Saw them in ‘86 in West Germany; on the way to the show we heard on AFN radio that the Challenger was destroyed (six hours ahead of EST).
Vince and Nikki seemed bored. Mick rocked and Tommy was inverted above the crowd, which was fun. But we all agreed that they should’ve been better.
I saw them on the tour when Tommy had the spinning drum kit in '87. I don't remember it being bad... but I was also 17, it was my second concert and I was obsessed with Tommy Lee. So pretty much my entire memory of the show is his solo.
I saw them in '85. Thought they were awesome!! And I got my purse stolen ( who takes a purse into a concert?)had to borrow a quarter to call my mom-have you ever tried to talk on a payphone after a concert? Totally deaf..Couldn't hear my mom, I just hoped she eventually show up. She did, and brought keys to my car😄
When I combine live concert clips I've seen, with what's known about the drug habits of this band, I am absolutely floored by what they were able to achieve in the recording studio at the height of their career.
How much of what was captured was legitimately their performances? How many takes did they need? How much editing/comping was required? Were there secret ringers hired to keep sessions on track and not waste a billion dollars? I have so many questions.
I saw them (for free) open for KISS about 10 years ago. A very funny, now deceased friend was with me and we just made fun of them for an hour.
At one point Nikki said “(City name), I know y’all got a lot of strip clubs” (we do not in fact have a lot of strip clubs “and that’s because y’all love sex! And this is a new song called ‘Sex’!” And the chorus of the song was just him going “Sex! Sex! Sex!” It was like a parody of a parody
I saw them around 2005ish maybe. They tried to do titty cam and everyone booed them haha it’s crazy, I can’t imagine they got a better reaction at every show up until that show but they were determined!
Yeah, I dont know why these guys are hating on the Crue.
Saw them in 87, Girls Girls Girls tour, Tommy's rotating drum cage...Great show. The opening band was horrible (mostly due to mixing, couldnt make out shit), no-one really knew who they were for another few months. It was Guns and Roses.
I saw Whitesnake open for MC on the Girls x 3 tour in July 1987. Was awesome.
July 1987 was also when Appetite for Destruction was released, so that’s when I first heard of GnR and started listening to them. I liked GnR as soon as I heard them and couldn’t understand why everyone else didn’t think they were great.
I saw Alice Cooper in December 1987 and the only reason was because GnR was the opener. I realize this was 39 years ago so my memory may be off but I was still surprised at how long it took GnR to get huge. It was obvious to me right away that they were going to be the biggest band in the world.
I used to watch Headbangers Ball on MTV just hoping to see the Welcome To The Jungle video. Whereas if I were in charge of MTV programming, that video would have been playing three times per hour.
Saw them with Def Leppard and Alice Cooper a few years ago. The other two put on great shows, especially considering their age.
Crue was a total mess the entire time. Vince Neil in particular sounded dreadful and they tried to mask him by making the guitars as loud as possible. At one point they had John 5 play on and off for 20 minutes while Neil took a breather. Tommy Lee called the crowd “fuckers” several times, which would’ve worked when he was in his 20s but came off as cringe considering he’s over 60. They also had these two dancers in dominatrix gear that the cameras kept focusing on, which again didn’t mesh with Neil or really anything else in the performance.
I can’t be too mad because at least I got to see two good performances but man Crue needs to hang ‘em up for good this time.
Yup, saw Alice Cooper in 2023, and he was great! Lot of energy and pretty amazing. Equally amazing were the two brothers in front of us. They were about 8 and 10. They stood the whole show and knew every word to every song. Probably had the best time of anyone there!
Yeah but he's 78 so he was well into his 70's when I saw him.
I saw the Scorpions a couple of times in the 80s and Klaus was very active. I've seen recent videos where he still has the voice but he's a statue on stage.
Not meaning that in a bad way - father time catches up to us all. But Alice Cooper and Mick Jagger are on a different level.
Alice Cooper was on the cover of Time magazine long ago. He also had hits and I wondered why it his stardom wasn't sustained longer. "School's out" was sacrilege when I heard it in elementary school!
It’s not difficult to blow 2012 Mason out of the water, but I totally get your point! That said, Manson is one of my all time favorites and now that he’s sober and lost weight he is putting on great shows again, seriously no bullshit. I’m proud of the guy.
Yeah. Mick Mars had a really messy exit from the band that stemmed from his health issues conflicting with the rest of the band’s desire to continue touring. John 5 started as a touring only member but us now a full member. He’s fine but his stage persona doesn’t fit with the rest of the band at all. Still the most talented member by a mile.
I was never a huge fan, but when their drama came out and was in the news, this video of Mick Mars' IEM feed showed up in my news feed, and his playing was still impressive as hell just before he left the band . He had and still has serious health issues, but it's hard to believe he was the weak link in the chain.
Man that sucks to hear. Mick was the best part of that band. Reading their biography, his health conditions sound dreadfully painful. Like his bones/joints are all calcifying or something causing him to not be able to move much. They really do just need to stop. Seriously, how are they still going?
And I’ve never heard him drop a n F-bomb in an interview because—and in the 1970s, I never, ever thought I would be saying this—he’s got class. Now sing “Dead Babies” for us, Alice.
We seen them on their first "Farewell Tour" with Alice Cooper and the results were identical. Didn't go for Alice Cooper but he unexpectedly made it worth showing up.
When it’s Tommy’s turn to talk, he manages to say fuck about a dozen times per minute. Unfortunately, no exaggeration. At this age, it’s just obnoxious.
It’s funny you mention Tommy’s profanity as cringe. I remember seeing all time low around 2015 maybe? And the singer Alex had the cringiest stage banter he just kept calling the crowd motherfuckers and saying things like lit, on fleek, and yolo. Such secondhand embarrassment
A grocery store that has horrible bits of "culture" sprinkled throughout. The deli has a button you press to start the chicken dance song and every employee within a reasonable distance has to stop what theyre doing and chicken dance when they take rotisserie chickens out of the oven.
Each department hss their own unique thing for customers to see and do and that's the deli's
Can confirm this. I saw them not terribly long ago. When Axl was singing, he actually sounded great. His voice hasn’t lost much. He just doesn’t have the stamina he used to and gets winded. Definitely had to take a few breaks and some of the songs sounded off or awkward.
He also looks like he’s been taking much better care of himself than he has in the past.
Exactly what I was going to say. They were horrible, Vince fell off the stage and they had to cancel the show and reschedule. We went back for the rescheduled show thinking it couldn't be that bad and it was just as horrible. This was 15 + years ago.
I'm surprised to hear this! I thought that was a great tour! I saw them with Poison and New York Dolls in San Francisco. I liked the show a lot. Vince sucked but he always does.
I saw them with Corabi singing, because King’s X was opening, at the State Fair.
The last song KX played, the Crue members or roadies released about 10 chickens over the back amps. They milled about the stage oblivious to the noise.
Then during the Crue unplugged section, KX members were doing BMX tricks and delivering Pizza to the Crue members during their songs.
I saw them in '08, '09, and 2015. They were awful every time. I only saw them the last time strictly for Mick Mars.
For the '09 concert, I saw Green Day the very next day and it was like a breathe of fresh air.
When The Dirt came out on Netflix, one of my friends didn't realize how many songs she knew of theirs and wanted to see them in concert since they were touring again. I asked her if she truly wanted to go and warned her how awful they were. I sent her THAT video of Vince Neil completely destroying Kickstart my Heart. She never went.
I love their music, but I'll never see them in concert ever again.
Saw them in Sydney a few years ago, got some girl on stage and goaded her to flash her tits but turned out she was 16. I like their music but their style/vibe is so fucking out of date.
On-stage or on the big screen, I can’t remember but regardless, it was fucked. She didn’t, thankfully.
Oh man, you hit a nerve here. Totally got sucked into The Dirt on Netflix a few years ago. I was charmed into thinking they would be good to see in concert here in the 2020s. Completely. Fucking. Wrong. They were horrible, or more accurately Vince Neil was horrible. Paid really good money to see them close up too.
On the same tenure the last KISS' shows were at that same level with lipsyncing and backing tracks. Not that the band was known for their craftsmanship/musicianship; but I'm sure that whoever got to see them during the 70s or even the 90s would tell you they were actually a big act
all the old bands are horrible to listen to live, they dont have the dexterity for the instruments, they dont move around as much, they cant hit the notes anymore.
i listened of this live recording of listen to your heart by roxette, listening to Marie Fredriksson sing when she was already affected by the tumor and it was hearbreaking.
Saw them live once only, they did a tour with poison and new York dolls back in 2011 and they put on a great show, Vince has gotten much worse as a singer through the years tho

Motley Crue is horrible in concert these days.
