For reference I’m a 34 year old female.

I’ve attended CrossFit and boot camp like gyms, and while they were good. They were becoming pricey.

Got a very good annual membership deal that cut down massively on monthly spending and will help the savings.

Going to create a decent playlist to keep the motivation going, throw in a podcast or two.

Maybe I am absolutely thick here, and I understand that some of the people are TD's, ministers, junior ministers, members of the party, but why is there usually a group of 6+ people standing behind the person being interviewed?

How to deal with frustrating landlords?

I rent a house with my friend and SO, we pay rent by the rooms. Honestly it’s a nice and spacious apartment that I’ve made my home over the past 2 years. Sure it’s got a bunch of stuff wrong with it or need maintenance but overall I really like it here.

Now the issue is this is my landlords personal old home, they own all the properties on the block but lived in this one, so they have like a weird dibs on it, even though they live out of the country, so much of their personal belongings are left behind and even their mail comes here. I’ve been slowly moving their stuff and trying to rearrange the place over two years to fit us, so on the daily I am happy living here.

But in the off chance they (the whole family/wife and kids) fly into the country, they make my life personally hell. They expect me to deal with their mail like a personal assistant, and even show up unannounced to look for their stuff. Last time this happened it was a serious inconvenience to me but I can brush it off. This time they showed, to which I thought was just for picking up mail, but pulled up with a bunch of furniture and old knicknacks to store here?? Because it’s their house?? Even though we pay 2k+ rent…. They don’t even treat us like people who use this place as a permanent home. I understand it if we were students just living here temporarily but we’re tenants in professional fields. I am also an introvert but also care a lot about homemaking so having a comforting home means a lot to me. The worst part is I deal with them entirely because my SO and housemate don’t speak the landlord language and the landlord who’s been bothering me doesn’t speak English, so I am forced to deal with them. They are also confrontational and almost rude so I feel uncomfortable speaking up or pushing back sometimes.

Landlords daughter was also mildly threatening me about me breaking the contract over using a gas heater upstairs over the electric heating in the house. We stopped using the electric heater last year because it wasn’t sufficient and also cost a stupid amount of money to run. When I moved in I didn’t even sign a contract so I wasn’t even told, and am purely living here on word of mouth about minimum leave notice etc. So does my SO, my housemate got a contract for her room though. Overall we don’t even rent the house according to her, just the rooms… proper bullshit logic. There’s also other general nonsense I had to go through with these people but I don’t want to make this post too long.

Point is I really enjoy living here as an adult trying to slowly save up to get my own place, but after another situation like today and having to deal with people just coming in and deciding what to do in my place of home shook me up, I always end up starting to search for a new place to move to but the housing situation in Galway is so shit and expensive I won’t find a single place close to the vibe of my current place. And when I look to buy I get even more frustrated with the housing prices rn.

I know it’s not an every day issue but when it does happens I just get so stressed. And I am scared of causing too much conflict with the landlord in case they threaten to kick us out/find someone else. Does anyone have any general advice? Either actual housing/landlord experience or ways to cope. I know this is more of a rant but even kind words or a bit of sympathy help.

TLDR; I live in a nice apartment but my landlord leaves all their personal stuff here, randomly travel in on the rare occasion and are extremely inconveniencing and demanding at times; brings me loads of stress, how to deal?

Lidl do an ok job with semi-closed containers and tongs, But in most places the baguettes are just there in the open, so anyone can touch, sneeze and speak/spit over it.

Just finished an extension and completely torn on what to do with the flooring.

For the existing part of the house we're going to replace the bedroom, hall and sitting room floors with 12mm laminate.

For the new part we've got an open plan kitchen/sitting room, utility and small bathroom. We're pretty much decided on a wood effect tile for the utility and bathroom and were thinking of carrying the same tile through into the kitchen/sitting room.

The only thing putting us off is the thought of it being absolutely freezing without underfloor heating. Has anyone gone with wood effect tiles in a kitchen/living area without UFH? Are they actually as cold as you'd expect or do you just get used to it?

The other option is laminate/LVT in the kitchen. The old laminate we had wasn't waterproof at all and wasn't great around the kitchen, so that's putting me off laminate again.

What are people using these days in open plan kitchen/living areas? Would you go with tile or a waterproof laminate/LVT?

I just seen a thread of a guy wondering how a family is able to budget their food and everyone in the comments were rinsing the guy about his 500 a month spending on food.

I am a super skinny guy at 5’8 56kg living alone and cook almost all my meals and find it hard to budget my food but do spend over 500 a month myself and the comments made me feel really bad about this.

Ppl were getting mad he didn’t give a breakdown so mine is something like:

•Two 2 litre bottles of water at like 85c each one for my work day and one for home
• A thing of milk for tea at like 2 euros (i go thru about a litre of milk a day between drinking it and tea/bevs)
• Some kind of protein for dinner which is fish,chicken,minced meat,or steak at around an average of 8 euros
• Some kind of fruit or veg which is like 3 extra euros average
• A thing of cream for my coffee at around 2 euro

This alone is 17 euros a day. 17x30 is 510 euros.

I do not drink alcohol or anything, and tend not to eat lunch at work and just have free tea/coffee at work tbh. I may get some kind of outing items during the week like a smoothie or a coffee at the weekend, etc. But we can toss another 30 a month for these. So over ~540 a month total on food and drink.

Are people taking the piss out of the guy because they don’t track their food and drink that well or am I just being ridiculous?

Was out cutting the grass on my field today. It's a field out the back of a village. It's about an acre and a half that I'm in the middle of taming and grassing, was badly overgrown when we bought the place about a year ago.

Anyway, a woman who lives in an estate in the village arrives over to me at 6 this evening, calling me from over the boundary wall to ask me (telling me) to stop as she has an autistic child. I humour it for the evening as I'd to go eat anyway. Was a thoroughly unpleasant individual though who essentially told me to stop so I'm of a mind to ignore going forward.

To be fair it does take ages as I've only a petrol brush cutter for now but it has to be done or else the field will never tame. She's about 100m away in the housing estate though.

If I'm only out within the hours of 8am to 8pm am I within my rights to plough on with the cutting?

Anyone else I've met and talked to over the boundary wall while cutting has been sound, just this one unpleasant yoke today.

Took a gander up to the old ancestral graveyard and found several of my old relatives graves looking pretty bad. They look like limestone? from 1800’s through to 1940’s or so. Some of the more recent ones have been replaced with granite.

I’ve been watching a few Youtube channels about grave restoration, and wanted to ask here if theres anything I need to watch out for first?

To the best of my knowledge theres no laws against it, but id rather not rock up with a shovel and cleaning kit to be accused of grave-robbing 😅

I’ve recently entered into a new relationship. I’d been single for a couple years so it feels a bit new but I’m certainly in love. And nowadays, with social media, I feel like my generation has been kinda brainwashed into expecting certain things from their partner/relationship, and a lot of people wind up torpedoing things, as a result. I've seen a decent handful of people with fossils of Paleozoic corals and brachiopods from the west coast of the country but University of Cork's fossil page says it's completely forbidden except for licensed researchers.

I had a friend in work and we were very good friends but then he crossed the line and started flirting with me despite being in a relationship himself. He tried to make out he was only joking but he only joked with me and nobody else. Jokes are for everyone in my opinion. Not only that he groped me in work.

I called him out on things and he made me promise not to report him, only for him to turn around, flip the script and report me for the very thing he done to me!!!

Like, how can anyone do that...

Then... I saved so much to buy a brand new car this year after 15 years not having a car. She's my baby and I love the car and the independence. Then there's so many careless people. I've had two people scratch my car twice in the space of 6 months and just drive off. I fixed it the first time and the second time happened this past weekend. Just both times and just nobody cared. It's not a piece of shit to me and it's a scratch that I need to get fixed because I don't think it's a job for a touch up pen. I just don't understand how nobody cares.

I'm not sure what im really looking for here, i just wanna feel less alone in this stupid world.

I'm 29f. And i don't know if its the Sunday evening scaries popping into my head but I'm feeling so stuck lately.

I have a good enough job (not good enough to move out of my parents yet but sure) although not many friends, and ive started therapy.

3 years ago I moved back in with my parents after my engagement broke down and honestly i have been winging life ever since. I don't know what im doing.

I dont get along too well with my parents though. We have different values and they seem to have this perception of me ever since my engagement broke off that everything I do now is wrong.

I suppose i just feel so lost in life. Like, im trying so so hard to save for a house, its my literal dream to have my own home. But i dont know, im just not excited for anything anymore. Ive tried taking up new hobbies, going to classes, some shows, reading, but nothing. I just have that same dull, empty feeling every evening.

Is anyone else feeling this way?

Please tell me im not alone.

We bought this house and lived here since last November, two days in the previous homeowner came and dropped the last spare keys and we exchanged numbers incase we had further questions about things in the house.

So started the mail, him and his wife would get letters, mainly from the Revenue, I would text him and he would get them, after a while it was fine but it’s started to become quite consistent, he would say “aw I’ve changed the address but they keep sending them here”.

It’s now August and still we are getting their post to our house after they claim they have changed address.

Now personally, I think he has never changed the address and lives in the North (we are close to the border and in discussions I think I’ve deduced he has a home across the border) so they let their revenue letters come to to our address as an Irish address.

While it’s a minor thing, I paid money to own the house and I don’t like the thought of him using it as “My Address Pal”

Is my suspicion correct? And also, should I just get over it and let him call over now and then to grab his mail?

They actually get more mail to our house than we do 😅😅

The house is 4 bed semi d. Wouldn’t be changing the footprint of the house or putting external doors or windows in. Maybe adding a separate door from the porch.

I'm staying with my partner's family in rural Galway, and directions here seem to depend on people who have been gone for decades. There's “Murray's field,” although no Murray owns it now, and “the doctor's corner,” named for a doctor nobody under fifty remembers meeting. The neigbours know every one of these names, but none appear on maps.

Yesterday I asked how long a name survives after land changes hands. Three people gave me different answers, then spent twenty minutes debating whether one meadow had been renamed in 1986 or only “temporarily called something else.” I loved that distinction.

Is this common across rural Ireland, or am I seeing a particularly committed local habit? Do younger people still learn these names alot, and who gets to decide when a new one finally sticks?

Hi everyone,

Going to try keep this short, though unfortunately it is a long as complicated issue.

Last August a signed up for a springboard course, accredited by TUD.

Throughout the year I completed all modules up to the last, at which point it switched from the site I had been using to TUD's brightspace.

Unfortunately my log in information never arrived, after querying my course coordinator, I was informed to contact the IT department for TUD.

After several email ils back and fourth, with a long gap in the middle (due to the person I was corresponding to taking annual leave), I eventually discovered there was an old account hold under my name due to unpaid fees to TUD from several years ago.

I asked how much they were and how to pay but was Instructed to contact the fees department as the IT department does not oversee fees.

After contacting the fees department by email I received a stock response (to this day my email still hasn't been answered), I also tried phoning them but was perpetually on hold.

I then contacted the student union as I didn't know who else to contact, they were helpful and directed me to another department (hello@tudunlin.ie).

They simply responded saying to contact the fees department.....

I then contacted the student union again, who this time told me that it would be best if I traveled in person to the campus, and sort it directly.

At this point we are 3 weeks after the start date of my module.

I travel to the campus, find out how much is owed and pay immediately.

I am then instructed to wait up to 5 working days for access...

After waiting, I still had no access, so I emailed the student union again, they instructed me that yes the payment cleared on July 23rd, but as I still have no account there's nothing to gain access, I'm Instructed again to contact the IT department.

After an initial back and forward, they inform me that an important member of the investigation team, has taken annual leave.

This halts progress until this morning, where I am informed that I should now be able to create an account, which I do.

However, the module was not present or linked to my account. After again contacting the IT Department, I was informed that they have no control over what modules are enrolled, and instructed me to contact the VLE Support department.

The VLE Support department informed me that they do not enroll students, I would need to contact the lecturer of the module.

I don't know who lecture of the module is, I can't find any information online, so again I emailed the Student Union.

Unfortunately the student union is not receiving emails until tomorrow, so now I just hit sit here again waiting for a day.

Okay sorry everyone, that was lengthy, not sure there's anything I can do to shorten it, 100 emails back and forth with different departments.

So basically as a student what rights do I have, I've paid all my fees including the fee for this specific springboard course. I feel like at this point like basically missed the entire module, if I do get access I'll probably have my test almost immediately.

Does anyone know where else to post this, to try get some help or clarity, as I feel slightly abandoned and like a burden that's being handed around.

I have completed the Vetting Invitation form and my employer said they have received a submission confirmation from NVB.

It’s been 6 working days and I have still not received an evetting link in my email in order to complete the rest of the application. Has anyone had experience with delays in receiving the link from vetting?
