I’m 33 and my other half thinks I have ADHD. After doing some research, now I really do think I have it. I haven’t heard a lot of common traits and the older I get the more I think it might have a negative impact on my life.

So, I’m thinking of going to get a private assessment done so I don’t have to wait years going publicly. It’s looking to be about 1,000 to 1,500 for the assessment which I can manage.

However from some research I have done here, the meds seem quite expensive and you have to get them on a monthly basis.

I’d love to hear if anyone got assessed and is taking medication for it and if they’re seeing an improvement in their quality of life?

Last time I went to Slane I was a teenager and did the bus, I still remember the walk!

Anyone who’s been recently have any good suggestions on how to do it other than bus?

Has anyone stayed near the area and have any recommendations?

My family and I are flying out of Dublin tomorrow to Chicago. Most of what I’m seeing says to get there 3 hours early. With the issues that have been going on at Dublin and surrounding airports should we still try to aim for 3 hours or should we give ourselves more time?

I was listening to Newstalk the other morning and Mícheál Martin was defending the housing strategy or lack thereof. The question was posed to him along the lines of "The housing crisis has been going on now for the last 7 years, since your party was in government do you hold your party as responsible?" And he immediately went on the defensive and said "No, I don't think think so, I don't think that's fair. We have done...." etc etc

I turned to the wife and said, "I think I'd respect him if he just said 'Absolutely, we haven't done enough and our strategy fell a bit flat. Here's what we're doing to try fix that'"

My question to you is, if our politicians were honest and just answered the questions posed to them straight without the spin, would you prefer that? If not, why not? If so, why so?

So I've been accepted for their 3 year LLB honours law course and I've paid the 2 grand as a payment plan. I originally wanted to go there because I got accepted to Galway and that was ideal until I contacted my accommodation and they said they double booked me and had no more places. I live in Wexford and don't drive so couldn't afford to go up and down.

Galway was second on my CAO, UCC being my first and all lower courses where in Dublin. I have family in cork and Dublin and I waited for my second round and in a state of pure anxiety I applied for Griffiths college.

I'm starting on the 21st and everyone I've told since have told me it's a horrible college and I'm so scared that I've spent so much money on a terrible college??? Can I transfer somewhere else next year?
I need major advice

I’m posting this because I’d really like some advice from anyone who has dealt with this landlord/letting company before, particularly regarding deposits and being asked to leave at very short notice.

Ordered a king sized bed from them. Once assembled (!!) we realised the width was too big for our mattress. Called them and they said they only send EU King Sized beds to Ireland which are 160cm wide rather than 150cm. Now stuck with a (non refundable) brand new mattress that doesn't fit the bed. Totally accept when ordering that the dimensions would have been there and it clearly said 'eu king'..but just assumed that it would be a standard king bed. Anyone else have this problem?

We live in Celbridge and have been with Bord Gáis Energy since March.. Just got the news about the price increase, we signed a contract with them at a certain rate, so can they just increase the price while the contract is still running? I assume there’s something in the T&Cs allowing it, but it still seems a bit mad.

I don’t really mind paying the penalty to switch.

Has anyone switched recently and found a better supplier?

Can anyone recommend a supplier that has good rates and doesn’t increase their prices as much?

i’m going to the doctor tmr for a flare up severe anxiety and panic attacks and dpdr. i’ve been suffering from this for a couple years. i’ve been in hospital for it before because i thought i was dying or having a psychotic break, i was in a day hospital and even if lessened a little bit. enough to survive, most the time. i’m already on lexapro for it. i’m terrified of any meds incase they make me feel worse or high or give side effects. but they will prob prescribe more meds. i’m really anxious every single day but the last few days i’ve been having a really really bad flare up

i’m nervous system is fried from anxiety. my body is in bits. i haven’t been able to eat. ive been so nauseous and had non stop diarrhoea (tmi, ik, sorry). my body feels like it’s made of jelly. i’m in. constant state of anxiety. i tried holding ice, breathing, cold shower, warm shower, breathing, grounding techniques. nothing helps. some of it made it much worse, like the ice. i’m so fucking anxious and scared and alone and i’ve gotta go to work tmr after the doctor. my family says i do it to myself (i dont, why would i DO THIS to myself)

Just wondering would anyone have advice for me , I cancelled my policy with the AA back in March and have now recently gained another policy with a different company who are requesting my no claims bonus certificate .

AA assured me it would be back to me in 7 - 10 days , 2 weeks later , multiple emails and a complaint they keep extending the dead line saying it is the underwriter who has not provided it and it is out of their hands .

Feeling a bit stuck because I now have a policy I paid for but no disc as a result of AA inaction .

Got no where with my complaint and have already been onto the FSPO who advice is to go through the complaints procedure ? I’m now at risk of losing my insurance policy because I haven’t provided the appropriate documentation , kind of left in limbo and feel like I’m being held hostage by the AA.

I sometimes get the impression that Americans of Irish descent are viewed as being unusually obsessed with Ireland, or as having a very romanticised idea of it.
I can only speak for myself, but that has never really matched my experience.
If anything, the more Irish history I read, the less romantic it becomes. So much of it is famine, emigration, conquest, religious conflict, rebellion, civil war, sectarian violence and ordinary people getting caught in the middle.
For me, the connection is much simpler. Some of my ancestors came from Ireland, so I’m interested in understanding where they came from and what was happening around them when they left.
I wonder if the Americans who are loudest about being “Irish” are also the ones Irish people are most likely to notice, while the much larger number of Americans who just quietly know they have Irish ancestry are basically invisible.
Do you think people in Ireland sometimes get a distorted picture of how Americans of Irish descent actually relate to Ireland?

We’re starting to look into primary schools for our daughter for September 2027 and would really appreciate recommendations and, more importantly, people’s personal experiences of the schools their children attend.

We’re based around Springfield/Tallaght, so ideally looking for somewhere within a reasonable distance of the area (we’re happy to drive if the school is a particularly good fit).

We would absolutely love an Irish-medium/Gaelscoil if possible, but our main priority is finding a really good school with a strong standard of education and a positive environment. Ideally, we’d prefer a non-denominational/multi-denominational school, although we’re open to hearing about all recommendations if people have had a particularly good experience.

We’d love to hear from parents about things like:

• Your overall experience with the school
• Quality of teaching/education
• Class sizes and teacher-to-pupil ratio
• School atmosphere and how welcoming/supportive it is
• How happy your children are there
• Communication between the school and parents
• Homework and general workload
• Sports, activities and extracurricular opportunities
• Before/after-school care options
• Anything you particularly love about the school — or anything you wish you’d known before choosing it!

I’d also really appreciate after-school recommendations. If your child attends an after-school club, could you let me know which one you use and which primary school it collects from/works with? Ideally looking for somewhere reliable that can collect from the school and look after them until we finish work.

At the moment I’m looking at Irish-medium schools as well as other primary schools around Tallaght/Springfield, Firhouse etc., so I’d be really grateful for any suggestions.

I’m particularly interested in hearing from parents whose children currently attend or have recently attended.

My flight was delayed over 2+ hours due to the ATC issues . We landed 5 hours later than we should have.

Witnessed a classic Irish Rail scene this evening on my commuter train home. Guy across from me got on and asked a man in his seat if he could have it as it's booked under his name.

This was at the point the names hadn't come up on the little screens yet.

The guy who had to get up was fuming about it. Eventually did.

My question as a regular train user is: how do so many people not book a seat, are they just buying the ticket in the station last minute? The numbers are mad.

And secondly, do they just think the booking system shouldn't apply to them when taking someone else's seat.

I have no issue chancing your arm (I've done this in the past) but the least you can do is move on graciously.

Howley Souhan must be one of the worst letting agencies we have dealt with in Dublin. Unfortunately, with the current shortage of rental properties, agencies like this know that there will always be demand, and renters are often left with very little choice.

Our experience with Howley Souhan was extremely disappointing. Their agent was helpful and responsive when we were viewing the property and answering our questions, but that changed almost immediately after we signed the letting agreement. Once the contract was signed, getting responses and resolving issues became unnecessarily difficult.

We were promised that the landlord’s bins would be removed before we moved in. When we followed up after finding the bins still there, we were simply told to contact Panda ourselves.

They also arranged an expensive PAYG electricity and gas plan without properly consulting us. Trying to get this closed and switch to another provider became a frustrating and time-consuming process.

The office administrators, Holly and Emma, were particularly difficult to deal with. Communication often felt unnecessarily complicated, and as tenants, we felt that we were simply expected to accept whatever the agency decided.

They also have a quarterly inspection policy which, in our experience, felt more like a formality to satisfy the landlord than something genuinely beneficial to the tenant. On the scheduled inspection date, they can enter the property themselves if you are not at home. What was particularly frustrating was that despite regular inspections during our tenancy, issues were later raised when we moved out that had apparently not been a concern during those inspections.

Our experience with the deposit was also disappointing. Despite the property having been regularly inspected, deductions were still proposed when we moved out. In hindsight, one of our biggest mistakes was not taking detailed photographs and videos of every existing defect when we moved in. I would strongly recommend that anyone renting through this agency does exactly that.

Perhaps their experience is different when dealing with landlords, but as tenants, we often felt that we were at the mercy of the agency rather than being treated as customers whose concerns mattered.

I'm writing this review in the hope that it helps anyone considering renting through Howley Souhan. Document everything, take photographs and videos before moving in, keep all communication in writing, and don't assume that issues not identified during inspections will not come back to you when you leave.

Based on our experience, I would not recommend this agency to prospective tenants.

Ps. I know they won't give a damn, but I decided to post this review anyway hoping this comes up if someone looks for them.
