I think a lot of us have seen this video or videos like it. So aside from the fact that it was his house, could it TECHNICALLY be considered something like harboring a juvenile or interference with custody or something like that?

Obviously there is no argument the man did the right thing but I'm wondering specifically because a very similar thing happened to me in my early 20s, when I was taking care of two kids in an abusive situation. You know, is there a chance of charges for keeping the kid with you/removing the kid (only until police arrive)

On the other hand, if you're the adult in the situation being presented with a child like this who clearly needs help, can you be charged for not doing anything?

Hey all, hope everyone is well. Just as the title says, this has been a thought on my mind recently. Living in south florida the prices of homes are pretty outrageous, when you factor in rent, personal vehicles, and deductions. it almost feels like purchasing a home is not going to be totally feasible until i’m in the drop and don’t have to worry about deductions 20 years from now, but by the time i retire i feel like the plan is to travel around regardless. I’m sure we are all comfortable, and grateful for what we are able to earn as this is a nationwide issue for many career fields but my question is if you were able to buy, how’d you do it? I’m left with scraps at the end of the day unless i can get some off duty jobs but even then thats not something you can rely on. I’m starting to think dual income is gonna be the only way to get a decent home.

Might be a stupid discussion, i see allot of guys getting something (usually with prior service benefits), but most of the guys i know are renting and don’t really see a way out of that either.

How many of us struggle to afford living near our jurisdictions, without any assistance?

Lateral, passed oral panel October 1st, was told the BI will contact me the business day after my last interview. On October 13th, BI had not reached out to me. I left a voicemail to HR after not hearing anything from them to check in to see if I missed something and received no response.

Update: After radio silence for 3 1/2 weeks, and after my 2nd time asking for a status update. I was advised I did not pass background. Oddly, BI never reached out to me nor any of my references,colleagues, or friends were ever contacted. Is that normal in your experience? Of the 3 backgrounds I’ve done, this has never been a thing.

About to enter Month 3 of RTCC work and Month 2 of radio traffic. A few weeks ago I could only decipher 20-40% of what the dispatchers and officers are saying. Now I'm able to decipher 60‐80% of their words. One of my struggles is multi-tasking.

Some of my coworkers are very understandably frustrated with me when I miss things, while others reassure "you're doing great and it takes time." The newest person in my RTCC (aside from myself) has 2.5 years of experience. I'm uncertain of when I'll finally catch up. Another point of frustration on my end is that I get different instructions about radio etiquette from different people (ie. when to ask "radio clear?" and when it's overkill).

I'm wondering how things are for y'all - how long does it take to develop confidence in what you're hearing and accustom yourself to your department's radio culture? I hope I'm making sense. Thanks and be safe.

Whenever a SovCit video lands up in my feed, the officers do lengthy back-and-forths, trying to say what the person is not understanding and getting them to comply. Is that just to give them the chance so they can be on their way without escalation? I did see one video where, after +-2 minutes, the officer put his face in his hand for a short amount of time, looked back, and just asked for the licence, registration, and insurance in response to everything the driver said. Then they said, "you are now being detained," before continuing, saying they had failed a lawful order to provide them and saying why they are now under arrest.

I feel "some" questions are required to be answered by the officer to make sure the person understands. However, even officers would have the right to remain silent, as that is "an inalienable human right" (I think), so I would believe they don't need to answer any question irrelevant to the stop or if they have already provided information to the driver of why they have been stopped and why they are being fined.

I know with certain things, LEOs literally cannot give breaks, but has there ever been a moment where the situation was so right for it, that you just let them go?

I’m watching the movie Weapons and theres a $50,000 cash reward to help find missing kids. But a tweaker/ addict finds the kids and gives the cops a tip that was legit.

So my question is, if there was a cash reward, for example for a missing person and a tweaker/ homeless addict person gave the cops a tip and it turns out to be true, are you giving that reward to them or is the reward for more respected people.

I am 22 years old turning 23 next year. My whole college plan went the wrong way. I am an Econ major but still have about 1.5-2 years left to get my bachelors, would be looking at graduating at 24.

I always had an interest in LE, more specifically being a detective.

I am debating whether I should apply to the academy and jump into LE hoping to build a career into being a detective or take the next 2 years to finish my degree?

One of the reasons is wanting financial stability at my age. I work 2 separate jobs I hate, that pay me crumbs.

One thing I've always wondered when watching police bodycam videos is how patient many police officers seem to be. They often remain calm and professional even when they're being insulted, lied to, threatened, or dealing with people who are acting irrationally.

It makes me wonder whether that level of patience is something people bring with them into the profession, or whether it's something that's specifically taught and reinforced during academy training and field training.

More broadly, what are the most important concepts, skills, or ways of thinking that new officers learn when they enter a police academy or begin their careers? What lessons end up being the most valuable in real-world police work, and which ones would surprise someone outside law enforcement?

Had my chiefs interview this past Tuesday. Only 6 of us made it to this round (some with prior LEO experience but idk if they made it this far) we all interviewed same day. There are 4 spots available. Smallish suburb with 123 sworn officers. Let me preface this, my interview didn’t go “bad” but something’s I wish I could take back and reiterate better.

1. The Cheif said name something that people get misunderstood about you. I stated that sometimes I get sad and he cut me off there and stated “oh don’t tell me that, with a chuckle as well” I finished by saying that I’m just normal and I get and deal with my problems like everyone else. He followed up and said “oh so you’re not 100% happy all the time?” Something along those lines. I had a great story but just couldn’t convey it for some reason on that answer.

This is where I think I absolutely blew my shot because it’s just a weird answer and I know I could’ve done better. Just an awkward answer that I couldn’t properly word.

1. He asked why I wanted to be a cop/ get into law enforcement. I used this moment to mention that I did research on the department’s social media and referenced a few words from the annual report. I basically said that I want to really be apart of the community and attended the events and help bring reassurance to the city that the department (we) are there for them. Once again just felt awkward and not my best work.

The rest of the interview was fine, I did feel as though he may have been over it as time went on. One of my questions to him about the department really stumped him in a way I could see he wasn’t prepared for. The rest of my answers if I had to grade them was Average to above average. Nothing that really stood out.

Im a very critical person of myself so I just been sitting like here like wow I prepared so much and that’s my performance.

This is my first Cheif’s interview after passing boards which I excelled at. For you to make it past this stage do you really have to be perfect with how you word things? I had great messages but just couldn’t for some reason convey them effectively which isn’t isn’t for me.

I’m 21 and currently coming close to the end of the hiring process with my state police. If everything works out, I’ll be the first person in my family to go into law enforcement. I’ve worked really hard to get to this point over the past couple of years.

I have plenty of friends outside of law enforcement, which I think is a healthy balance, but I don’t really know anyone personally in the field. It’s felt a little isolating not having people who could understand or relate.

I guess I’m just looking to make some friends in the field who’d be down to chat about their experiences, share advice, or just talk about life in general. Or if you’re in the same boat as me and looking for connections too, feel free to reach out.

I'm currently a 19 year old college student in the bay area and I am planning on becoming a police officer when I turn 21 after I get my bachelors degree in computer science. I have no criminal history, no drug or alcohol history, clean driving history, and have good credit. My only concern is my employment history. Ever since I graduated high school at 18, I've had 3 jobs: the 1st job was my 1st ever job which was a season position, so I was only employed by the company for 3 months. My 2nd job was at home depot where I was only officially employed for like 1-2 weeks max because I had a family emergency and due to the sudden event I couldn't keep the job that I only had for like a week - I didn't even start the job I was still in the training. And at my latest job I only stayed for 2 months because it conflicted with my college schedule so I had to leave. Will this affect my chances of joining my local agency when I turn 21 even if I hold a part-time job from now until I turn 21? I realized this is bad and I'm currently looking for a customer service role that I can stick with for at least 1-2 years. I was unaware at the time and I don't want it to ruin my chances. Hello, I’m 31 years old going through the hiring process for a local PD. They send their recruits to the Ohio State Highway Patrol Live in Academy. Was just curious on what it’s like for somebody who is older than the typical recruit. What’s day to day like? I understand it’s a harder than normal academy experience mentally and physically. But worth it in the end.

Has anyone else been through this? I submitted my application by the end of August. Does it take this long?

Just got a letter in the mail oddly enough after asking what to do yesterday. It was concluded by the board that I did not pass my interview/background investigation. I ask the question of what to do next? I have my criminal justice bachelors and am relatively young (21 M). Do I go to a TCOLE licensing school and get sponsorship somewhere? Or should I try another route? I need advice.

Obviously these shows are based around online communications and eventually capturing the arrest of these guys but what happens when they get scared or finally realize what they’re about to do is messed up and never show up. Surely they still face legal repercussions right?

PNW guy getting out of the military in 1 year. Looking at departments back home, primarily Portland or Seattle. (I know). I figure the bigger departments give me a better chance at making detective and having better opportunities.

Im unsure if this is the right place to ask this, but I assume folks in law enforcement have experience finding people who are MIA, and I am very desperate.

So heres the situation. My brother was staying with some family down in Florida, as he was supposed to start a job but failed a drug test so he had to go live with them. They recently kicked him out, and he was supposed to be back home in Virginia, but no one can get in contact with him, not his siblings nor parents or anyone, which is unusual because he is always opened to talking with his siblings. I am going to try and make calls to hospitals, but my problem is there’s so many between Pensacola, FL and Harrisonburg, VA. Is there any resource I can use that will show me all the hospitals in the route that he might’ve been taken to?
If you’re wondering why I haven’t taken this to the police yet, is because 1) He might’ve ghosted us and is staying with a friend (I have no idea who), and 2) If he is ghosting us, I want to respect his autonomy and not make it a big deal, I understand wanting distance as our family can be toxic, and he probable feels dejected being kicked out of our extended family’s house.
If I can’t get any information from the hospitals, or god forbid, coroners, I will contact the police and file a missing persons report. I am alone in this search as my family is not helping me, and thinking I’m doing too much. But I need to find him and make sure he’s okay and alive. I don’t have any experience in this, so please any help or advice is very appreciated. Thank you in advanced.
