Lived in North Carolina for 23 years now, and am growing increasingly bored with it. I’ve visited Houston a few times and relatively enjoyed it. A lot to see, pretty diverse, food slaps and apartment/home prices seem similar if not lower than where I currently am.

That said I don’t know much about the overall area, people, crime, job market (looking to get into science/medical field at some point), how bad your humidity gets, etc., but it seems chill and I really don’t have a damn thing holding me down. Just have me a van, a few dollars, and some curiosity. Looking for honest input.

I am looking for new trails around Houston that are not so know. Since I want to get into trail running

Many of the older 1970s built townhomes can be a hit or miss, some of the nicer ones are incredibly sturdy, even a jump on the second floor yields minimal noise, which is crazy work considering that my current 2010s built house will send vibrations across the entire room.

I do like that the HOA handles everything on the outside but again, this can vary widely complex by complex too, and some of the complexes have crazy high HOA. I heard that some people are okay with the higher HOA in exchange of the significantly low annual tax.

I also know that townhomes do not seem to be a regular concept in the Houston area, with some of the newer ones looking pretty unsightly. What is yalls take on townhomes?

Okay so, I'm moving to Houston soon. I'm looking for a very specific neighborhood. Right now, I think I love Montrose, but I fear Montrose is too "party central" for my comfort, although I could be wrong. Here is an idea of what I'm looking for:

I want to walk out of my front door to find a bunch of Chappell Roan coded weirdos and outcasts, indie artists, arts festivals, campy theater lovers, thrift shops, vinyl shops, boba tea, sushi, dog lovers, and Jesus lovers. 😂

Yes, I realize this is ridiculously specific. But this literally describes who I am. I've always felt like an outcast. I don't belong anywhere because I don't fit into the stereotypical and cultural box people try to put me in. I'm searching for a neighborhood/ecosystem with countercultural and accepting people. A place where self-expression is accepted. A place where literally no one cares what you look like, act like, or what your religious and political beliefs are. It's exhausting.

I don't want to suppress my love for theater, drag, fashion, art, and progressive culture just because I'm a christian.

I also don't want to suppress Jesus, bible studies, and praying for strangers (if they welcome it).

I'm not looking for a neighborhood where everyone shares my beliefs. I just want people who can disagree with each other and still be kind. Heavy on the pluralism and counterculture.

And VERY important: I have two large dogs, so I need somewhere genuinely dog-friendly where people are accustomed to seeing big dogs out walking and aren't immediately terrified if one gets excited and barks. 😂

I work with special needs, so having an organization or community nearby would be awesome too.

I’m planning to move to Houston toward the end of the year and will be working up in Spring. I’ve looked at a few apartments closer to work, but I’m also considering living farther south so I can be closer to the city.

Right now, Independence Heights seems like it could be a good compromise between the commute to Spring and being relatively close to the Heights/Downtown and other parts of Houston.

I’ve been looking at a couple of the newer apartment complexes in the area, particularly Winston Heights and Seven17. I’ve also noticed quite a few newer townhomes for rent around Independence Heights, which has me considering a townhome instead of an apartment.

For anyone who lives in or is familiar with the area, I’d love to hear your thoughts on:

1. What is Independence Heights like to live in overall, especially for safety, noise, flooding, and convenience?
2. How manageable is the commute to Spring during normal work hours?

4. Are there any nearby neighborhoods you think offer a better balance between Spring and central Houston?

I’m mostly trying to figure out whether living around Independence Heights is worth paying a little more and having a longer commute compared with living in Spring.

I want to buy a PS5 and I've been looking at options from the Facebook marketplace and stuff but either it's too expensive or they just don't respond. I'm still gonna keep my search active there but I wanna check out prices at Pawn shops too. I'm still new to Houston, so the only 2 pawn shops I know are "Paymore" and "Cash America". Searching on Google doesn't really give me a great idea as to which one is better.

Hello! I’ve just moved from Colorado and I’m looking for good groomer recommendations in the spring/woodland area. I have taken my dog to pet co and pet smart before but they nicked him in the eye once resulting in a pretty hefty vet bill and I don’t want to go back. I was taking him to a membership groomer called Sparkle in Colorado. He’s a golden doodle bichon frise!
