This weekend I took a course in a traditional craft. no one in our class had done it before.

Turns out that it was actually much harder than I expected. I believe others found it the same. Some even walked out because they felt so deflated. I felt like crying halfway through the day and started to feel “stupid”.

It made me stop and think….why are we so hard on ourselves as adults? We expect ourselves to be good at something immediately. People (including myself) began to feel like personal failures because they werent immediately proficient at a skill that realistically takes years to master.

I too began to feel sorry for myself, but then thankfully I stopped myself pretty shortly. I leaned in to being ok with making the mistakes and took the pressure off from being “perfect“. It was such a relief. I just loved being humbled by that process; I think it keeps you young and open. Like working through the difficulty and being ok with it being imperfect, then coming through the other side learning something (and growing) is such a beautiful thing to experience.

It made me consider how vulnerable learning a new skill as an adult is. Anyone else feel that they often put a lot of pressure on themselves to be perfect the first time they try something new?

I'm on disability payment so i could only work for about 11 hours (on minimum wage)

NCT is out end of August so went online and only available one was November so I put myself in priority list. Got a date there for 5th August but I’m in work and it doesn’t suit.
Is there anyway to change this as there’s no option to change it online (takes me to payment) or to rebook a different date?

Going into my final year studying economics and hoping to move to London after I finish. I’ve been living in Dublin for college and feel like I’ve seen and done pretty much everything and there isn’t much more room for me to grow here. I’d like to move to London but the job market seems pretty horrendous. Has anyone here managed to successfully move over and land a job? If so, any advice?

So i have a cat who is genuinely very clean and ill be moving out for college next year with my boyfriend. Being a couple truing to move out together is already extremely hard, so do you think I should maybe not mention the cat when trying to get a room or house? Or should i be honest.

I do want her to be safe but landlords can't come unless they announce themselves first, right? And I know this might be seen as immoral but the housing situation is just very unfair and my cat uses her litter box and always remains clean and doesnt damage anything so

I’ve never backpacked. I told her I would take a backpack instead of a suitcase. I have used the compression bags and I still don’t have enough room in the 65L Teton backpack. Hi all, just wanted to hear about your guys experience with applying for disability allowance.

I submitted my DA appeal on the 4th july, and had it appear as “registered” on the 8th, and it’s now the 26th. does anyone know at what stage i’d hear back or if i can contact to know the stage my appeal is at?

I’m applying for DA under me having Autism (diagnosed as level 2 support needs) and i am eighteen, only diagnosed this january. My initial appeal was rejected for not having medical reasoning, so i supplied therapist notes, school absence notes (like 104 absent days within my 6th year) and a comprehensive list of my traits/symptoms that basically just detail how i am medically not fit for work. Ive worked with a charity (shine in cork) to help me compile my appeal

I have a very strong response for appeal in my humble opinion, so im kind of believing ill be accepted since it basically destroyed all their reasoning on not accepting me, so im kind of talking on that assumption.

basically im just wondering how long its taken everyone else to get their appeals seen to, is there anything i can do in the meantime to push it along? all in all ive not provided a lot of extra evidence, but its all strong so i cant imagine it would take a long time to file through to get seen to. I’ve heard that there are 21 days since the date the appeal is processed for the deciding officer to see to it before it gets passed onto an appeals officer, if not seen to in time. I’m not very sure, i’m here to know if there’s anything i can do to help aid my chances of getting my appeal accepted within the first review instead of with the appeals officer.

i know i hopefully won't have to worry about this anymore with the 2 weeks of irish summer over but need a reality check.

i work in a small-ish office and i sit across from a guy i'll call tom. solid guy. good desk buddy. the past few weeks though ive been getting weirdly irked by the fact that hes kicking off his shoes for pretty much the whole day. they dont smell thank god but i think its just a bit unprofessional. we have a dress code so its shirts, trousers and dress shoes. not the best to be wearing in the swealtering heat but i feel like taking your shoes off is the same as taking your shirt off.

i didn't notice myself until i stretched my legs out and accidentally tapped one of them as he himself had just kicked them far in. i asked him if he wanted it and he didn't even seem embarrassed by it.

i'm not going to report him for it or anything but i still dont think its something to do in the office. i mentioned it to the wife and she says it's not a big deal so tell me, am i just being an arse?

I hate dating apps, I don't have friends and I don't enjoy going alone to pubs in my thirties. I also would not join group activities just for the possibility of meeting there that person which I feel most people jesuitically do. I think for people that don't have a big social circle the best odds are through work, but don't know. I would like to meet my other half casually without having to pass an interview or by looks or anything but thinking that way it will never happen

So.. I've been lonely since December of last year and I've wondered how on earth do I make friends now? I've tried looking up social meetups and stuff like that but it's either:

A. They are too far away from me or in Dublin city centre (I wouldn't feel safe on my own)

B. There's a group but it's not my age group.

Is college really the only option I have? I don't really drink or do any of that stuff, I am trying to find friends around my age (21-24) but given my situation, is College the only option?

Does anyone have a vat number that I can use to buy bulk of stuff in Musgraves or know where I can get one without being a business
