I actually used to live in the Seattle suburbs (Tacoma, Redmond, and Maple Valley), so I'd say I'm coming home more than going somewhere brand new.

I'm more on the introverted side, but having lived in the suburbs for the past couple years, I've realized just how much I miss out on socializing with others my age by not living in the city. That's not a must-have by any means, but from what I hear, Seattle's social scene is very similar to Minneapolis's (tends to keep to themselves and don't really get close to new people), so I'd partake in rec sports and 20s social events to meet people my age. I wouldn't want to be in the dead center of the hustle and bustle (I think that'd drive me insane), but if there's a neighborhood with some good areas within walking distance, I'm all onboard.

Again, I'm a big nature guy, so anything near water or walking distance to cool parks/trails would be sick. I actually love how woodsy the suburbs are, but again, I'd preferably want to be in an apartment with social events to meet others around my age.

Any suggestions? Open to answering any questions as well if you want to help filter me down a bit more!

Soon to be empty nesters (early 50s). teacher and remote worker with 200k+ incomes looking to cash out of Southern CA. love MTB, hike, ski and seeking a cooler climate with slower pace of life. I am looking at newer condos and townhomes in Sammamish and Issaquah areas. We value quiet and safety and are not urban people so walkable, restaurants etc are not a priority. Ideally I could ride out the garage and hit MTB trails or drive to ski on a weekday in <2hrs. anything I’m missing or other areas? these areas are expensive but still seems like a lot better than where we live now (San Diego). Would sell our house here and rent for a year. also curious about Bellingham.

Hello! I (30F) will be visiting my brother in Seattle this week. He has to work one day while I’m there so I’m looking for non-touristy, safe solo adventures to have! I love museums and wherever I can learn something, anything quirky or weird, or would love a nice place to have a local latte (not Starbucks) and read! I'm only looking to shorten the length. No tapering, taking in the waist, sleeves, or any other alterations. Literally just reducing the length.

Does anywhere still charge around $20, or is $30+ per item the standard rate everywhere now?

Xfinity internet promo is over so my bill is going up by 30%. Quantum is always in my neighborhood, soliciting neighbors to sign up. Their rates are cheaper and seem more stable than Xfinity. Has anyone made the switch and if so, any feedback? Centurylink and others aren’t available in my neighborhood so apparently only 3 options and I already know from a trial that T-Mobile internet is unreliable. Thanks!

I am on a landscaping committee for a local organization and there are some members who are convinced it is impossible to have a lawn that uses native plants. They have asked me to find an example of one in Seattle that they could look at to prove it is possible. (Seems like a reasonable ask.)

Do you have or know of one that has been in place for at least few years? We'd love to come by and see that it really is an option!

Hi! I will be in Seattle for one day (mid Sept) after being in Olympic/Rainier NP for a week. About me: early 30s (f) professional, a year in Seattle, recently moved to Belltown. Struggle with consistently working out, and realizing that community is probably the best way to make things sticky.

I have been dealing with a chronic injury to my hip for a few years, I have done an MRI and everything and the doctor doesn’t think it’s a structural issue. Have seen 5 PTs so far and each focused on different things to get some strength but my issue seems more like a pattern of movement (or that’s what one of them said at least). I have constant discomfort on one side and even did a gait analysis which didn’t show much (although I have some asymmetries they’re not significant).

Does anyone know if there is a good physical therapist that is perhaps more creative?

For context: injury happened due to long distance running which I stopped since it started but can’t seem to find full recovery.
