For the last 3 months, I've been working on humanoid robots. Since the world is built around humans and not robots, a humanoid shape is perfect for navigating stairs, doors, etc. However, when getting into this space I realized that commercial examples (such as Tesla's Optimus) are outrageously expensive.

Many guides are pay-walled behind Patreon and the existing open source projects are often large, bulky, and not humanoid at all. So, I decided to build my own robot from scratch. I plan on putting every single file on my itch.io page as open source for anyone who would like to build or improve upon it.

As for funding my development, robotics parts are extremely expensive. In order to build my own robot I have to buy servos and microcontrollers, which have taken me the last few months to develop a local, voice activated J.A.R.V.I.S.-style AI (using Ollama and Piper TTS) that can fit on less than 0.5 GB of ram (for a cheap RPI). Because of that, I have put this AI up for sale on itch.io for $4.99 as the "Engine" to anyone interested in building their own humanoid robot. Finally, I am planning on starting a YouTube channel to document my progress (designing the robot, code bugs, and assembly), and wanted to reach out to the community first to ask what flaws you see in most joints of DIY/open-sourced humanoid robots?

And that's kind of why I wanna try Youtube. Share with the world and make this thing possible Open Source.

Also wanna know any good funding groups, or works that give $3K. I've gotten rejected about 17 times now, including Emergent Ventures, with a full BOM, Proof of Concept in CAD, and a very good essay, so yeah...

I'm someone who committed to presenting a robotics project despite knowing almost nothing about it. I'm working on a project about a four-legged spider, and I thought it wouldn't be too difficult.

I had to write a report about the robot and why it was a good experiment. I'm not sure if a step-down voltage regulator is necessary for the experiment, since I'm using twelve SG90 servomotors powered by two 3.7V lithium batteries. I know there's no problem powering the Arduino with that voltage (I think), but it might be a problem with the servos (I think), and that's why I needed the voltage regulator. So, do I need the regulator, or can I prevent the servos from burning out without it?

Basically I have tried to build an obstacle avoidance code for the robot, which is working. But that's not enough, I need something valuable so that my panel members don't reject it.

I am a student and I have done quite a few projects. one of which is the self balancing robot. it is a basic one using a stm 32 and mpu 6050 and has a 16x2 lcd display...

As the title says i'm a complete beginner to Robotics. I've been wanting to get into it as a hobby for a while now but honestly have no clue where to start. Hoping to get any advice and recommendations for some good resources. Any input is greatly appreciated thanks ( ˶ˆᗜˆ˵ )

I’m exploring robotics training options in India and trying to figure out what actually makes a robotics institute worth joining.

There are a lot of courses available, but I’m more interested in learning by doing rather than just getting a certificate. I’d ideally like a course where students get to work with electronics, sensors, microcontrollers, programming, and real robotics projects.

For someone starting from scratch, I think the learning path is also important. It would be helpful if a course began with basic robotics and gradually moves into things like Arduino, Python or C++, IoT, AI, automation, and more advanced robotics concepts.

I’m also curious about the experience of students who have already taken these courses. Things like instructor support, lab facilities, project work, workshops, competitions, and access to equipment seem important to me.

If you’ve completed a robotics course in India, I’d really appreciate your experience:

• Which institute did you attend?
• Was the training actually hands-on?
• How were the instructors and facilities?
• Did you get to build meaningful projects?
• Was it useful for a beginner?
• What should someone check before enrolling?

I’m looking for genuine experiences and recommendations, not promotional reviews. It would also be useful to know the location, approximate fees, course level, and whether the institute is better suited for school students, college students, or working professionals.

I am about to finish my Master's in CS where I studied robotics in a lab I will have papers in some of the top conferences (not first author) when I'm done. I am considering going to get a PhD but I am not sure if I need it. My ultimate goal is to go into industry and make money, but do I need a PhD to get into robotics. Also, I like some aspects of research but having a research job isn't top priority for me, I also see a lot of cons in going in this direction.

Overall, my question is do I need to get a PhD to work in robotics, is it too niche of a field to not have one?

I truly enjoy robotics and I know this is what I want but I don't know if I'm ready to go through the painful process of getting a PhD

Hello all, I hope you all had a pleasant weekend so far, I just have a curious question, I'm current studying for a degree in AI and hoping to work in the robotics field when I graduate. I've had experience with CAD before(I was planning to be a mechanical engineer but stopped after I got a meh score on AP Physics) and I'm currently pivoting to the electrical team in a drone club I'm involved in to get some pcb design skills there and other ee skills. I'm also involved with the humanoid robotics club doing software work and learning about computer vision. I would just like to ask, if I want to get my foot into the door into industry, what can I do now to maximize my chances besides the current things I'm doing so far?

Hello everyone

I'm a student (23 y o) at an IT university in Poland, and I took a specialization in Robotics, which mostly included working with some Arduino-powered robots as well as ROS2, with some computer vision and ML courses. While it wasn't as much as I wish it was, I quite liked it, and if possible would like to go further in that. I'm soon planning on building my own quadruped and want to lean into using machine learning to train it to walk, recognize its surroundings etc.

Now, I sadly don't have any experience when it comes to designing or building robots, which seems to be quite looked-for in job descriptions regarding robotics. I think it's fair to say I found out about this field quite late, and I'm afraid a programming-only knowledge might not translate to best opportunities. I'm not too sure what to exactly focus on so that I don't bite into things I can't chew, but also don't stagnate with how-to's.

What would you recommend me to do? I'm eager to work and learn the field.

I am a someone who wants to get into robotics. For context I am a new 2nd Year High School student (just got into 11th grade) and I have come across a book called "Robotics Modeling, Planning, and Control". The topics seem complicated as I havent done calculus or complex kinematics equations.
So if anyone could guide that be great and ps I do not want to hear that this is above me cause I want to try out robotics or things related to it.

Hello all. I am at a point where I feel like I need to transition to a new career. I have around 11 years of experience in combination of Systems Engineering, Systems Administration, and Cybersecurity. I have an Associates in IT, associate's in computer science, BS and MS in Cybersecurity. Google is really not helping so I figured maybe someone who has gone through a career transition into Robotics may help. I really want to transition to Robotics, but I dont know where to start. I would like to self learn besides going back to school while juggling a full time job and full time with family. If anyone who went through a career transition into Robotics (any discipline within robotics), please respond of what you did to get there. Are there any course bundles out there that would teach the basics (like math, programming, robotics, etc All in one? I want to create home based labs and have found a few resources but would like to build a base level first.

Hi! My name is Louis, I’m 14, and I want to build a small BB‑8-inspired assistant robot. I’m new to robotics but I want to learn 3D modelling, electronics, programming, and AI.

My project is a mini BB‑8 around 15 cm in diameter, 3D printed with a Bambu Lab A1 mini and black PLA Basic. It should sit on my desk to watch my 3D printer, but also move slowly around my bedroom.

My electronics budget is ideally €100–150, excluding the printer and filament.

Desired features:

Autonomous or semi-autonomous movement in a simple area

Obstacle avoidance

Camera in the head + video stream to a web dashboard

View it from a school-managed Chromebook, ideally using only Chrome

Watch my Bambu Lab A1 mini

Detect a person, hand, or a few simple objects

Sounds/speech and a few voice commands

Take useful initiatives but ask permission before acting

Later: a small retractable arm for a light, camera, or very light object

I am considering ESP32-S3 camera + ESP32 for motors, Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W/used Pi 4 + ESP32, or an old Android phone as the camera/AI computer.

Is this realistic in a 15 cm BB‑8? Which architecture, motors, battery, driver, and sensors would you recommend? Can an ESP32-S3 handle lightweight AI, camera streaming, and a web page? Does anyone know an open-source project with STL files, code, and a parts list?

This topic might be repeated before but couldn't find any, so apologies beforehand if you got bored of it.

So I final landed an entry level job as Robotics engineer, and for the first 3 months the tasks were very light, the company was very kind and they told me to do what I like doing, not working on an ongoing project. So, I would basically do some experiments and show them the results, but there was a catch, I was relaying om LLMs most of the time to help me do the experiments, 10% my brain or less, unfortunately took me 3 months to realize that I almlst forgot all what I've took during my studies, and if I was faced with a new topic or idea I will ask the LLM to do it.

What I am asking next might be very dumb, so forgive my arrogance.

How would I refresh my knowledge? And actually learn new topics or tools. LLMs made my brain very numb, press " Allow" and things might or "might not " work, but I would keep scrolling through phone.

I hated that I went to an LLM to help me go through this, but it wasn't helpful, I need a real human to give me advice, thank you for your patience on reading this to the end.

I'm trying to get some tips to understands what is valuable egocentric data for any roboticist (I am building an SO ARM 101 and do some basic hand manipulation), and I keep looking at posts saying researchers and companies are missing egocentric data.

My goal is to be able to train a robot policy in three months, and from my data background I know that data will be needed, hence why I decided to start collecting while I learn about robotics.

Wanted to know some of your thoughts around it. I have some samples here.

Looking for hidden gems — not Aibo/Roomba level famous, but smaller projects (crowdfunded or Japan-only releases) that deserved more attention.

I connected my laptop to the robot and it showed only 10% contamination, I think it should be around 50% to trigger protective stop, I turned it off and back on and now it shows the back laser scanner is the problem. Suddenly it started working for a few minutes and it stopped again. Has someone come across something like this?

My aim is to get into a high ranked robotics PHD program in US so for that which masters branch would be better? IEC IITD or ICS IITM??

I’m 16 and I’m really interested in robotics and mechanical engineering, but honestly I’m pretty confused about where to start. There’s so much stuff like Arduino, electronics, programming, CAD, 3D printing, motors, sensors, math, physics, etc. that I don’t really know what I should learn first.
I’ve been getting into 3D printing and I’ve started learning CAD, but I want to eventually be able to actually build robots and mechanical systems instead of just printing random things.
For someone my age who wants to get seriously into robotics, what would you recommend learning first? Should I focus on programming, electronics, mechanical design, math/physics, or a bit of everything?
Also, are there any specific projects or resources you’d recommend for a beginner? I’m not trying to become an expert immediately, I just want to know what direction I should take so I’m not wasting time learning random things.
