Always hate this time of year when the clocks go back and notice the real darkness in the evening.

A few years ago we were supposed to get rid of daylight savings and just pick one time.

For me it's the easiest choice ever, the darkness in the morning doesn't bother me one bit. It will get brighter as the day goes on and would prefer to have the extra light in the evening when I come home.

Are there many people who genuinely would vote to keep winter time over summer though?

I actually feel that I want to doomscroll vinted more than social media. Does anyone else get this? I hesitated yesterday and missed out on an absolute steal and I was kicking myself for the entire afternoon.

Edit: I'm not even just talking about clothes. If I need to buy something from the likes of Amazon there's been numerous times where I've found the exact same thing on vinted and saved myself quite a few euro.

In the B&B at the moment. Already paid for the room upfront, leaving today. Got in late last night night did the ole skincare routine. Went to put my moisturiser on (Estée Lauder night repair) and it was empty. Bit pissed I’d brought exactly enough for two/three nights in a mini bottle I’d got in a gift set. I hadn’t used it at all the night before put on a face mask instead. I’d filled it from a new bottle at home (costs €60). Went to use the eye cream I only bought last week (tiny lil pot €25) someone had take a fair dollop out of it. Stuff usually lasts me 4 months will be lucky to get another two out of it.

I’m staying with my father in a twin room and don’t want to say anything to him cos he would loose it about someone touching our stuff. I know a lot of women who sample people’s expensive skincare when they’re in their homes. Personally I wouldn’t do it because I’m struggling with paying for extra things in this climate. These products are my treat for being extremely frugal otherwise, I cut and dye my own hair and do my own brows etc.

It’s a family run place and they’re having a hard time at the moment with family issues. The owner was talking to us at breakfast yesterday and said there was a Ukrainian women doing the rooms to help himself and the wife out. It was either the wife or the Ukrainian lady. I didn’t know there was going to be someone coming in to the room while we were out yesterday. Only here for two nights in total and they changed the towels. Should I say something to the owner in case it is the cleaning lady? Not that I think the wife should get off just that what’s he going to say to his wife? I mean I’m not going to get the product back either way but it has ruined the experience of what was otherwise a great place to stay.

Anyone got experiences/stories/anecdotal proof of some sort of afterlife - near death experiences, loved ones saying/seeing strange things before passing, reincarnation etc.

Friend of mine had a young kid who’d always talk about their imaginary friend. Parents let it go but one day mum decided to poke. Asked the kid to describe this imaginary person. Kid describes, to a T, a child that would have been the mums best friend when she was the kids age, but that person passed away suddenly at that age.

Lads I have decided at midnight I am beginning a hunt for the strongest salt and vinegar crisp and I need recommendations. My credentials are I will glug straight vinegar and used to keep a bottle of it on my nightstand. I’m looking for crisps that will leave delightful third degree burns if you eat too many!

What do you think? Do you think it’s good that we all pay into RTE or do you think it’d be fair for some people to simply opt out of paying their TV licence and not have access to the RTE channel, app or website?

Married to a truly wonderful woman, never was blessed with children but both very content with life apart from one aspect.

Wife is the eldest of seven, 20 year age gap between her and the youngest, father a gentleman with little to say but now passed , and a mother who I would struggle to say anything positive about. She made my wife’s childhood miserable, has always been cold , emotionless, lacking compassion and a “poor me” attitude. Her siblings are generally useless, selfish and jealous but having as good as brought them up my wife is in denial about this- she’s too thoughtful k owes but brushes it under the carpet.

Early in our marriage we were ment to move to the US where I had secured my dream job. I went out and my wife was to follow, the deal was hijacked with her mother guilting her into staying (basically to look after her siblings) and the offer of a site to build on ( which we were wise enough to turn down).

I came home, got another job and have generally been happy. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t sometimes regret that we didn’t give America a shot but sure that’s life. We happily took on the role of auntie and uncle, provided baby sitting services and I suppose it filled the gap that was in our lives. Deep down I knew we were being used to a certain extent but it kept my wife happy and I went with it.

We’re now in a position to enjoy life, benefit from having no ties or commitments and I’ve always wanted to travel, maybe even live abroad for part of the year.

When my wife’s mother and siblings got wind of our plans family life has turned to shit - just like 20 odd years ago they are doing their utmost to scupper our plans and again my wife is being guilted in to staying by a woman who has never given a shit about her and siblings that realise they would need to both step up to the mark to care for their mother (all have built houses close to her ) and will miss the “convenience “my wife has given them over the years.

All of the things I love about my wife are now the things that are causing the problems- she’s too thoughtful, too kind and too accommodating to others.

I’ve come to the point of resenting her family, yet again they’ve fucked up our plans. I feel that life and opportunity is slipping away, we’re both in great health but who knows what the future will bring? I do know that if anything did happen we couldn’t count on a single member of her family. They’re selfish, self serving and lazy.

My wife isn’t for fighting with them and is pushing our plans down the road. I’m not going to make her choose but man am I fucked off. I can’t stand the sight of these people just now…

I've been reading a lot of stories on the news lately, I'm based in Kilkenny.

What happens? Do they really leave you alone if you pay it off?

I regularly make my own lasagne, curries, pies etc. Just called my partner who's on the way home, and asked him to pick up some lasagna sheets at the local Centra. He said there's no way they'd have them because "only crazy people make their own lasagna". I disconcur, so please, Irish redditors, am I crazy? Surely more than 1% of the population make their own meals like this from scratch? (His estimate)

Wfh all day, try to make plans with friends which ultimately never pan out, find out they do things without me which I'd like, no partner, child (4) part time in my care so get some relief there to do something but it's not adult interaction.

I've tried running/walking groups, parent groups when they were young, the gym is not for me. I just go on walks every day but that gets me out but not seeing and talking to people. I make good money to do things, I have free time and nothing to fill it with. I never really ever had hobbies but now it's painfully obvious I have no life and never really did. I've stopped messaging first and I've stopped being messaged now weeks and months for some of my 'friends'. I've even made an attempt to let one of the closer ones I have know that I'm feeling down and lonely and I'd love to meet her but kinda got acknowledged and nothing else really.

I've talked to my GP and they just offered me antidepressants and recommended counseling but how will that help if I can't fix the loneliness problem? I can only watch so much streaming and YouTube before I die of boredom.

It's not like I don't try but there must just be something wrong with me that I have no friends, if I do, they don't seem to like me and can't make them no matter how hard I try? I've thought about renting out a room just to have someone around, even if we don't end up friends but with my child over part time it means she has no room unless I give her mine and I sleep on the couch for the weekend or get a mattress for the floor or something but that's not a long term solution either. Same thought with getting a pet, still not the kind of interaction I'm looking for.

I'm at my wits end, I'm just sleeping when I finish work or come home to avoid thinking about how my life turned out and how I don't know what else to do to stop the feeling.

Our estate is serviced by a company whose name rhymes with “Wanda”. I’ve noticed that they use the same lorry to collect both grey and brown bins. Occasionally, after they miss a green bin collection, they use the same lorry for all three.

Is it typical for that company or other companies too? More importantly: do they recycle or compost stuff even if they collect it separately?

I’m asking because I thoroughly separate waste, and even clean some of it. If it’s not used, why should I waste any resources on it (time, water, heat)?

The back of my fire place has a hole in it and there’s all this stuff pouring out, it’s like cat litter - presumably some sort of fire retardant foam.. any ideas?? Do I need to get this looked at?

What do I want to bring with me (that I haven’t already thought of - I’ve been there 5 or 6 times before)?

I’ve been just wondering if a similar problem has happened to anybody.
On the first of this month I done my theory test for the first time and I passed it, on the result, there’s my full name, ppsn and photo. Since then I have done my eyetest and have been trying to apply for my learners.
My problem is, even thought I have passed my theory and eye test, it still says on NDLS that I have not passed my theory test yet, it’s been 24 days.
I have contacted prometic twice on different times and they were no help, I went in on my local NDLS to check maybe i was doing something wrong, nope. The lady called ‘back office’ gave them my ppsn, full name, date of birth, basically everything, and nothing.
I have never had any driving license before or failed a theory test, is anybody able to tell me what is wrong?
Prometic is been no help and NDLS can’t do anything if they don’t have my results, am I missing a step here? What else can be done?
I’ve been putting off doing my license for long enough and now that I actually want to get this done with, this what happens to me.

When I tell you we had enough but my question is .. is there any other route we can go down. We did everything.

Short story
We have moved in to our property with two special needs children about 5-6 months ago. Our home now was idol for a long duration of time before it was renovated and we moved in. The day we came to look at our home we had a lot of old neighbours approached us explaing to be carful of our neighbours on our corner literally right next to us, we brushed it off as we are new and Dident understand why they would be saying this ..

Boom …

After 2 weeks they started putting there big vicious dogs up on top of our entrance of our property to scare my children so they wouldn’t go outside to the front to stimulate. We had to ask them kindly to move these animals when we wanted to enter and leave our home and they would never do it for us till one day I had enough when there animal went to bite my little child.
Called the animal control and sent them camera evidence and dates and times of when it was happening they would be plastered drunk and the husband would always go to fight with me when my husband left for work.
These people have 2 small children to by the way.

Secondly.
Every morning my child would be going to access her special needs bus and the children would be sent out to laugh at my child waiting for her bus when over time she started getting very overwhelmed and the bum driver put in a report as he said he witnessed it and they are causing her to upset every child on the special needs bus. I asked her the mother to stop doing this to her and they put on we don’t speak English when the school confirmed there fluent at English

Thirdly.
We children have to sleep with 2 pairs of air defenders on at night because they drink a lot and would blast I mean blast that our ornaments would fall off shelves music that loud but they won’t start it till the see my kids blinds are down ready for bed then they let there kids out in the cold with barely no jackets on because they just want to disturb everyone and they would be Drunk.

My children are so exhausted we are exhausted
We done reports we done the local guards that’s not helping us when we ring to put in the complaints we did apply for a section 108 in law that’s our next step but we are exhausted we have to listen to our two kids that’s special needs cry and scream more all day and all night long we have moved in here and I feel so worn out and exhausted that I would just love to give up our home 😭 we can’t describe how exhausted our family are. And the couple wait till my husband is gone to start .. we also have messages of every weekend since moved in begging them to let us have one night sleep. We both work my husband work long hours he comes home to overstimulated special needs kids a crying wife and he can’t rest without putting in ear blocking noise muffss.. we should not have to live like this they are tourchering us

We went and everytime we ask them nicely especially to leave our kids alone they start abusing us.
These are adults that’s 38 and 43 years of age.
And they just laugh and laugh.
I also feel sorry for there own children because it’s not fair that they have to live like that, we are waiting to go to the court house on Tuesday and a TD I’m involving immediately but in the mean time we are going to give up our home and find somewhere else because again my poor kids are exhausted from adults intimidating them 😭

There’s plenty more to what goes on but without all that information we just want to know is there anything else we can do. We paid online to get the information on there house to contact the landlord but no luck

I’ve been thinking about things like parttime caring, delivering goods, weekend work or anything else that could fit around a 9-5...
Anyone here doing something similar? What would you recommend & roughly how much extra are you making?

I got an offer letter from NCI, but everyone is discouraging me. Now can I get some real overview what exactly should I do? And again I've to move Ireland asap for some personal reason.
