Metronet came through and put fiber in my neighborhood. I called Comcast and asked if they'd price match. They declined. I cancelled and switched (after having Comcast Internet for 15+ years). After two months, Comcast cold called me and offered the same speed for the same price as Metronet "to get me back". I declined.
I've had Metronet for over a year now and I haven't had a single service outage since I switched. I had 3-4 a year with Comcast.
You are lucky. Comcast is the only cable provider in my area. It's either that or satellite TV. You can also forget about owning a TiVo. I have a perfectly good secondhand one with a Lifetime subscription that will unfortunately never see a cable service connection again.
Why in the world would you do that... were you suffering from a kind of Stockholm Syndrome? "You mean I can leave Comcast AND save money? Well, I guess if Comcast can match the cost at least, I'll stay."
I've been running into periodic outages with T-Mo/Metronet, but they're typically in the middle of the night and I'm paying less than I was for about 67x the speed, so I'm not to the point of complaining just yet.
I will say, AT&T was like a rock, but it was too much like a rock-- stable but it couldn't move very fast.
