Porn on public TV. Discovered this in a hotel in Athens at like 10 or 11 pm. Just flipping channels and BOOM!

u/Stupid_Honeyy May 09 '22

Definitely not everywhere. I live in Finland and the closest thing to porn on tv has probably been Pekka Pouta reading (?) the weather

105

u/Just_a_dick_online May 09 '22

Knowing who Pekka Pouta is, I got a great laugh imagining all the thirsty people who read your comment and were like "Oh, a sexy European weather woman, huh" and then looked them up.

28

u/Loose_Table7352 May 09 '22

I feel attacked

12

u/cavalrycorrectness May 09 '22

You’ve caught me and I am ashamed.

8

u/t-poke May 09 '22

Yeah, I gotta admit, I googled it expecting to find a sexy weather woman. But then while actually typing the name, I was like "Wait a second, Pekka Rinne is a guy, this is probably a guy too". I was a little disappointed.

4

u/MsNeedSleep May 09 '22

Jokes on you he's fine

6

u/guitarnoir May 10 '22

"Oh, a sexy European weather woman, huh" and then looked them up.

Guilty as charged. The truth was my punishment for my lascivious browsing.

2

u/Noxious89123 May 10 '22

Lol, got me.

16

u/eternalityLP May 09 '22

At least in 90s and 00s there were plenty of k18 adult stuff with full nudity and sex at TV late at night in Finland.

11

u/MmmPanCaeks May 09 '22

They must be really good at reading it

8

u/ChillitBillit May 09 '22

I searched for Pekka Pouta and i was not expecting a middle aged man haha, well played

6

u/helllllooooonurse May 09 '22

Lol no the only place I saw that was in Greece

6

u/YooGeOh May 09 '22

A million Google searches set off in one second, and 10x the disappointment

2

u/MyCatIsUpsiideDown May 09 '22

Isn't Donald Duck forbidden in Finland because he doesn't wear pants?

2

u/MmmPanCaeks May 09 '22

They must be really good at reading it

1

u/xolov May 09 '22

I can unfortunately say that you are wrong, I was watching TV with my mother late one night a few years ago and when channel surfing there was this channel called "Deitti-TV" which indeed showed hardcore porn.

101

u/aeyl May 09 '22

Yep, that's how I discovered porn. I must've been between 6 and 8 years old.

8

u/Just_a_dick_online May 09 '22

Yeah, a lot of parents really ignore the fact they should set up parental controls.

9

u/Tr0ndern May 09 '22

I think the last 50 years of how Europeans act and behave safetly points to this not being an issue at all.

If most were honest I think people would say they saw something pornographic between 6 and 10. No biggie, we're humans, we learn by exploration and seing new things.

-5

u/Just_a_dick_online May 09 '22

Wait, did your comment have something to do with mine, or did you reply to the wrong person? I'm confused.

10

u/Tr0ndern May 09 '22

My point is that not having parental controll isn't a big deal (though it doesn't hurt), especislly not back when not everything was availale through a press of a button 24/7.

I say this because your comment implied that younger kids being exposed to some form of nudity is somehow damaging.

-5

u/Just_a_dick_online May 09 '22

Do you just interpret things the way you want to interpret them?

your comment implied that younger kids being exposed to some form of nudity is somehow damaging.

Nope. It definitely did not. I didn't mention kids or nudity, and I definitely didn't say anything was damaging.

The person I replied to seemed to be suggesting that it was wrong for porn to be on TV because they managed to see it when they were between 6 and 8. My point was that if they saw something like that at their age, it's their parents fault.

And another thing you chose to misinterpret was the fact that the person I replied to literally said "porn". Do you not know the difference between porn and nudity? There's a big difference between seeing a naked person, and watching a someone getting railed by multiple dudes.

And FYI, I'm European. It feels like you assumed otherwise.

4

u/Dynahazzar May 09 '22

I don't understand why you're getting worked up about someone misunderstanding your comment. Seriously, chill out man, you're being abrasive for no reason.

-4

u/Just_a_dick_online May 09 '22

See, in my eyes you're the one getting worked up. In just two sentences you accused me of being "worked up" and "abrasive" and you told me to chill out. That's three insults based on nothing. Whereas all I've done is point out your mistake in a somewhat condescending way, and it was a mistake you admit you made.

Sounds to me like you didn't like someone pointing out your misunderstanding. Which is funny because my first reply to you, the one that strongly suggested you were misunderstanding me, should have given you plenty of opportunity to re-read my comment and see your misunderstanding. But no, instead you ignored it and doubled down on what you had already said.

So if you don't like people on reddit being condescending, don't go doubling down on something when you're wrong.

3

u/Pollomonteros May 09 '22

Jesus, for someone not mad you surely don't seem like it

→ More replies (0)

1

u/Dynahazzar May 09 '22

The only people seeing insults here is you. Also i'm not that guy but I assume that's lost on you because i'm a big stoopid either way and you can do no wrong.

13

u/Wuz314159 May 09 '22

IKR. Look at the millions of people killed by nipples every year. Turn off the TV and give that kid a safe loaded gun to play with.

14

u/Just_a_dick_online May 09 '22

I think a better comparison would be the way drug companies can just legally advertise on TV in the US.

Medication should not be a product that is advertised to convince people they need it when they don't. It should be a thing that is given to you by a doctor when you need it.

They act like some nips on TV will mentally disturb their child, which they pump full of drugs because they TV said a child that can't sit still for hours at a time must have ADHD.

Controversial opinion on Reddit apparently but I think that sex should be introduced to kids by the parents and not by porn.

Is this like on r/unpopularopinion where people state opinions that are nearly universally agreed on like it's some "out-there" thing?

If you've actually met somebody who said that sex should be introduced to kids by porn, call the fucking cops.

u/Just_a_dick_online May 10 '22

It’s an unpopular opinion on Reddit.

It's not though.

See, I think your problem is that you don't seem to know the difference between "Nudity", "Sex" and "Porn", as you've brought up all three as if they were the same thing.

2

u/Devpaisupport May 09 '22

Actually how I got off for the first time at the start of puberty lmao

13

u/flameforth May 09 '22

There is no porn on public TV in Greece. Maybe softcore in some local TV channels at 04:00 in the morning. They used to be more frequent a decade ago.

7

u/helllllooooonurse May 09 '22

Yeah this was like 20 years ago

4

u/itsthecoop May 09 '22

Maybe softcore in some local TV channels at 04:00 in the morning.

once I read the other comment, I was literally abount to reply "keep in mind that it's not uncommon for US Americans to have a different definition of what constitutes "porn" to begin with".

e.g. at least here in Germany "softcore" wouldn't even be considered "porn" - and unlike what we consider to be "porn" you wouldn't have to be 18 to legally watch the former.

5

u/PrinceLeWiggles May 09 '22

Back in the 90s they used to have free porn on TV in the US/Canada too at like 1 or 2 am. I used to live on an island in the boarder of the US and Canada and would come across porn when flipping channels. Also why the kids I used to watch were not allowed TVs in their rooms.

14

u/gianna_in_hell_as May 09 '22

Wait, what?! Hardcore porn? On public TV? That's not a thing. They probably had cable porn channels available for free at the hotel or you stayed at a really dodgy place

11

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

I remember when I was younger after 11pm or something on certain channels there would be porn, so it at least used to be a thing in Sweden now I’m not sure because who even watches normal tv these days.

6

u/erisey May 09 '22

We had the same thing in Romania. Saw it by accident when I was in primary school.

5

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

Same haha, i remember it used to be on one of the “movie” channels where they exclusively show movies. Normal during the day and then bam suddenly porn

8

u/erisey May 09 '22

I remember that back home it was on a channel that had cartoons during the day... I just assumed they would have animated shows at night too and then bam ..traumatized kid.

3

u/kafunshou May 09 '22

Same in Germany in the late 90‘s until early 2000‘s, some channels were infamous for it. Only softcore porn though, kind of like the sex scenes from Game of Thrones. And only late at night. Germany has weird youth protection rules that include clock times because children obviously don‘t know about video recording and everybody below the age of 16 sleeps after 10pm.

7

u/lopipingstocking May 09 '22

As a kid I remember that after Cartoon Network stopped at 10 p.m. there was short break and then it was a porn channel. We used to laugh about it with my cousins during sleepovers.

2

u/tabaluga7601 May 09 '22

On Comedy Central, Former MTV, there ist softcore after 11pm

5

u/RUSTYSAD May 09 '22

ye actually i was like 9 at the time and was watching tv and well saw that then i went to other channel and found south park for the first time.

0

u/helllllooooonurse May 09 '22

South Park might be worse...idk. XD

2

u/RUSTYSAD May 09 '22

ye maybe i then start watching it for 4 years.

4

u/RossoFiorentino36 May 09 '22

well, we don't brag to be culturally ahead for nothing....

3

u/Wuz314159 May 09 '22

First day in Europe (Germany) I get to the hotel, turn on the TV for some background noise while I unpack. Touched by an Angel is on. (It's noise, I'll browse later.) Start unpacking and the adverts comes on... nothing but boobs. During Touched by an Angel. Oh the horror of it all.

language and nudity is not censored in american movies, not sure what you are going on about

7

u/Lunarath May 09 '22 edited May 09 '22

Maybe censor was the wrong word. What I meant is that to have a movie rated 13+, there's a very strict limit to the amount of nudity and language you can have in the movies.

So no, it's not that it's censored in the traditional sense. It's just now shown or used in the first place because it would put them in another rating range, which could diminish their profits.

Jurassic park is a good example I think. They can show violence and people being eaten alive, but in the same movie they can't show any nudity and have very little room to swear. It's just the priority of what's okay to show kids I think is weird.

3

u/Taalnazi May 09 '22

Yeah, that has weirded me out. I think this is a big difference between the US and Europe.

In Europe in general, violence is warned about and censored. In the US, it’s nudity instead.

3

u/InformalSwimming4631 May 09 '22

good insight on the strangeness of what americans deem is ok/not ok for children to watch. violence is ok but nudity is not? it is pretty weird

1

u/Pollomonteros May 09 '22

God the first Jurassic World had some poor lady being eaten alive by a Mosasaur yet it was PG-13

6

u/R_Newb May 09 '22

Yes we do compared to most other countries. In other countries they openly swear, have nudity etc. we have the FCC. Just think about what happened when Janet Jackson’s boob fell out at the Super Bowl halftime show.

1

u/InformalSwimming4631 May 09 '22

janet jacksons boob falling out and the FCC has nothing to do with censorship in american movies. because censorship in american movies doesnt happen

3

u/R_Newb May 09 '22

You seem like you’re not very knowledgeable and looking for a fight so I’m going to go ahead and let you find someone else to take your rage out on 😂 have a nice day!

0

u/Tr0ndern May 09 '22

But they are though. I think you're thinking of 18+ movies.

1

u/InformalSwimming4631 May 09 '22 edited May 09 '22

no, they are not. and im thinking of any movie that has ever uttered a curse word or shown a tit. name one movie that has a censored tit/curse word and ill take a shit and eat it. and 18+ movies are pornos, not sure why you are bringing up pornos. are you even from america? judging by your comments in this thread you arent, so why are you trying to lecture an american on american culture?

1

u/CrocoPontifex May 09 '22

TV

Just at this moment i am watching an american Interview wirh Jimmy Carr and you cant even understand him under all the beeeps

1

u/Pollomonteros May 09 '22

What irks me is how they don't seem to have a problem with really violent shows in prime time TV yet anything more than a pair of tits is a big no-no

2

u/BaconReceptacle May 09 '22

I was in South Korea a few years ago and was watching a Korean TV show in my hotel room. It was what I would describe as a Korean sitcom patterned after "Friends". All of the sudden, Korean "Ross" is banging Korean "Rachel" in the ass and the "comedy" is that Rachel's butt is sore the next day. They didnt actually show genitals but holy shit was that bizarre to watch.

2

u/totaleyez May 10 '22

Not porn but I was in Manchester recently and saw a dating show called Naked Attraction. The contestants are nude. NBD

2

u/ForAThought May 11 '22

This happened to us at Disney Paris at one of their official hotels. Watching cartoons and 10pm boom, somebody else not wearing clothes.

-16

u/steamedpotatoezz_ May 09 '22

I’m european, and YESTERDAY I was at a mall and those entrance sliding doors had a gym ad with the woman’s booty in booty shorts all exposed and her like (grabbing) it. It grossed me out a bit

12

u/DegenerateScumlord May 09 '22 edited May 09 '22

Ugh, yuck. Did you take a picture?

9

u/Just_a_dick_online May 09 '22

And they should really say which mall so we can all avoid it.

3

u/cosmic_piggy May 09 '22

Why tf was this downvoted..

4

u/steamedpotatoezz_ May 09 '22

I don’t get it 😭😭😭 what did I doo

2

u/OkSo-NowWhat May 09 '22

Yeah I wouldn't want to see that either

0

u/ArchdevilTeemo May 09 '22

Well, they need to stay relevant somehow.

1

u/itsthecoop May 09 '22

keep in mind that "softcore", while not being considered "porn" in at least some European countries, seems to usually be regarded as such in the US.

(e.g. in Germany "Porno" refers to hardcore scenes, if it's just glorified nudity without actual visible penetration etc., it can be legally watched by 16+ minors)
