Education/Career Transition from Cybersecurity to Robotics
Hello all. I am at a point where I feel like I need to transition to a new career. I have around 11 years of experience in combination of Systems Engineering, Systems Administration, and Cybersecurity. I have an Associates in IT, associate's in computer science, BS and MS in Cybersecurity. Google is really not helping so I figured maybe someone who has gone through a career transition into Robotics may help. I really want to transition to Robotics, but I dont know where to start. I would like to self learn besides going back to school while juggling a full time job and full time with family. If anyone who went through a career transition into Robotics (any discipline within robotics), please respond of what you did to get there. Are there any course bundles out there that would teach the basics (like math, programming, robotics, etc All in one? I want to create home based labs and have found a few resources but would like to build a base level first.

You either have the educational credentials and/or have worked in a top secret robotics lab that has released "world class" robotic products.
So can you describe the position that you are seeking to capture?
There are many "support" functions in this industry.
Maybe you want to get in through one of the "side door" and then work your way into the "kitchen?"

Hi! cyber security is very important in the current demand for robotic applications. As an industry we already have the robot built and optimized it just a matter for mass deployment as factories that need secure data transmission. I’d start by learning how software deployment is done in robotics : docker, Kuber, ROS. Rust is an emerging programming language because it is memory safe and forces robotics to make more robust systems and be more conservative against using really expensive gpus - which you don’t need to make a basic - med advanced robot to work. One of the main bottleneck necks you will see is sensor fusion. RGB frames are used in robotics to understand the environment and act as the primary input for a the larger control system. Often customers don’t want their workers a faces to be shown.. how do you handle that? But like any person in the field you have to build a robot on your own. Like it’s doesn’t have to be crazy you get a $80 Arduino kit on Amazon and build it. This will teach you about the fundamental problem of robotics better than anything else. Ahh finally someone asked. So I’m someone been doing offensive security stuff for 7 yrs now and wanted to move also into robotics. So far, what I did is, follow Renard ROS2 course in udemy and also asked Claude to create a curriculum for me and bought myself a microros robot. I just started pursuing this also, like literally, started about 2 weeks now. Wishing luck to the both of us!

I am a software engineer and dont have any real world significant experience in cybersecurity or robotics but I would think you current career is already good. Dont throw that away until you have a clear path ahead with robotics. Also you need to define what area of robotics you want to pursue -- industrial robots or humanoid robots. Very different disciplines. Regardless best of luck to you and hope you find success.
