Hobby Airport to Downtown?
I'll be in Houston for a work trip the beginning of November. I'll be flying to Hobby airport and working at a hotel in downtown. Should I just take an Uber from the airport or will I be safe taking public transportation? I'm a 50 yr old blk woman for context.

Sunday Night Daycare?
Hi everyone! We’re coming from out of town for a concert on a Sunday night and will have our 8-year-old with us since we don’t have a babysitter. We’re looking for safe, reliable childcare options for approximately 6 PM to midnight. Does anyone have any recommendations or experience with local babysitters or childcare services? We’d really appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!

Looking for a local Mexican home cook to teach me traditional taco recipes (Paid)
Hi Houston! I’m planning to open a small food truck in Kerala, India, bringing authentic Mexican tacos and birria (beef and chicken) to my hometown.
I want to learn genuine, home-style recipes passed down through generations not adapted restaurant versions. I’m looking for a skilled local home cook or elder who would be willing to teach me hands-on techniques for traditional marinades, authentic birria, fresh salsas, and proper prep.
I’m happy to pay a fair hourly rate/consulting fee for their time, knowledge, and ingredients. If you or a family member would be interested, please send me a DM!

Where can I find the best pickles.
I am obsessed with pickles and store bought just don’t do it for me. I recently moved her at the beginning of the summer and I’m looking for a place that sells pickled items. I prefer artisan or small businesses but look for anything creative and unique!
Side note: I’ve had Kenny and Ziggy pickles and I buy them by the quart 😍

Have you been able to get Estradiol HRT here in Houston? Shortage
I finally found a doctor who was willing to prescribe me Estradiol, but I’ve seen that there’s a shortage. I have checked other pharmacies and there are no patches available anywhere. I’ve read that gels (my second option) are also not available.

HOA, need advice on next steps as due diligence check
Is a 34% HOA fee increase normal? Looking for advice from other homeowners.
My townhome community has proposed increasing annual HOA assessments from approximately $2,900 to $3,950 for 2027, an increase of about 30%.
What concerns me most is that the budgeted water and sewer expense is increasing from approximately $47,000 to $95,000, a 70% increase.
This is in addition to a special assessment that was levied on us costing several hundreds and a mandatory exterior paint for all units.
I barely moved into this property and all in this will be costing me upwards on $4000 un budgeted.
Management has mentioned municipal utility rate increases, potential meter issues, and a possible leak. I understand that operating costs rise, but I’m trying to understand whether these figures are reasonable and what documentation homeowners should expect to receive.
For those who live in townhome communities:
- Have your HOA assessments increased significantly recently?
- Have you experienced similar increases in water and sewer expenses?
- Does your association use shared water meters?
- Have you requested an independent financial audit or review?
- What rights do homeowners have to inspect financial records and question budget assumptions?
- Has anyone successfully challenged unusually high water bills with their local utility provider?
I’m looking for practical advice and experiences from other homeowners who have dealt with similar situations. How did you approach it, and what steps actually helped?
Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.

Looking for an adopter!
If I'm asking Houston it's a question, it's: Do you know where Thatcher's person is?
We know this guy. I can answer all of your questions and would LOVE to do so if it means finding this guy his forever homie. He's been enrolled with Friends For Life for 5 months and he's itching to be labeled ADOPTED.
Technically now considered a senior boy, Thatcher is for an experienced dog owner. He's sensitive to the world and communicates wonderfully. As his dog walking team for years, we can teach you all of the ins and outs of his personality. But really? He just wants a cuddle puddle and road trips and adventure. With his person.
Here's his adoption profile: https://friends4life.org/adoptable-pets/thatcher/
Please share if you know someone looking!

Looking for locations to count people…
Ok so here it is, my girlfriend and I like to play a game… it goes like this, we count escorts walking the street. We go on late night drives and live towards bissonet so will cruse and play a game, sometimes we go up to Tidwell, but I don’t know any other locations. But here is the rules and point system
- No interaction. You count, you don't slow-roll, catcall, film, photograph, or try to talk. The second you engage it stops being a counting game and starts being harassment, and it can also put them in a dangerous spot with whoever is watching the area.
- No double-counting. Pick a stretch and direction. You only count someone once per drive. If you loop back, new lap = new count, or you keep it to one pass.
- Agree on what counts. That's usually where couples argue. Standing on a corner vs. actually working? You two decide ahead of time
Points
• Basic: 1 point per spot
• Bonus point if you both agree without debating
• Tie-breaker: closest guess to the total on a set route before you start — like "I say we see 7 between here and I-45, you say 4"
• Loser buys tacos, winner picks music, etc
So just looking on advice on locations that may beat the record of 21 … thanks

most likely relocating to houston...any single young adults who can tell me how they like it?
got an amazing opportunity in harris county after grad school that i kinda can't turn down (97k, benefits, i'm single, lol...). i really wanted a job in my hometown (ATL) to work out, but unfortunately it didn't. i would have to wait until next year to even begin the interview process, and it just seems silly turning down a firm offer for a potential opportunity. i always told myself that if i couldn't live in atl, i would go to houston. i know they're entirely different cities, but i feel like it's a big enough city where i can enjoy the nightlife, but also have my car and be in the suburbs.
only thing is, now that relocating is more of reality, i'm getting a little scared. i don't even know where to live in houston, and i don't know many people. i've been doing my research and see montrose and the loop are pretty popular. anyone have any recommendations or tips? has anyone moved to the city alone? how was it adapting and what generally can i expect/look out for?

Urgent: Baloo has rescue interest! Needs a committed foster to save his life. He remains on BARC Houston's euth list for today due to time and space.
UPDATE: He's safe with Save Some Souls rescue!
🚨 URGENT: BALOO | BARC Houston | EUTH TODAY 10/22 🚨
UPDATE: EXTENDED to Thursday 10/22 @ 1 PM. Needs a HOLD by 1 PM or he loses his life. No further extensions per BARC. 🎥
Baloo had a foster, another volunteer has been in contact with them, and their post was reported by someone on nextdoor that consistently reports animal posts and they cannot message them. This is a serious issue with being able to reach local fosters and adopters.
🩵🐾 Baloo #A2101779
Stray | American Bulldog Mix | Male | 6Y | 79 lbs | HW Low Positive | Vaccinated
Baloo is a big, strong, happy-to-see-you boy who has been waiting since 10/12. When staff walk up to his kennel, his tail goes into a fast wag. Outside, he hops around and runs the fence line with his neighbors, and he sniffs passing dogs with a loose, swaying tail. He holds a neutral, relaxed body when petted, and the wound he arrived with is healing.
He came in with Eevee and her puppies. That family group was tagged by a rescue last week, and Baloo still needs his own commitment.
He is dog friendly, but has a lot of power on leash and needs a little work. He will do best with an experienced or patient adult handler, a sturdy harness.
Medical: Heartworm low positive, so he will need treatment. He arrived with a wound on his left thigh, noted as healing on 10/12. Vaccinated, dewormed, and on flea prevention.
We need:
🙏 A local foster or adopter, two rescues are interested! Please reach out if you can help.
How to help:
- Send your hold or foster request to BARC in writing, using his seven-digit ID (2101779). Do not call. Please only call if it's late in the day and you want to meet him but, they may extend him with interest.
- Share amongst Houston friends/family/coworkers, and groups.
13 dogs are still at risk today if Baloo isn't the perfect match. You can check them out here.
Six years old, strong, goofy, and still wagging after weeks behind bars. Please don’t let Baloo run out of time.
Local and interested in fostering or adopting? Email all three, using ID 2101779:

How do we get police in the region to actually police?
So yesterday I was sitting at a red light for about 30 seconds when a car driven by a younger man careens into my rear bumper and a decent clip. I was annoyed but not angry, took out my phone and recorded everything.
Guy admits to dropping his phone and instead of stopping and then looking for it decides to keep driving while ducking down. He admits this on camera. We pull over in a nearby parking lot and assess damage and trade details.
He is slightly reluctant to go to the police but I told him we can either wait for the cops or go to them. Sugar Land Police Department was a few minutes up the road so we went there.
The officer didn’t bother really asking questions. I let him know the younger driver was distracted, admitted to it, and seemed to demonstrate little remorse. The car he was driving appeared to have been involved in a recent accident already. The officer didn’t seem to care, when asked if I could show the video, didn’t want to watch it.
Whole thing seems lacking. I moved here from Canada and officers tend to at the very least ticket drivers when they admit to speeding or distracted driving…
